Parallel 49 is so awesome! I hadn't been to this new space, only to the old one, and WOW! What an improvement! Love the space, the number of beers on tap, the food truck inside - everything. Lots of variety in beers and good recommendations from the staff. Good food (at least the waffle fries with basil cream that I tried). Doors are open to the patio which made the space feel bigger and kept the noise down. Can't wait to come back here. read more

Walking in people that were working were smiling- customers looked happy. The food truck- inside the bldg- was putting out great looking food. Service was fast and friendly! Pork belly taco and fish taco were amazing. The spicy chicken sandwich was one of the best I have ever had! My wife had the Trash Panda hazy IPA- their signature beer- and it was the beat of our 8 day trip! The team that works there is awesome. Amanda was efficient and smiling! Got to chat with the Mgr- Caroline- she is amazing. And her smile is the best! If you are within an hour or 2- very worth the drive. We loved it!!! And will be back. read more

* Free tasting, with one standout * This semi-new brewery has a nice tasting room, with several stools at a bar. The tastings are complimentary, and when I visited they were offering four varieties: The seasonal Seed Spitter watermelon wheat beer didn't do it for me. It was way too sweet for me. Although it seemed popular with a lot of the other customers there. The Gypsy Tears Ruby Ale started with nice flavour, but was a bit weak on the finish. It didn't have that classic dry red ale finish you might expect. I found the Old Boy ale also to be a bit weak on the finish. The highlight was the rather unique Hopparazi. It is an IPL. Yes, IPL, not IPA. I've seen these a few times from craft breweries in the States, but first time I've seen it in Canada. They do a lager with a stereotypical IPA finish. So it has a pleasant hoppy flavour, but is much lighter to drink. Definitely the standout among their current brews. The free tasting is nice, and they have their four brews available in chilled six packs, as well as growlers with a CO2 filling system. Although the filling system seemed to be giving the owner behind the counter a bit of trouble and he ended up filling most of the growlers from the regular taps - some bugs to work out I suppose! read more

This review is for the tasting room at the front of the brewery. Parallel 49 Brewing is on of the new breweries on the block in Vancouver. As of writing this post the brewery has had beer on the market for only 7 weeks. In this 7 weeks though the have received way more demand for their beer than they could have imaged and can not keep up with demand for it. What a problem to have! The Brewery and tasting room are located at the same location in an industrial area in East Vancouver at 1950 Triumph St. Vancouver, BC, Canada (Right across from Coal Harbour Brewing Company). In the future they plan on offering brewery tours but for now they have an exciting new addition to their brewery. As you walk through the doors of the building you will enter into the brand new Parallel 49 tasting room (Open July 17th 2012!). I was greeted by the owner of the brewery who also owns the craft beer brew house "St. Augustine's". The owner is currently the person who staffs the tasting bar which is a really cool touch as there is no middle man. The tasting room consists of a bar with taps of all 4 beer that they currently produce as well as some extra bar seating and a cooler for you to purchase your favorite beer to share with your friends. They sell 6 packs of all 4 varieties of their beer. A really nice touch is that they have a mixed 12 pack that consists of all 4 of their beer so you can take them all home and enjoy the whole line at home without breaking the bank on a 6 pack of each (not a terrible idea either). Click here for and explanation of a similar growler filling station. The most exciting thing they have at this tasting room though is their specialized Growler filling station. This specialized equipment purges the growler of all oxygen and replaces it with CO2 this will keep your beer fresh for far longer much like a keg. Most growlers are good for up to 48 hours. With this filling station you can have fresh beer for weeks not just days! They sell Growlers for $5 and will fill growlers for $10. Like the owner said though they are not in the business of selling glassware but in the business of selling beer and therefore will fill any proper growler (You can only have so many 1.89L bottles around your house). If you do not know a growler is almost the same size as a 6 pack of beer so it is a good deal in the long run. With no brewery tours currently available they decided to mount a big screen tv right behind the bar with a feed to their brewery so you are able to see what is currently going on inside the brewery. They also plan on installing a camera inside the bottling area so you are able to watch the bottling as it happens! If you have not yet tried their beer then you are really missing out as it is amazing beer! The tasting room is open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 7pm currently and is well worth your time to check out. So come out and support your local craft breweries by tasting their beer and leaving with a handful of their amazing brew! Checked this out on a great recommendation from a friend. Had been meaning to come here for ages but the word "infuser" was what sold me. I heard stories of gummy bear and apple pie infused beers and I had to try it. First off - the place was packed. so packed. Which is awesome! It was a revolving door of growler fills, sleeves, and just bottled purchases. I had a mocha infused milk stout. Jordan had a Toques of Hazzard IPA. life was grand. Located in a quiet industrial district in Vancouver, it's where the brewery has been concocting and cooking several distinct flavours and varieties of beer the past few years, generally remaining a well kept secret. The brew enthusiasts are here, filling every seat, bicycle rack slot, and glass in the house. Parellel 49 samples their four main batches to entice you to purchase one. You're nearly guaranteed to find something you enjoy in their limited selection, with a full range between a fruity and light Seedspitter and their hoppiest Hopparazi. I brought a few bottles of rosemary infused pilsner to a wedding yesterday, but I forgot what it's name is, and it hasn't been listed quite yet on their website. This brewery is a must visit location if you live in the neighborhood. They have the cheapest growler refills in town. There's also good reason to go as a microbrew enthusiast, since they have the only reasonably priced selection of them in town, period! I've just moved to the hood and this is my new spot. With $3 sleeves and $4 flights and food trucks regularly parked out the front, what more could you want? I had the best beer I've ever had there the other night too- a coconut blackberry infused lager. A great summer brew! Holy Crap- cheapest flights ever. Super good beer. But the room smells like yeast from the brewery and this brand of beer is so well-circulated that you don't actually have to come here to drink it. I'm also not crazy into a lot of the unique brews they do. I do like their nitro pours though- nice and smooth. Not fancy like any of the other breweries. And that's ok. Very blue-collar feel. Not like... chic-hipster-throwback blue collar. But actually like, working class bar. I'd come back for a growler fill. read more

Controlled, well-planned growth is good. Exponential, not so well planned growth is like cancer. Before the union attempt by P49 staff made headlines I stopped coming here altogether. They kept pumping out zany new brews but quality kept dropping. Some on the internets have predicted P49 may follow the path of Granville Island. Quality has definitely dropped as they focus on filling every possible shelf. I've given away my P49 growlers. Props though that they continue to support the majority of the Elite events. read more

Love this concept and food/drinks are great! Only thing is noise levels. As was my last visit: If there are drunk 19 year old women drunk talk/yelling at each other over the table - you can't hear yourself think. Although I have mostly been there on afternoons of mild fullness - Saturday night with a full house is very loud and you can't hear your table mates. read more

Even her email has the word beer in it. So naturally she really liked it here too. It is a bit hipsterish and fits the community quite well. People speak "Canadian" here which is a plus. Loved the samplers, got to try some different flavours. Thanks to my brother for taking us here. It was an enjoyable evening. Great beer at great prices and great people. Delicious beer! Super rude employee. I've been loving the beer from this place for a while and went to check out the tasting room last night. I ordered a bat and asked the guy behind the counter about the infusion they had listed on the board (flavoured Hoparazzi IPL). I got confused about it, cuz I thought that beer was an IPA. I asked for clarification. The guy fully snarled "I don't know how to explain it to you any better, mate". He had not actually explained anything to me, so this was a surprising turn of events. Anyway., I took the beers and walked away, chastised for my ignorance. All those zany cartoon characters on their labels have now been replaced in my mind by this grouchy hipster. Parallel 49 knows what they're doing. They've got solid beers, a great tasting room, a large bar and growler fill station, and a healthy stream of folks coming in and out, even at noon on a Thursday! I was seriously impressed to see the tasting room filling up, despite the location being so industrial. This is definitely an area that is SUPER up and coming, and I anticipate a ton of cool businesses taking P49's lead very soon and opening other fabulous spots for locals to go. I was here to meet with Jeff and Chris, P49 awesome ninjas (official title) and at Jeff's recommendation I just had to try the Boddhisattva - a light sour beer that was just sour enough to give it a kick, but not so much that you couldn't drink a whole glass. The tasting room is simple, but totally works. There's no fuss or frill here, just a few tables, a cooler with bottles of beer to buy, a long bar for tastings and growler fills, and a festive atmosphere with folks clearly excited to try something new and delicious. I adore the infuser they have - it's truly a stroke of brilliance to have something slightly different each day and to be able to try a twist on their already excellent beers. Thursday's treat was lager infused with citrus peel - it was subtle and incredibly complementary, instantly making me wish I was on a sunny patio! It's well worth the trip out here, and if you can get on one of their brewery tours I'd highly recommend it - there's a lot to see and these guys really know their stuff!! read more

I recently saw a tasting event at Firefly Liquor Store for Parallel 49 beers - cost: $15. Maybe they don't know that you can get free tastings from their brewery tasting room! Unlike many other breweries, the friendly staff at Parallel 49 don't charge for tasters. They'll happily pour you a sample of anything you want, and are on-hand to make recommendations or answer any questions you may have. They have a few good beers on tap, so it's a big decision, but whether you're there for tasters, a few glasses with friends or a growler to take home, this is a great place to visit. They've expanded so much that you'll see their beer at almost any bar/pub these days, but seeing what they're up to at the brewery is always fun. They've just begun experimenting with nitrogenated beers, which yields a creamier head, and had one on tap that night. Apparently they're going try bottling some of their beers with nitrogen, so I'm looking forward to trying more soon! read more

I'm a big fan of the beer here, this is where I come on a regular basis to get my growler filled. Right now I usually stick to the Ugly Sweater, Old Boy and the Craft Lager. Bring in your growler from home, as long as it's a 1/2 gallon and it's clean they should have no problem filling it. $10-$12 bucks a fill is a good price. For those that don't know what a growler is, it's a 1/2 gallon "to-go" jug for draft beer. It translates to about 4 pints. Make sure you are thirsty or you have a friend to share it with since after they are opened the next day they are not so great. The tasting room is a nice place to hang out and drink some beer, often I'll get a beer to have while I wait for my fill. The only downside, the reason why it's not 5 star, is the lack of free samples. When I first came here it wasn't a problem but now they insist on selling a 3 oz sample of beer. When it comes to samples, I don't need a lot, I just need one sip of whatever new beer I want to try before I get a fill, just a half oz taste is all I need to make a decision. If you think I'm crazy/cheap because I want free beer, think of an ice creme shop. Instead of giving you a tiny spoon to try, imagine them giving you something 5 times the size and charging you to try it. Beer is no different to me. read more

Parallel 49 is a super popular tasting room - but neither the space or the beer quite do it for me. Firstly the bar. The good and bad news is that the bar area is large. A large tasting room is very welcome in the Vancouver beer scene when you often find yourself waiting outside in the rain for a table to become available. The bad news, in this case, is that nothing has been done with the space to make it interesting, it's like being in a large, functional, sushi restaurant (you know the ones, they're like dinner halls). All space, no flavour. As for the beer, personally, I'm not a huge fan. I really appreciate their drive to offer a large range of beers for all tastes, and their commitment to seasonal specials and experimental flavours. All of that is exactly what I look for in craft beer. Sadly I find most of their range uninspiring in terms of the depth of taste when compared to their neighbours: Nearby Powell Street, Bomber, Off The Rail, Storm, and Callister all have better tasting, more complex beers in my opinion. For me this would be a destination if I'm with a large group of 4+. Anything else I'd hit up their neighbours first. read more

Riding in the cab there was a brief moment where I thought what did I get myself into. But after that I found the brewery was in a very up and coming trendy industrial side of Vancouver. The brewery it's self was amazing. The perfect mix of grunge and hipster on top of really good beer(once you can pick one from their wall of taps). Staff was extremely and friendly. Fair warning though this is not that touristy of a brewery. You can tell there are a lot of locals and you really have to know what your doing to get there. That being said HIGHLY recommended! read more

I'm not going to lie to you, every time the BF and I are heading to or from downtown during P49's open hours, we stop in to fill our growlers. This place is that good. The taproom can be nice and quiet or super busy depending on the time of day and day of the week, but I've never been in when there wasn't a seat somewhere to warm while we waited for our growler fills. I always find the staff to be pleasant and talkative (whether that be on their beer - which they all know well - or other fun and intersting matters) and the clientele to be a welcoming bunch too. We've had random conversations with all sorts of other folks on our numerous visits. Honestly the only thing keeping me from offering 5 stars is that you can't get a little nosh while you visit - but I suspect this has more to do with licensing than the brewery itself. I think I've also heard rumours that this might change in the future (but then again that might just be wishful imagining on my part)? Stop by and have a sample. You won't regret it. read more

Flights for $4.05?? Done. and done again. Love this brewery. The nitro beer (Ugly Sweater) was smooth and delicious, I couldn't stop at one. Nitrogen beer has more nitrogen than carbon dioxide for that creamy lick-your-lips action. My fave however is the Salty Scot - if you love salted caramel you must have this beer. I had to buy a growler of this lovely which was one the cheapest in the city. They also have an infusion beer which mixes one of their classics with different ingredients (I heard gummy bears have been thrown into the Fusion Tower) and in this case, it was a spiced up version of Old Boy. Excellent. A little out of the way but it's not going to stop me from getting there. And once the rain stops, it's time to hit up the breweries on bike! read more

My group of my friends and I (4 of us) decided to get some flights after dinner on a Sunday night. We arrived around 8:30pm and the place was packed. It was our first there and we were clearly clueless to how the place was run. None of the staff offered any help after we stood there awkwardly staring at the menus. One of my friends decided to get a single beer as he was driving and ordered first. The menu was a little overwhelming so the rest of us decided to grab a seat and keep browsing. Shortly after our friend joined us with his beer, one of the staff member shows up demanding for our ids. He rudely asks if we were all going to share the ONE beer my friend ordered while we each had menus in hand. We kindly let him know that we were going to order later as we were having difficulty deciding. He provided no help at all and continued to demand for our ids as he had "already made his way over". My group and I may have looked younger but I don't think that his attitude was any way to treat your customers. Don't think I'll be going back any time soon. read more

Great beer and a really cool place to grab a drink. The huge board of beers listed on the wall may seem intimidating but talk to the bartender. They have great info on the beers and are very helpful in finding the right one for your taste. Their flights are reasonably priced and well portioned. The food looked good too. We'll grab some grub the next time we're there. I can see this place would be quite busy on the weekends but on a Saturday afternoon it was perfect. read more

I've been here a few times with friends. It has a Spartan industrial feel to it. The beer is quite good. Nice mixed crowd but almost impossible to get a seat and there's no where really to stand. You literally are a number in this place but when you're that busy I guess that's one possible outcome and we should just be happy to be served. read more

The beer here is usually pretty decent, although never truly consistent. Beers I've had when they first come out never seem to age well and are no where near as good a second time. Still solid, but always a little too sweet. Has to be the ugliest tasting room in town though. Really could use some kind of renovation. The other breweries are nice places you want to hang out in though, and this one looks like a crappy office and the smell of cleaner overpowers. I'm going to start off by stating right up front, I like good beer. If you're a drinker of beers, you know there is definitely a difference between having a beer or a good beer. With this said, getting a group of people into a room it can be very difficult to agree on what makes a good or bad beer. This is where Parallel 49 comes to the rescue. No matter what type of beer you like, they will probably have a beer that you will think is a good beer. If you're a person that's happy with almost any beer, Parallel 49 has some terrific beers that may sway you to choose one as a favorite. Parallel 49 is located a little bit off the beaten path, just a few blocks north of Hastings and half a block over from Victoria Drive. Although a bit out of the way in the Vancouver industrial area, it allows Parallel 49 to have the space they need to make the beer, have a tasting room and have a retail side. Its location also has the advantage that there is a lot of parking (Remember though, if you're not just picking up some brews to go and are going to taste some of their beers in the tasting room, be sure to have a designated driver). At Parallel 49, you can buy bottles, growlers and kegs of beer at the shop. Growlers at Parallel 49 are one the best deals on beer in town. After buying your own Parallel 49 growler bottle ($5) or bringing in another empty growler that you own, you can buy 1.8L of one of their tasty beers for $10-13! For almost any 6 pack of beer (about 1.8 L) you're paying more and if you are paying less it's probably for a tasteless, mass produced beer. In their tasting room you enjoy their brews that they make. They have 4 beers that are staples: Hoparazzi, Ruby Tears, Old Boy and Lord of the Hops. All are flavourful, and are between 5-7.2%. Although it's seasonal, my absolute favorite beer they produce is their Ugly Sweater Milk Stout. If you have not tried it, I highly recommend you see if you can hunt some down and try it. My wife, who likes lighter or fruit flavoured beers, really enjoys the seasonal seedspitter (watermelon) beer. As a heads up, the tasting room does not serve any food, but on Fridays and weekends, there is usually one of the many Vancouver food trucks parked outside to sell food to people enjoying the tasty beers inside. If you can't make it to the brewery, you can find Parallel 49 products throughout the lower mainland and BC in restaurants, pubs, and liquor stores. For me, it is one of the most consistent and best tasting beer microbreweries in BC. In fact, I think I'm going to go enjoy a cold brew from Parallel 49 right now. Cheers! It's a nice place to hang out, especially during off hours when the place is not super busy. The beer selection changes frequently that you always have something new to try. Get a flight! You can't possibly try all beer they have, but you can try four different kinds. They also have ginger beer and root beer for non-alcoholics. The kitchen always has a decent selection of food. Boombox Brewing also brews at Parallel 49 Brewery and they make excellent beer. You can definitely find something to satisfy your taste buds here. read more

Killer brewery and tasting room. Great selection of beers and 'fizzlers' - basically fruit flavored beers that are pure deliciousness. I loved the scene here, they were playing funky music and there was a good buzz in the room. We ordered a flight of beers, and loved them all. It was cheap to sample a few, and I will be sure to get a growler next time for just over $10. The hard part will be deciding which of their amazing brews to choose from! Would recommend hitting this up on a little bike brewery tour, maybe grab a pizza at Nicly's after if you get hungry afterwards. I might just have to do this next weekend... read more

My favorite brewery in town; Parallel 49 cranks out some great beer. 187 onah, cornhops, filthydirty and tuques of hazard imperial white IPA are all some of my favorite IPA's brewed in the province. Seeing that parallel 49 has some of the coolest art on the bottles, I was a little disappointed to see how lackluster there tasting room looked. However with $3 sleeves of craft beer, I'll just drink a couple extra until the walls look cool. read more
