Connecticut lobster roll + lobster bisque

Price/quality (2/4): Came here for Salty's Lobster Shack. While the lobster rolls were cheap, some of it the lobster filling appeared to be imitation crab sticks. I understand that it's difficult to get 100% lobster for that price, but imitation crab sticks are a lackluster substitute. Service (1/1): Service was friendly and effective. Would I come here again: Maybe, for the beer at least. They also have a deal with Downlow Chicken Shack, so you can actually get some chicken from there and walk over to East Van Brewing.

This place has lots of seating and on top, lots of free street parking too. We came here as a group of 5 at night. We sat at a round table. Because it was during the Covid Pandemic, we were not allowed to move the seats around when sitting at the round table. The stools around the table need be on a designated marked X sign on the ground. The best deal beer to get here is the Sustance. Also note that it is a better to get the flight of 4 and not the 6 beers here. It is ironic but yes the pricing is in the favor of the 4 and not the 6. The beer is a hit and miss. Some are good and some are bad. I do like the atmosphere here. At night, it does get very loud and it is not easy to have a good conversation especially when you are sitting at a giant round table. Also they have partnered with different food trucks in town. I suggest to call and see what food truck will be onsite over the weekend. The night we went was Takenaki (which is the reason why I came here). Service was good here. You don't order at the bar. They come and take your order at the table. Pricing is good too.

The primary reason for going here was the constant precedes of the lobster-loving food card, Saltys. However, I found it to be a very interesting location with friendly staff and a large selection of beer to choose from. I'm not sure it would be my vibe on a late Friday or weekend night given the location, however. As for the lobster roll, which was the WARM CONNECTICUT LOBSTER ROLL was good but expensive at $24.95 I expected more from all of the hype. It is minced, with a few small chunks here and there to save on costs I suspect but given the price, I think they were stretching things a little bit too thin. However, I still give a high rating because it was tasty, the service was good and the beer recommendation was right on point. It's a place that to me looks like it has a lot of character. I also noticed as Summer is coming up they have a large selection of outdoor seating for those who want that.

I've been here twice now, the first time was good, the server was nice, the second time, the server was ok. To be honest my main reason to come here was for the lobster roll. So what's better with a lobster roll then with a cold beer on a hot summer day? The first time I actually had one of their lobster rolls was at one of their trucks (Salty's Lobster Shack) It was really good, big chunks of lobster and nicely toasted bun. The rolls I had here to be honest weren't that good, the lobster meat was all minced up and I hate to say it, it almost tasted like imitation meat (the Connecticut did taste better than the Maine though). The next time I'm craving a lobster roll I'm gonna hit up one of their trucks. I do like the atmosphere of this place, it's very chill and I like the set up. They have a decent selection of beers. They also have outdoor patio seating as well. There is I believe 2 hr parking on Venables......

Our main reason for stopping by East Van Brewing was to try Salty's Lobster Shack and are we glad we did! There was a bit of a wait on a Thursday evening but it moved quickly and it was probably only about 15-20 minutes. There's quite a bit of seating inside and if it was sunny, much more outside as well. But to the main highlight - Salty's Lobster. I've been craving lobster for a while since living out in Nova Scotia for a while and this is the closest thing that I've had on the West Coast. In particular, I was a big fan of the Connecticut Roll and it was packed with bits of lobster! The beers were a nice complement and staff were all extremely friendly at East Van Brewing!

    $6 flight for 4 x 4 ounces. Pretty cheap!

I've driven by a few times and always wanted to check this place out. We walked in and there was some live music that was awesome. I can't think of too many breweries that have that going on. I don't know if it's a normal thing but hope they keep that up! Besides that, the place was pretty busy for a Thursday night. It was also dark, and maybe a bit darker than I would like, but I could also imagine if it was brighter, it would look like a concrete jungle. I don't know how I feel about that lighting and vibe. They do have an awesome space seating wise. Besides the space, the beer was not bad. I was disappointed there were no sours offered, and felt a little underwhelmed by all the beer. Didn't really feel like I had that many suggestions given after my face was disappointed that there were no sours and it wasn't that busy.. One amazing thing is that they do have $6 flights of four 4 oz beers!

One of the latest places to open up in the craft beer space. Parking is available along Venables. As others have mentioned, the place feels a lot more like a pub than a strict tasting room. There is a mezzanine above the main area, but it was closed the day I went. Staff were friendly, though the lineup was a bit chaotic. They need to put a bit more space between the tables and the bar counter. There are 2 kind of flights here: the regular flight (4x tasters), but also a cross of beer (6x tasters), shaped like, you guessed it, the East Van Cross. The cross obviously makes for better photos and street cred, but it is also a worse deal ($10) than the flight ($6). If the owner is reading this review, please fix this. The beers are mostly of the medium to dark variety. Decent taste, though nothing realy stuck out to be honest. Worth checking out if one is thirsty in the area.

I like the space. This place is more pub-like than some breweries and has quite a bit of seating (not to mention ACDC pinball). The beers have a good reputation and they serve a few items that are assembled by external parties such as a decent cubano sandwich, but they are not a restaurant.

Such a gem of a brewery! Had a few flights and so.e food! Outside seating was great even if its on a street kinda?! Great service too. The beers were all really good, it was a first visit for me and I will be back again!

The lobster is the texture of cat food...

Wtf is this? Why mince lobster? The texture was so nasty..ew. I couldn't eat the lobster combo.

I don't think there's a good excuse to charge $9.50 for one beer. Nice building though

Not a ton of beer options, but the Jive House Ale, and the Wheelbite IPA were both pretty good.

I started with a flight of their popular beers: Salted Lime Lager, Paloma Grapefruit Lager, Cerveza Light Lager, Orange Fresca Pilsner. The beers have won a few awards so I was not disappointed. My least favourite was the cerveza. It had a strong rice flavour and compared to the rest, not memorable. The grapefruit was stunning! Probably my favourite. Next was the salted Lime. You really can't go wrong with that! All so unique and excited to grab these at BCLS now! I also got the Fondue Nachos (Tortilla chips with monterrey cheese, pico de gallo, home-made garlic mayo, pickled jalapeños, pico de gallo and refried beans). This was a pile of happiness. So many competing flavours and nice touches. The garlic mayo with the handmade salty chips was great. The refried beans combined with the guac was so fresh and warm! Really nice place for good eats, fast service, and delicious beers!
