This place has lots of seating and on top, lots of free street parking too. We came here as a group of 5 at night. We sat at a round table. Because it was during the Covid Pandemic, we were not allowed to move the seats around when sitting at the round table. The stools around the table need be on a designated marked X sign on the ground. The best deal beer to get here is the Sustance. Also note that it is a better to get the flight of 4 and not the 6 beers here. It is ironic but yes the pricing is in the favor of the 4 and not the 6. The beer is a hit and miss. Some are good and some are bad. I do like the atmosphere here. At night, it does get very loud and it is not easy to have a good conversation especially when you are sitting at a giant round table. Also they have partnered with different food trucks in town. I suggest to call and see what food truck will be onsite over the weekend. The night we went was Takenaki (which is the reason why I came here). Service was good here. You don't order at the bar. They come and take your order at the table. Pricing is good too. read more

The primary reason for going here was the constant precedes of the lobster-loving food card, Saltys. However, I found it to be a very interesting location with friendly staff and a large selection of beer to choose from. I'm not sure it would be my vibe on a late Friday or weekend night given the location, however. As for the lobster roll, which was the WARM CONNECTICUT LOBSTER ROLL was good but expensive at $24.95 I expected more from all of the hype. It is minced, with a few small chunks here and there to save on costs I suspect but given the price, I think they were stretching things a little bit too thin. However, I still give a high rating because it was tasty, the service was good and the beer recommendation was right on point. It's a place that to me looks like it has a lot of character. I loved this place (especially the pickle flights and for the vibes). Located right off Commercial Drive, we came on a Friday right before 4 and it was PACKED! We had to wait but it wasn't long. We stayed maybe an hour and the amount of people just stopping to get beer to go was amazing! Clearly a hot spot. I like a light beer (sorry beer lovers) so I stuck with their Community Lager. Just like it is advertised, it was crisp and fresh! We also got some pickle flights. My friend has never had a Kaylin and Hobbs pickle (who is he?) so the flight was perfect. Each flavor (Mustard, Kosher Dill, Jalapeno and Horseradish) and cut for a perfect sharing experience. We also got the chips and salsa/queso (pretty limited for vegan options). Salsa is pretty average, my friend enjoyed the queso, and the chips were hot! We got beer to go and walked around the drive to end a really fun experience. Service was good. So what's better with a lobster roll then with a cold beer on a hot summer day? The first time I actually had one of their lobster rolls was at one of their trucks (Salty's Lobster Shack) It was really good, big chunks of lobster and nicely toasted bun. The rolls I had here to be honest weren't that good, the lobster meat was all minced up and I hate to say it, it almost tasted like imitation meat (the Connecticut did taste better than the Maine though). Our main reason for stopping by East Van Brewing was to try Salty's Lobster Shack and are we glad we did! There was a bit of a wait on a Thursday evening but it moved quickly and it was probably only about 15-20 minutes. There's quite a bit of seating inside and if it was sunny, much more outside as well. But to the main highlight - Salty's Lobster. I've been craving lobster for a while since living out in Nova Scotia for a while and this is the closest thing that I've had on the West Coast. It was also dark, and maybe a bit darker than I would like, but I could also imagine if it was brighter, it would look like a concrete jungle. I don't know how I feel about that lighting and vibe. They do have an awesome space seating wise. Besides the space, the beer was not bad. I was disappointed there were no sours offered, and felt a little underwhelmed by all the beer. Didn't really feel like I had that many suggestions given after my face was disappointed that there were no sours and it wasn't that busy.. One of the latest places to open up in the craft beer space. Parking is available along Venables. As others have mentioned, the place feels a lot more like a pub than a strict tasting room. There is a mezzanine above the main area, but it was closed the day I went. Staff were friendly, though the lineup was a bit chaotic. They need to put a bit more space between the tables and the bar counter. There are 2 kind of flights here: the regular flight (4x tasters), but also a cross of beer (6x tasters), shaped like, you guessed it, the East Van Cross. The cross obviously makes for better photos and street cred, but it is also a worse deal ($10) than the flight ($6). If the owner is reading this review, please fix this. The beers are mostly of the medium to dark variety. Decent taste, though nothing realy stuck out to be honest. Worth checking out if one is thirsty in the area. read more

Must be wondering why I gave them one star.. the fact that they're selling people flatbread with barely any toppings on it and is smaller then most slices of pizza you find on the drive for which feels like 10 times the price. Tried out the new brew co. Thy have been trying to open for a while but apparently some permits held them up. They are still working out some of the kinks in running the place but they had a good selection. Vibe was noisy but manageable. They had both a flight of four and a "cross" which is 6 tasting size beers (4 oz each). If you live in Vancouver they are making a play on the East Van cross art piece by Ken Lum. Clever! For the beer itself it was tasty and they arranged them in order of IBUs. read more

Came here during the Culture Crawl so maybe not the best time to review since they were so busy....but a business has to be able to roll with the times. I love the inside. First off, it's big with tons of comfy seating. Some pubs and breweries can have uncomfortable seats but this is a place you could hang for a couple rounds. Love the seats at the bar too cause I'm a pull up to the bar kinda gal. I was with a friend tho so we managed to snag a corner table after stalking and watching. We each got the 6 glass flight which was awesomely priced! 2 of my choices were mixed up- well one was omitted and the other was duplicated. My friend had one of hers missing and a substitute IPA instead. I brought mine to their attention and they were quickly replaced. To be honest, I wasn't wowed by any one beer. I'm a saison fan and the Rye Saison I believe, tasted really bizarre....I couldn't place it bland I couldn't finish it. None of the beers were awful, but for my tastes, there wasn't one I wanted a 2nd glass of. I know breweries change and make new batches constantly so I'll try EVBC again for sure, when there is something new for try. read more

Lots of room which is great for groups and ease of finding spots on the weekend. I had a flight and really only one of the beers was very good. Nothing bad, just rather so so. The space just isn't comfortable, the "booth" style tables are wooden benches along the wall and metal chairs, I love to plant somewhere and have a few rounds with friends but this place is just a bit cold and hard. read more

Best part is the 2 giant spools they made into tables! Definitely looks like they poured money into the initial decor. And then stopped? The beer ranged from decent to meh. Blackberry saison was nice and I'm more of a pale ale kind of person. Growler fills were pricey when they first opened but now it's good - $6 for 1L, $12 for the 2L. It's a bit overly 'we're super local' to me - like where you are a bit suspicious...if you have to say it so much...why is that? Food on their menu comes from various local places. They have a 6 beer sampler that sits on a board in the shape of a cross (um...) It's no savings compared to getting the 4 beer paddle, but you can watch the server struggle to keep it balanced. Also if you sit by the window you can watch people's feet go by, because the seating area is subterranean. read more
