One of my favourite breweries hands down. So much character. The decor is unpolished at best. It's more of a workshop than a brewery, but in a charming way. They do creative and quirky beers that are constantly changing. Check their Instagram for weekly "brainstorms" like Turkey Dinner IPA, Hot Night in Thailand (chili peppers), and Pizza Pilsner. I did their 12 Fills of Christmas this year and it was awesome! You prepay, and each week of December you come pick up 2-3 growler fills of special holiday brews. Plenty of free parking on the surrounding streets, or it's just off Hastings for transit, or bike-able. read more

This place feels authentic. You are surrounded by the tanks, and the staff are always welcoming. The standard beers are top notch and the Brainstorms are always fun. This is my go to spot for craft beer and I can see why Justin McElroy compares every other craft brewery spot to Storm- it is the original and still the best! read more

It's been too long since my first visit to Storm Brewing so after checking out the Weirdos Christmas Market, we headed to Storm for a few drinks. It's located in a random, industrial area. I had no idea they've been around for over 20 years (since 1994)! We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 4:00pm) to find it busy. They've stuck with the no frills vibe; no flights or seating. They have upped the decor with taxidermy rats, dinosaur skulls and hamster balls. They also have cans for sale (only hurricane IPA was available), growler refills and of course, you can sample 6 beers for $7.00. They've got their own branded cups now. There was 10 beer options along with their mainstays. Service is friendly and fast. Love how they were filling people's water bottles and mason jars in lieu of growlers. - Pineapple paradise pilsner - this was my favourite out of all the ones we sampled. Almost like drinking pineapple juice! - Pineapple upside down cake ale - this one was also good but had more of a caramel after note. - Cherry bob ale - this was a hint of being a cherry sour. Would have liked them to go all the way with it and commit. - Raspberry rosemary pilsner - same thing with the raspberry. Very light raspberry tones. - I am gruit sour ale - think this was grapefruit. Citrusy and a bit sour. - Eggnog latte stout - didn't get much eggnog flavour. This one smelled and reminded me of a Coca Cola slurpee. - Imperial flounders sour ale - one of their mainstays. Almost getting into that vinegary sour state; wouldn't be able to drink a lot of this. My absolute FAVE brewery (Vancouver has a ton so that's saying a lot). Like after a while you know what an IPA is going to taste like, what a Lager is going to taste like, ladidadida. What you don't know is what Pizza Pilsner is going to taste like. What the frick is a Hot Night in Thailand going to taste like? What about a Lavender Vanilla Ale or a Dark Chocolate Strawberry Stout? I was initially scared because my friend told me the place was a lil on the ratchet side with no seating in a warehouse-like building but THAT WAS A HUGE MISTAKE! To think I could've been experiencing these divine beers 5 months prior. If you want unique beers, don't make the same mistake I did!! Well...what are you waiting for? I simply love this place. I was visiting Vancouver last week and was able to stop in. The beer is fantastic and there are many creative variations that they produce. Had my old favorite the Vanilla Whiskey stout as well as the Turkey Dinner IPA and the Plum-a Geddon sour. All were exceptional. Storm is.... sketchy looking as hell and they play that up hard. If you are looking for an antiseptic looking tap room then don't go here. If you want great beer and an off the wall atmosphere then its for you. Because of a lack of room inside, their Covid mitigation is to have a few pallets in the loading dock and drinks outside. It was so much fun. I can't recommend this place enough, rats and all. read more

I came here in February in a brew tour. This was by far, my favorite brewery in town. I came back again and it confirmed it again. Beers are definitely unique in a sense of creativity and balance. From their Pineapple pils to their Lavender Vanilla Ale. If your not a beer fan, I feel that you'll find something you'll enjoy. Storm is the definition of craft beer! Weird! But, it feels like you're in a friends garage! They have their staples and some unique flavoured tasters offered in a plastic cup, but keep your cup because reusing is cool! As ghetto as the place is, if I have to describe this place in 2 words, it would be "street cred". Parking is available right in front. I had tried many many times to get into this place, but always found it curiously closed, even during their horrendously short hours. Turns out I had been incorrectly trying their front door - the correct entrance is to R side. It's really a door meant for vehicles or really obese people, but it works for me. Just a note - as this is not a true tasting room, there are no seats or anything. You're really expected to just try a sample or two, fill your growler, and leave. What really amazes me is that the owners managed to create a brewery with so many different beers in such a small space! When you walk in, you'll think you're in a mechanic's shop - you're literally surrounded by tap parts, pumps, and other equipment. There's a freezer in the back, a ghetto-counter in front of it, and to the side are these vats. Oh, and don't forget the mice scurrying around. Wow. As they don't sell tasters like most other brew pubs in town (I'm guessing it's a licensing issue), one is forced to get free samples instead. It's a really tough decision to make when you're surrounded by some 20 samples. They do conveniently have a donation jar. Gotta love fighting legal technicalities with loopholes. The staff were very friendly, and stopped cleaning their tanks just to serve my buddy and me. I had the orange creamsicle - it really does taste like the real thing we all had as kids. I found my new favourite brewery in Vancouver! I've had Storm's beer at other restaurants but had never been to the brewery itself. I'm kicking myself in the ass that I've waited this long to visit the source! First things first, their beer is SO GOOD. My top two faves being their Pineapple Paradise Pilsner and Lemon Dill IPA. The Pineapple Pilsner has got to be the most refreshing beer I've ever drank. And it tastes like real pineapples! Pineapple is my favourite fruit and whenever I see that a brewery has incorporated it into one of their beers, I always need to try it. Storm's pineapple pilsner is by far the best in the city. Hands down. Second, unlike most breweries in Vancouver, Storm isn't a tasting lounge/taproom. They don't have flights or pints. They don't even have tables or chairs for you to sit down. When you walk in there's a counter for you to pick up growlers/kegs and sample some of their featured taps. But upon walking in, you see where the magic happens right away. They also offer informal brewery tours through Vancouver Brewery Tours. It's a bit of a different brewery experience, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve the 5 stars nonetheless. Hats off to you, Storm. I'll be back to pick up some more Pineapple Pilsner soon. read more

The thing I loved most here were the super friendly staff. I came here with a friend for one of their sample tastings, and even though I'm not much of a beer person, I was thoroughly impressed with their selection of beer to try (there are some pretty dang interesting things to try off their Brainstorms section). There were a lot of people mingling about, and the staff really set the mood for everyone by being super friendly and awesome, joking around with the patrons and having lots of fun themselves. The sample sizes are very generous as well, so it makes for a great hang-out activity as with 6 samples you can really mill around and chat for a bit! A couple of things I didn't like though: super sticky floors once you get past the entrance area and flies everywhere. read more

At a time when Vancouver craft beer is flying and tap rooms are becoming more swanky and trendy Storm is a reminder that craft beer usually starts in a shed with some buckets and hoses. Despite looking like a demented Leatherface version of Willy Wonker's Ale Factory, the beer is sublime and more inventive than an HG Wells Christmas cook book. There's a serious commitment to crazy flavour combinations. There is no tap room to speak of, so this is a try and then buy a growler-fill type situation (or try and tip - properly). The staff are bloody wonderful and will give you up to six free beer tasters. Which is just fucking awesome. Just don't be an ahole who tries six free beers and leaves a $2 tip. Simultaneously the weirdest and best brewery I visited in Vancouver. Period. Stick your nose up as much as you want, beer snobs, but Storm Brewing is seriously unpretentious and fun which makes them unbelievably awesome. So let's start off by explaining *brainstorms* which are their rotating beer experiments that you get to try. The Cream Soda one nearly blew my mind. They had SO many amazing flavors. But wait... there's more! The samples are free. No seriously, by donation only. Obviously you would be a rude, demon of a person to not friggin' put some cash down after getting some amazing tastings of beer, but still. It's pretty darn cool. Pretty much what I'm saying is come in with an open mind and you will have a blast here. read more

Watch out. Though the beer is cheap, and God knows that that's important when you're buying beer by the keg, Storm beer has a notorious reputation for the quality of its homebrewed ales and lagers. It's not just that the flavor is sub-par, that could easily be remedied by drinking enough to get to the point where all beer tastes the same (say 2-4, depending on your bodyweight). It's that the beer is not a particularly happy drunk, giving the drinker potential nausea, and a feeling of heaviness. And sure, you can do that drinking anything, but it can't help that you need to drink more than a six pack worth of Storm to get a decent buzz started. One of those strange "I'm not drunk yet but I should be" feelings that American beers will give you. It's all fun until you need to pee and you're not drunk enough to do it in public. Still, if you're only planning on serving it to others and buying hard bar for yourself, it's probably what's called for at your house party or rave, especially if you're still in high school and money is an issue. It's the lowest common denominator of kegged beer in Vancouver, perfect if you like the flavor of Colt 45 but always thought that 7% was too high. read more

Not your nicest brewery- but they are one of the nicest bunch of people. Everyone behind the register was awesome and helpful. -Street parking, So be patient. They give you a cup to sample their beers, and everything is by donation. And should i mention that this is the first beer that i can think of that i have sampled to be 25% abv.. straight beer. No other liquor additives. Go try it for youself. Its served in a shot glass. Holy cow- this beer can do damage if you had a full pour of this.. Sip and enjoy. and Tip you fellow Storm brew-tenders. Yoooo. This place is hella ghetto, I love it! You walk in, and your like... what the heck is this place... But I wouldn't change a thing. Came in on a Saturday night, it was lit. Packed with a bunch of people. It's $7 for 6 samples. Don't forget to keep your cup! Had various flavours, my fav was the pineapple pils and the blood orange IPA. Had quite a bit of selection for a tiny place. Staff was great and friendly. I appreciated the fact that they used a megaphone for last call and kept telling people not to line up if you already got a cup, just come up for refills. I am a rat person. I don't mean, I like rats-- I just live like one. Obviously then, this place speaks to me. Most of the beers aren't particularly good, and it's not even that convenient for me to get here, but I find myself here fairly often anyways. There's no pretension and the beer comes cheap. I know, I said most of the beers aren't particularly good, so you're probably thinking, "why the hell do you even go there, you idiot!?" I go because the beers are weird, and as much as I love IPAs and sours, I also like putting weird things into my mouth hole. The brainstorms are a lot of fun to try, and the samplers are just enough beer to get a good taste, and a good buzz! Also, the Flanders Red is one of my favourite sours around. It's almost like drinking nail polish remover, and I REALLY REALLY like that for some reason. Plus, the staff is real nice to me and my rat people friends. This place is weird and wonderful all rolled into one. The brewery itself isn't much to look at. Actually, my first impression walking in was that I went in the wrong door and accidentally went into a scrap metal place or some other type of business. It's kind of a mess. Aside from it not looking like your typical craft brewery, there is beer here; and it's delicious! They don't do flights. They don't do pints. They don't do bottles or cans. But what they do offer is samples and growler fills. You get a plastic cup and your choice of up to six samples, one at a time, on a "pay what you can" scheme. Not sure how this is legal, but I'm not from BC so I'm not up and up on their liquor laws.There's no place to sit either which probably plays a part in the free sample thing. I'm told the reason they don't have cans or bottles is that they don't want to pasteurize their beer which could possibly change the flavour. I can respect that but at the same time I call BS. There's breweries out there that don't pasteurize and still package and distribute their beer. It comes down to shelf life and business model. These guys probably don't want to invest in the equipment and just want to run a little brewery where they can spend time making their weekly delicious experiments, which is cool. As for those experiments, they have 8 beers that they change out weekly and a handful of their mainstays. The most surprising was their beets IPA. They mash up beets, let them naturally ferment, then mix the beets into their standard IPA. It was really good. The other that I really like was their Imperial. The beer is great. I loved all of them, but I like the fruity stuff the most so Pineapple Paradise was my jam. So many unique brews to choose from. Some really strong ones too. At my small frame getting a sample of 6 beers, some of them 10% alcohol leaves a VERY happy Priti. As a tourist visiting Vancouver for the first time and getting to enjoy the scene here, Storm Brewing is dope. I would recommend fo' sho'. read more

I give this amazing brewery five stars for their unique set up. There are no "flights" but one can have six tastes (I think I remember this # correctly) for a donation. The tastes are generous. They have regular offersings and the "Brain Storms" - which are creative beauties out of the mind of a genius (aka James, the owner). I have enjoyed the "Turkey Dinner" - with a taste of sage in there. There is always something fun and interesting on tap. The space is very punk industrial. It is not a fancy room - but it suits the beers and the edgy nature of the business and the 'hood where it is located. I like to do "crawls" up and down Commercial Drive. Ohhhhhhh hello new favourite brewery! Boyfriend and I took a delightful bike tour of the Powell St brewery area last Saturday, and this was both of our favourite spot! Our fourth stop on the tour, we were definitely feeling a little merry when we arrived! We chained our bikes up outside and followed the flow of people strolling happily through the sunshine to Storm. We entered to find ourselves right on the brewery floor, and weaved our way through the crowd to find some very helpful signs letting us know the score: no flights, no pints, you get a glass and a max of six fills. SIX! And they really make sure you taste what you choose - no tiny sips here. We were gleeful - between two of us we could have tasted 12 beers!! I... don't *think* we tried that many... But every single beer we tried was unbelievable - unique, full flavoured, but not gimicky AT ALL! We tried cream soda beer, pineapple beer, gin and tonic beer, iced mocha beer, a raspberry Berliner Weisse (I think) and hot damn there wasn't a single one that wasn't amazing. We filled our growlers with raspberry and pineapple delights, and I would have filled my boots too if I'd been wearing any. I love that they have highlights from their Yelp reviews written out behind the counter - it made for some hilarious reading while we sipped on Storm's delicious creations! Next time I've GOT to ask about the plastic rats scattered through the brewery because I'm sure there's a story there! I seriously cannot wait to go back! read more

The cheapest kegs around, and a great beer to boot! If you are all about supporting your local businesses, Storm was founded and is run in Vancouver, making it an awesome local micro-brewery. If you happen to be by Commercial and Hastings stop by and take a tour, it's not that big but the owner and the work team is really nice. They only do kegs but they are by far the cheapest in town. Plus, the selection and the taste is top notch. You'll find their beer at various tap houses and bars in Vancouver. I don't even like IPA, but their's is devine. The Scottish ale is super yum as well. They also do seasonal small batches like their echinacea lager which apparently has healing powers, wow! Do not be swayed by the nay-sayers, they probably don't know how to pump their own kegs anyway. This beer is delish, the staff wonderful, and apparently Mayor Gregor Robertson is a fan as well. read more
