BEER NERDS, WE HAVE FOUND THE MOTHERSHIP. Yoooooo, I had no idea Vancouver had a beer scene!! I don't think there's anything like 33 brewing experiment elsewhere...at least not in the States. You know it's brew-nerd-run when "test brews" are being marketed and promoted. I'm actually surprised the demand isn't higher. If this was in another big city filled with brew nerds, they'd definitely have difficulty meeting the high demand. I found out about this place after doing some research. We only had time to visit one or two breweries during our short time in Vancity, and this minimalist and clean/clear-cut vibes brewery stood out. Both of us were glad we came. I went with a flight of four for $9. YUP, nine humble Canadian dollars! It doesn't beat that. Sure, the seating inside is limited...and it feels like you're in a showroom in a curated living room of a house that's on sale. BUT it's got those muted, eggshell and stone grey palettes that millennials love. I was stoked about their menu. I had no idea what to pick because everything sounded delicious. PLENTY of hazy IPA's await you, but there are also unique picks like a rice lager, berry sour, berliner! I loved all of the beers, but the Fluffy Cloud IPA takes the medal. It was the perfect amount of juice, mouthfeel and summer-y flavor. The gents working behind the tap are super friendly and very kind. I love that their restrooms are clean and wifi is strong. We kicked off a beer crawl here and wanted to go to a brewery with good food to get brunch in our stomachs. This was a great decision, and everyone who'd been here before (and often, because a lot of them had worked nearby!) agreed. Their food is incredibly reasonably price too. The space is bright and quite Instagram-worthy with white walls and a big tub full of growing cacti. The food was probably the best quality brunch I've had in Vancouver, and the beer was loved by all (they even make a cider for non-beer-lovers like me!). THE WAIT: About 3/4 full when we arrived at noon on a Saturday. It only got more and more crowded by the time we left around 3pm; people were waiting for seats by then! But the turnover is high so I don't think people had to wait long. The line at the counter comes and goes in waves throughout. THE SERVICE: Friendly, and your food/drink comes out fast. THE FOOD: * Avocado Smash ($10) - 4.5 stars Delicious, as many agreed, the best avocado toast in town. The avocado was perfectly ripe, and the fresh ingredients on top were perfect. The edges of the toast were a bit too crispy for my taste, but I still enjoyed this overall. * Poached Eggs & Toast ($10) - 4 stars A simple recipe, but the ingredients and cooking were of superb quality. * Side of potatoes - 2 stars I saw someone else order this and thought it looked delicious, but looks can be deceiving. Looks like 33 Acres has now expanded. This location is right next door to the original brewery, and serves their latest test batches. Parking is available on the side streets. The interior has some couches, as well as a corner with "steps" and cushions. To be honest, there aren't enough seats in here. The place is jam packed with hipsters. Staff were friendly. As everything is experimental, I imagine most of the batches are limited time only, until they tweak the recipe. To be honest the beers here weren't that good. Maybe I just got unlucky. Flights here are noticeable more expensive than the competition, at some $11 a flight. Yikes. Something to keep in mind. Overall it's a neat idea, but I think I'll stick to the non experimental side. read more

Our second brewery stop for the afternoon was at 33 Brewing Experiment. It's been awhile since I've been to 33 Acres and noticed they have a whole new space next door that specializes in their experimental flavours. Heck, they even have their own pizza food truck outside. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 4:30pm) and the place was bumping. There's multiple tables but in one corner, they have the oddest tiered/layered seating I've ever seen. It's completely cramped and uncomfortable but people sat there anyways. There was 15 beers on tap along with a house cider. I was surprised to see they've started to make their own cider. Their merchandise is cool but easily the most EXPENSIVE I've seen at a brewery. $60.00 for hats and $95.00 for a crewneck sweater?!? Whose buying these? - 3x Flights ($12.00) - we went with the orange oat pale ale, cranberry session saison, Brett pale ale with apricot and cider. None of these were good. All the experimental beers had so little flavour; I can't comprehend how bland and unflavourful they were. The cider was okay but it's dry and again I found little flavour. My friend's flight had a pacific hazy pale ale (the lightest hazy I've tasted), Belgian table biere (meh) and sea salt IPA. The group felt the same way and no one really enjoyed their beers. I can't even say what one buddy's true feelings were on them. Honestly, I've never understood the hype on 33 Acres and their experimental room has confirmed my feelings on them. Awesome place for beer in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. They have a patio with a decent amount of seating given the current covid restrictions. We came here on a Sunday afternoon, had 3 groups ahead of us, and still were seated within 30 minutes so there is a quick turnaround time. I am a big fan of 33 Acres Brewing especially given the fact that they have a lot of experiments on tap that rotate often. Apparently there is also a food truck outside usually. There was a pizza truck when we were there. My first impression was that the place looked pretty fancy and modern inside. 33 Acres is one of my favorite players in the Vancouver craft beer scene, and I think they totally deserve their popularity. I've never had a 33 Acres brew that I thought was a miss despite the wide variety in flavor profiles. At the brewery itself, space is super limited but during summertime they have tons of patio spaces which are great to grab an afternoon or evening drink. The location has a stripped-down, minimalist vibe. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, but lines can get quite long during weekend evenings so try to plan accordingly. I've honestly never had their food before, so I can't speak to that, but I totally recommend this for the drinks. Prices are very reasonable, barely above what you'd pay for their beers in liquor stores (which I'd definitely recommend -- their bottles are super cute too). Best part is, 33 Acres is super close to Main St. / Mount Pleasant but is tucked away far enough that parking is not too much of a pain in the butt :D If the location was a little more fun to visit, it would be 5 stars for sure. Anyway if your focus is on trying brews with friends then this place is pretty perfect and I love it for what it is. read more

I've come here several times And have now come to the conclusion that it wasn't just a one-off experience to feel like the staff here are genuinely annoyed that they have to serve anyone. I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot, and am perfectly happy with straightforward friendly service. However the servers here go the extra mile to make you feel like you've ruined their day by showing up for a meal. So goes the tagline on their digital platforms. Besides the incorrect semicolon usage, everything else in this tastefully decorated space proves to be as advertised. Upon entering the spacious interior next to the 33 Acres mothership storefront (both retail portals share the same brewing facility in the back), you are momentarily confused as to where you are. Is this a lifestyle store? Clothing brand? Hip furniture showroom? The answer is yes. And then you see the massive amount of black type printed on the glass wall, like labels on your science lab beakers. Besides abbreviations and decimals, and in addition to brewery buzzwords - wheat, IPA, Belgian, hazy, pale, hopped, saison, session, gose - you'll notice ingredients such as pineapple, date shake, nectarine, black currant, tangerine. The experiments are enticing and you're bound to find something that works for you. Just try not to knock over one of the beautifully potted plants on the floor. read more

Always a favourite, and probably my favourite brewery for its ambience, location and good memories. They've got plants in white pots perched on a ladder in one corner, and a homey corner on the other side of the brewery with an antique wooden bookcase, a rug, and their famous B33R merchandise. My fridge is never without a 6-pack of their Sunshine (French Blanche). Very light and easy to drink. I've also tried Euphoria, a slightly darker beer but still prefer the former. For food, depending on how hungry you are and the time of the day I would recommend brunch, their honey garlic sausage, or cheese board. For brunch, I like their waffles best. When you order the tomato avocado benedict you have a choice of having it served on a biscuit or waffle. If you haven't already ordered the sweet version of the waffles, I would suggest going for the waffle so you can try both waffle and benedict. I find their waffles to be very fluffy and soft, which I like. I love their side salads because it's arugula, my favourite! It seems like half portions are available because the staff suggested it to me when I went back to order a second brunch dish. I really enjoyed the B33R waffles because it was garnished with blueberry and the best part: maple butter. I'm usually hesitant on ordering sweet breakfast dishes, afraid that it would be too sweet but this wasn't the case here. The cheese board is meant for sharing. Don't attempt to finish it all by yourself like I did. Luckily I ran into some friends and gave the rest away because I saw them eyeing it before we said hi. I loved the blueberry and honey drizzle, though I wish the bread was a bit softer for my tough grandma teeth. Honey garlic sausage, self explanatory; something small and relatively affordable to nibble on while you enjoy your beer. A few things preclude me from giving 5 stars: their one bathroom stall which always has a line up, the wait during busy evenings, portion sizes + price for both beer and food, and my eggs when I come for brunch. They're not always consistent and most recently one of my eggs was barely runny, even though I was asked how I wanted my eggs poached (soft). Luckily, the wait problem can be addressed by heading over to 33 EXP next door now. I still prefer the original brewery though with the permanent beers. The portion of their beers bug me especially because their glasses are either as large as my face or as small as my fist. I wish there was an in-between size! read more

Maybe not a fair review based on the fact that I only had a cider and a latte but both were fantastic. But I posted this review for community pizza so I am going to share here too! Will definitely be back to try what looked like yummy food rushing past me!! Just had the best lunch meeting! Went to meet a friend at 33 Acres so we could have one of their delish ciders and a latte - I know! Decadent, right?? And although their food looked great (I will go back to eat there at some point, promise!) I opted instead to grab a slice of pizza from the Community Pizza truck parked outside. What a cool reciprocal relationship, right? Two separate businesses working in sympatico! So my friend got there before me and went ahead and ordered because there was such a long line up - I overheard them say later That they had served 40-50 people in 90 minutes. And I thought I worked hard!! The pizza was fantastic - a bit of charring on the chewy thin crust added to my delight - and my prosciutto and arugula pizza (with oil oil, garlic and parmesan) was DIVINE! I ate the whole thing even though I was stuffed. I will definitely go back - and tempted to try all the pizza combos although I don't know how they can top this one! I told the guy cooking the pizzas afterwards that I loved him - and meant it. And now I must nap!!! read more

I finally made it to 33!! I always hear good things about this brewery and I am happy I got to try it out. This place is happening and always busy. Luckily we got the last two spots at the window. Pretty entertaining people watching if you can snag a window seat! I saw a dog dressed in electric pink zebra stripes and some other interesting outfits wander by. Counter staff were super friendly and helpful and really know their menu! Lots of food options, but I just came to drink! We did a flight so we could see what we like. The cider is a little tart for my liking, but the 33 acres of Sunshine was fantastic. Sunshine is a wheat beer, and nice and light. It has that mild fruity flavor, but it is not really sweet at all. I also really enjoyed the 33 acres of Euphoria, 9% and you would never know it!! Smoooooth!!!!! A bit creamy... I highly recommend trying those beers when you visit. Next time I'm eating as well. Oh, FYI... they have a pizza truck outside the brewery. You know, if when you leave you realised maybe you should have ate! ;P read more

Delicious beer and coffee in a super hip, modern space. Found it to be a great place for a post-breakfast drink on my vacation to Vancouver. This was our last stop in Vancouver, as well as our last brewery, and I can sincerely say we saved the best for last. The beer (and coffee) was top notch. Staff was friendly and helpful, providing quick service with really awesome attitudes. Bathroom was incredibly clean and without gender, for those not into being forced to label/identify their expression. All around good experience. read more

Awesome little brewery by a park. You can pick up to seat down to enjoy a fresh beer. They are currently only serving snack foods but there are some good options (pretzels) and the beers are really good. They have a couple of outdoor tables. They are great but straight under the sun so if you are planning to go mid day I recommend a hat! Staff was great and friendly. My favorite beer so far is the cloudy IPA. read more

The line ups here can get long if you find yourself going at a popular time, but I find that it's generally accessible if you going during brunch hours. I'm obsessed with the avocado smash. It's just one piece of toast (from Nelson and the seagull), but loaded with smashed avocado, thin sliced radish, pea shoots, cherry tomatoes, and a feta-type cheese--and I always add a poached egg. The hot sauce they smear on the side is just the right amount of hot. Really delicious. Another great brunch option is their waffles, which (I think) they switch up each week. I have a soft spot for 33 Acres. Maybe it's because they have good beer. Maybe it's because they have tasty food. Maybe it's because they have a tight-knit community vibe. Maybe it's because they're just freakin' awesome. I came to 33 Acres mid Vancouver Mural festival, but it seemed like a quarter of the festival had the same idea because it was PACKED. Luckily the line to get in moved really quickly. There was an usher/host at the door (with a rather cool swirly moustache), who guided guests on when they could come in (capacity reasons) and he let us know that the wait wouldn't be too long. Not even 5 minutes later we were able to go inside and order our drinks. In recent months my beer pallet has switched from lagers to IPAs. I'm so happy I made the switch because IPAs are 33 Acres shiz. My group of 3 all ordered the 33 Nirvana (grapefruit, candied orange, IPA). Their Nirvana is fairly popular because of the crisp fruity flavour. Their beer menu consists of different varieties - pale ales, lagers, ISAs and IPAs, a few of my favourites being their Nu (kolsch IPA), Euphoria (Belgian Tripel), and Nirvana (IPA). If you want some grub with your beer, they also serve up pub style food. I'm personally a fan of their brunch selection. Their avocado smash, muy caliente, and loaded biscuits are the bomb.com. From their "all day" menu, their cheese board, mezzi platter, and kettle chips + dip are a constant favourite. Their mac and cheese from their late night menu is also an Issabelle fave. What I'm saying is, there is something good from all their menus. The big winner here is that on Thursdays they have a taco special - 3 tacos for $10. I personally haven't been here on Taco Thursdays, but it's definitely on my list! 33 Acres open concept and community tables make it easy to strike up a conversation with your neighbors and make new friends while enjoying a drink. This is one of my favorite breweries, anywhere. I come from a microbrewery powerhouse, San Diego. I also live in the Yay and have been to Portland; big Hair of the Dog fan. Yet 33 Acres still lingers in my beer memory. They have range for sure, got a lot of variety and each sip is solid. Every time I've come here, I've annoyed the staff by getting a flight. There's just too much good beer to try. The pours are generous too. I can vouch for the 33 Acres of Sunshine, Darkness, Euphoria, and Nirvana. The Euphoria especially. It's a Belgian tripel, and it is delicious. The Sunshine is a refreshing session beer that packs a lot of flavor. For a brewery that has a lot of / majority non-IPAs, its IPA, Nirvana, is also hella good. I wish I could get their beer in Cali lol. But I like visiting their location, it's cozy with good vibes. read more

So hipster. Almost laughably so. A slightly larger discrepancy between beer sizes and you would have a Portlandia episode. You can have a small beer or a GIANT beer. Trendy little brewery with a strong hipster vibe. We stopped in after spending a rainy morning at Granville Island. We both got the four-pour flight so we could sample their offerings, and we also shared the bread plate (sadly, they were out of the pretzels, but I think it's because their supplier was closed for the holiday). The bread plate was good. Soft yet crusty sourdough accompanied by salted butter. It was served with a spoon (weird) and the tiniest of napkins (just one, also weird), but it was worth the price and a nice complement to the beer. I tried the cider, the apricot sour, the CREAM, and the Euphoria. All were very good. The sour and the Euphoria were my favorite. I love sour beers, and the Euphoria was a kick in the pants. The cider was crisp and dry, and while the cream was more standard than the rest, it was still very good. There's only one bathroom, but it was clean and on the larger side. Free wifi was a definite perk. The staff overall was cordial if a bit aloof (though the gentleman at the door was very nice). If you want a super comfy sweatshirt that says B33R on it, it'll run you $95. I wanted the sweatshirt until I saw the price. Yikes. I'll stick to the beer! read more
