This restaurant is a gem in south end. The menu was recently overhauled, so if you been before, go again! We had a party of 4 on a Saturday night and had a great experience from the moment we arrived to the last bite of our skillet cookie for dessert. Our server, Sky, was amazing! She was friendly, engaging and helpful with questions and recommendations. We all had drinks from the bar, and they were hands down some of the best drinks we've ever had (try the litchy limone for sure). Our favorite appetizer was the crab rangoon dumplings and the entree of the night was the short ribs. All were just great! Here me out. I have an annoying allergy, onions. It's in everything.... Pre made. I like to go to nice places with a chef because they can omit onions if things are made to order. In this case, I was told there is only one thing on the menu I could order. The duck. One picture is what Instagram told me it was and second it what I got. They failed to mention they had to remove a part of dish to accommodate. It changed the entire dish. I'm not sure where the communication broke down between the server or if the chef just didn't feel like accommodating but I still give it 0 stars. The markup on wine is $30 a bottle, my duck was over cooked, the veggies, I could do better. Regardless. I'll easily spend $300 on a single dinner if it's worth it. This, not a even worth it. Totally overhyped. Clarification: I did raise the issue to my server who said that was the only dish I could have, it had to be edited to accommodate my allergy (I guess I'm allergic to garnishes and soy glaze). The vibe is nice and our server this evening was very attentive and friendly. I had the lychee cocktail which was delicious - definitely enjoyed it. We also had the lo mein and short rib dumplings, again - no complaints, all delicious. However, I could not recommend this restaurant due to their prices. We spent over $100 on two small plates which amounted to appetizers and 2 drinks. It was not THAT good to charge $30 for one small plate. Tried out Para on a Friday night with my cousin. We had a 9:30 reservation, definitely recommend making reservations. We started with KAKIGŌRI sample to cleanse out pallets. Ordered a couple old fashions to start off the dinner pretty goo a bit sweet for our taste. This is a tapas restaurant so we ordered a few options and split between the two of us. Most dishes are served in a quantity of 3, but there is an option to add a 4th for an additional charge. Our meal consisted of Crab Rangoon, Deviled eggs, Lobster toast, lamb chops and Brussels and KAKIGŌRI. Crab Rangoon was made with a pretzel like crust and it was the highlight of the meal. The lobster toast was very satisfying and had a dab of caviar on top, the milk bread was a great pairing to the lobster salad. Lamb chops were ok the greens that were hidden underneath actually stole the show of the plate alongside the Brussel sprouts definitely made me want more veggies. We ordered KAKIGŌRI to end the meal but we quickly realized we aren't shaved ice fans in large portions. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable of their menu. Ambience and atmosphere gave you date night feels. They did have music playing in the background but it was at the right level and allowed for you to have conversations with the person you're with. Fantastic fun, foodie type food (5 star). Truffle cocktail, lobster and Waygu dishes notable. But ruined by club type atmosphere (3 star). Confusing. W/o the blaring club music at 7pm, this place would feel like a legit restaurant. But the vibe takes away from it. One word: trendy. I would say that for my first time there, it met expectations. Aesthetic was super cute, no one talked above a hushed level, and I didn't feel bothered by my neighbors even though we were super close together. I don't think someone with a walking device or wheelchair would be able to fit between tables. Something to note is if you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, you're charged $20 per person. The restaurant was not packed for a Wednesday night so I didn't have an issue finding parking at 7pm, and the service was timely. I felt that our food was prepared well and we didn't have to wait long for it. The cocktail I had was the blood moon which was a sweeter margarita topped with nutmeg-- I would definitely recommend it. I relied on Yelp photos to show me what some of the food looked like, but of course I forgot to take my own pictures. We shared the lobster toast (small), the carpaccio, crab rangoon, and the dumplings. I think the best item was the dumplings tbh. I was definitely full but still felt like it was somewhat overpriced. A group of 7 in this beautiful restaurant were only wishing we could eat more. From walking in and seeing the beautifully curated moss wall and ambient lighting really set the tone for what we were about to enjoy. The beverage program was fantastic. My husband and I ordered a variety of tastes. They didn't not disappoint. The lobster shooters ($1 of those even goes to charity) were a hit! Along with that, the oysters, lamb chops, deviled eggs and the crab Rangoon. All of which we could have had more if we had the room in our tummies. We were greeted with a rose upon entry, which was such a thoughtful and nice touch. But I have to say, having the ability to try so many dishes on a menu is slowly growing on me. We started with drinks first. Because it was Valentine's Day, I went ahead and ordered a very "Valentine's Day-ish" drink that consisted of a rose (not to be mistaken with "rosé) champagne drink. It tasted like champagne with a bit of grenadine, but it was actually good. It wasn't too sweet despite its rose color. We moved on to our first selection, the lobster shooter. This was so good and I honestly could've had two more of these. The lobster was perfect and the shooter was made out of a lobster bisque--you can never go wrong with lobster bisque. We then ordered the crab Rangoon, lobster toast, cabbage gratin and the endive-n-goat cheese. All were spectacular. However, the endive-n-goat cheese was interesting. The food was really special. The watermelon / tuna was surprising and refreshing and just delicious. The short rib dumplings were perfect. The cabbage was also really unique and just good! Decided to check this place out after hearing great things, and I must say it was a vibe. The menu is tapas style, and we decided to try the scallops, crab rangoon and tempura oyster mushrooms. The scallops are not on the regular menu, but they were so good, probably my favorite dish. Next, the crab rangoon was good, however it was a little sweet, so three is more than enough. Lastly, the oysters mushrooms were not great because it was so salty, we ended up sending them back, our waiter apologized, and we just ordered another crab rangoon (hence why I said you only need three.) Over all the experience was great, and I will definitely come back! Oh FYI watch the parking lot on the left side of the restaurant because when you are coming in and leaving out the dip is really deep, and you might mess your car up if you are not paying attention!! read more

Para was an interesting experience. I had heard good things but when we arrived, we were some of the only ones there, 7:00 pm on a Friday night. I was further surprised when the food and drinks came out. I had the Para Agua which was a great, really nicely balanced drink and we split the broccoli and Korean Carbonara. The broccoli was next level and the Carbonara was also very good. Our server was nice as well, it was just strange to see this restaurant so empty. All of the seafood dishes we had were very fishy tasting (we're from Charleston and you could really tell it wasn't the freshest seafood.) The parking is really limited (street parking or small lot next to restaurant) given it is in the heart of South End so I would suggest ubering or plan accordingly if you are driving and have a reservation. The food and service are also subpar. We tried to order a bottle of champagne and they were out. Tried to order a bottle of Cabernet and they were also out. Ended up with dirty/filthy martinis and they definitely load you up on the vodka but the house made olive juice has little to no flavor. It also took our drinks to arrive a food 20 minutes AFTER our first round of food came out. We ordered the lobster shooters, crab Rangoon, short rib dumplings, tuna crudo, sashimi, and the tempura. Lobster shooter: came out cold and the lobster was tough. If the soup was warm it would be a fantastic idea. Good portion size. Crab Rangoon: crab was fishy and the Rangoon was doughy. Looked more like a Chinese boa. Short rib dumping: basically a meatball drenched in dumping sauce. Little to no dumpling skin Tuna crudo: it is actually watermelon and this was the best thing that we ordered. It is light and refreshing. Sashimi: very fishy. Better off going to oku as they have the same dish. Tempura: 2nd best thing we ordered but it was extremely fried like a fried chicken batter rather than tempura. It was very greasy but the broccoli slaw it was placed on had a lot of flavor. The portions are pretty good for the price but it's irrelevant if the food doesn't match up. If they can get it together as they are fairly new still then this restaurant can really thrive and it's a great atmosphere although if is really small inside. We had a reservation for a weeknight at 7:30. We waited 15 minutes for water, 20 for a server and 35 for a cocktail. When we asked for a manager and he approached the table, he seemed offended before we had even opened our mouths. He didn't offer an apology, a free appetizer, anything. He didn't try to smooth it over, he didn't ask what he could do to make it right. He didn't even offer to comp our drinks. We found out that was happening from the server when we asked for our bill, so at least he did that. Unfortunately too little, too late. Horrible customer service. I've lived in Charlotte for a long time now & this honestly was one of the best experiences I've ever had in Charlotte so far. The ambiance is so relaxing and beautiful. We were celebrating our anniversary and they brought over 2 glasses of the most delicious champagne, all of the small plates were decorated so artistically unique with love. And even though they were smaller portions it was the perfect amount & very refreshing. We ordered the lobster shooter, crab Rangoons (they aren't your traditional crab rangoons just FYI but still super delicious! They reminded me of mini crab cakes) the "tuna" crudo was actually one of my favorite dishes. It sounds a little weird but tastes just like tuna! The server suggested it and I'm so glad she did. The lamb chops were also spectacular. Overall the ambiance, presentation, quality of the food, customer service was fantastic and really made an impact on my experience. When they brought out our dessert they had a little candle lit in it :) it's all about the small things and they did just that. Very impressed. read more

I don't remember the name of our cocktails - the presentation was awesome but the taste wasn't good. For food - we tried the watermelon ahi (which was good), the crab rangoons, the short rib dumplings, and the trout mousse. The crab rangoons were fried and just didn't have flavor (the sauce served with it was good though). The dumplings were average. The trout mousse was bad - the trout mousse was really, really thick and had no flavor. I really wanted to like this place - it's in a great location and the service was great. Last night my friend and I went to para . Myself not realizing it was restaurant week. Never been to Para before or restaurant week anywhere. We sat at our table the waiter mark c came to table with a attitude from the beginning. We asked if we could order something from the main menu and the restaurant menu. He said no they want you to choose one or the other. With a nasty attitude. It's not what he said it was how he said it. The water came and had particles floating around in it. I asked for A straw he never gave it to me . I had to ask another waitress for straws. So I wanted to get something off the main menu and my friend wanted to get something off the restaurant week menu . He said we could not do that either. I mean if that's how restaurant week is that fine, but it's how you talk to people That's the problem. The food came. The first course was good the second course However, my friend did not like her Salmon. The salmon was not seasoned and it was dry so he came back to the table and she said the salmon was not good. He offered to switch it out for something else, so she chose the ravioli. The ravioli was delicious. The desserts came my dessert, was not good. It was the strawberry gelatin with a chocolate strawberry on top, her dessert was good. She got the sponge cake with the sorbet and cream cheese drizzle. I did not ask for a different dessert because I didn't want to ruffle his feathers because he was already pissed about what ever so I told my friend let it go. I got the bill the table we sat at was in the back right beside the register so I handed him my card without even seeing the bill the bill was $193.80. There was a spot on the bill where he had -$20 and then added the $20 so we wanted to know what the -$20 was for because the bill was confusing and also a $33.50 gratuity was added. So we asked another waitress about the bill and she said she would go get a manager instead of the manager coming he came to the table telling us the $20 was minus because she did not eat the salmon and the $20 was added because she got the ravioli instead. What do you think you're going to eat for free he said. I looked at him and said no we didn't expect to eat for free. We're just trying to ask you a question because the bill is confusing. He walked away so I asked another waitress to speak to a manager and the girl said she would get the manager, but the manager did not come back. The other girl came back . We explained the situation and she was very kind. And I told him I was not giving g him a a 33.50 tip to be talked to in that manner. He has been rude from the being but we ignored it. Once we paid the bill his true colors came out. She took the tip off which it should have been. I don't mind paying for good service but I did not receive any. I never saw a manager. Also when he brought out the utensils for dessert he put my friends spoon and knife directly on the bare table and not a napkin. I will never go back there. Food was disappointing Service was horrible and they drinks tastes like medicine very sweet if you a diabetic . If you have high blood pressure don't order the oyster, they serve it on a bed of salt. The Ambiance is nice that's about it. They bring out some complimentary cucumber tapa which they say it's for the pallet which had no flavor. This place is Very over rated. I also had crab Rangoon brioche. I didn't taste any crab. All it is gooey cheese in a lil bun. The dipping sauce was the only thing that was good. I was disappointed with the first 2 things. I closed out my tab. So I had my credit card on the table and I requested the bill, the waitress took my card and charged and bought me the bill afterwards to sign. They charged me for a drink that I said I was not drinking. This place is just unprofessional no management came over to see what my issue was .It was also empty inside. Waitress wasn't very knowledgeable.I won't be returning. Eat there at your own risk. Valet parking is available for free and then there is street parking.
