PARA falsely advertised their $40 Queen's Feast. Two of us ordered it ($80) plus a $5 upcharge, so it should've been $85, but we were charged $91 instead. The bartender tried to say the extra was gratuity, which wasn't true. They charge per item instead of a flat $40 per person like the menu implies, and they don't disclose that. Para was once one of my favorite places in Charlotte to go. I introduced my friends to it and Wednesday R&B night was always a great time. Great food and music and drinks. However I will not be returning. The last TWO times I was there it felt more like a club than a restaurant. I was groped once by a drunk man and when I called security nothing was done he then proceeded to curse me out and harass me until I left. Last Wednesday another drunk man cursed me out in my face because I asked him not to lean on me at the bar he threw money in my face and berated me for about 5-10 mins straight. Screaming in my face and calling me names. The bar tender saw and did nothing but say dont curse at her. No manager was called no security so again I had to close my check and leave because he wouldn't stop and I was afraid he would attack me. I am so disappointed in how these situations were mishandled & unfortunately I no longer feel safe attending this place specifically on a Wednesday night. read more

Visited this restaurant for the first time last night for a friend's birthday dinner and felt pretty pleased with our experience overall. We had reservations but had a few people show up late and felt our waitress was extremely patient and accommodating to us despite that! She was knowledgeable about any questions we had about the menu and was very sweet! The restaurant initially had an intimate, chic vibe which I really liked but around 8pm or so this changed and it seemed more like a lounge. I personally didn't enjoy the atmosphere change as the music was really loud, making it hard to talk to anyone and I don't like hookah or any smoke around me while eating. I did enjoy my pasta dish however, and I think everyone else liked their food as well! Starting with the ambience, I'd have to give them a 4 out of 5. The dim lighting and atmosphere makes for a romantic date night. The food Id rate a 4.5 out of 5. I had the spicy rigatoni (similar to penne vodka) which was really good. Drinks I'd rate a 3.5 out of 5. As far as customer service I'd rate them at a 3. The downside was when my friend made a mistake and spilled a glass on his pasta. My friend had a piece of lamb chop from another person at the table. We asked the manager JAMES, if we could get another pasta made/another lamb chop. JAMES came over to our table and rudely stated that he would not be getting us another lamb chop. it wasn't what he said but how he said it. Let me just start off by saying this restaurant has an amazing ambiance. The DJ had the music going and he was on point the entire night, the dimmly lit tables, perfect. When we arrived, the hostess was pleasant and sat us down right away (we had reservations.) Our server arrived 7 minutes later with waters and said he would be back. He took another 10 minutes to come back for our drink orders. I got a Dusse side car, my friend got an old fashioned. The drinks were amazing! We weren't feeling too hungry so we got light shareables, the fried calamari, and short rib dumplings. Both amazing, 10/10. Our waiter, however, seemed frazzled and overwhelmed the entire night. He was very forgetful and as we were sat on the outside patio we just didn't understand why he was bouncing between inside and outside. Just to set the scene a bit, our drinks and appetizers came at the same time. He was nice but the service was very slow and believe we would've enjoyed the night a lot more if he was more active. The hookah girl was very sweet as well and quick, but the hookah was overstuffed so the flavor seeped into the water as we gradually smoked. Mixologist Richard made this such a memorable visit. From cocktail recommendations to photo taking and just overall making sure we had a great time! We ordered calamari as a starter and it was delicious. I love when peppers are friend with the calamari, gives it such nice flavor. They were perfectly crispy too. I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon for my entree and that was very tasty too. The vibes in here are super chill. It's a perfect spot for a date night or girls night. Tried PARA during Queens Fest (restaurant week). Definitely recommend reservations. We sat inside but they do have a large outside covered patio. Service was good and food needed no notes. A bit expensive and next time would try an entree or just stick to the drinks. Waitress was very friendly. One thing we didn't realize that they added tip to our bill already which they did not share but I asked because she had the credit card reader at the table for us to pay and the options for tip were just a few bucks... so I asked then was informed. Odd for there to already be a tip... at what percentage? Didn't see the line items on the bill. My only issue is staff communication between the waiter and hostess. They don't seem to be on the same page when it comes to seating.. My waitress (who was great. She was nice and attentive) told me I could stay but gave me a heads up another table is booked for the next time period. She said if they don't show up I could stay longer but if they do I have get up. Understandable. I went ahead and ordered another shot. The Host came over 2 minutes later (Host don't normally come over after being seated but I could be wrong) and said I had to get up because there's another table booked. I asked was the table here and she said no. I told her what the waitress said and she didn't care. The waitress came over and told her the same thing but again... didn't care and I had to get up.. I stayed another 15/20 minutes or so by the bar and as I'm sure you can guess... the table never showed up.. let the waitress do their job and handle the table. Host, stay at the booth. i will def not be returning to this spot. I recently had a reservation for 630 on a Wednesday and got there at 615. I asked if we could be seated since the place was empty, it was one other couple aside from me and my friend there. The manager James Robinson sat us and we began to order food and drinks. the waitress than asked us if we wanted to order a hookah so we said yes. A few minutes later Mr. Robinson approached us and told us that he would need to cancel our hookah order because we exceeded the reservation time slot. Remind you there were empty tables all around us and we were still sipping on our drinks. There was no one waiting in line to be seated. we asked for the check but then the hostess and waitress came back and said miss you guys can stay we had a few cancellations and you guys can order the hookah so we agreed. A few minutes later the waitress comes back and her exact words were "miss I'm so sorry I don't know what's going on but my manager said you guys can't order it and I have to give you the bill." She kept apologizing and saying she didn't understand what was going on. At this point I was beyond upset and just paid the bill. Overall I really enjoy this place. I have it 4 stars because the service is iffy. I do REALLY enjoy the food. But waiting 25 to order another drink is not great. Cute little spot in South End! Tucked back a bit from the rail trail, but an easy walk closest to East/West station. We stopped in for drinks after dinner on a Friday. It wasn't particularly busy, many tables occupied but definitely seats available. I think they prefer you make a reservation, so we were not able to sit on the patio. The bar was nice though! I chose the caffe Reggio Emilia, which was delicious! It was also very creative, being topped with cheese. Don't knock it til you try it! Service was solid, our bartender was friendly and helpful with our questions. Parking may be a challenge, as there are lots around but they will fill up. Typical of south end. It's a little pricey, but definitely a great vibe and worth the splurge on occasion! We will be back! read more

Wish I could do 3.5 stars. Love the NYC/LA vibe of Para. The black, white & gold tiles are the bomb. It's really dark so a touch more lighting would be great. Our server was fantastic and made sure those dinky glasses for water were continually filled. Now the meal - really enjoyed the watermelon poke w/not sure what the little "feta" balls were. Shrimp rolls talk about a small plate. Mostly bread not much shrimp. The lamb meatballs were tasty. If you're looking for a little spice the lamb meatballs have that kick. It's subtle but getting 3/4 the way thru definitely put them aside for dessert. The grits the meatballs came w/need a little TLC. I encountered instead of smooth creamy grits really lumpy and in some cases really chunky. A bit skeptical of the Wagyu. It's American w/no grade on the menu. Tasted like run of the mill NY Strip. Not anything I needed to pay extra for. Maybe it was for restaurant week but the entree portions were definitely entree sized and not small plate. Dessert was the really rich ice cream scope of chocolate cheesecake. It was divine. Now the not so great - unisex restaurants w/area mats down and it smelled like a porta potty. Oh goodness, where to start...My best friends and I made a reservation here earlier in the day for 8:15pm. When we arrived there was someone ahead of us who was waiting to be seated as well. She stated that she had been standing and waiting for someone to greet her and to be seated for over 10 minutes. She also stated that the manager walked by multiple times and neither greeted nor helped her. I finally flagged down a waitress for assistance and she stopped to help the women in front of me and our group, based off that I could tell they were very much understaffed which was surprising because it was a Saturday night. Once seated we all order the Love Flight (SUPER nasty please don't order), cocktails, and food. Now our waitress whose name i forgot but it started with an "N" was super nice and friendly she was the only great thing that night. Our food came out first and threw us off because they are supposed to come out after drinks. The drinks took FOREVER to get to us even though we could see them at the bar just sitting there which was annoying because they weren't as cold when they got to us and one of my friend's drinks was never made. The food is the only reason they get 2 stars, it was very delicious and came out at a good time for us and other tables that were able to be serviced. Now my friend's salmon was very undercooked, and she asked for it to be cooked more and it took a long time for that too. But in the end, she still enjoyed the salmon salad. When eating and finally able to get our drinks, i noticed the line at the hostess table was getting ridiculously long because again no one was up there to help. Finally, the manager Andrew (the same one who walked past the lady ahead of us) helped out and started seating the people in the line. But now the issue with that is he was seating people, but they weren't being serviced due to short staff. I saw them get food but no drinks which is good because the drinks at the bar take forever. One table of 4 walked out after sitting there with no service for 30 minutes. I was nosey and asked and they said they are never coming back. Another table of 6 asked for the same manager to come over because there was something in their pasta and showed it to him, again i was nosey. I don't expect to ever be back to PARA because of the numerous issues. It is very disappointing because they are all over social media like Tik ToK and IG with great reviews but in person does not live up to the hype at all! read more

Not only was the food such a great experience, but our group sat at the bar and the service was just fun the whole way through. Location: stunning part of town, the location has outdoor seating which was super popular. Inside is just as gorgeous. Dark and sexy mood but not too dark where you can't enjoy the company Food: easily one of the best dining experiences I've had. The flavors of each dish was unique and we ordered enough to sample everything. Personal favorites were the hot poppers (not sure what the actual name is), lobster bisque (has a spicy kick to it), cauliflower, and the shrimp special. There was not a single plate we sent back empty. So good and surprisingly filling. Really enjoyed the drink options -- friends had alcoholic drinks. I chose this place to pre-celebrate our V-Day dinner last night... First of all, the place had a VERY dark ambiance...almost black. The place was quite small/compact...but their mirror really helped in making the place feel a bit bigger. Still, for some reason, I wasn't too impressed with their decor. The overhead music wasn't my fave either...but at least they had one! Still, the place definitely had a city vibe...which I appreciated. One more negative...all the tables were squeezed in together, making it not-so-comfy. Plus, the tables were too small. Again, I don't understand how a place like this that specialize in small plates can have such small tables. It just doesn't make sense to me. Because of the tiny tables, they could only bring out a few plates at a time. It's probably just my pet peeves, but I just don't like tiny tables...or claustrophobic dining environments. Now the good part...the FOOD!! We ordered about 8 small plates to share. Our favorites were the Lobster Shooters and the Short Rib Dumplings, but also really liked the unusual Crab Rangoon and Lobster Toast. Korean Street Corn was good, but nothing to write home about (and overpriced for what it was)...and the Tempura wasn't what we expected (but then, we didn't read the print in detail lol). This Tempura (Fried Pepper) dish really grew on us though. We also shared their Chocolate Creme Brulee for dessert...and as expected, quite yummy! BTW, they even offered this cute complimentary appetizer...quite tasty and unusual! Overall, I loved the foods here. So innovative and eclectic (global fusion?)... plus, nicely presented as well, some that can be described as "food art". The drinks were a bit underwhelming. I tried this "Blue Moon", supposedly one of their more colorful, fancy drinks...and it wasn't really all that...in both taste or presentation. Lastly, the service here was excellent. Our waitress was Gabby, and she was not only friendly and attentive, but great at explaining all the drinks in detail. If based on the foods and the service, I would gladly give this place 5 stars. However, I just didn't love the small table, and the super-tight seating situation. Plus the super-black ambiance with Blaaah overhead music didn't help. Really enjoyed our evening at Para! I was a little nervous based on the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. I will agree that it's pricey for what you're getting, but we knew that going in which helped. My favorite part was how creative the menu was. Examples... an espresso martini with Parmesan cheese in it, a whiskey sour with sesame oil, Korean pasta carbonara, etc. For drinks, I ordered the Paul Wall and loved it. You don't often see tequila and egg white together, but it was great. For food, we ordered the short rib dumplings, spicy salmon, broccoli, and kimchi carbonara. They also brought us a complimentary watermelon wonton dish which was delicious. My 2 favorites were the broccoli and carbonara. The only dish I wouldn't order again is the short rib dumplings. A girl friend & I went to Para last night for restaurant week. Ambiance, service, food, drinks all hit the mark. It's so cozy & intimate in the resturant. Our server was very kind & knowledgable of the menu and prompt with the service. I got the Caesar salad for first course & salmon with brussel sprouts and mash potatoes for entree - delicious and the the portion size was perfect even with the Caesar salad.. I am eating leftovers as I type this. Drinks were good! A little on the pricier side $15-18 but well made. The 20 percent gratuity automatically added to the bill per person is a little odd- as you expect that with large parties but I would've tipped 20 percent regardless because we did have a great server. I really enjoyed this place! I was visiting a friend in Charlotte, and this place was what she recommended we go to and get some food. We went around 10pm or 11pm, and the music was very very loud, but honestly we did not mind at all because we were really enjoying it. Also, we sat outside on the patio, so it wasn't as loud out there. Our server was great at giving recommendations for drinks and food. I asked if they had non-alcoholic cocktails, and she recommended an amazing strawberry one. I ordered the caesar salad with salmon and it was so good. They have great salmon - I would recommend it. I like to give new spots a couple months before I visit them so they have time to work out the kinks first. It took us a bit to make it here. My husband and I went with another couple and we shared: - Jax'd Up - Spice Girl - Lobster Shooter - Crab "Rangoon" - Korean Street Corn - Short Rib Dumplings - Lobster Toast - Gnudi My favorite thing, hands down, was the Crab Rangoon. It's not a normal Crab Rangoon, but it was absolutely delicious. I also enjoyed the Korean Street Corn. The rest was good, but nothing stood out. My biggest issue with all of it, was that nothing was warm. It seemed to all come out right when it was ready, so it's weird to me that it was borderline cold.
