A nice Oregon stop just over the California Oregon border. Great prices, the restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was decorated with antiques and nostalgic signs. We ordered the Patty melt with local Klamath Falls fried potatoes wedges and a Chicken Swiss cheese also with the potato wedges Both were very good. Makes a nice spot to stop before you enter California and have to pay the high sales tax. read more

I really enjoy this restaurant. Good food every time. There aren't many places to eat in the surrounding area so Pappy Gander is appreciated. There's even a small area for gambling in the back. I really enjoy the decor and old timey feel this place gives off. Little mom and pop type. We were even given these homemade zucchini muffins to go with our meal. read more

When going through Merrill OR stop in at this Most Wonderful dining establishment. The decor is full of super fun character to keep you entertained. We had the amazing honor of being served by Becky the owner and she is a real sweetheart. Helpful, kind and professional. The food is amazing and fresh. We stopped in on our way home to Seattle from Reno. This place is adorable! The menu offers something for everyone and most dishes are made from scratch. We all had breakfast - eggs over easy, polish sausage, and a Denver omelette. Delicious! Our server was also our cook and her home town charm and humor sealed our love of the place. Our coffee cups were never empty. We'll be back on our next trip down Highway 39! Next time, we want to try the cobblers! read more

We happened to go by this spot and were way past being ready for lunch. I was hesitant because one of the reviews was not so good, and there were not many customers inside. We decided to take a chance and we were glad we did. The staff was very friendly and courteous and we just happened to stop in when things were quiet. The food was fabulous and there was plenty of it. And then there was the decor. Lots of stuffed animals and animal type decor to be seen, which we got a kick out of. We highly recommend eating at Pappy Gander's. Yum! read more

It is A-OK. I stopped because I saw the Man on the wall. Looked up the reviews and gave it a shot. The wifi is pretty slow, unfortunately. The food was good, but the portion size of a whole order of French Toast seemed a bit small. The cook delivered it himself. It was super tasty, too. If I was still hungry, I'd order more just because it was cooked to perfection. The service was mediocre and not quite friendly... not rude but not personable whatsoever. My needs were met and I feel it is a strong three stars. Can't quite say, "Yay, I'm a fan." I doubt I'd stop here again. If you're looking for some good home cooking and you don't need high speed internet, you're experience is likely to be a good one overall. The waterfowl theme of decor is cute. read more

Do yourself and your wallet a favor and drive the extra few miles to Malin and enjoy a great meal at the Malin Diner! I have lived in the area now for 5 years and have given this establishment a good honest go on maybe 4 different occasions, and vowed today ...never ever to go back!! Food was barely edible for all 4 of us that ordered. Way too expensive for the quality. Left a negative lasting impression. Don't be lured in by the claims of "new management" it's cheap and dishonest marketing schemes...same crew, same nasty food. read more

Last visited here twenty years ago and it was great, so we were excited to get back again. Major disappointment. The wait for our food seemed endless, The burgers seemed to be a bit small for 1/3 lb patties, the fries were rather feckless, pretty much what you would expect at Denny's but at artisan prices. I ordered a patty melt. I expected caramelized onions served on a meat patty with cheese and either sourdough or rye bread. What I got was served on something referred to as "Texas Toast"and the onions were raw. When I complained, I was told that was "just how they made them". Hmmm. Walking by the kitchen, cleanliness was questionable, and our table was sticky. Better dining a few minutes up the road in K Falls. We'll never stop in again. read more

Stopped in Merrill, OR with our RV for the evening. Googled restaurants in town and Pappy Gander came up in #1. Not sure what the person who wrote a review back in January, giving them one star, was expecting, but our bacon cheeseburger and tuna melt, both with home fries were very good. Fast, friendly service. Prices were very reasonable. read more

Went here on a business lunch and had breakfast for lunch. Service was fairly quick and the Ham and Cheese Omelet was great as was the Home Style Potatoes- WOWSER! Toast was good and old-school. Coffee was weak (I'm used to Jet Fuel). I hear this place has changed hands over the years and this current owner is really making a go of it. It was definitely worth the drive from Tulelake and all three of us were in agreement about the quality of food served. Hey, for Merrill, Oregon, this place ain't too bad! Did I tell you, get the home style potatoes! read more

Pappy Gander - Wildlife / hunting theme - Burgers Near Me - Merrill, Oregon

Stopped by for dinner with three friends for the first time. Ordered the famous chicken fried steak. Obviously microwaved from frozen and then covered with about two pounds of bland lukewarm gravy. Two bites then gag. Actually I didn't gag. The other guys at my table did when I braved a bite. Horrid! Tried to salvage by scraping the gravy off but removing the mask didn't make things prettier. The steaks my friends ordered were third rate quality, but at least hey could manage to forced them down after a long day of hunting. Waitress never checked on us and then apologized when cleaning the table off, but didn't offer options. We agreed that a frozen burrito and six pack from seven-eleven would have been far more satisfying and a lot less expensive. This could be an isolated experience so my review is based upon the poor quality of the food the restaurant buys from its suppliers. You can have the greatest cook and wait staff but when the quality is this poor the customer walks away disappointed. read more

On our way through and found this on Yelp. Decided to give it a try. Waitress was friendly and suggested the chicken fried steak breakfast as one of their best things. Sorry, smelled so good when it was served that I tore into it before thinking of a picture for you all. Meat was good and the breading not overpowering. Gravy was delicious and perfect amount of pepper. Home fries were fresh and cooked extra crispy at my request. Eggs were not overcooked, good yolk flavor to add to gravy taste. Great "hole in the wall" find that will warrant a return trip to try their burgers. Comfort food in casual comfort that should leave you full and pleased! read more

We were in town and hungry - not only did we have the sweetest waitress, but the food was great too! The fries - homemade and YUM!

Found a "Burner"restaurant had to stop! We split a patty melt and fries and OMG! What a great find one of the top cooked tasting burger we've had in a loong time. Oh and the fries were fresh cut fries and cooked perfectly! And in true "Burner" fashion we were gifted an awesome magnet!! read more

Service was fine but the food was blah. Not much flavor and burger did not come with onions or tomatoes, only lettuce and pickle :(

This place was great. The chicken fried steak was crispy and the gravy was creamy and that's all anyone really wants in life. The onion rings are fab and but the smokehouse burger felt like a frozenCostco patty dripping thin bottled bbq sauce. No real complaints though. It's a little dingy and I hope you like country music. The decor is guns and ammo posters and dead animals so vegans beware... but it's charming. It looks like someone covered the chairs with cammo vinyl and the plastic pink and cammo plates are cute. I would totally hit this place up again if passing through. Also, the bathroom was spotless and the toilet paper holder was worth the trip read more

in papy gander, in merrill, oregon, the waitress gave us a list of all the places and the kinds of people she hates, including california, san fran, nyc, l.a., gay, chinese, she may have said some more. later i thought, if her ideal, donald chump came in and ordered a chicken sandwich with no mayonnaise, and she brought it with mayo, like she did mine, for sure he would not have tipped her generously like did, probably would not have tipped her at all, and probably would have renegotiated down the price. read more

Great place to get comfort food at a reasonable price. Quick and friendly service. I don't eat starches and they had no problem subbing cottage cheese for the toast and taters. Always a good sign. Also b'fast served all day. BTW, our server has worked there for 18 years. One of our group of 6 last ate here 16 years ago (retired trucker) and says it is as good as it ever was. read more

This place was recommended by a local and we were not disappointed! Standard cafe, but service and food were great. Mushroom cheese burger was fresh and easily a half pound. Cheese was nice and cheesy, not some processed "wana be" cheese. Lots of home made fries and they had the skin on just as I like 'em! My coworker had the pork sandwich special and there was not a drop left on the plate. read more

Stopped in here on our way to burning man. My omelette and home fries were great.

This place used to be a meeting spot for local ranchers and farmers that surrounded the tiny town of Merrill, Oregon where a person could go get a ton of great food for very little money. It was a rural destination. It had a reputation for being fabulous. Now it's that same group of aging farm folk (and the occasional passerby), and even the same price, but someone walked off with decades of recipes. I assume this place is under new management, with all the new faces behind the counter, and it shows. Sorry if it pisses people off, this is simply my opinion. They were nice enough, but the food didn't deliver on even the most modest of expectations. read more

Don't expect gourmet cuisine, but do enjoy a place that stays true to the country flair, with most things homemade, the only place in the county that knows how to make crispy home fries, pies and cobblers, and even biscuits. Never going to eat there again. Should have known not to eat there when the first sign in read was restrooms for customers only. Would give this place zero stars if I could /knew how. Paid $2 more for an upsized burger which was no bigger than the regular sized one had to eat the fry bits with a fork cause they were too small to eat with my fingers. The onions were old and dry to the point I couldn't cut them with my teeth. Burger was overcooked to the point it was nearly a hockey puck. Never was asked how the meal was. Another couple came in and got normal sized fries... the waitress chatted the other couple up and yes I do live in the area. It'll be a cold day in he double hockey sticks before I'll even entertain the thought of going back there. Edit: The fries also ad a fishy flavor... read more

Holy cow, this was delicious! Our hotel in Klamath Falls screwed us because of the eclipse and deleted our reservation. Thankfully we found a very modest motel in Merrill, so we are at Pappy Ganders by accident. Service was fast and friendly. Juice serving was large. We had the western omelet which had tons of bacon, cheese and other fillings. The hash browns were truly from scratch and dark brown as I love them. Only came here as our men wanted real breakfast, but then I ate a good chunk of my husband's food . Highly recommend, at least for breakfast. read more
