Came to Bend for a concert. After the show, ended up at Papi Chulo's. The barbacoa was juicy and flavorful. The salsa on top has just enough fire to keep your lips burning long after you're finished eating. A solid new option in this part of town. We ordered one of every taco and a couple of burritos with starter of chips and guac. Guac was markedly under-salted (possibly no salt added) and had an extreme amount of onions. No other ingredients were present. My kids gave up on it, and I can't recall that having ever happened before. Tacos were uniformly good, though the salsas are kind of strange. There's what seems to be a green salsa but has a hint of cream to it -- for a minute I wondered if it had artichoke, but don't think so. The red habanero salsa has way too much habanero, not from a spice perspective but it's just very one-note and uninteresting. Burritos are grilled and fairly well constructed but lack basics in them like pico. Overall a very good new entry in Bend's decidedly grim food scene. I'd suggest a salsa bar, pickled carrots and jalapeños available, adding pico to burritos (at least the option) and changing the frankly insane interior evening lighting. read more

Why did I wait so long to try this place?!?!! Everything was SPECTACULAR! When it comes to tacos, I've got a lot of favorites in Bend (and I'm a taco/margarita connoisseur). To be fair, I'll probably continue to keep my business spread among some of my other local fav's, but shhhh, this might be my new #1 (especially for these warm summer evenings, sitting outside, with the dog in tow!). Good experience. Friendly staff. The bees on the patio were insane. We tried Carne de Res, well seasoned meat, decent and would eat again. Cochinita was the star of the 5 tacos, spicy and flavorful. Verduras was okay, but i'd eat a mushroom taco at El Sancho before this again. Poc Chuc was good but didn't stand out. All in all, I would eat here again, but I'm putting El Sancho and Super Burrito ahead of this for taste, service and value. read more

The food is not good here. They have a great location and a lot of support from the local free newspaper. There are a lot of people in this town that can make good Latin food. They need to hire these people and change their menu or they will be gone. read more

This place is one of our "go-to" places to take friends from out of town. The food is fantastic, and the service is warm and friendly. I was so excited to have a new taco shop opening in the area. Finally they opened. But unfortunately the burrito bowl with carne asada was not that great. I don't want to leave a bad review so I'm still giving it 4 stars. Almost every bite was full of fat. I'm hoping they can get some different meat asap that's not loaded with fatty pieces. The overall taste of it was good but gotta get leaner meat ! I'll try again in a week hoping that changes. read more

Very middle of the road Mexican food. Love the name, the vibe and the service but the food was sorely lacking. From what I gather this is a franchise off of the OG in Portland, so not surprising that it's not primo fresh food (most chains lack quality no matter the size). I got the fish and pork tacos and my wife had the Fresca bowl. The fish taco came without any kind of slaw or cabbage which made it miss for me, gotta have that crunch to balance the bite. The "slow cooked pork" was tough as hell, nothing about it said slow cooked. Overall I've had better tacos from the back of a Suburban in LA. Wife bowl was lacking so much so that she only had two bites. Lacked substance and overdressed with oil. I hate to leave such a poor review but with so much opportunity at a killer location it's gotta be said. Hopefully they can make some stark adjustments quickly and capitalize on Bends food scene. read more

I love the flavor of their tacos here - but it's quite small like street tacos size. Fish taco - great. Shrimp taco- great. Chorizo taco - great. The tortilla is great though like home made status. They've only been opened a couple months but certain stuff their missing like a warmer for their chips so chips comes out cold - salsa isn't great at all- they only use shredded cheese so if you ask for nachos they can't really give u cheese they said it'll be difficult to have to melt shredded cheese in the microwave. A little more ironing of the menu and training of staff this could be a great spot..location is awesome too so I'm hopeful and will be back. read more

Everything tasted good. Fresh tortilla crispy out of the oven. Pico de gallo was very good. I got the seven dollar bean burrito which I ordered pinto beans and I got black beans. There wasn't any sour cream on my burrito as well. All in all pretty good taco shop. read more

Papi Chulo's is officially my new favorite Mexican spot in town. Walking in makes you feel like you are not in Bend anymore and transported to Jalisco Mexico. You get teased with smells as you wait to order and then the food comes out super quick which is awesome. So far I've tried almost everything, and shockingly enough the Verduras (Veggie) Tacos, Quesabirria Quesadilla and Steak Burrito are my favorites. Another rad perk is they offer Breakfast Burritos all day, which I find myself always in the mood for a breakfast burrito. I can't wait for their OLCC permit to come in so I can try out their margaritas! For now, you can order Papi Chulo's over at River Pig and drink at their bar if you are 21+, so they figured out a good work around for now! read more

Honestly so gross.. I've tried just about all the taco joints in bend. But this has to be the worst. Nothing wrong with the ambiance or service but the food was so gross. As soon as he brought the food to the table the first thing I smelled , you won't ever guess this, cat piss. I made my bf smell it to see if I'm crazy or not but I wasn't. What I ordered, 1 Baja Fish, 1 Polo and 1 Carne and some chips and guac. I'll start by saying the interior was playful and had a fun vibe, and the staff were friendly, now onto the food. It was honestly pretty disappointing. While the filling was generous the whole thing was pretty soggy. I couldn't even pick up the taco without things disintegrating, so I went for a fork instead, not what I want from a good taco. Fish taco...not crispy, Carne...huge junks, some a bit charred, Pollo...had the best flavor but nothing special. So wanted to love Papi's, not sure I'll head back... read more
