Papi Chulos's is a colorful mexican restaurant with a cool atmosphere. You order at the countertop and take a number, and then they bring it out to you. The burrito bowl and chips / guac / pico were good. I really liked their green and red sauce that came with. Super flavorful with good spice. Food and drinks came quickly, and the staff came in to check on us a couple of times. Everything else is self-service. There wasn't anything super special/standout about our experience there, but it was a good meal.

Food: 5 Stars for the veggie tacos. Very flavorful. 2 Stars for the veggie nachos because it was too basic and need more beans in them as meat substitute. Drinks: All beers are either in can or bottle. The cashier said, the only thing on "tap" was the margaritas. Service: The cashier was also the server and she was super friendly. Ambiance: The decor looked fun and colorful. Outdoor Seating: Available with a few umbrellas available. Parking: Street parking on Arizona or nearby streets or at the Box Factory parking lot.

Hands down best tacos I've had in Bend! So delicious and lots of options. So much flavor and salsa was slightly hot. I also enjoyed a churro was heavenly. Very cute ambiance that feels like you are in Mexico, or San Diego. Very colorful with plenty of seating both inside and outside on the patio. I will absolutely be back!

Brought my mom here for her 89th birthday dinner and it was superb! Lovely ambience, fast and friendly service. Margaritas were tasty, steak quesadilla was delicious and flavorful with green chiles in it. The steak burrito was amazing as well. Talking to folks at the next table, apparently the Birria Burrito is phenomenal as well. Will have to come back to try that.

Excellent breakfast burrito! This coming from someone who orders many. They grill the tortilla and brush it with the juices of something, probably the birriera. Speaking of which, the Birriera Quesadilla is a must order! No health or cost of living fee and they bring your order to you: this sure ain't Portland. Great spot for outside dining. A very long wait though. The female cashier and server was friendly.

I remarked recently that not long ago, I had never heard of birria. Now it's everywhere. Apparently it's not a nationwide phenomenon, more a local one. I don't know. Anyway, here we have another new taco shop in town, this one also offering, among more standards items, birria tacos, burrito and a quesadilla, which I opted for. - QuesaBirria: a fairly large quesadilla cut into quarters and served with the usual tub of dipping sauce (au jus). Pretty tasty. - Side of pinto beans: I like beans with my Mexican food and Papi Chulo's are solid although maybe not the tastiest in town. Prices are reasonable, service is quick. I don't know it for a fact but I believe Papi Chulo's is affiliated with River Pig Saloon, which is next door at the Box Factory. Same owner and kitchen talent anyway. As with the other establishments in this row of the Box Factory, along with some inside seating, there's a nice patio area. Liquor license pending (so maybe the River Pig affiliation is the way to go there).

I've been excited to try this place since they announced they were opening a location in Bend. I'd like to give it a 3.5, but considering they've been open only 1 week, I'll give then the benefit of the doubt that they will continue to improve on what was already a pretty good experience. The space has a great vibe, laid-back and airy. The staff was great and the food came out quickly. Impressive considering how busy they were. I ordered the Birria burrito. The burrito was loaded with meat and cheese with a nice amount of onions and cilantro. The broth was pretty good, although I could have used a little more intensity or depth of flavor. Overall, the burrito dipped in the broth made for a great bite. Other than the broth, my only complaint is that the burrito could have benefited from a little more time on the griddle to crisp it up and maybe give it a little color. By the end of each half, the bottom just kind of fell apart. It's bound to happen with all that juicy beef and the broth I guess. My friends ordered some tacos and were split on their reviews, but iverall fairly positive. They appeared to be typical street taco size, so I imagine it would take 3-4 to be a full meal. Again, for being open only a week, there were a lot of positives and I look forward to going again and trying some of the other items on the menu, although it's going to be hard not to order the Birria burrito or tacos!

Ummmm..... $5 per fish taco for this?? They should state clearly on their website that they are tiny tiny street tacos. Nowhere does it say that. This was an expensive 4 bites of food. Also, if didn't even come with all the toppings they stated (no coleslaw--kind of a key ingredient to Baja fish tacos). Tasty though ;) read more

Came to Bend for a concert. After the show, ended up at Papi Chulo's. The barbacoa was juicy and flavorful. The salsa on top has just enough fire to keep your lips burning long after you're finished eating. Fast and friendly service, good prices, a beautiful and laid-back ambiance; I'm so glad I found out about this place. Next time in Bend, I'll definitely be back! read more

A solid new option in this part of town. We ordered one of every taco and a couple of burritos with starter of chips and guac. Guac was markedly under-salted (possibly no salt added) and had an extreme amount of onions. No other ingredients were present. My kids gave up on it, and I can't recall that having ever happened before. Tacos were uniformly good, though the salsas are kind of strange. There's what seems to be a green salsa but has a hint of cream to it -- for a minute I wondered if it had artichoke, but don't think so. The red habanero salsa has way too much habanero, not from a spice perspective but it's just very one-note and uninteresting. Burritos are grilled and fairly well constructed but lack basics in them like pico. Overall a very good new entry in Bend's decidedly grim food scene. I'd suggest a salsa bar, pickled carrots and jalapeños available, adding pico to burritos (at least the option) and changing the frankly insane interior evening lighting. read more

Why did I wait so long to try this place?!?!! Everything was SPECTACULAR! When it comes to tacos, I've got a lot of favorites in Bend (and I'm a taco/margarita connoisseur). To be fair, I'll probably continue to keep my business spread among some of my other local fav's, but shhhh, this might be my new #1 (especially for these warm summer evenings, sitting outside, with the dog in tow!). And if your gang wants to post up at the Podski, just order to go and walk it across the street if you have to. read more

The food is not good here. They have a great location and a lot of support from the local free newspaper. There are a lot of people in this town that can make good Latin food. They need to hire these people and change their menu or they will be gone. read more

Good experience. Friendly staff. The bees on the patio were insane. We tried Carne de Res, well seasoned meat, decent and would eat again. Cochinita was the star of the 5 tacos, spicy and flavorful. Verduras was okay, but i'd eat a mushroom taco at El Sancho before this again. Poc Chuc was good but didn't stand out. All in all, I would eat here again, but I'm putting El Sancho and Super Burrito ahead of this for taste, service and value. read more

This place is one of our "go-to" places to take friends from out of town. The food is fantastic, and the service is warm and friendly. We usually get our food quick and leave happy and full of delicious food. The prices are very fair and the quality is genuine. I'd highly recommend stopping in if you haven't yet! read more

I was so excited to have a new taco shop opening in the area. Finally they opened. But unfortunately the burrito bowl with carne asada was not that great. I don't want to leave a bad review so I'm still giving it 4 stars. Almost every bite was full of fat. I'm hoping they can get some different meat asap that's not loaded with fatty pieces. The overall taste of it was good but gotta get leaner meat ! I'll try again in a week hoping that changes. read more

Very middle of the road Mexican food. Love the name, the vibe and the service but the food was sorely lacking. From what I gather this is a franchise off of the OG in Portland, so not surprising that it's not primo fresh food (most chains lack quality no matter the size). I got the fish and pork tacos and my wife had the Fresca bowl. The fish taco came without any kind of slaw or cabbage which made it miss for me, gotta have that crunch to balance the bite. The "slow cooked pork" was tough as hell, nothing about it said slow cooked. Overall I've had better tacos from the back of a Suburban in LA. Wife bowl was lacking so much so that she only had two bites. Lacked substance and overdressed with oil. I hate to leave such a poor review but with so much opportunity at a killer location it's gotta be said. Hopefully they can make some stark adjustments quickly and capitalize on Bends food scene. read more

I love the flavor of their tacos here - but it's quite small like street tacos size. Fish taco - great. Shrimp taco- great. Chorizo taco - great. The tortilla is great though like home made status. They've only been opened a couple months but certain stuff their missing like a warmer for their chips so chips comes out cold - salsa isn't great at all- they only use shredded cheese so if you ask for nachos they can't really give u cheese they said it'll be difficult to have to melt shredded cheese in the microwave. A little more ironing of the menu and training of staff this could be a great spot..location is awesome too so I'm hopeful and will be back. read more

Everything tasted good. Fresh tortilla crispy out of the oven. Pico de gallo was very good. I got the seven dollar bean burrito which I ordered pinto beans and I got black beans. There wasn't any sour cream on my burrito as well. All in all pretty good taco shop. read more

Papi Chulo's is officially my new favorite Mexican spot in town. Walking in makes you feel like you are not in Bend anymore and transported to Jalisco Mexico. You get teased with smells as you wait to order and then the food comes out super quick which is awesome. So far I've tried almost everything, and shockingly enough the Verduras (Veggie) Tacos, Quesabirria Quesadilla and Steak Burrito are my favorites. Another rad perk is they offer Breakfast Burritos all day, which I find myself always in the mood for a breakfast burrito. I can't wait for their OLCC permit to come in so I can try out their margaritas! For now, you can order Papi Chulo's over at River Pig and drink at their bar if you are 21+, so they figured out a good work around for now! read more

Honestly so gross.. I've tried just about all the taco joints in bend. But this has to be the worst. Nothing wrong with the ambiance or service but the food was so gross. As soon as he brought the food to the table the first thing I smelled , you won't ever guess this, cat piss. I made my bf smell it to see if I'm crazy or not but I wasn't. Absolutely ruined my appetite. And the tacos were just either greasy, cold or rubbery. Hell no never again. read more

What can I say, I love a good taco! Walked into Papi's for a taco sampler and had pretty high hopes. The atmosphere was good and the menu items looked promising. What I ordered, 1 Baja Fish, 1 Polo and 1 Carne and some chips and guac. I'll start by saying the interior was playful and had a fun vibe, and the staff were friendly, now onto the food. It was honestly pretty disappointing. While the filling was generous the whole thing was pretty soggy. I couldn't even pick up the taco without things disintegrating, so I went for a fork instead, not what I want from a good taco. Fish taco...not crispy, Carne...huge junks, some a bit charred, Pollo...had the best flavor but nothing special. So wanted to love Papi's, not sure I'll head back... read more

The decor is lacking character and the food is mediocre at best. There are multiple better options for good Mexican food here in Bend. The tables were not clean when we arrive and had to request assistance in clearing a spot to eat. The food was only okay... over powered by an over usage of hot sauce and cheap cheese. read more

What is this, a taco shop or an airport runway? Leftover COVID trauma? I don't know, but this building literally burned down and they rebuilt the entire thing from the ground up and STILL brought back this stupid little light system. Commitment to the bit, I guess. Then you go inside, order your food, and they ask where you want to sit like there are options. Buddy, we both know I'm ending up outside on a picnic table fighting wind gusts and temperature swings like I'm on an Oregon Trail reenactment. I hate outdoor seating. Humanity invented buildings for a reason. No bugs. No napkins flying into traffic. No "it's warm... wait now it's cold... wait now the sun is directly attacking my forehead." All you "let's sit outside!" people are completely insane. Now onto the important part: the tacos. Specifically the barbacoa tacos or whatever black magic they're using back there. These things are unbelievable. Fresh, flavorful, messy in the perfect way, and somehow worth every ounce of annoyance this place causes me. The food here is so good the staff can have a little arrogance about it and honestly? They've earned it. Every time I eat here I leave mildly irritated and completely satisfied. Crowded. Loud. Not comfortable. Absolutely phenomenal tacos. Five stars. Best tacos in Bend. Maybe the best tacos anywhere. And yes... I'll be back again and again like an idiot.

Timely, attentive, professional without being stiff. The capstone to our experience involved the bill. We actually had a gift card from 2017 - nine years ago. While it certainly didn't cover the whole bill, or even half, it was a nice way to defray costs. Unfortunately, when the server ran the gift card, it showed no balance. Not sure why but perhaps over the years, the card had been erased by stray EMF. Despite that and given we provided the card receipt, the restaurant honored the card for the full amount anyway.
