If you're shopping for wedding invitations, beware that this branch has an inconsistent policy regarding making appointments. My fiancee called ahead to make sure we could just drop in and take a look through the massive invitation sample books, and the employee said it wouldn't be a problem, that we should stop by and someone would assist us if we had any questions. Upon arriving, we sat down and began flipping through. When we asked for a piece of scrap paper to write down pricing info, we were told that we should have made a reservation and that we would need to leave because someone with reservation was coming in. The only signage that said anything about a reservation was a small tentfold on the table that had tipped over. This is the opposite of what we were told ahead of time, but I'm willing to chalk it up to a mix-up or a new staffer. The fact that we were told to leave, however, was really impolite and unnecessary. We would have been open to scheduling an appointment later in the day, and the store really wasn't terribly busy, so we could have just browsed without being in the way of any other customers. We left and called the Old Town Alexandria branch who told us that no appointment was necessary. We drove over and had a nice hour-long chat with the Alexandria staff about invitation costs. Basically, the Georgetown branch bungled this and instead of making it right decided to ask us to leave. I'd recommend avoiding the store and hitting the Alexandria branch instead, if only for the nicer staff. read more

I just feel sorry for all the trees... but they do have a few eco friendly products so maybe i don't feel that guilty... plus as pretty as some of the stuff looks, it may stick around longer than a month or so. I am SO into this store! I've been to paper goods stores before, yes, but this store offers so much more than just the invitations, stationary and cards. This store takes gift wrapping and gift giving to a whole new level. Not only is ever conceivable color available, but also every conceivable print, style, cut, size - you name it. I even stumbled on a book about scrapbooking with photos and my brain nearly exploded just looking around me, imagining the possibilities. The Japanese papers alone are worth a visit to this store. Of course, you could easily spend a small fortune here - it wouldn't be difficult - but your gifts would be so pretty people would be sad to unwrap them and your cards/invitations would be so delightful that people would want to frame them. This place is a dream if you: 1) Are (or want to be) crafty in the paper arts 2) Don't know an A4 or an A7 from an AK-47 but love buying clever, unique *pre-made* gifts 3) Are planning a party or get-together and want to create unique decorations, invitations, favors, etc. I first got the Paper Source bug when I decided to make my own wedding invitations. I wanted something unique and personalized down to the last detail because... well, because I am a tremendous geek. I doubt I saved much money by going this route, but I did get a much cooler invitation than I could have had mass-manufactured. I've since started making my own birthday cards and thank you notes and other pretty little trifles. I've been to Paper Source stores in Chicago, San Jose, Cambridge, Boston and Georgetown. The Georgetown store is the biggest and most impressive. There are rows and racks and boxes of some of the most beautiful papers I've seen. The textures! The weights! The colors! The shapes and sizes! Ahhhhh. I see that a previous employee posted about the difficulties of keeping items in stock due to customers' unpredictable buying habits. Over the course of my two-month project, I found my local stores were out of a few things I needed on a few different occasions. If you run into this situation, just call the 888 number, which will link you to the warehouse in Chicago. They can overnight items to you (for a fee, of course) so you can still meet whatever self-imposed deadline is looming above you. Even if paper doesn't make you giddy, stop in. Simply browsing the store is a total treat. read more

This is my go to store for every color envelope. However the greeting cards are over priced. When I went to pay cash at the register I was asked for my last name so they could log it in their system. WTF? I said no, I'm paying cash, you don't need to keep a record of who I am. read more

Paper Source has great supplies for scrapbooking. It has three levels of supplies, with a wide range of patterns, designs, crafts, and so on. It also has greeting cards, wrapping paper, and other items. It also offers workshops. If you join its mailing list, it offers great catalogs. This place is a bit like Papyrus; the cards are NOT cheap, but if you are looking for something really special, they will have it... for a price. As a stationary geek, I wish this store had a bit more actual... paper? Notebooks, pens, etc. There's a weirdly large amount of the floor taken over by knickknacks and such. But, as a card snob, I'm still happy to have a high-end place to buy from in Georgetown. read more

The place is well laid-out, staff is friendly, and the store has an overall pleasant feel to it that'll have you wondering where the last 25 minutes minutes went. Wonderful store. They saved my life when I had a gift to present to a VIP which arrived in a badly damaged box. And of course it was an unusually sized box, so I was running all over town trying to find a replacement with no luck. I was ready to try VA when I remembered the Paper Source. They had the perfect sized box and did a lovely job on the gift wrap. They have an extensive and gorgeous assortment of gift wrap. Also stationery, cards, gift bags, ribbons. Writing not only for this store but Paper Source in general. The quality is absolutely fantastic. Ordered both my save the dates and wedding invites through them - both with gold foil. They came out so beautiful and elegant. We received so many complements. I initially discovered them walking through Georgetown. The store in general is expensive but i often receive coupons through email and not to mention with the quality, it's so worth it. This is the best paper store - ever! I made the cutest invitations out of their petal envelopes. My sister is going away to the University of Kansas for college so we did a Wizard of Oz theme. I used the Red Stardust petals and placed a 5 x 5 card inside. The card had a yellow brick road and ruby slippers boarder. This is just one of the many purchases I've made at the store. 4.5 stars. Paper source will bring out the arts & crafts person in you. On the second floor they have a great selection of scrapbook materials and other make-your-own paper crafts and how-to books (paper crowns, paper flowers, etc.) but expect to pay more for your scrapbooking supplies than at, say, Michaels. On the first floor you'll find a great selection of unique cards for any random person in your life for any occasion. Also, they keep up a pretty good selection of sale items near the front of the store, especially after holidays. read more

I totally adore all things arts-and-craft, and Paper Source doesn't disappoint. There are tons of funny/pretty little cards and gifts downstairs and a great selection of papers/stamps/stickers/tools upstairs. It's clearly not the cheapest place to get your jollies, but I have no problem spending a little extra mostly because of the great customer service. The people are super helpful without being pushy. In fact, one of the employees even showed me all of their wedding invitation options - after I told her that I wouldn't be buying them from Paper Source since my fiance will design and print them for us. read more

My fiancee's new favorite place. We had an hour to kill so we thought we walk around Georgetown to window shop, but pretty much the entire hour was spent here. Awesome place to go get ideas for wedding invitations, arts & crafts projects, etc... I am a paper junkie. Often, I buy paper of all different colors just to have it. Usually, I'm working on a crafty project. Either way, the Paper Source is the BEST place to get any crafty supplies, including paper. I'm not gonna lie, it's expensive - but it's quality. They might just have anything you could possibly want for your craft project, and if it's not in the store, buy it from their online store. They also have a nice selection of small, cute things for your desk. Basically, I could hang in the store for hours, just staring at anything and everything. It's a craft/paper junkie's paradise. I just love Paper Source. They have a great selection invitations to journals, but what I love the most is their letterpress cards. I hope they offer more workshops at both Georgetown and Alexandria location - more regular cards or invitations, not just wedding invitations. Back when I was really into book arts, I could easily spend $100 on paper. That seems impossible to justify. Paper Source reminds me of those days with its tempting selection. I wouldn't buy all my wrapping paper or office supplies here, but it's perfect for finding a few pieces that pack a punch. Those Cavallini & Co. papers that cost about $5 a sheet? Frame them. I love this store! They have a great selection of pretty paper and even small packets of 'scrap paper' with good coordinating colors which helped me figure how to start making cards at first. It's is ample and just walking in I get sense of ideas and creativity. I have only been there a few times but sometimes living in south Florida makes me miss this store and DC in general. read more

I love going in to Paper Source because I always feel so inspired. The staff are very nice and helpful and have great ideas. Last year I made hundreds of Paper Source's paper flowers from their magnolia kit for my wedding (to replace any real flowers you would typically use) and got lots of compliments. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and they will special order whatever you want and you can pick it up there without paying for shipping. They make beautiful invitations (if you can afford them, I've seen wedding invite packages that cost more than my first car) so I recommend checking them out, at least for ideas and color schemes. Some of the things are strangely priced (i.e. handmade cards for $7, ceramic pears for $200), but not everything is expensive. They have pre-made invites upstairs if you don't want to spend a lot of time on your cards. They also have lots of kitschy cool stuff, stocking stuffers, toys etc. if you want to grab something fun for a friend. I also love the wrapping paper, I have never had a friend not comment on how much they loved the paper the gift came in. I was hoping this store would be an awesome place to go, but instead it was a cramped, place with terrible customer service and nothing to really offer, but overpriced material. I guess I came at a bad time, but employees need to start changing their attitudes. I've worked in stressful stores and I not once did I ever look look at a customer with the face of, "What the Hell is up with these people? Can't they find the stuff on their own?" I might try this place again during off season, but seriously... Stock up on materials people buy the most (such as postcards :3). read more

I recently ordered customized napkins for a baby shower and it looked as though there was a chance they would not make it in time- I paid over $20 to expedite shipping so needless to say this order was not cheap! I called into the 1-800 number and Kristin Dill helped me. She was very sweet and let me know that she would follow up to see if they could make the date or cancel if not. This is a really good store. I worked there for about 3 years in college, and I still love it. Beautiful papers, nice book art supplies and great gifts! I'm a little sad that it's getting so commercial (stores are popping up everywhere!) But it's okay, because each store has it's own personality and is unique to the area. If you need paper for any (special) occasion you needn't look any further. Paper Source has an almost overwhelming supply of stationary paper, as well as wrapping paper, some of it quite unusual (I got some of the Lokta paper). Their service is friendly, although not all of the sales staff is very knowledgeable (never heard of Lokta paper - hmmm, well, it's hanging right next to you...), but then paper is a world of it's own. Anyway, if you have special paper needs, this is a place where you may find what you need, or at least somebody might know where else to look. read more

Took advantage of Black Friday sales to purchase some discounted items. Cashier suggested I receive my receipt by email. Sure, I said, feeling the need to be green. I later discovered that the discounts had not been applied. When I emailed PS.com and asked for refund, I was told they could not help me because it was fault of individual store and I would have to return to store. Not convenient for me as I don't live/work anywhere near this store. Don't agree when they offer to email receipt. read more

PaperSource, which has eight locations nationwide, is located in Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria. Each shop is laid out differently, but Georgetown is my preferred location as it has three levels of absolutely divine papergoods, supplies, gifts and other knick knacks and treats. PaperSource could probably inspire anyone. Scrapbookers will love the simplicity of their selection, which lends itself to creative inspiration. Papercraftes and screenprinters will love the quality and integrity of every item they sell. Stampers, artists and even kids will love just about everything else. PaperSource also provides workshops for anyone interested in anything paper-oriented, and there's also a mailing list for which you can sign up and receive periodic e-mails and seasonal catalogs. The catalogs are breathtaking. I just got my Fall 2008 copy in the mail and I cannot wait to head to Georgetown and start on my homemade Christmas card plans as well as stock up on a bunch of pretty things like vintage-inspired suitcases and maybe even Gocco supplies. read more

Love the store, but customer service is horrible. Won't ever go back. I purchased flat cards and envelopes or what I thought were envelopes. It turned out that some folded cards (the same size) were in the slot. I had opened the what I thought were the envelopes that came in clear wrap and realized error. When I tried to return them the store would not take them back since I did not have the clear wrap. I was returning the 4 other packages as well. The manager was dismissive and rude. I have been a regular customer and love the product but will never return and will share my story and encourage that they shop elsewhere. read more
