Oh, how I heart you, Papersource. I wish you would move to Hawaii so that I'd be able to get my paper/craft fix whenever it hits. On a very short trip to DC, my husband and I made it point to get to the store to see what it was like. Because we don't have one in Hawaii, I had been limited to drooling all over my laptop when browsing their website. The visit to the store did not disappoint! I could have spent hours in there! Shelves and shelves of cardstocks, stamps, papers, photo albums, books, and so many other goodies were there to tempt me. I picked up some letterpressed card sets and a stamp. I would have bought much more but it wouldn't have fit in my small suitcase. =( read more

I know this place as the former art store, where I bought all the brushes for my painting class in college. It's too bad they don't cater to painters anymore, but what do you expect--artists make for lousy patrons, whatever business you're trying to keep afloat. I like this store for all its niche book binding glues and whatnot. I didn't know there was such a market for these supplies, but judging from the size of the store, revenue must be good. Stop by here to pick up supplies for the family calligrapher, book-binder, or card maker. read more

This place is so cool. I go here to find stamps and fun papers for thank you cards for clients. Great staff. Always helpful. Always upbeat. Even during Christmas! read more

Wonderful store. They saved my life when I had a gift to present to a VIP which arrived in a badly damaged box. And of course it was an unusually sized box, so I was running all over town trying to find a replacement with no luck. I was ready to try VA when I remembered the Paper Source. They had the perfect sized box and did a lovely job on the gift wrap. They have an extensive and gorgeous assortment of gift wrap. Also stationery, cards, gift bags, ribbons. It is a great resource for when I need a gift to look perfect on zero notice. read more

I came here to make bridal shower invitations and wedding ceremony programs. Both times the staff were very helpful and offered so many creative ideas (complete with example programs). I LOVE their different options for invitations - allows lots of room for individual creativity and for your budget (e.g. embossed invites vs. printed). Mine cost me a little over $2 each, including postage, which is significantly cheaper than ordering from an invitation service company. And the Paper Source has so many different options for design paper that you can find something for every taste. Here's my chance to brag that the wedding programs I made from my purchase here came out so nice that the wedding photographer kept the picture of them on his website. This is also a great place to get unique cards for mother's day, birthdays and for thank yous. I heart paper source. read more

I also love this shop. Made all my wedding invitations using quite a bit of their materials. It ain't cheap, but you have a ton of selection and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and generally very sweet. My fiance, now husband, even somewhat enjoyed it. They let me do some crazy stuff with a huge map on one of their work tables, which was nice. One warning: sometimes they run out of some of their popular supplies and have to get stuff transferred from their Alexandria store (which is also great). So be sure to give yourself extra time just in case. read more

I always wandered in this store, touching and feeling up all the paper in stock. I was not sure what to do with all the stuff. I then took a stationary class and it opened my eyes to all the things I could do with all of those products. The class was intimate, the instructor extremely knowledgeable and accessible. I learned so much with the short class, that I now I know about several tools, papers, and tricks of stationary making. I am now pretty set on making my own wedding stationary, not only because it's cheaper, it's really empowering to make and use all the neat items in the store. Michael's will NOT have this wide variety of paper, paper crafts, envelopes, liners, or embossing needs. Cons - Most of the tools sold here are much cheaper at Michael's. So, if you know what you need, go to Michael's, otherwise go here for the atmosphere, eye candy, friendly expertise and help. read more

Great store! I have to limit my trips there because I CANNOT go in there and not buy something. Paper Source has a wonderful selection of cards, gift wrap and craft supplies. They also have lots of unusual items and gifts. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Georgetown. Their website is great too. I ordered Christmas gifts through it this year and the ordering process was great. They also had deals on shipping. read more

Its a slightly expensive store, but so worth it. My god, I walked in and I thought I was in heaven. There were so many different supplies of every single colour imaginable. From planners to thank you cards to note books. From calligraphy pens to markers to clay. It had everything. The store is extremely neat and organized by colour and type of activity. There's a section for children's items as well. This is a place you want to go if you don't mind splurging on yourself a little and making yourself happy. I bought myself a blue planner from ban.do that says "I'M REALLY BUSY RIGHT NOW," and I swear it is my prized possession. The store is massive but the workers all know where everything is. They're also extremely friendly, but not those workers who constantly ask you how you're doing and if you need help. You can do your thing without them breathing down your neck. WHICH I LOVEEEE LIKE LET ME SHOP IN PEACE. Go to the store Indulge And be happy. Do it. read more

This place is adorable, but pricey. Great for cards and cute little gifts for sentimental people.

This place is no different than other Paper Source stores. The quality of the products is high and all of the items typically found online and at other stores can be found here. They are good about keeping seasonal items in stock and having relevant classes. Even for a guy, the place is not intimidating. I like this place because the staff is quite friendly and helpful. Their clearance area is pretty well stocked and has a good variety. Only a few things seemed unorganized in the sale area. It's located right underneath the stairs so it's a little dark so they probably don't want you to hang out there too long. As it is in Georgetown, you probably want to combine a visit with other areas since parking can be difficult. read more

There's no doubt that this a beautiful store filled with beautiful wrapping and patterned paper. However, on my recent trip I made two discoveries: - there's hardly any solid-colored paper sold by the sheet - they sell glue guns but not the glue to load the guns. That means I have to go to Michael's to buy these items. That's not cool considering I don't have a car. Paper Source, you let me down... read more

I really like this store. I come here for gifts, cards and for paper crafts to make for the holidays. I guess my only complaint is that there aren't enough items for Jewish holidays. read more

The inventory is terrific, the service not so much. I went in to pick up some inserts for my wedding invitations. They didn't have enough of the lavender cards I wanted on the shelves, so I politely asked one of the salespeople (wish I had gotten her name!) whether they had any left in the back. She said she would check and took one of the packs of cards with her. In the meantime, I browsed for birthday cards near the front of the store, within the line of sight of the cash register, so she could find me easily. Twenty minutes later, I had picked out all my cards and saw the saleswoman behind the cash register, helping another customer. I waited in line for a few minutes and stepped up to the counter only to find that she had actually forgotten about me--I had to remind her about my question about the cards--and didn't even apologize. Rude! She then informed me that they didn't have any of the cards in stock, but that I was free to order them online to be shipped to my residence, or have them sent to the store from the Paper Source in Alexandria. Both options would require me to pay for shipping. I understand the online shipping charge, since they would have shipped it to my apartment, but charging me to transfer inventory from one store to another? What kind of policy is that? Also, she had left the pack of the cards I had given her just lying on the counter in front of the cash register, next to the impulse purchases. When I spotted them, she was like, "Oh, yeah, those are your cards." Again, no apology. Only the cuteness and variety of their products is saving this place from a two-star review. read more

This is a great store with some of the friendliest service I've ever had. The worst part about this store is that it's always so busy. They have great things here though, both little gifts and anything wrapping. My favorite part of the store is all of the wrapping papers that they have. You can literally find anything! They had some really cute dog and cat parent gift in the back left that were so cute. Since my boyfriend got a dog, we've both been obsessed and they have some great items. Highly recommend this place for any stationary needs. read more

Alexa B. and I were frantically running around Georgetown a few weeks ago, having bought a birthday present for a close girlfriend of ours we were severely lacking in the final piece- the wrapping paper! Paper Source came to our rescue. While our friend is no fish fanatic, we went crazy with the fish-themed paper and splurged on a few different sheets. She loved it (it was pretty kooky and cute). The store is stocked with tons of adorable things- from journals, stationary, passport holders, wrapping paper, cards, books, and little extras that make gifts really unique. read more

I don't think I've ever loved a stationery store so much. Paper Source is a haven for Pinterest lovers who aren't crafty enough to hand-press flowers into cards or flawlessly execute calligraphy. I came here for thank you cards and I was not disappointed. While they are definitely on the pricier side, the quality of the paper and sophisticated designs are usually worth the price. This is also the perfect place to pick up blank stationery if you like write thoughtful notes to friends, significant others, or family. I've always thought a hand written note goes a long way, especially if it's tastefully designed. I guarantee you won't need to be convinced once you set foot in this store. Many designs can be purchased alone or in bulk (usually a box of 8-20 cards). In addition to gorgeous stationery, they have beautiful planners that you'll justify buying even if you know you'll never use them. Most of their planners are carefully designed and allow space for additional notes. This is also a great place to pick up fine paper. The Georgetown store has a great variety of designs including very tempting metallic chevron and spring florals. You can pick up beautiful wrapping paper and gift boxes which I really recommend if you're buying something for someone who you know will appreciate the presentation (read: not men). My favorite part of the store was the hidden gems that I didn't expect to find but would make great gifts. Paper Source carries many notebooks that are perfect for friends, such as the "One Line a Day" journal that you write in for 5 years. I have this book and absolutely love it! I also recommend the gratitude journal, emergency compliment booklet, and Yiddish wisdom book. If you want to find quirky gifts here, you definitely can. A few of my favorites include: mason jar shot glasses, manatea tea infusers, chalkboard wallies, and pineapple shaped ice cube trays. Expect to stay twice as long as you think in this store! read more

This is a fabulous papery. The cards are cute, the paperstock is amazing, and they have embossers and the like. I've been to similar paper stores in Pasadena and around L.A. but I thought this one was particularly nice. I bought some half-priced, card-sized stock paper, a kit that makes panda cards, and some cool (and humorous) translation cards/flashcards for a friend. read more

I feel about Paper Source the way I felt about Toys R Us as a 6 year old. It's magical. If you are obsessed with pattern, design, paper, crafts, and the limitless possibilities of a piece of patterned paper, Paper Source will feed your obsession. If you are challenged and intimidated by pattern, design, paper, crafts, and the limitless possibilities of a piece of patterned paper, Paper Source will ease your qualms. They have paper in every shade and size, walls and walls of it, a rainbow of cardstock and envelopes. Not only that, they have wrapping papers so beautiful that I'd like to decorate my apartment with them; they seem too beautiful to serve the lowly duty of temporarily disguising a gift. They also have books, clever greeting cards, Christmas ornaments, inspiring window displays, craft supplies (beads, stickers, stencils, you-name-it), and provide workshops. I go here with my credit card at the ready. I never walk out empty handed! read more

Probably my favorite stationary store in the DMV area! They have cards, stickers, mugs, gift wraps, notebooks, planners, just EVERYTHING stationary related items. In the back of the room, you can make personalized invitations/cards which was pretty cool to see. They had samples across the room to look at as well. Most of the things were a little pricey.. so definitely come here when they have sales going on. read more

Took a private party workshop for card making and we had a good time. They were flexible when we arrived 20 minutes late due to Saturday night traffic in Georgetown. Our private party was about 8 people, each person paid $25. They were very accommodating as we went for a bachlorette party activity. They personalized our workshop materials and informed us that we could have refreshments and snacks at the side (but we didn't do that because we'd have dinner right after). They also decorated the bride-to-be's work area with paper-flower lei, but we weren't allowed to take with us :(. Even though the workshop is a marketing tool for their merchandise, they didn't push us buying anything at the store. I wish they had more printed paper or materials for us to use. All the girls were extremely resourceful with the materials, but there was a shortage of print-paper that we used to line the envelopes (their provisioning was a bit stingy -- especially considering each person had about 6 envelopes to line, and there were 8 of us). I'd definitely return for another workshop. read more

Paper Source - Cards & Stationery Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Every time I'm in Paper Source, they have more adorable, must-have things than the last. I'm a sucker for stationary, journals, house knick knacks (DIY paper flower kits, cute calendars, scrapbook making things, etc.) and I always end up spending more than I should. Great, unique cards for every occasion. Highly recommended. read more

The staff is really sweet and friendly! It is a tad pricey but if you wait for a sale or a coupon you can get a pretty good bargain. If you like unique paper and notecards and very girl tchotchkes this is the place for you. Loved their selection of unique papers. Saw they had a wedding invite table with a man looking lost. Bought some really fun clear-with-polka-dot nail polish and a cute notebook. read more

I needed to get a card for my gf. I was walking down M Street and happened to pass the Paper Source. They have tons of stationary, cards, invitations, you name it. If it's made of paper, this store seems to have it. What I particularly like is the fact that the staff is both extremely friendly and helpful. I left with a very special card that isn't the typical mushy boring generic card store kind. read more

I wanted to do my own calligraphy for my wedding save the dates, so I came here in search of a very expensive pen. The staff here was helpful, although they scoffed at me for trying to do my own calligraphy. I ain't hatin' though -- I had faith in my skills and the save the dates turned out really nice. I am definitely planning to come back here again before the wedding to get more supplies. They have EVERYTHING. I was like a little kid wandering around, trying to convince my friend that we needed five different kinds of stamps. read more

This is regarding custom wedding invitations only. I was very disappointed in my experience and how much time this took to sort out. Picking out the invitations was the only easy part. What followed was several more trips to the store to fix an incorrect shipment and purchase more stock because my calligrapher did not realize they packed the wrong size of envelopes and had started on them. Then I was mischarged, which was only refunded to me after I asked to break down their invoice more clearly. But what really bothered me is Paper Source staff acted tone deaf to these inconveniences. I was shocked they charged me for more envelopes after shipping the wrong ones. I regret not going through Minted. Would've been much easier and cheaper, and caused me less stress and time planning a wedding. read more

Last week I needed some spray adhesive for a critical work project. The girl there said they didn't carry that, but recommended some book binding glue. She swore it wouldn't wrinkle the paper. I trusted her since I was in a pinch. The glue she sold me was apparently nothing more than Elmer's glue in a different bottle, it looked, functioned, and acted the same way, so it wrinkled my paper (and as an artist familiar with many different adhesives, I'm sure it wasn't a matter of misuse). I spent $8 bucks on crap that didn't function as I was told, and was clearly nothing more than cheap and useless Elmer's glue in an expensive bottle. I ended up on a photo shoot with a wrinkled prop, which drove me nuts. Based on this experience, I'll not buy another product from this store. read more

I wouldn't go into Paper Source expecting to find anything in particular - but every time I do, I find some great little present or card. I'm always pleasantly surprised. I do not recommend this store for private parties. My friend planned a party there for about 10 of us. We were coming from an afternoon show and were running behind. Our friend assured us she had been told we would have as much time as we needed when she planned the party - we were coming at 3 and they didn't close until 7. The girl who led the party was polite but disinterested as we worked on the activity. She mostly made her own craft and joined us in eating the cake we had brought. Then, just as everyone had gotten a good start on their craft, she announced that we needed to be done and out of the store in 15 minutes. This did not correspond what the party's host had been told over the phone. It also was not expressed to the group when we walked in so nobody had been in a rush. There was no flexibility and we were hustled out the door. read more

One of the best selections of cards in the city. A little more elegant and less kitschy than Pulp. Plus lots of DIY book-binding (from albums to journals) and card-making kits (birthday and thank yous) and how-to manuals. Upstairs you'll find an amazing rainbow of cards and envelopes in a variety of sizes--not just your ho-hum business enevelope. Not used to the overly spacious layout as the Boston & Cambridge shops had the same amount of stuff in a smaller area. Keep expecting more. Classes offered by the friendly staff to help aspiring artists. This is the best shop if you're looking for beautiful pre-made paperstuff or for all the ingredients to create your own. read more

Oh, beautiful things! Beautiful, lovely paper things! I had a bad experience. I had called looking for a particular paper and the woman on the phone said that they had it stock. Such a fun store! All the ubiquitous paper products, of course, but also lots of entertaining, funky gifts. There're journals, photo albums, scrapbooks, notebooks, and toys that adults would find more enjoyable (and often nostalgic) than kids would. Of the paper specifically, there're fun and weird (and occasionally simply calm, serious, or pretty) cards for all occasions, loads of wrapping paper of all types, and plenty of related decorating things. There's also a wedding section with several people always waiting to help you. The customer area of the store has shrunk over the years, but there's still a wealth of paper designs to ponder before considering what else might be available behind the velvet rope on the stairs. read more

If you're shopping for wedding invitations, beware that this branch has an inconsistent policy regarding making appointments. My fiancee called ahead to make sure we could just drop in and take a look through the massive invitation sample books, and the employee said it wouldn't be a problem, that we should stop by and someone would assist us if we had any questions. Upon arriving, we sat down and began flipping through. When we asked for a piece of scrap paper to write down pricing info, we were told that we should have made a reservation and that we would need to leave because someone with reservation was coming in. The only signage that said anything about a reservation was a small tentfold on the table that had tipped over. This is the opposite of what we were told ahead of time, but I'm willing to chalk it up to a mix-up or a new staffer. The fact that we were told to leave, however, was really impolite and unnecessary. We would have been open to scheduling an appointment later in the day, and the store really wasn't terribly busy, so we could have just browsed without being in the way of any other customers. We left and called the Old Town Alexandria branch who told us that no appointment was necessary. We drove over and had a nice hour-long chat with the Alexandria staff about invitation costs. Basically, the Georgetown branch bungled this and instead of making it right decided to ask us to leave. I'd recommend avoiding the store and hitting the Alexandria branch instead, if only for the nicer staff. read more
