The coffee is fantastic, but it is the setting that truly makes this place unforgettable! Sitting in refurbished airplane seats is such a fun and unique experience that you won't find just anywhere. The vibe inside is amazing--warm, inviting, and full of character. Whether you're stopping in for a quick coffee , hot or cold ,hanging out for while at Paper Plain Coffee is definitely worth a visit. Also casual outside seating to.
Cute airplane-themed coffee shop. Gets packed, but they have a lot of seating. I ordered the Nam dam, which was good though I couldn't really taste the cardamom. My boyfriend liked his espresso.
My favorite coffee shop in Montclair and such a cute spot. LOVE the aesthetic. I've been a few times and every coffee I've had has been excellent...smooth, flavorful, and you can tell they take pride in what they do. It's a great place to catch up with a friend or get some work done, and the staff is always friendly. Definitely one of my favorite coffee spots in Montclair.
Spent an afternoon here on a day off to finish a book and not be stuck in my hotel. Absolutely loved the coffee, so much I got two drinks. Highly recommend the Butterbroo! The unique atmosphere was fun, too. Baristas were chatty and friendly. Will absolutely be returning if I'm in the area again!
Great coffee / iced tea and ambience. Parking in the area isn't too bad either! Staff was friendly and they were so packed, the line was practically out the door! I loved the vibes.. they have plenty of options on the drink menu and some pastries. They also have a good amount of seating as well. I would absolutely stop back in and recommend this spot - people love it and I totally get it! They also have a back area for pick up, which is awesome! Cheers!
Amazing coffee and vibes. They were pretty crowded when I popped in on a random weekday at 11, and I can absolutely see why. The decor is charming and thoughtful and the airplane seats are such a fun touch. Drink selection is massive and way above and beyond the classics. The iced mint eastwood was really tasty and so photogenic. Pro-tip is to take the photo before you swirl it up! They also sell merch and you can even buy a jug of coffee to take home, which I probably should have done. Next time!
If you love coffee gotta give this place a try. Tried 3 different ones today. Root beer draft cold brew was delicious, didn't even need milk! The red white and boom had pop rocks in it! Who would've thought really cool drink, and Mel got the mint Eastwood which was delicious as well.
I love trying local cafes and paper plane did not disappoint! I had a matcha with lavender milk and maple syrup it was delicious and gone within five? Ten? Minutes maybe. I also tried the culto di brownie and it was absolutely delicious! I loved how clean the ingredients were. Service was ok. It was our first time there and the person who took my order seemed to be in a rush to take my order. Love the laid back ambience and those seats that resemble a plane?! LOVE it. I hope to be back to get the whole Paper Plane Coffee experience one day despite feeling rushed to order.
They expanded their shop and it was still full of people enjoying some creative & tasty coffees. They do pour overs presented beautifully if you enjoy it there in which case you don't need to use a disposable cup. And if you're lucky enough to have the owner taking your order, she can help you move beyond the usual coffees to some of their especially interesting ones after asking a few pointed questions. Since I was a chocolate lover she recommended the Mayan for me. She also helped our other guest pick the best pour over for her. And the Matcha latte was very rich we could add more filtered hot water on hand to freshen it up. (Appreciate the filtered cold water too.) Even my my latte design lasted till the bottom of the cup; i'll post the midway photo Everything has a feeling of being lovingly and generously made with a women owned touch. It's long past the season to shop local. Get your coffee here!
I finally made it to the Paper Plane Cafe and it was enjoyable....and unique. The cafe has a very cool section, where customers could sit as if they were sitting on a plane. Of course, these seats are always occupied, but if you're patient, you'll have your chance to enjoy it and take your Instagram pics. I ordered a Mocha Latte and it was very good. I enjoy when coffee doesn't need to cool down for an hour and this one was perfect. I also enjoyed the hint of cinnamon, as well. I also spoke to the owner. He mentioned how the cafe will be expanding and showed me the upcoming new area. I look forward to returning and enjoying the new space. If you're a gamer, the cafe also has a Super Nintendo station to help with your relaxation time. I commend the Paper Plane Coffee Co. for their ingenuity with the theme of this cafe and is highly recommended.
This is the cutest cafe with the most amazing airplane-inspired seating concept!! I ordered their hot YuenYueng (oolong tea, cold brew, and sweetened condensed milk). I really tasted every ingredient and was pleasantly surprised with how well they tasted together. I was torn between a few things on their menu though because everything they offer sounds delicious! Service was really quick but friendly. Parking was easy because I went on a Sunday afternoon, but I'd imagine it may be difficult to find street parking here depending on when you go.
I'll join the other Yelpers to say that Paper Plane has something special going on. Their beans are pretty strong in a good way- I got their half decaf iced Mayan latte and I am feeling the effects hours later! Strong and slightly on the sweeter side but still a great cup. Interior is modern and airplane themed on one side. They have an array of drinks to choose from - teas to pour overs to lattes and the classic drinks. Menu is a great read- they have descriptions of their beans. Service was good, the baristas had friendlier smiles although harried. A steady stream of customers is always a good sign! Street parking, parking garages, credit cards and Apple Pay, cash.
Beautiful ambiance Love the aviation theme Very cute shop & when you walk in it shows a newspaper article from 2023 saying top 45 coffee shops in NJ Lived up to the hype- got their hot banana latte & AMAZING!

Hi Gwen,…
We really enjoyed trying our Paper Plane Coffee today. Despite the fact that we went at about 2:30pm, it was absolutely packed, which definitely shows it's popularity. Right off the bat we loved the atmosphere. They're limited on space but the huge menu made it easy for everyone to see the variety of options, they also sell cool swag like t shirt, stickers, and mugs. They also have tons of flavors with cool names like The Vincent Vega and The Mint Eastwood (which we got). Overall the vibe was super cool, the coffee was great, and we really enjoyed our experience. Will definitely recommend! read more

Gotta be one of the most picturesque coffee places I've ever been to. Panoramic views from floor to ceiling windows and live jazz. Espresso was on point too. read more

If you want a coffee shop that is unique and has amazing coffee this is the place for you. I'm a guy who who isn't really picky when it comes to coffee. I just needed an espresso. But on the other hand I love yoohoo chocolate milk. They have a truffle shuffle that's a yoohoo and double shot of espresso. Simple but amazing. I think what makes this place so cool is that you sit in seats like your on an actual plane. All of the batistas were full of smiles and they were so fast. Love this place. I'll definitely come back read more

I love this place. It's so freaking cute and has the coolest drinks. The inside is very well decorated and the posters hung up behind the bar are very interesting. There are about 3 seats inside by the window bar but there are some tables set up outside. The menu is so interesting and this time I got the Mayan Latte which was delicious and a little spicy, I LOVED it. Definitely a must try. read more
Just maybe the best coffee shop we've been to! The coffees were excellent with a bold taste and smooth finish. The shop itself has a fantastic with such a creative design. The seating is situated like you are seated in first class and of an airliner (see pics). The signage and decor is all airplane themed. There are fun little things everywhere you look. You don't Enter, you Arrive. Similarly, you don't Exit, you Depart. So clever. The best is the old school Arrivals / Departures board that changes (audible and visual) with the song being played in the shop. Super friendly staff. Outlets at all seats. Internet availability. Loved it!! read more
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away If you can use some exotic beans There's a coffee bar in far Montclair Come on, fly with me, we'll float down in latte bliss I have a thing watching planes taking-off and landing. I hear that there is an area outside of an In-N-Out where you can see the planes up-close landing at LAX. That would be such an awesome experience. So when I found out that this Java cafe was called...Paper Plane Coffee I was like no way. What is even more exciting? Their drink menu had some of the most creative flavors I have come across. They also do coffee soda which is something I have not seen elsewhere. Here are a few examples of their inventive coffees/lattes: - Nesquik Strawberry topped with Nesquik Chocolate and espresso - YooHoo with a double espresso - peppermint with chocolate-cinnamon espresso - guava nectar with sweetened condensed milk and espresso - cold brew, Oolong tea with sweetened condensed milk The line was out the door when we got there. The decor is bright. I love the fun airplane seats and colorful "Come Fly With Me" mural. There are also a couple of arcade games if you are a Street Fighter fan. Service was first-class friendly. And I dig the $5 latte price that is not sky-high. I had the Mint Eastwood and Milo-presso and the flavors came through nicely on both these drinks. The process is a pour-over so there is a bit of a wait but worth it once you take that first sip that will bring you into a state of euphoria. read more
Obviously a popular coffee shop in the area. The time that I went (3:30ish) it was full. Only place to sit was at the window on a stool. I didn't get the chance to try out the airplane seating area but it looked cute. Coffee was okay; usual drip which I get. They didn't have my usual flavor, hazelnut, so I got the brown sugar. The cashier was pleasant enough. I also wanted a bite to eat but all they had left was a cinnamon bun (which I wasn't in the mood for). Therefore I couldn't try any of the pastries. My first experience was okay. Definitely has a nice hipster, trendy vibe to the atmosphere. read more

Cute coffee spot! Loads of seating outside, small bench area with window view inside. I tried the cold brew, cardamom with sweetened condensed milk. You can get it hot (as a latte) but I stuck with the cold drink. Loved the cardamom flavor in this and the sweetness was perfect, not overly sweet. I will definitely come back to this place to give their other coffee drinks a try! read more

First things first, I have been very rude and superficial towards this establishment. A couple months ago a group of hooligans, including myself, wrote funny bad reviews, his responses were terrible and not witty but he did make counterclaims. After a 3 weeks of this I was invited down to the store to try it for myself, I personally hate coffee and I continued to not like this but after I revealed my secret identity the owner showed kindness and was very inviting. I felt terrible about the falsehoods I splattered on the prestigious Yelp.com and knew I had to make it right. This is my retribution. I emplore anyone reading to pick one of Jonathan's creations and give their own feedback. I continue to not like coffee or the decor but I can see the appeal. Jonathan if you're reading this, may god bless you this 2025 and I wish you good faith in the year of the snake. read more

This is no ordinary coffee shop, not only is their whole concept and decor astonishingly creative and unique, but their drinks are also as creative and unique as the shop itself! The servers are super friendly and will give you a hand at deciding what sort of cool concoction suits your preferences which is always a plus in my book because I can be indecisive when it comes to trying new things. -I ended up deciding on the "Westside Story" which is their Guava and condensed milk iced latte. It sounded super crazy and different (in a good way) and it's exactly the uniqueness I was looking for. The drink is half pink/half brown guessing it's the guava concoction that made it pink. It was quite different and refreshing however, when it comes to coffee, if you are more of a traditionalist, then this might not be the one for you because the guava flavor supersedes the coffee flavor imo. -They did not have much of a selection of pastries when I went so I opted for one of the "Milk Bar" packaged cookies on the counter. They have a bunch of different MilkBar cookie flavors and Merch as well. Over all, this place is all you can expect from "The cool coffee shop in town" it's location is what keeps this little gem so low key, but once you find it, it's definitely a must try! 10/10. read more
Amazing coffee!!!! We ordered a couple coffees togo as well as a bag pf beans to make at home because we head great things about this place and we were very impressed. We came on a Saturday afternoon so it was pretty busy but the shop is beautifully decorated with the most fun "paper plane" them and the vibes were perfect. Our coffees came out so smooth and creamy, not overly sweet or bitter at all. The beans we took home have been heavenly. Can't wait to pick up another bag. read more
I can't say enough about Paper Plane, so I'll keep it pithy. The place is worthy of its legend status. Everything about is perfect, from the coffee selection, to the coffee soda selection, to the food. The service is friendly, safe, and prompt. My wife and I routinely make this place a destination in and of itself, even though we live in Staten Island. I splurged on their expensive cup of coffee (I forget the name), and it was the singular best cup of black coffee I ever had. Go! read more
In its natural state, the coffee bean is wrapped in a parchment layer, and enclosed within the red cherry like coffee fruit. The outer layer of the coffee cherry, the layer that gives it its red color is called Sultana in Bolivia, Hashara in Ethiopia; Qishr in Yeman; Cascara in English (& Spanish). It is also known as Coffee Husk. The coffee husk or Cascara is typically discarded in the milling process. But it is delicious and has health benefits. Traditionally it was brewed (like tea) all by itself or blended with coffee beans and brewed like coffee. When blended with coffee beans it reduces the acidity of the coffee and adds Umami. At Paper Plane we don't get Cascara blended with coffee, but they do have a Cascara drink (on the tap). I am told that this drink is seasonal and may not be available in winter. I love the Cascara at Paper Plane with a spoonful of honey. read more
I can't believe how long it took me to visit paper plane!!! This place is SO deserving of all of the reviews. Great options, ambience and quality. Ask, remember that you can order ahead online! I will 100% be visiting much more often now! read more
A very cute and unique coffee shop! The owner was beyond friendly and walked us through the menu. I got the coco matcha. I was originally a bit scared of how strong the rum flavor would be, but it ended up being the perfect amount. It was enough to taste the rum flavor but not overpowering, which was nice! I would definitely want to come back to try the other flavors if I'm ever in the area again :) The bathroom was also clean if anyone cares about that ! read more
Someone I follow on Instagram keeps raving about this place and when I had the opportunity to be in Montclair, I HAD to stop by to see if this place lived up to the given hype. Spoiler alert. It did! ***In a rush? Skip to the end for my tips.*** I ordered an iced latte and it was not bitter at all, with the perfect amount of milk and didn't leave a bitter coffee aftertaste. With my first sip, I was surprised by the smoothness of the coffee. And, the staff were the nicest people ever, like super duper nice! They were so patient and super friendly and upbeat the whole time. The lady in front of me had so many questions and so many specific requests. Yet, not a single sign of annoyance in their faces or voices. Just smiles and kind words. I was very impressed. I wish they were in my area, too. Maybe one day? :) Tips: - Parking is a bit of a pain. I had to circle a few times to find parking. Maybe if you are a local, you probably have better advice, but as an out-of-towner, I saw a lot more parking options on N. Fullerton Ave (heading towards Claremont Ave.) It was hard to find parking on Claremont Ave, but it could've been the time of day, too. The coffee is worth the parking hunt! - They have a separate pickup window by the entrance for online orders, which I wish I knew so that I could've brought my dog with me instead of leaving her in the car. They also had water for dogs. Love that they are dog friendly. - You could order online and pick up at the store. It seems like they have everything in their store listed on their online ordering. I will definitely have to try this next time. - They have a reward system if you are a frequent customer. Super easy to sign up. - There were a few outdoor seating areas along the side of the building and a picnic bench right by the front. - They have a Nintendo system that you or a bored child could play, which is pretty clever and probably a lifesaver for impatient children. read more

We ordered 2 hot drinks (Milo-presso and Nan-Dam). Neither was hot and the Milo-themed espresso was room temperature. The chocolate croissant and ham & cheese croissant were also not warmed, nor offered to be warmed, but still good. With the normal noise of a coffee shop, the airplane theme tied the restaurant together. The service and servers are where this "neighborhood coffee place" really excelled! read more

The coffee was so good. It was sweet though because I got the Milo (the Colombian chocolate) with coffee. I loved it. I can't wait to try more things from their menu. Such a nice coffee shop and even nicer people! Food: very straightforward: what type of coffee, how would you like it, etc. Service: on top of the really cool service desk style the gentleman working the front was super nice and chatted with us a bit. Aesthetic: definitely the best thing about this aesthetic is both appeal and serviceable space. The small compartments allow for them to put stuff for sale while also filling other compartments with beautiful plants and art to allow for the classic coffee shop feel. read more

I'm not a coffee drinker so I come for a treat when I'm craving matcha. I saw the Young Frank special on Instagram and decided to try it. Wow!! It was probably the best matcha drink I've ever had. The flavors blend perfectly and are so addictive. My husband and I have already been back twice this weeked to order it again. Would love to keep it all year round! read more

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’re sorry to…
I'm always on the hunt for the perfect coffee shop. One that has good coffee and good vibes. This place had all of that. I enjoyed the unconventional set up where half the store was the area where you order and the other half was where the magic was being made. They had a bright menu that was easy to follow. There were so many interesting coffee combos that I didn't know what to choose. I'm A coffee snob so I was overwhelmed in a good way. I landed on the Voodoo hot coffee and I was pleased. It had a spiced, chicory flavor that made for an interesting brew. They made it customary to my liking. The staff was super friendly and patient to my questions as it was my first time there. I'll definitely be back to try their beans, some pour overs and some other concoctions under the Science section. Oh and coffee soda.. whhhhhatt? Paper planes has really out done themselves. The decor is inviting however it's not giving come in and sit down vibes. There's very minimal seating indoor and a few outdoor benches. Hopefully that changes in the future. read more

Bagels made here or where?
Hey Will, we do not make bagels here. But, there are a few really good bagel places within walking distance. We are specialty coffee roasters
Are you offering indoor seating at this time?
Unfortunately no. Our space inside is only big enough for our ordering window, market, and production. We are expanding next door to reopen indoor seating though. Should be ready in a few weeks. We currently have seats available outside
Does their outdoor seating have umbrellas?
We do not have umbrellas, but that's mainly because our sidewalk doesn't get direct sunlight for most of the day. It's usually pretty shady and nice
