I hear that there is an area outside of an In-N-Out where you can see the planes up-close landing at LAX. That would be such an awesome experience. So when I found out that this Java cafe was called...Paper Plane Coffee I was like no way. What is even more exciting? Their drink menu had some of the most creative flavors I have come across. They also do coffee soda which is something I have not seen elsewhere. Here are a few examples of their inventive coffees/lattes: - Nesquik Strawberry topped with Nesquik Chocolate and espresso - YooHoo with a double espresso - peppermint with chocolate-cinnamon espresso - guava nectar with sweetened condensed milk and espresso - cold brew, Oolong tea with sweetened condensed milk The line was out the door when we got there. The decor is bright. I love the fun airplane seats and colorful "Come Fly With Me" mural. There are also a couple of arcade games if you are a Street Fighter fan. Service was first-class friendly. And I dig the $5 latte price that is not sky-high. I had the Mint Eastwood and Milo-presso and the flavors came through nicely on both these drinks. The process is a pour-over so there is a bit of a wait but worth it once you take that first sip that will bring you into a state of euphoria. read more

Just maybe the best coffee shop we've been to! The coffees were excellent with a bold taste and smooth finish. The shop itself has a fantastic with such a creative design. The seating is situated like you are seated in first class and of an airliner (see pics). The signage and decor is all airplane themed. There are fun little things everywhere you look. You don't Enter, you Arrive. Similarly, you don't Exit, you Depart. So clever. Obviously a popular coffee shop in the area. The time that I went (3:30ish) it was full. Only place to sit was at the window on a stool. I didn't get the chance to try out the airplane seating area but it looked cute. Coffee was okay; usual drip which I get. They didn't have my usual flavor, hazelnut, so I got the brown sugar. The cashier was pleasant enough. I also wanted a bite to eat but all they had left was a cinnamon bun (which I wasn't in the mood for). Therefore I couldn't try any of the pastries. This is no ordinary coffee shop, not only is their whole concept and decor astonishingly creative and unique, but their drinks are also as creative and unique as the shop itself! The servers are super friendly and will give you a hand at deciding what sort of cool concoction suits your preferences which is always a plus in my book because I can be indecisive when it comes to trying new things. -I ended up deciding on the "Westside Story" which is their Guava and condensed milk iced latte. It sounded super crazy and different (in a good way) and it's exactly the uniqueness I was looking for. The drink is half pink/half brown guessing it's the guava concoction that made it pink. It was quite different and refreshing however,when it comes to coffee, if you are more of a traditionalist, then this might not be the one for you because the guava flavor supersedes the coffee flavor imo. -They did not have much of a selection of pastries when I went so I opted for one of the "Milk Bar" packaged cookies on the counter. They have a bunch of different MilkBar cookie flavors and Merch as well. We ordered 2 hot drinks (Milo-presso and Nan-Dam). Neither was hot and the Milo-themed espresso was room temperature. The chocolate croissant and ham & cheese croissant were also not warmed, nor offered to be warmed, but still good. Cute coffee spot! Loads of seating outside, small bench area with window view inside. I tried the cold brew, cardamom with sweetened condensed milk. You can get it hot (as a latte) but I stuck with the cold drink. Loved the cardamom flavor in this and the sweetness was perfect, not overly sweet. In its natural state, the coffee bean is wrapped in a parchment layer, and enclosed within the red cherry like coffee fruit. The outer layer of the coffee cherry, the layer that gives it its red color is called Sultana in Bolivia, Hashara in Ethiopia; Qishr in Yeman; Cascara in English (& Spanish). It is also known as Coffee Husk. The coffee husk or Cascara is typically discarded in the milling process. But it is delicious and has health benefits. Traditionally it was brewed (like tea) all by itself or blended with coffee beans and brewed like coffee. When blended with coffee beans it reduces the acidity of the coffee and adds Umami. At Paper Plane we don't get Cascara blended with coffee, but they do have a Cascara drink (on the tap). I am told that this drink is seasonal and may not be available in winter. It is about the fact that after several years, we found out yesterday that the wonderful musicians who have been playing at Paper Plan for several years have, at least for the moment, been "terminated." Pianist Bob McHugh and bassist Ron Naspo play on Friday afternoons and are brilliant! They are usually joined by fine guest musicians including sax players and singers. They are a treasure and should never be let go. It is so disappointing. I can't believe that Paper Plane can no longer "afford" to keep them on. It is truly a shame that in these days of DJs and canned music almost everywhere you go that a small live band like this, one that provides so much pleasure, would be dismissed like this. Someone I follow on Instagram keeps raving about this place and when I had the opportunity to be in Montclair, I HAD to stop by to see if this place lived up to the given hype. Spoiler alert. Fullerton Ave (heading towards Claremont Ave.) It was hard to find parking on Claremont Ave, but it could've been the time of day, too. The coffee is worth the parking hunt! - They have a separate pickup window by the entrance for online orders, which I wish I knew so that I could've brought my dog with me instead of leaving her in the car. I will echo what some other reviewers have said about the parking being a challenge at times, but that's not on the shop whatsoever and is really just a result of the way the town is laid out. I asked for a little more cold brew in my drink, since I couldn't even taste the coffee, and was met with the rudest, pettiest response from the manger (?) and was made to feel totally unwelcome, and as a result I will no longer be patronizing this business. She seemed annoyed the second I walked up, and almost immediately asked me for more money when I told her my drink was a little light on coffee and asked her if they could add a little more (I specified cold brew since it was an iced drink and that's easier to add a few splashes of then espresso, but I would have taken any coffee). Not ONLY that, she then proceeded to gossip with another staff member about me and my request- I was sitting within earshot- and then had the other staff member come over and slyly look over my shoulder at my phone, presumably to see if I was leaving a bad review. So, I left a comment on their Instagram about the bad customer service. There was an almost immediate response on Instagram alleging that I asked for an ice free drink?? (Ice was never mentioned), and then I was blocked and my comments were deleted. So now I'm posting in a place where they can't be deleted in hopes that the owner sees them. I understand that it may be annoying when people ask for adjustments to drinks that were already made, but if you have such obvious disdain for customers and behave in such a petty manner, I would reassess why you chose to work in a customer service based job. read more

Visited here for the first time to hop on a zoom call and quickly realized that this was not the quietest spot for that but a very popular and unique spot that I will definitely return to. I'm always on the hunt for the perfect coffee shop. One that has good coffee and good vibes. This place had all of that. I enjoyed the unconventional set up where half the store was the area where you order and the other half was where the magic was being made. They had a bright menu that was easy to follow. There were so many interesting coffee combos that I didn't know what to choose. I'm A coffee snob so I was overwhelmed in a good way. I landed on the Voodoo hot coffee and I was pleased. It had a spiced, chicory flavor that made for an interesting brew. They made it customary to my liking. The staff was super friendly and patient to my questions as it was my first time there.
