The coffee is fantastic, but it is the setting that truly makes this place unforgettable! Sitting in refurbished airplane seats is such a fun and unique experience that you won't find just anywhere. The vibe inside is amazing--warm, inviting, and full of character. Whether you're stopping in for a quick coffee , hot or cold ,hanging out for while at Paper Plain Coffee is definitely worth a visit. Also casual outside seating to.
Cute airplane-themed coffee shop. Gets packed, but they have a lot of seating. I ordered the Nam dam, which was good though I couldn't really taste the cardamom. My boyfriend liked his espresso.
My favorite coffee shop in Montclair and such a cute spot. LOVE the aesthetic. I've been a few times and every coffee I've had has been excellent...smooth, flavorful, and you can tell they take pride in what they do. It's a great place to catch up with a friend or get some work done, and the staff is always friendly. Definitely one of my favorite coffee spots in Montclair.
Spent an afternoon here on a day off to finish a book and not be stuck in my hotel. Absolutely loved the coffee, so much I got two drinks. Highly recommend the Butterbroo! The unique atmosphere was fun, too. Baristas were chatty and friendly. Will absolutely be returning if I'm in the area again!
Great coffee / iced tea and ambience. Parking in the area isn't too bad either! Staff was friendly and they were so packed, the line was practically out the door! I loved the vibes.. they have plenty of options on the drink menu and some pastries. They also have a good amount of seating as well. I would absolutely stop back in and recommend this spot - people love it and I totally get it! They also have a back area for pick up, which is awesome! Cheers!
Amazing coffee and vibes. They were pretty crowded when I popped in on a random weekday at 11, and I can absolutely see why. The decor is charming and thoughtful and the airplane seats are such a fun touch. Drink selection is massive and way above and beyond the classics. The iced mint eastwood was really tasty and so photogenic. Pro-tip is to take the photo before you swirl it up! They also sell merch and you can even buy a jug of coffee to take home, which I probably should have done. Next time!
If you love coffee gotta give this place a try. Tried 3 different ones today. Root beer draft cold brew was delicious, didn't even need milk! The red white and boom had pop rocks in it! Who would've thought really cool drink, and Mel got the mint Eastwood which was delicious as well.
I love trying local cafes and paper plane did not disappoint! I had a matcha with lavender milk and maple syrup it was delicious and gone within five? Ten? Minutes maybe. I also tried the culto di brownie and it was absolutely delicious! I loved how clean the ingredients were. Service was ok. It was our first time there and the person who took my order seemed to be in a rush to take my order. Love the laid back ambience and those seats that resemble a plane?! LOVE it. I hope to be back to get the whole Paper Plane Coffee experience one day despite feeling rushed to order.
They expanded their shop and it was still full of people enjoying some creative & tasty coffees. They do pour overs presented beautifully if you enjoy it there in which case you don't need to use a disposable cup. And if you're lucky enough to have the owner taking your order, she can help you move beyond the usual coffees to some of their especially interesting ones after asking a few pointed questions. Since I was a chocolate lover she recommended the Mayan for me. She also helped our other guest pick the best pour over for her. And the Matcha latte was very rich we could add more filtered hot water on hand to freshen it up. (Appreciate the filtered cold water too.) Even my my latte design lasted till the bottom of the cup; i'll post the midway photo Everything has a feeling of being lovingly and generously made with a women owned touch. It's long past the season to shop local. Get your coffee here!
I finally made it to the Paper Plane Cafe and it was enjoyable....and unique. The cafe has a very cool section, where customers could sit as if they were sitting on a plane. Of course, these seats are always occupied, but if you're patient, you'll have your chance to enjoy it and take your Instagram pics. I ordered a Mocha Latte and it was very good. I enjoy when coffee doesn't need to cool down for an hour and this one was perfect. I also enjoyed the hint of cinnamon, as well. I also spoke to the owner. He mentioned how the cafe will be expanding and showed me the upcoming new area. I look forward to returning and enjoying the new space. If you're a gamer, the cafe also has a Super Nintendo station to help with your relaxation time. I commend the Paper Plane Coffee Co. for their ingenuity with the theme of this cafe and is highly recommended.
This is the cutest cafe with the most amazing airplane-inspired seating concept!! I ordered their hot YuenYueng (oolong tea, cold brew, and sweetened condensed milk). I really tasted every ingredient and was pleasantly surprised with how well they tasted together. I was torn between a few things on their menu though because everything they offer sounds delicious! Service was really quick but friendly. Parking was easy because I went on a Sunday afternoon, but I'd imagine it may be difficult to find street parking here depending on when you go.
I'll join the other Yelpers to say that Paper Plane has something special going on. Their beans are pretty strong in a good way- I got their half decaf iced Mayan latte and I am feeling the effects hours later! Strong and slightly on the sweeter side but still a great cup. Interior is modern and airplane themed on one side. They have an array of drinks to choose from - teas to pour overs to lattes and the classic drinks. Menu is a great read- they have descriptions of their beans. Service was good, the baristas had friendlier smiles although harried. A steady stream of customers is always a good sign! Street parking, parking garages, credit cards and Apple Pay, cash.
Beautiful ambiance Love the aviation theme Very cute shop & when you walk in it shows a newspaper article from 2023 saying top 45 coffee shops in NJ Lived up to the hype- got their hot banana latte & AMAZING!
DEFINITELY coming again. I visited Montclair for the first time recently, and my friend had spoken very highly of this cafe, so I made sure to check it out during my trip. First, the interior was SO cute. I really appreciated how there were different sections in the cafe (the famous plane section, tables for groups, and a quiet corner counter on the other side), and the space was very open and welcoming. Second, the barista was so friendly and helpful. She recommended the Nam-Dam drink, and it was soo yummy. Will definitely try again (along w/ many of their other specialty drinks). Update: Came here for second time w/ my boyfriend, and both our drinks were amazing. We got the butterbroo and Mayan latte. read more

Really cool coffe place located in Montclair. It's such vibe! I love the names and the science behind their different coffees and brews. I absolutely love the decor and airplane theme. They even take it a step further and have airplane seats which I think is an amazing touch. Will be coming back! read more
Wifey stopped by paper plane to pick us up some coffee and pastries. The 4th of July coffee was delicious and hit different. The chocolate croissant was awesome super flaky and crispy. The really star of the show, however, was the almond croissant. Super flaky and delicious with the almond paste filling it really was soooo fire. Definitely worth stopping by paper plane for a delicious coffee and a little treat! read more

Social media has gone crazy for this place so I HAD to go. A beautiful corner location with street parking. Lots of outdoor seating. Aesthetically, the place is beautiful! Lots of old fixtures juxtaposed with the aero theme. In addition to the much photographed airplane seats, everything's a feast for my eyes. From the tin ceilings and steel-framed casement windows to the functioning split-flap display sign, I'm transported and I'm in love. Simply beautiful! The person who took my order was LOVELY!! Very amicable and very patient. Got a croissant and an Americano. Highly impressed with the Americano! It was bold and rich for a decaf. Another thing I loved about this place! Two things I didn't like was how loud the music was and fruit flies. I understand creating a vibe but it was already busy in there so the loud music with all those people talking over it was not fun. In any case, this place still made me happy. I'll come fly with y'all anytime! read more

Love the cafe theme and the menu options! Came here around 8am on a Tuesday. The place was busy but there were still a few open tables. I got a "window seat" and was able to spend the morning working with my laptop. There are a wide selection of drinks and I tried the Milo-presso. The drink was on the sweeter side so I would probably ask to lower the sweetness next time. The staff here are super nice and the place is clean and well lit. Love the background music while I was there. read more
This is seriously the cutest coffee shop ever. As someone that loves to fly, I love the airplane vibes here. I love trying out the coffees under the Science section, everything has always been delicious and prices are very reasonable. They have decent amount of seating inside and outside but sometimes it has been hard to find seating - its been super busy every time I've went. My favorite seat are the airplane seats that make me feel like I'm on a plane. Staff is super friendly and coffee is ready pretty quickly. Check it out if you're in the area! read more

Cute little coffee shop. Was able to find a seat pretty quickly. Only ordered an oat chai latte and matcha latte, both were good. When they get busy, it takes a little while. Also there is only street parking which sometimes can take a while to find especially on the weekends. Came back to try more coffee, grabbed the pecan croissant roll which was delicious, and buy their espresso beans (said to be the best in NJ) and can confirm they were great! read more
The insta reels don't do this place justice. This little shop is WAY cuter in person. The theme is so on point and the drinks are actually good! The tables are movable but the seats are not. I didn't expect to walk into a mini shop in front of the cashier. Lavender latte 5/5 All the pastries were gone by the time I got there. Parking can be hard to find but if you circle around, one or two spots open up pretty often. This is a great place to chill. read more

So cute, so cool, great service, great menu! I love exploring new cafes across the globe! If you're like me and want to feel like you're traveling while you cannot, this is a coffee shop you should visit! Haha I appreciated the black art as well. I was surprised to see so many ppl here early on a weekday I luckily got a seat by someone who was leaving but it remained packed the hour or more that I was there. Go, enjoy! Imagine your next vacation! read more

I'm re rating to a 1 star because the business owners response to my review. I'm a loyal customer to so many amazing establishments that don't have to boast their same awards and accolades but go above and beyond to satisfy a customer. If you are a business owner and you're selling a product people have every right to rate and review an establishment. I've tried 100s of cups of coffee and in comparison these were just not good. I even said in my rating that I bought four drinks to give you a proper chance to prove yourself. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Congratulations on all of your awards. read more

Any establishment with damn near close to a perfect rating certainly doesn't need my help but here goes. Super cool and unique coffee shop with an airplane feel. Decor is strictly retro Boeing 727 and it works flawlessly. Ample inside and outside seating, great coffee and a few selected food items. 2 words of caution. Get there early because the line can be long and, like 99% of businesses in Montclair, parking sucks. read more

My friend turned me on to Paper Plane's beans which I purchased a couple of times for pour-over. It's very good coffee, but I particularly enjoy their speciality coffee drinks. I tried the butter broo which is Harry Potter butterbeer inspired. It's delicious and spiced perfectly for fall. My favorites are the Mint Eastwood (peppermint milk, chocolate-cinnamon espresso) and iced Milo-presso (Milo malt chocolate, brown sugar, milk, espresso). You can taste the mint and chocolate and cinnamon all in the Mint Eastwood. It's delicious and tastes like dessert. The Milo-presso tastes like chocolate milk but in the most delicious way. The malt is subtle and good for folks who don't know whether they're into that savoriness or not. Vibes are obviously great and interior is lovely, but there's rarely a good seat. read more

The service here was great really friendly staff took the time to explain menu items to us. The Ube Latte was really good I think i'd get double espresso next time because it didn't taste much like coffee to me, but that would bring the drink to $9 so it is a little pricey. The almond croissant was giant and really good but it is very sweet so make sure you're in the mood for sweet when you order it. The voodoo iced coffee was also good a little strong on the spiced syrup so maybe ask for light syrup if you're not into strong spices in your coffee. The aesthetic of the place was awesome and would definitely check it out if you're in the area! read more

They have some amazing coffee based beverages. My favorite was the Mayan latte - perfect blend of coffee, cinnamon, cayenne - cinnamon is not over powering. And the drink is not too sweet as well. The Ruskys was also a fun bubbly drink - have some notch of ginger. The decor is so fresh and welcoming. The place is busy but it's quite spacious. They have a plane theme interiors with first class kind of seatings and so many old plane diagram posters on the wall. They have an old style billboard which is synced with the songs playing in background. So cool!! The cafe crew is super friendly and service is great! read more
I pass this coffee spot weekly - the girl I sit for attends French class down the block. After passing it for half a year, I finally decided to stop in. Not only is this place extremely well decorated inside (has plane seating), their coffee was fantastic. I ordered a decaf iced latte with almond milk and vanilla. Delicious!! Will now stop in here regularly before my pick ups. Very glad I stumbled upon this place. Looks like a nice spot to do homework/study. They have a ton of charging stations and free wifi. Staff was also very polite and kind. read more
Such a unique coffee shop!! Located on a corner, this cafe is super spacious with high ceilings and plenty of room for seating (aside from the fake airplane seats!) The service is quick and the coffee is pretty good! There are several small pastries available - but no oven if you want anything heated up or toasted. Not a deal break, but just an FYI They have the usual coffee menu, plus coffee-infused sodas/"cocktails". Great place to hang out and chat with a friend - I will be back soon to try their more experimental coffees! Fun fact - in the corner they have two retro arcade games like Mortal Kombat read more
Paper plane I think this is the prettiest cafe I have been to all year! I absolutely love the concept that they have and how they brought the plane theme to life by incorporating it so well all over the cafe! There are so many great things to say about this place so let's break it up into categories! Drinks: They have over 50 drink choices to choose from - yes 50! They have variations of your classics and favorites to accommodate everyones tastes. They also have unique speciality drinks and combinations to try including Pour Over, Bubbly drinks and Cold Brew Selections. Lol I spent over 20 minutes deciding what to have but had my usual an Iced Mocha with Oatmilk and it was too delicious! The Chocolate used was of great quality and cinnamon infused. Most of their drinks can also be made vegan if you ask! Food: They have fresh pastries available from Le French Dad which are freshly baked daily and a lot of grab and go snack options. The Cafe / Aesthetics This cafe is pretty big and can accommodate id say a little over 20 people inside and more outside on their patio. They have a cool booth which is designed like the inside of an airplane with a window and everything. They also offer high top seating and have an outdoor seating as well. They also have a restroom on site. They also have arcade games like street fighter and mortal combat! Product Selection They have a variety of products available for purchase like a variety of coffee beans, cold brew coffee blends, milk, recipe books, totes, mugs and etc. The service in here is also really great and the staff is super friendly and knowledgable. I would 10/10 recommend this place and will be back when I visit NJ again this summer. read more

New favorite coffee shop. We walked in when it was pouring rain and immediately became friends with the workers. I had the guava coffee because it sounded super weird and it ended up being so unique and tasty. The coffee is strong and flavorful and interesting and the vibes are great. What more could you ask for. It's situated on a cute little corner with a lot of street parking and the only thing I could really want is for the place to get even bigger since it's becoming so popular. The set up inside is super creative and the seats are way more comfy than your average coffee shop since they are air plane seats. They also have this cool board on the wall like the one from the airport where the letters flip to tell you the status of your flight. read more
Finally made my way to the new Paper Plane location (right next door). So exciting that the business expanded and is bigger and offers more seating for guests. My prior reviews remain the same. Paper Plane is still one of my favorite unique coffee shops. I always stop by when visiting from out of town. This time around I picked up a camp cup which keeps your bevs hot and cold. I also ordered an iced matcha latte with vanilla and oat milk which is my least favorite. The matcha is more on the watery side. read more

Very cute shop in Jersey! This place came highly recommended by others to me, and it did not disappoint. I was quickly overwhelmed by the menu as someone that normally just gets a SF vanilla latte, but they were able to recommend a great option and adjust to help with the sugar for me. Super tasty, and I will be back! read more

You really need to visit this coffee shop! I was visiting for a work trip and a local friend of mine suggested going here if I had any telework time on my hands-- I am so thankful she shared this spot with me! Words I would use to describe Paper Plane Coffee - Montclair: fabulous service, tasty coffee, unique, unforgettable. I wish I would have taken a photo of the inside but just imagine high ceilings, modern edge mixed with the feeling of being a jet-setter! It had cozy one and two person seats that provided a great space to enjoy your coffee while being on your laptop. Imagine the old school single desks, but instead you're enjoying coffee house views while admiring the foot traffic outside the large floor to ceiling front window. The coffee was unique and tasty, but the ambiance was what really set this spot apart from others. I'll definitely be back! read more

Upon entry, I was met with a reasonably long line that actually went out the door the moment I entered. Though the line was long, it went by quick as I was met with friendly and knowledgable staff. I asked for a sweeter drink to which I was recommended the Nam-Dam. I had it iced and it was good but it left a weird bitter after taste. I also ordered the almond croissant which was absolutely delicious. It is no secret that many people come here for the aesthetically pleasing ambiance. I sad for over an hour reading my book and it was a family friendly ambiance with very hipster vibes. If you're looking to read in silence this is not the space because of the vast amount of visitors this place gets as well. I think it's cool that they offer free water as well but the seating maybe holds about 15-20 people so don't expect to stay for long if you're here in groups larger than three. read more
One of the best coffee shops in NJ in my opinion, the menu is creative, tasty, and relatively cheap ($5 lattes) compared to prices I've seen in most other coffee shops. The plane-like seating area is cute and Instagram-worthy though the seats are a bit worn down and dirty. I've tried the buterbroo, mint eastwood (tastes like a thin mint to me), and the matcha latte (great color, no clumps, whisked properly) here are all great. read more

I'm now a believer in light roast coffee thanks to these guys. They specialize in light roast coffee but unlike the typical "lights" I've tried, these have a range of flavor profiles. Their espresso wasnt acidic or bright, rather it was perfectly balanced due to three coffees they blend together. I had a standard Cappucino. Feel free to ask them what coffee they recommend bc the staff is very friendly and knowledgable. All beans are roasted onsight. As for the menu: They have a load of pourover options, a standard coffee menu of things like lattes, cappuccinos and also their "science" section which is composed of their coffee drink creations. The barista told me their butterbroo is very popular and I'm sorry I didn't try it. I love the atmosphere. It's friendly, welcoming, laid back, casual and attracts a wide age rage and interest range of customers. In cooler months seating is limited to a counter against the window and a small table. Between this is a gaming console which people loved. read more

Visited this shop while visiting family in Montclair, and let me tell you that from the minute I stepped in I knew it was going to be good. The shop itself was so cute and aesthetically pleasing. The staff was super nice and welcoming. The coffee literally reminded me of my favorite shop in California, and the pastries were some of the best I've had. Literally can't wait to go back to New Jersey so I can go back to this shop! read more

Bagels made here or where?
Hey Will, we do not make bagels here. But, there are a few really good bagel places within walking distance. We are specialty coffee roasters
Are you offering indoor seating at this time?
Unfortunately no. Our space inside is only big enough for our ordering window, market, and production. We are expanding next door to reopen indoor seating though. Should be ready in a few weeks. We currently have seats available outside
Does their outdoor seating have umbrellas?
We do not have umbrellas, but that's mainly because our sidewalk doesn't get direct sunlight for most of the day. It's usually pretty shady and nice
