The paint has been chipping off a bit since then, and I finally bit the bullet to find someone to repair it. I found David here on Yelp. I liked that others wrote reviews on his repair work. He is a master at his craft, so don't expect it to be done in a hurry as quality work takes time. There were chips in the upper middle of the painting and tiny chips missing in quite a bit of other spots all over the entire piece. He was able to reduce a small fraction of the warping (on the left side) and he conditioned it and repaired the chips in the sky and other smaller paint chipped areas. I am very satisfied with the end result of the repair he made on this 1950's original oil painting of Laguna Beach, CA. Now I can proudly hang it on my wall! Thank you David, you're the best.

His little workshop looks like something out of a storybook - a flower-covered cottage where broken things go to be reborn. My most treasured possession, an ostrich egg my late father brought home from Africa when I was a kid, was shattered into what felt like a billion pieces during my recent move. I thought it was gone forever. I was a devastated wreck on the pavement in front of all my neighbors. But David, with the steady hands of an artist and the heart of a healer, pieced it back together so flawlessly, you'd never know it had been broken. If you have something priceless - whether it's an heirloom, a keepsake or a fragment of your past - don't give up on it. Bring it here. He doesn't fix objects; he brings them back to life and restores memories. I'll never be able to thank him enough.

Elisa at Kept Art Restoration is a miracle worker…read more A few weeks after just purchasing a new piece of art, someone in a fit of rage sliced it up with a kitchen knife. The damage was extensive - an 8" Gash, and 3 other 1" punctures. We were both heartbroken as we loved the piece and what it meant to us (it was a 3'x3' acrylic on canvas painting). The Canvas was shreaded, with threads hanging and cracks in the paint. I found Kept via a google search, contacted them and Elisa came over and said it could be repaired. Her communications were excellent. She communicated with the original artist to get the background on the painting, talked to us about restoration ethics (much more complex than we would have imagined) and went to work. The repair took a few months, but well worth the wait. The painting has been restored, and it now once again hangs in our home. To say we are amazed is an understatement. While if you look carefully you can see signs of the repair (you REALLY have to look hard, and at an obtuse angle that catches reflected light) it is unbelievable how good it looks. Elisa took care to make sure it nearly exactly matches what the original artist - while maintaining the ethics of her craft. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend her for repair and restoration.

Many of these are family…read moreworks of tremendous sentimental value, and some are by southwest artists and may be of some significant value to the right collector. Most pieces had been exposed to cigarette smoke and cleaning / waxing care typical of the mid 20th century. As I sorted through it all, it became clear that I needed professional cleaning and restoration. Elisa Stewart of Kept Art Restoration came to the rescue. to date she has cleaned restored and stabilized three oil paintings on canvas, and a small piece directly on wood. all of the results have far and away exceeded my wildest expectations. Elisa takes meticulous records of every step of the restoration. The report, with photos, accompanies each piece, along with all original materials, from, hardware, documentation. In the case of the canvas pictured, she did an amazing job of peeling back the layers of time and revealing the vibrant colors beneath. She also discovered the date accompanying the signature, that had been covered by my grandmother or my great grandmother (vanity!) In addition to restoring the image, her care and skill in repairing small holes in the canvas was flawless. In the end, we have a lasting portrait of my grandmother as a young woman that we can pass on to the next generation. On pieces where restoration or retouching is necessary, Elisa is extremely careful, and approaches the job with high ethical standards. The retouching has been invisible to my eye, and yet, is performed in such a way as to be completely reversible if a future owner/restorer so desires. She can tell you the details of the process. Proper art cleaning and restoration takes time, and is costly. But the results are all that matter, and I have been very happy with the results and the value of Elisa's work. I look forward to working with her for years to come.

Robert, the owner, is an accomplished artist and highly trained art restorer. His oil painting of the boardwalk is featured on his River Street Gallery web site. He has patience and an eye for detail as I observed watching him recently restore a heavily damaged 19th c Russian oil painting. He brings his excellent expertise to every project. And best of all, his prices seem to be always below the estimated cost of other frame shops. He custom cuts mats and offers well priced frames. ..often 1/3-less or more the price of nearby Lenz. Robert has framed a number of art pieces/ diplomas etc for us. He easily replaced the water stained linen around one of our oil painting keeping the original frame and painting in good condition...reducing costs. He recently framed a Whistler Pencil Sketch for me that had the documentation and stamp on the back. He picked out a narrow mahogany rich frame for the sketch and framed the back with a veneer of bamboo to not over power the pencil documentation. He has excellent taste and seems to enjoy discussing ideas on framing for each subject you bring in. He has a wide range of frame prices and choices.carrying beautiful frames imported from Italy not available in other shops. He found the perfect mat and frame for a lavender tinted CPA diploma..not easy! His shop is conveniently located just a block from Costco on a small side street called Post . It might be a good idea to check hours or call first.
