Mulberries

We bought 7 different varietals from Alex several years ago, and those fruit trees have flourished over the years. I was specifically interested in the fruit trees that are native to India, viz. mango, fig, mulberry, custard apple (Sitaphal), etc. Apparently Alex's parents went to India in the 1960s, brought back plants, acclimated them to the Southern California climate, and still have them to sell to customers like me. I bought some of these, and they've been growing wonderfully, bearing lots of tasty fruit every year.

We found this gem of a nursery while looking for a papaya tree this past weekend. Located in a residential area in the north San Fernando valley, we were so surprised when we were ushered into the backyard which was meticulously organized into a beautiful nursery of tropical fruit trees. The owner, Alex, was very knowledgeable as was his father David. They claim they graft their own trees finding the sweetest strains and matching them up with hardy root stock so you get superior performance out of the plants. Open 7 days a week and easy to get to, prepare to spend a little time here and get ready to learn some stuff!!! Big thanks to Alex for all the education and genuine care and consideration for us. Will definitely be going back to snag a star fruit soon.

Over the last few years I've bought over twenty trees from Alex at papaya tree nursery. I have to say, the grand majority of them are doing great. The trees at papaya tree nursery are loved and nurtured from day 1, and the care instructions and ongoing advice from Alex keeps them alive and thriving. I appreciate Alex's enthusiasm for rare fruit very much, and I feel like I've found somebody that I can share this healthy obsession with! I highly recommend you go visit papaya tree nursery. I'm sure you'll see (and maybe eat!) some fruits you've never heard of. Highly recommended!

5 gal Pakistani red mulberry tree

Alex was incredibly knowledgeable about all the different types of trees he has available. He gave us a tour of the nursery, which was impressive for its size and location in a residential neighborhood. Alex was able to give us advice regarding planting, sun exposure, and care for the Pakistani red mulberry tree that we bought and even other trees that we were interested in. This helped relieve our nervousness and made us feel more confident in properly caring of the new tree and other established trees. Looking forward to this mulberry tree's growth and hopefully other trees as well!

A large cherimoya tree in the nursery. So cool

This nursery is like Heaven in the Valley. We just had to call in advance to schedule an appointment time. This is great because you get the nursery all to yourself for that time. The owner, Alex, is the nicest, most welcoming guy ever and answered all our questions about all the different and unique fruit trees. It's obvious that he's passionate about botany and knows a lot about it. He even surprised us with his homemade lucuma ice cream after my mom mentioned it's her favorite fruit! We bought cherimoya and aprium (apricot plum) trees and can't wait to see them grow. The prices are great and I look forward to buying more fruit trees from here soon! There were so many interesting fruits that I had never seen before. Thank you!

We removed our front lawn and decided to create our own landscape design, and Ryan's recommendations and suggestions throughout the process were invaluable. They did not just drop them in the ground and tell me to water, they took the time to explain exactly how and when to water so I would feel confident in caring for them. Thanks to Ryan and his team, I feel set up for success and could not be happier with the experience.

I found via Yelp that Paradise Nursery had an array of different types of citrus trees along with other fruit trees that I was interested in. The yellow brick road led us to a very busy free and down to the outskirts of Chatsworth. The exit from the freeway was easy and it took us straight to the nursery. I drove into the parking area and got out into the hot sun!! Citrus trees everywhere!!! It was quiet...strange. I thought there would have been more folks roaming the nursery. Guess what I found out that day as the owner (Shawn) was walking towards us. They were closed and I was trespassing (kidding!) he was nice enough to allow us to stay and find what we wanted to purchase. I felt bad. And also embarrassed at the same time. But here we are. Sixty miles away from home and all I wanted were the lemon trees. Shawn told us we can roam around and see if there was anything on his lot we would like to purchase. After a few minutes of checking out the citrus trees, my older sister wanted to see if there were other "species" of lemons. Lo and behold, she found the Buddha's' Hands and was adamant about bringing one home. Of course I couldn't say no to her so we got a 5-gallon one which had two fruits bearing the stem and then I found a mini Myer lemons and decided to bring both home. The trees came to the total of $118.00 and I cannot be any happier than to have forced my way into Shawn's nursery that day. He was a good sport and answered all the questions I had regarding taking my new plant babies home. Please note the nursery is closed Sunday and Monday. They also do delivery of your purchase to your home or office. I will be stopping by again and I promise this time, it won't be on Sunday!!
