REVIEW BASED ON THEIR SEASONAL STEAK STAKE FRIES! When visiting Knotts, I was trying to explore their seasonal Scary Farm Menu, so when I visited this location, I wanted to try their steak stake fries! The line was quite long, so it took about 30 minutes before I could order. Luckily they give you a buzzer so that you can walk around, or search for a seat while you wait. When my buzzer finally rang, I went up to the window and grabbed my box of fries. They had a condiment bar on the side, so I grabbed some ketchup because it looked kind of light on toppings. The steak that topped my fries, tasted more like ground beef, and the sauce was a kind of weird flavor that was just not it. I felt that the steak cut potatoes were also a bit dry, so I was glad I got some ketchup. Overall, I was not happy with the meal, and had much regrets ordering this instead of trying another seasonal menu item!
Considering this is an amusement park and not a taco shop; I'm truly shocked at how good their carne asada fries are! They had a special asada fries during scary farm which was also delicious sadly forgot to snap a pic lol. Haven't tried their other fry options but seriously the carne asada fries here THE BOMB
For being amusement park food and not from a taco shop I gotta say their Carne Asada Fries are actually pretty fire. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of their Carne Asada Fries, but they come with a good amount of meat and toppings, even the guacamole. It's definitely one of my favorite things to get on the Knott's meal plan. For seating they have some outdoor tables nearby or you can go inside to eat by Casa California. Lines can get long here, especially on busy days so just be prepared for that.
We go to Knott's Berry Farm a lot. We love thrill rides and Knott's has a few great coasters. Plus it's close to FIL's house. Of course that means we have to eat at the park sometimes. Today we tried Papas Mexicanas in Fiesta Village. This place is basically French fries (shoe string, curly, or sweet potato) topped with various combinations of Mexican food. We got the carnitas fries and the carne asada fries. No. Thank. You. I did not like this place at all. Not even a little bit. The fries tasted like they were cooked in oil that should have been changed out a week ago. They were topped with a little carne asada that was just okay, a scoop of guacamole (that was pretty good), a scoop of sour cream, and shredded cheddar. There was absolutely no salsa or hot sauce, so the fries were incredibly dry, and the taste of old oil and sour cream was pretty all it tasted like. I ended up picking out the meat and throwing the rest out. The carnitas fries were slightly better, but that taste of the fries came through in those, too. We have had some pretty good food at Knott's (e.g. Fireman's BBQ and Ghost Town Grill), but this place isn't one of them. I will definitely pass on this place next time.
This is.. typical amusement park food. There were some photos on Yelp which showed actual big steak pieces but what I got from the carne asada is almost like burger meat beef and not steak. I opted for the dining pass so the prices are different (it was charged $12.97). The menu prices for the carne asada fries showed $14.75. I thought the fries were just okay, nothing amazing and nothing like the local carne asada fries you would get at a Mexican restaurant.
Well first time trying the papas mexicanas at the new renovation spot here at knotts. Way more cashiers open with some wait after your order is placed. But wow it's really good, in my opinion. Today we didn't want to ruin dinner so we only had one order. Very yummy and satisfying
Now I see why they get low ratings. The order fulfillment is bleh. Toppings are so sparingly given. Sad! Although it has good flavor but the presentation, portion size, skimpy toppings, I do not recommend unless you have an undying craving for carne asada fries! Do not visit this place. Go to Casa California instead. They're not as bad with skimping. It's expected now that we pay double price for less than the expected portions and less quality ingredients. Choose wisely every dollar you spend! Service was eh. You know why? Look at the outcome of what's delivered. Speaks for itself. Service wasn't bad but it isn't positive either. Now that I've tried it, NEXT!
Good food and good service. Portions are not big though. We tried the carnitas fries and the seasonal steak stake fries. We also got the hot chocolate which is pretty much hot water with the scent of packaged hot chocolate. Seating are all outdoors. We got the season meal / dining plan. When you use it, all the receipts will say $7.50 but you don't need to pay for anything. Worth it only if you go often.
Eh. I got the Chili Cheese Fries for $13.00. While the portion size was decent, the quality didn't reflect the price. I rarely waste food, but I disliked them so much that I couldn't finish. Decent portion size. On the bright side, the customer service was excellent, and there was plenty of outdoor seating available. Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing.
O M G the Lemon Butter Garlic Shrimp is SOOOOO good. Ordered it with Shoestring fries (which are the same size as McDs, but better). Literally smothered in Parmesan Cheese. Make sure to mix it around well, it tastes and eats MUCH better. There are no tables around, BUT there is inside and outside seating not far away. On this day, it was hot, so I went inside with the AC going full blast. This is a Summer Night's Taste Card special and it definitely special. The service was okay as the backend forgot my order and about 5 ppl behind me received their food before I did, but oh well, stuff happens. Highly recommend this dish. Happy Eating and Fight On!
This doesn't look like much, but it fed two people easily. Everything was super flavorful and hot and if you have the food pass, it's so worth the extra two dollars. I do wish they had a dessert option like churros or ice cream, but this is a really great spot for quality and quantity! Service was quick and workers are friendly.
I just realized this place moved locations and they stepped up their game with the fries, but there's still something a miss. It's like they have all the right ingredients but somethings missing or it's almost a 5 star place/concept. Since they moved I've tried the chicken tinga fries, a side of yucca fries and their a la Diabla fries. They're above mid, but it's so frustrating because it's almost there. I recommend the Yucca fries over any of the other fries. They're thicker, tastier and don't get soggy from all the toppings. I ordered the a la Diabla fries today and the advertisement says it comes with Yucca fries, but when I got my order it came with seasoned fries. It was above mid with with the seasoned fries, and the corn just worked really well with the fries, but I know the Yucca fries would've been WAY better! Also the a la Diabla fries area basically the shrimp from Panda Express, the cilantro lime rice from Chipotle (even though this rice had no sign of cilantro in them), some not so spicy crema sauce and corn. The chicken tinga is SPICY so be prepared with some water or soda on hand. It's a good snack that will hold you over for a while, but won't make you feel too full or tired. The line is hit or miss. If most people have a Knott's dining plan then it will move fast but if people are paying with card then it tends to move a bit slower. Overall still a solid place to get a good meal/snack.

Love the fries, and I also love all the new flavors they've been coming out with. They recently changed the Sidewinder fries to waffle fries, and I'm not sure if I'd call that a good or bad change yet, but I do love some waffle fries! As always, the lines here can get pretty long, but they usually move along pretty quickly as long as there aren't any mishaps or equipment malfunctions. Overall, still a solid spot for fries, especially if you like trying their seasonal offerings.. if not, they do have standard fries too. read more
Papas Mexicanas is located in The Fiesta Village at Knott's Berry Farm on the side closest to Silver Bullet and Supreme Scream. My family actually frequents this food vendor whenever we visit. Lines can get long so we always try to go outside of the food rush-hour. What we've ordered: 1) Carne asada over shoestring fries - served with cheese, sour cream, guacamole. Carne asada isn't bad but it's not my favorite protein here. 2) Carnitas chili verde over shoestring fries - I ask for the fries to be crispy when I order this one as it can get soggy due to the juices/sauce of the carnitas. Served with pico de gallo and sour cream. The kids and I love this one. 3) Cotija Garlic Butter shoestring fries - this one by far is my favorite. It is served with two types of cheese as well as garlic butter. It doesn't come with a protein, so I go to Casa California right across the way and buy some carnitas. The carnitas from Casa California are SO good. Like actually SO GOOD. Do this. You'll thank me later. I have yet to try the elote and chili cheese fries or even the sweet potato fries but I will soon. Portions are a bit deceiving as the box is small but it is really packed and we can never finish the entire box in one sitting. This place offers the usual fountain beverages but also carries beer, chelada, margarita, hot coffee and hot chocolate. Seating is all outdoor as this place is an order and pickup kind of service. Staff is on and off here. Some are pretty darn crabby. We had one young lady who's name starts with an A, give one of my teens huge attitude when they tried to ask for the fries to be cooked crispy with pico de gallo on the side. She flat out said that couldn't be done and rolled her eyes at them. This was false. Fries could be cooked crispy and salsa on the side. We always order our food this way. Every other worker did this and receipts would even show that request. Every time we see "A" there, we just hope and keep our fingers crossed that we don't get her again. Other than that, we love dining at Papas Mexicanas and eat there for almost every meal at every visit. It's definitely a staple for this family. Make sure to mix the food before you dig in. This is our one go to place to eat every visit at Knott's Berry Farm. Service is always friendly and helpful, while the portions remain consistently large enough to feed 2-3 people in our family. I know I should eventually branch out to try other eateries, but this place is by far our favorite, we will back track through the park at lunch time to hit this place up. Try their carne asada loaded fries with either the sidewinder or sweet potato fries, bomb! Highly recommended! Shout to Vanessa today for her excellent service! :) read more

I thought this was one of the highlights of our Knotts merry farm food tasting. We got the tamale fries, which are part of the meal plan and they were really good. Basically a tamale dumped on top of fries, but the fries were nice and crispy and the tamale had a great flavor. Would definitely get it again and I want to try all of their other options. read more

Food (4/5 stars): The Carne Asada Fries definitely exceed my expectations for theme park food. They serve heaping amounts of sour cream, guacamole, and cheese on top of a decent portion of fries. But they skimped on the carne asada. I also wish they melted the cheese more. It's still better than most overpriced theme park food options though! Experience (4/5 stars): * Price: it's expensive compared to Carne Asada Fries outside of the theme park, but $12 is pretty reasonable inside the park. * Wait Time: terrible during Saturday lunch! Just A-ok! Was it anything special? Not really Would I eat at this place again? Yes, because I love french fries haha Two of us had Dining Plans and ordered Elote Fries as well as a their seasonal offering Sweet Potato Fries (with turkey, marshmallows, gravy). The fries themselves were good! They were fresh, slightly crispy, and had a nice flavor. The flavors of the actual dishes were interesting. The Elote Fries tasted just as expected. There was a lot of corn on them and the corn tasted canned. The sweet potato fries alone were pretty good. It was the topping that left me a little confused. Separately, the toppings worked. But all together, I just wasn't sure. The sweet potatoe fries with the marshmallows tasted good. The sweet potato fries with the turkey and gravy was good. But altogether? Ehhhh. Did that stop me from eating them? Oh absolutely not. I still ate them but definitely thought the Elote Fries were better. Next time, I will order Carne Asada Fries or Chili Cheese Fries as most reviewers speak more highly of these than the ones I ordered! read more
Horrible horrible horrible. I waited 20+ minutes for COLD chili cheese fries. They were honestly the worst chili cheese fries I have had in a long time. They have different types of fries depending on the season. I was excited for this "French fry stand", but turned out it was cold and gross. I wasted $10 on mediocre fries. I only ate about 20% of it and the rest is garbage. Cold food is gross when it's supposed to be warm. I thought i was being safe going with fries turns out I was wrong. I won't return. read more

If you're going to close more than 40 minutes early please post a sign. Decided to stop and have one last meal and stopped at this place. To say the least they closed the window while we were in line and didn't bother letting us know you guys were closing. Wow rude to say the least! So if you're going to close early please make a sign. Very disappointed in the service and lack of communication. read more
We were very impressed with the Elote Fries at La Papa Loca. Large enough to feed three for a good snack but honestly I could of devoured it myself if I wanted to. We added a side of guacamole which was surprisingly a very good choice and went well with the cojito cheese, corn and Mayo-sour cream mixture. They also offer fries with other various toppings and styles, including carne asada, Cubano fries, nacho cheese, waffle fries, and chili cheese fries. They are located across from WaveSwinger in Fiesta Village. read more

One of my favorite spots at Knotts. Their fries are amazing. So far, I've tried the carne asada fries and Elote fries & they are both so delicious. Next on my list is definitely the chili cheese fries. Love it here! P.s. they don't serve beer here, (the beer in my picture is from the outdoor beer nearby, which is super convenient) read more

Not impressed. Small single portions and they don't give you salsa unless you ask for it and when you do the girl acted very bothered and let it sit on the cashier counter in front of me for a while before handing it to me. The guy that put it on the counter for her to give to me could've given it to me but he placed it in front of the register and looked straight at me and stood there. He told her it was ready and she walked away and she also looked at me. Food itself was bland but the salsa made it better, almost restaurant quality from outside the park. read more

I know it is just fries... but, they were super good! -I didn't get sick (as noted by other Yelpers). -My fries were super hot, fresh out of the fryer. -The combination of toppings on each type of fries we got were pretty tasty. -They gave a lot of fries. In fact, I couldn't finish mine. I got full. I think that the only two issues I had with the place was caused by the length of time it took for the order to be completed, and because they were pretty expensive. Two orders of fries and a drink was over $30. I guess I can't complain about that. Everything at Knott's is overpriced. :-( read more

Get the chili cheese fries!!!! They're so filling and the cheapest ones. Add sour cream on the side it'll make it better. Don't get the bacon cheese fries. read more
--LOCATION-- In Fiesta Village of Knott's Berry Farm. It's a much smaller food location than the Cantina, with only 3 service windows. --FOOD-- Friggin' Expensive af. Carne Asada Fries ($9.29): $10.03 after tax. Fries topped with steak, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Steak is dry. Fries are fine. Guacamole wasn't too bad, actually. Fries are frozen and then fried. Add condiments like ranch sauce and jalapenos are extra (and a rip off). --SERVICE-- Everyone is incredibly slow. You pay for your food and wait for it to come out before the next person in line can order. My WAIT time in line was ONE HOUR, which was absolutely ridiculous. I don't know why we didn't leave. --MISC-- Forks, napkins, and ketchup are on the side of the building. (Ketchup may be out and not yet refilled.) read more

All day dining pass stop #4. Going (getting) big before heading home. Carne asada fries with no sour cream, subbed with double guacamole. The fries were crispy to the very last bite. But all the other components were meh. The scarce cheese was sprinkled on top and barely melted. The guacamole tasted really icy. The carne asada pieces were cold and tough. Probably should have gotten the chili and cheese fries instead. read more

Berry Festival themed fries looked like vomit. The sweet potato boysenberry chicken fries sucked. They gave a severely small amount of food. It looked poooooorly put together even for theme park food and was flooded with sauce. Legitimately looked like a giant cats vomit. Employees claimed it was supposed to look like that . read more
Omg I love garlic fries. BUT these were not even close to what I was hoping for. $8-something for a thing of fries. The amount of fries is good, its a box full. But once you eat a few bites you get to see that your box of fries is actually a box with a huge pool of oil in it. And it's SO MUCH OIL/GREASE. Im talking like, an inch or two deep. So, good luck finishing your fries after seeing them swim in the oil. And don't pay the $1.50 for a "side of ranch." Its literally a packet of Ranch dressing. read more
~Nacho Fries! Nacho Fries! Nacho Fries!~ ~~~Get The Nacho Fries!!~~~ Oh crap, my next review awaits... I totally forgot to give this joint my 4-stars for giving us the most Bang for our Bucks! After all night of running around screaming, laughing, and almost crying...we chickie poos got Hangry (*urban dict). We walked around quite a bit to grab something decent to eat that was going to leave us both temporarily satisfied. Amusement park food, IMO, is expensive for what they provide -mediocre to meh, bites. We weren't ready to leave yet, having so much fun -even burning calories, lol. Potatoes and you can add meat for around $10?! Sure it's greasy but hey, it calmed down our growling tummies, at least until we were ready to leave for REAL food. Pretty good size portion too. One of my biggest pet peeve's spending too much and NOT being satisfied. Next time I'm at Knott's, faced with the same dilemma, I'll remember to stop on by La Papa Loca's. read more
