The Bensonhurst
Kevin E.

I was in the mood for an Italian sandwich and remembered my coworker telling me about this place so I decided to give it a try for lunch! After perusing their extensive sandwich menu, I was torn between getting either the Bensonhurst or the Tommy Casale but ultimately decided on the Bensonhurst as a way of paying homage to the wonderful neighborhood that I grew up in. The Bensonhurst comes with prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted peppers, and balsamic vinegar, all of my favorite Italian sandwich ingredients. The ingredients are all on the saltier side but the bread balances them out. It's $12 for a sandwich but it's huge and can definitely be split into two meals so it's not too bad. It's quite a trek from my house but I think it's worth it and I'll definitely be back if I'm ever in the mood again for their sandwiches!

I really like this place, the guys behind the counter Dominick and John are good people. I drove over an hour to get here on a Sunday morning from Long Island and it was well worth it. The freshest ravioli and so many different types. Pesto, Cheese, Sausage and peppers, Pumpkin, Mushroom, just to name a few. They are also known for all their over stuffed sandwiches named after locations in Brooklyn. Great homemade fresh mozzarella, and their homemade marinara sauce is one of the best i've had any where. Don't walk, run! It's amazing how the prices are about half of what you pay on the island for food that is 5 times better than what's on long island. I am a regular now and will go back every 2 or 3 weeks. Ciao

On my way to pick up lioni's sandwiches, I stopped by because I read so much Yelp reviews that rave about their ravioli's. I got the fresh unfrozen cheese ones, fresh penne pasta and a pint of their homemade vodka sauce. They have tons of other flavor ravioli that are frozen like lobster, meat, veggies. After cooking all the ingredients at home I have to say give 5 stars for the cheese ravioli, they were so soft, flavorful and full of cheese. The vodka sauce was kind of light for me, but the fresh penne were delicious and al dente. If your in the mood for raviolis, check this place out, you won't be sorry!

Great sandwiches, reasonably priced, good old Brooklyn attitude and service. Can't be beat.

Bravo to Brooklyn Pasta Bar for getting one fundamental thing right: the pasta arrives properly…read moretossed in sauce, not theatrically naked with a dollop parked in the middle for you to perform table-side acrobatics. That alone signals someone in the kitchen knows what they're doing. I tried the Rigatoni Sunday Sauce -- rigatoni tossed in a bright, tomato-forward sauce with sliced sausage, eggplant, a meatball, and a cheesy breadstick -- and it mostly delivered. The sauce is lively and fresh-tasting, clearly "today's sauce" rather than something resurrected from yesterday's pot. Tomatoes sing, the acidity is balanced, and the simmered depth is there without feeling overworked. It could have used a whisper more salt for punch, but that's an easy fix at the table with Pecorino Romano; I added some at home and it snapped into perfect focus. The meatball was flavorful but a touch dry -- breadcrumbs are doing the structural work, and a milk-soaked stale bread technique would have kept it juicier without losing character. Sausage and eggplant were solid partners, and the cheesy breadstick was dangerously good (eat it slowly unless you want to be judged by your tablemates). If I could award half stars, this gets a 4.5. Smart execution, honest flavors, and a few small technical tweaks away from greatness. Highly recommend giving them a try -- especially if you, like me, believe that pasta should arrive ready to eat, not ready for a culinary trust exercise.

There's no seating available, and only one person was working despite a line out the door. He seemed overloaded, but to his credit, he was very friendly and had a great attitude. I might give this place another shot.

The food is out of this world, it truly tastes like home made food, the flavoring of every dish is superb. There is not one item on the menu that I don't like. They have the best vodka sauce in the world and their consistency is fantastic. I've eaten here over 15 times already and each time is as good as the last. The portion sizes are huge so you can absolutely share a pasta dish. I strongly recommend doing the following. Get their espresso martini it's truly amazing, for the appetizer do the clams, get the SPAGHETTI ALL'AMATRICIANA, with the calis chicken Parm. For dessert either get the Italian cheesecake or bread pudding with a cappuccino. The servers and staff are incredible. Every night we go they are so friendly, personal and give great recommendations. They always thank you for coming to their restaurant, the owner who's the head chef, is the nicest guy in the world, every-time we eat there he asks us how the food tastes. It's a beautiful cozy restaurant with artwork of Brooklyn and Italian imagery just a great ambiance of the restaurant. I strongly recommend this place, it's a true gem and a must on anybody's list of places to eat at.

For entrees we had the Deconstructed Beef Wellington, Miso Glazed and sesame crusted Halibut, with a side of Truffle Cauliflower Mash Potatoes. For desert we had the Peanut Butter Cup and the Apple Cider Zeppoli. Everything was presented well, tasted great and had the perfect temperature. From the moment we arrived, the service was flawless -- warm, incredibly attentive, and perfectly paced. The refreshments were so great for a celebration. The Cocktails: Expertly crafted and sophisticated. It was refreshing to have drinks that were perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The coffee was served alongside dessert, it was rich and the perfect finishing touch to a wonderful meal. While the Filet Mignon was a popular and well loved choice among our group, and the Meatballs were universally raved about for being truly excellent, the real showstopper for me was the Chicken Parmesan. I don't typically order steak, so I was delighted by this choice. The cutlet was impressively sized yet elegantly thin, showcasing the high quality of the chicken. It was served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes, which was such a comforting and delicious pairing. It did remind me of visiting Germany believe it or not like a schnitzel style cutlet but still very italian if that makes any sense. If you visit, you simply cannot miss the fried eggplant appetizer with burrata. It is divine!
