The Black Duck is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant and bar in Issaquah. I can vouch for the…read moremushroom burger and the duck pizza, as well as some of the whiskey cocktails. The burger is thick and really juicy, great bun and aioli. The fries are perfectly crispy. The pizza had a really great, I'm assuming wood-fired, crust. The duck was tender and sweet and there was a lot of arugula. It's a sparser craft pizza, which is just so delicious when you are looking for something a little heavy but not over the top. While they boast about their craft beer offerings, they have a great cocktail list as well, and I love that they have a specific whiskey cocktail section as well, with a few that are less common at some bars. The Brooklyn is probably my favorite, but you can't really go wrong. Also, a fellow patron asked for a Toronto and the bartender was happy to look it up and make it for him. And what about the atmosphere here?! It's so wonderful in summer! With its narrow design giving a sense that an entire wall opens to the outside and the patio that extends beyond, it feels Ike you are vacationing somewhere tropical and beachy. This somehow combines really well with the industrial vibe of the interior. They also have some TV's for sports. The service is very friendly, attentive, interactive, and helpful. One thing that was consistent across my three visits, however, was the feeling that the place is always understaffed, so things tend to move slowly. I'm not sure this is the case, it's just the feel you get when it happens the times you visit. This is a bit of a double-edged sword though, since it's such an easy place to just want to sip and nibble slowly while delving into conversation. So, that's not enough to detract a star for now, and honestly I'm already thinking about when I get to eat here again!

The beer selection and cocktail choice is awesome. Loved the stock manhattan cocktail. My wife enjoyed the Snap Dragon cocktail, nice use of tequila on this drink. Kinda busy for a Friday night, but got a table right away. Nice buzz in the place, mild rumble to the room.

Math is hard, but…read moreFlying Pie is awesome. If finding a legitimately great slice of pizza in Western Washington feels like trying to find a restaurant that doesn't give you food poisoning in a notoriously sketchy travel-advisory zone, you're not alone. The search is exhausting. Enter Flying Pie Pizza in Issaquah, which swoops in like a pepperoni-laden hero to save you . I've been here a few times now Here is my breakdown of the Good, the Bad, and the Quirky : The Good: * The Pie: Hands down one of the absolute best pizzas in the region. Their dough and sauce are homemade and made fresh daily, and you can honestly taste the difference. * The Vibe & Staff: The staff is wonderfully friendly. Plus, they have coloring pages and crayons for the kids and proudly display the masterpieces created by these little local artisans on the walls. * Retro Entertainment: By the soda machine is an old-time pinball machine. Head to the back and you will find classic 80s arcade games. (Just try not to lose your quarters before your pizza arrives). The Bad: * The Wallet Factor: It's a bit pricier than your average chain, but the quality easily justifies the extra few bucks. * The DIY Setup: You seat yourself, grab your own plates, and bus your own table. Think of it as burning off those incoming pizza calories in advance. * Service Style: The staff can sometimes be hanging out in the back, meaning they aren't always front-and-center. The silver lining? If you need something, they don't get annoyed at all if you just cheerfully yell out to get their attention. The Ugly (Or Weird): * The Ghost Bar: There is a very nice-looking bar in the back, but it is completely unmanned (they only use it to process alcohol requests). It's like a phantom watering hole. * The Bathroom Obstacle Course: Directly behind this ghost bar is a clothing rack with shirts for sale, which conveniently obstructs your view of the bathroom door. Consider it a fun little scavenger hunt after two slices of heavy-duty pie and a drink refill Final Verdict: Skip the culinary roulette elsewhere and hit up Flying Pie. Just watch out for the shirt rack on your way to the restroom!

We were grateful that they granted our requests for no onion and pineapple on half. I didn't see a different way to add and subtract toppings for modification on the ordering page. The pizza was really good, flavorful and a pretty good texture. It is denser than NY style but not thick like Chicago Style. The sauce had strong tones of herbs and garlic, there was vibrant fennel in the thick satisfying sausage chunks, and the crust was strong with butter and garlic. It was very satisfying. While I don't feel like I would want this all the time, I can imagine getting the hankering for it every couple months. Good stuff!

They ordered the pizzas and brought them over to share at my gran's house once we arrived from the airport. According to my relatives, this location does not have seating - you order and takeout your food. It's in a plaza with other businesses and that evening, they said it was easy to find parking to grab the pizzas then head over to my gran's without much delay. The pizzas they ordered were the Frankie's Special, a Meat Si, and a gluten free crust pizza for one of my aunts. Between the 7 of us, there were plenty of slices to go around and enough for leftovers. They did not skimp on toppings - every slice was loaded with the toppings listed for each type. I would say for the Meat Si that it is a little rich, but you are consuming a pizza with a variety of meats. The pizzas were pretty filling - I consumed three smaller slices and was full.
