Did done-in this time with the long weekend since they were open. The vibe is very much Hong Kong cafe, with a lot of self serve stuff but still super friendly staff. Their buns are good as always and made fresh (can even match them making it in the window). I got the baked pork chop rice with hot milk tea and the pineapple bun this time. The portion for the baked pork chop was really good, with a good balance of meat, sauce, and rice. The pineapple bun was fresh and crunchy as expected and the hot milk tea always hits the spot. We were craving for some HK style milk tea while vacationing in Toronto/Mississauga and stumbled upon this place and boy it did not disappoint. The place has a good amount of seating. You order in the front and they bring the food to you. They have some pretty unique bolo bao (pineapple bun). We got the bolognese & satay beef bolo bao and they are massive! So make sure you're hungry if you get it. The pineapple buns are soft and delicious, the bolognese & satay beef are a bit salty but still good. But I have to say the star of this place is their HK milk tea. It's smooth & not bitter at all. The plus side is you can add your own sugar. Love it here! Recently found this Mississauga hidden gem after a friend recommended it and I am definitely hooked! What I REALLY wanted for the road was an ice cold HK-style milk tea, so a quick search led me here and it DID NOT disappoint. And so, my visit was as straightforward as that. I got there near closing time thinking I would be out of luck but they still had a good selection. The Pineapple bun is the best I have had in a long time if not ever. I thought that I'd update my review since I just came back from Papa John's with some takeout buns. I haven't been here in years 'cause it's just not in my 'hood! What separates Papa John's from other HK bakeries in the City - there aren't many left - is that there's dine-in with HK diner dishes. And it seems as though they've expanded their seating since my last visit. When you enter, along the left side, there used to be all the covered trays with all their buns displayed. However, it seems like all their baked goods are now displayed BEHIND the counter. Probably to prevent cross contamination. Prices/varieties are posted on the counter in front of the cashier. I got: Coconut Creme Bun, Red Bean Pineapple Bun, Egg Tarts, a slice of Earl Gray Cake - looked like some kinda mousse cake, & an HK Milk Tea. I haven't tried the cake, but out of everything, the Pineapple Bun really stood out! I'm guessing this is probably their most popular item! Everything else was OK, but their Pineapple Bun was the best out of the bunch! Egg tarts are $1.80ea, while the buns were ~$2ea. Like other reviewers have mentioned, egg tarts are standard sized, but their buns are HUGE. Definitely 1/2 is about good enough for me! So my advice would be to grab a few and share them amongst family/friends. Quite a few people were dining in when I stopped by on a Saturday late AM! P.S. It's located in a small plaza and doesn't have fancy decorations, and only has one staff working the cashier. I first found them when using the "Too Good to Go" app, and originally thought they only sold buns or cakes. I've tried their pineapple buns before, which are huge and delicious. Meanwhile, they also serve meals. This time we went for lunch and ordered the HK signature dishes: French Toast, beef macaroni and curry beef brisket rice. The French Toast is filled with peanut butter and served with butter and syrup. It may sound heavy, but it tastes great and you won't be able to stop eating it. The beef macaroni and curry beef brisket both come with a lot of beef. Hong Kong-style curry isn't spicy, but I think the sauce is quite light and a bit watery. Lastly, all meals come with a drink. I chose my favorite Hong Kong-style milk tea. They also have HK-style baked rice and all-day breakfast options. I would say they are very reasonably priced and one of the best spots in Sauga. Pineapple Bun 5/5 - really enjoyed the cookie crust on top as it had the right amount of sweetness, a very nice crumble and right thickness. Not overly dry either, and paired nicely with the soft pillowy bun. Bun was even soft after reheating in the oven the next days. Flavours reminiscent of HK. Sausage Bun 4.5/5 - had this one fresh out of the oven! Again, bun was softer than the pineapple bun, and the sausage was generous in portion. Even when it cooled down, it actually tasted even nicer as the dough set well and it had a nice texture. Sausage flavours were well balanced. Egg Tart 5/5 - this was also taken straight from the oven and so I had to order one! Egg custard had the right amount of sweetness and egg flavour notes. Very smooth in texture and set perfectly (not overly runny or hard). Even after it cooled completely and let it set for a few hours, the buttery flakey tart base was buttery but not overpowering. Texture was perfectly flakey and soft without it breaking apart. BBQ Pork Bun 4/5 - a mark deducted because half of the bun didnt have any filling, albeit the portion that did was well filled. BBQ pork was nicely seasoned, on the sweeter side but I enjoy that. Umami soy notes to the pork, pairing nicely with their bun base. I hope next time when I come back to Sauge I'll be able to come back again for their freshly baked goods AND even sit down and dine in. Happy I decided to drive over and get their buns! read more

After the very disappointing tiramisu cake two weeks ago, I immediately called to switch my birthday cake to a cream based cake (Papa John's does cream cakes surprisingly well). I've been looking for a good Hong Kong style cha chaan teng (café) in the Mississauga area and I think this is the closest I've come so far. I love a fresh boh loh bao (pineapple bun) and a hot lai cha (milk tea). That's exactly what I ordered here and I was not disappointed! The pineapple bun had a sweet, crumbly, crunchy crust with a soft, fluffy inside. Hong Kong style milk tea is not as simple as tea and milk. It has its own unique taste and texture and they do a great job of it here! It has a good tea flavour, it's creamy and sweet but not too rich and overly sweet. The café itself is very casual and reminiscent of the one's in Hong Kong where the furniture and decor is chosen for practicality rather than design. The buns are a little more expensive than other HK style cafés but also a little bigger in size. I tried a curry bun as well and it had generous amount of filling. Finally found an amazing Hong Kong Bakery that is right around the corner from where I am! At first glance, the store is dark and doesn't look like a bakery other than it being in the name. If you did not know what this place is, you would assume it would be an Italian restaurant. Once you walk through the doors, its like entering into another world. A world where older Cantonese people like to congregate. The parking at this location is small and plaza like. There are is limited parking but because the plaza is not busy, it is easy to get a parking spot. In the store itself, the left side of where the baked baos are, the middle back is the cashier and the right side is where you pickup kitchen orders. The dining area and is limited to roughly 20 people approximately. For the buns, they range from 1-3$ depending on what you purchased. They are a bit more expensive then what you may be use to but they are larger then other HK bakeries. There are many different buns from BBQ pork to curry buns to pineapple buns. If you purchase 6 buns, the order is tax free which is similar to other Chinese bakeries. At the cashier, you can purchased some lai cha. They have 4 sizes from S - XL. The cashier will make it for you and serve the lai cha to you! The lai cha is not to sugary and it is well balanced. If you're interested, you can purchased a combo of a drink and a butter pineapple bun. It looked like a big slab of butter between the pineapple bun but it is a reasonable price of $4.05 read more

Papa John's is my 'go to' HK style breakfast place and bakery. They have a variety of options, taste is on point and portion size is generous even as a takeout option. Due to the pandemic, they have rolled out an online ordering platform which comes in handy since you can pre order meals ahead of time and the takeout will be ready for you once you arrive. You can also order cakes directly online which was convenient especially when you need a rush cake order for the next day but did not order while the bakery was open. They were still able to fulfill the order! I must add that I tried their sesame fresh cream cake and it is absolutely delicious! The cake itself was moist and I was surprised to find that the cake was actually sesame cake. The cream is light and fluffy with just the right amount of real sesame flavour. The cake was topped with fresh fruit including strawberries, fresh figs, kiwi and blueberries. The finishing touch of the chocolate ganache dripping was also one of the highlights of the cake..well done! If you want the traditional bakery items, you have found the right spot! They don't really taste like pineapple, but are just sweet enough, SO soft inside, and with a lovely crisp streusel topping (best when fresh - it tends to flake off messily if you've bought them later in the day). There's not very many HK Cafes in Mississauga but Papa John's gets by as a bakery hybrid joint. Obviously they're known for their baked goods (their pineapple bun is seriously delicious!) But they do have other cooked meals, and they're definitely passable. What I mean is that this place is essentially a bakery with the buns in the displays and then there's a little seating section and counter where you pick up your food from the kitchen. There isn't too much seating and everything is essentially self-serve. For a simple brunch we settled on the satay beef vermicelli, and the pineapple bun with tomato and egg. The satay beef was okay but the satay flavoring could have been a bit stronger. What is liked here was the large amount of noodles and the fact that their was also a good amount of beans sprouts and lettuce. It was only $6 and included a toast which we upgraded to their signature pineapple bun, and a tea or coffee. Their HK style tea is very good here and was deep and rich. The pineapple bun was incredibly flaky. The exterior was crusty while the bun itself was nice and soft. Chewy, sweet, delicious, carby, flavourful, fresh. These are the ways I would describe the buns I purchased here. Located right smack in the middle of suburbia, in a small plaza just north of Eglinton Avenue and Fairbank Drive (on Ceremonial) in Mississauga (about an 8 minute drive from Square One), Papa John's Bakery is a Chinese bakery with very fresh buns and products - I can't stress the freshness enough. The buns I purchased were still warm from the oven. I came by on the morning of Good Friday 2016 (which means they may be open on other holidays - call them to check the day of). My first thought was actually a negative one - I didn't think there was enough variety, compared to other Chinese bakeries or grocery stores I grew up visiting. However, while they only have several shelves of products, what they do have, they do very, very, very well. They have hot dog buns, coconut, pineapple, black sesame, mochi, coconut twists, some trays of coconut buns and breads, and some cakes on display by the cash register. I purchased a couple of coconut buns, a coconut twist, and a black sesame bun (pricing ranges from $1.00 to $1.10 to $1.90. Black sesame mochi was $0.90 each). Overall, super delicious (I ate it all that day!) - so soft and chewy and everything you could want in a sweet snack or dessert. I also found some of the buns to be larger than what you normally find at other Chinese bakeries. So delicious and fresh - I will definitely be back again, and very glad this place opened up in Mississauga. Note that they also have tables sectioned off to the right of the store if you want to sit down and enjoy a drink and snack (about 4 to 5 tables). You can ask for less butter on your pineapple bun and you get a # when you pay, they'll call your # and you get it yourself, they don't bring it to you.
