A nice local Hong Kong cafe. There aren't a lot of Hong Kong cafes in Mississauga, so Papa John's bakery is a much appreciated establishment in Mississauga. It's always very busy here, and parking in the plaza is hard to find, but once you find your way into the bakery, you're hit with a smell of baked goods and HK breakfast staples. The food here is quite good, and the prices are reasonably fair (a bit on the higher side). There is an open kitchen concept, and they sell lots of baked goods ! I like the place, and I've been here several times and I'll come again
We were craving for some HK style milk tea while vacationing in Toronto/Mississauga and stumbled upon this place and boy it did not disappoint. The place has a good amount of seating. You order in the front and they bring the food to you. They have some pretty unique bolo bao (pineapple bun). We got the bolognese & satay beef bolo bao and they are massive! So make sure you're hungry if you get it. The pineapple buns are soft and delicious, the bolognese & satay beef are a bit salty but still good. But I have to say the star of this place is their HK milk tea. It's smooth & not bitter at all. The plus side is you can add your own sugar. This is one place I would visit frequently if I lived in Mississauga.
I got there near closing time thinking I would be out of luck but they still had a good selection. The Pineapple bun is the best I have had in a long time if not ever. The bread is soft and fresh and the topping stays and is tasty and slightly crunchy. The curry beef bun was also big and good. I got a Hong Kong milt tea which did not disappoint. It was so strong it knocked me out and I had a good nap! Lol! Whoever said this is an authentic Hong Kong style cafe was right. Thanks for the recommendation!
If you're looking for a Hong Kong-style cafe (known as a cha chaan teng) in Sauga, don't miss out on this hidden gem spot! It's located in a small plaza and doesn't have fancy decorations, and only has one staff working the cashier. I first found them when using the "Too Good to Go" app, and originally thought they only sold buns or cakes. I've tried their pineapple buns before, which are huge and delicious. Meanwhile, they also serve meals. This time we went for lunch and ordered the HK signature dishes: French Toast, beef macaroni and curry beef brisket rice. The French Toast is filled with peanut butter and served with butter and syrup. It may sound heavy, but it tastes great and you won't be able to stop eating it. The beef macaroni and curry beef brisket both come with a lot of beef. Hong Kong-style curry isn't spicy, but I think the sauce is quite light and a bit watery. Lastly, all meals come with a drink. I chose my favorite Hong Kong-style milk tea. They also have HK-style baked rice and all-day breakfast options. I would say they are very reasonably priced and one of the best spots in Sauga. Please note that they don't open for dinner, and on some days they close at 3 pm.
Great hidden gem bakery but a full restaurant, always freshly baked buns with so many sweet and savoury varieties, lots of places to sit tv is on and always quick attentive staff. Perfect for breakfast or lunch, but lots of the buns sell out so get there early.
Yummy bakery near Toronto. Picked it up on my way to visit Niagara Falls. Well worth the small detour to pickup some fresh buns. The pineapple bun was delicious. The top was crispy and sweet and the bun was pillowy soft. Even eaten the next day, the bun was still decent quality. There's some seating inside and the staff were very friendly. There's a good sized parking lot right outside the bakery, I would go back just to eat the fresh buns!
A lovely Chinese bakery, one of the few left in Mississauga. Opened by two young bakers right in the heart of MIssissauga. Cash preferred. Debit and credit card have extra fees. This is a regular place for my family! Been coming here since they first opened! They are not only a traditional Chinese bakery with buns and Hong Kong style milk tea, but they have small dining room for cooked Cha Chaan Teng menu as well. It's a casual atmosphere and it's always packed with regulars. Highly recommend their buns and milk tea. Milk Tea is the best here. They do tend to steep it longer. So it tastes amazing as cooled or request extra milk.
After the very disappointing tiramisu cake two weeks ago, I immediately called to switch my birthday cake to a cream based cake (Papa John's does cream cakes surprisingly well). Definitely glad I did, as my mocha cake turned out delicious! The cream was nice and light, and there was quite a strong coffee flavour. I found it to be the perfect strength of coffee taste. The cake base was very spongey and airy. Overall, I was pleased with the cake, and found it very well done this time. I've always loved Papa John's, and now I know to stick with cream cakes if I don't want to be disappointed!
This is my go to place for a quick inexpensive breakfast / lunch. I reviewed this place when it first opened and I feel that it deserves a revised rating. This place has been upping their game. The buns are good and I always come for the milk tea. I also like how they have expanded the menu to include noodles, omelette, sandwiches, etc. Now don't expect to be taken to your seat by a waitor or anything, and when you are finished your meal, you are expected to put them away yourself. It is just a casual eatery, but it ranks high in my books as far as casual eats go. I occasionally come here when I drive back into Mississauga. If you do come here, try the pineapple croissant bun.
I've been looking for a good Hong Kong style cha chaan teng (café) in the Mississauga area and I think this is the closest I've come so far. I love a fresh boh loh bao (pineapple bun) and a hot lai cha (milk tea). That's exactly what I ordered here and I was not disappointed! The pineapple bun had a sweet, crumbly, crunchy crust with a soft, fluffy inside. Hong Kong style milk tea is not as simple as tea and milk. It has its own unique taste and texture and they do a great job of it here! It has a good tea flavour, it's creamy and sweet but not too rich and overly sweet. The café itself is very casual and reminiscent of the one's in Hong Kong where the furniture and decor is chosen for practicality rather than design. The buns are a little more expensive than other HK style cafés but also a little bigger in size. I tried a curry bun as well and it had generous amount of filling. I'm definitely going to make this a regular stop for milk tea and buns!
Finally found an amazing Hong Kong Bakery that is right around the corner from where I am! At first glance, the store is dark and doesn't look like a bakery other than it being in the name. If you did not know what this place is, you would assume it would be an Italian restaurant. Once you walk through the doors, its like entering into another world. A world where older Cantonese people like to congregate. The parking at this location is small and plaza like. There are is limited parking but because the plaza is not busy, it is easy to get a parking spot. In the store itself, the left side of where the baked baos are, the middle back is the cashier and the right side is where you pickup kitchen orders. The dining area and is limited to roughly 20 people approximately. For the buns, they range from 1-3$ depending on what you purchased. They are a bit more expensive then what you may be use to but they are larger then other HK bakeries. There are many different buns from BBQ pork to curry buns to pineapple buns. If you purchase 6 buns, the order is tax free which is similar to other Chinese bakeries. At the cashier, you can purchased some lai cha. They have 4 sizes from S - XL. The cashier will make it for you and serve the lai cha to you! The lai cha is not to sugary and it is well balanced. If you're interested, you can purchased a combo of a drink and a butter pineapple bun. It looked like a big slab of butter between the pineapple bun but it is a reasonable price of $4.05

Came in a little skeptical, and the welcome wasn't exactly the warmest... but the food changed everything fast. The A4 Bolo Bun with egg, tomato + butter paired with HK milk tea was seriously good -- especially for $7.50. Will definitely be back for more. read more
Papa John's is a Mississauga staple and finally got around to reviewing them. I've gotten birthday cakes and pineapple buns from them over the years but don't typically dine-in. Did done-in this time with the long weekend since they were open. The vibe is very much Hong Kong cafe, with a lot of self serve stuff but still super friendly staff. Their buns are good as always and made fresh (can even match them making it in the window). I got the baked pork chop rice with hot milk tea and the pineapple bun this time. The portion for the baked pork chop was really good, with a good balance of meat, sauce, and rice. The pineapple bun was fresh and crunchy as expected and the hot milk tea always hits the spot. Definitely a classic go-to spot for Hong Kong baked goods. read more

We used to go to Papa John's for lunch with friends but stopped going because they raised their prices by 50% and they cut back on the ingredients in their food (meat in noodles, filling in buns). It's unfortunate because their food was tasty read more

The buns at this place are delish! The best one that you must come for is the pineapple BBQ pork bun, ESPECIALLY if you come early and it's fresh, warm and crunchy. The bbq filling is generous and worth it. Items here are pretty cheap. HK style cafe with the Staples. I'm not a huge fan of the HK style dishes but it was good value for price. Wish this place was closer to me though. Overall 8/10 would recommend read more
Do you prefer breads & muffins over cupcakes & donuts? A nice brewed tea over the weak teabag fare? Then you have to check out this little spot in this unassuming neighbourhood plaza. I finally went myself after enjoying their pineapple buns via my brother who loves the place! I'm sometimes wary of Asian bakeries because a lot of their baked goods taste "eggy" and most are filled with creams, custards or pastes (not a fan). But the buns here are so well made - fluffy and soft but substantial enough to be a light breakfast or midday snack. Their pineapple buns are the signature. They don't really taste like pineapple, but are just sweet enough, SO soft inside, and with a lovely crisp streusel topping (best when fresh - it tends to flake off messily if you've bought them later in the day). I also tried their cinnamon roll (exactly how I like them - with just a touch of cinnamon sugar!) & walnut roll (also very nice) along with their hot Hong Kong milk tea (perfect, deep brew). The place has a small seating area to the right & there were a lot of people there enjoying tea & treats. The lady was walking around, talking to them - it really had a sweet, neighbourhood vibe. The one downside is that they only take cash, which is a small inconvenience for all the positives here. read more
Fave item: HK style milk tea - so darn creamy and smooth! You know the tea's not coming from a packet since you can see them brewing it right in front of you. I love a good milk tea! Other items ordered: Pineapple bun - they have their own bakery section so these are freshly made! Perfectly crunchy outer layer but nice and fluffy on the inside. You can add a slab of butter on the inside, which is another classic In HK. Satay beef with instant noodles - this is a classic HK cafe dish! Beef and soup is nicely flavoured. (This isn't on the menu but they have all the ingredients to make it, so just ask) HK style toast - this is a deep fried toast (almost like French toast) with peanut butter (or jam, condensed milk) on the inside, slab of butter on top, and syrup on the side. Definitely not healthy, but definitely delicious. Satay beef omelette - beef is tasty; nothing too special Stir fry black pepper beef with rice - a little too salty; nothing too special Overall, very nice cha chaan teng (HK cafe) in Sauga was with classic dishes and comfort food. You won't be disappointed by the milk tea! read more
There's not very many HK Cafes in Mississauga but Papa John's gets by as a bakery hybrid joint. Obviously they're known for their baked goods (their pineapple bun is seriously delicious!) But they do have other cooked meals, and they're definitely passable. What I mean is that this place is essentially a bakery with the buns in the displays and then there's a little seating section and counter where you pick up your food from the kitchen. There isn't too much seating and everything is essentially self-serve. For a simple brunch we settled on the satay beef vermicelli, and the pineapple bun with tomato and egg. The satay beef was okay but the satay flavoring could have been a bit stronger. What is liked here was the large amount of noodles and the fact that their was also a good amount of beans sprouts and lettuce. It was only $6 and included a toast which we upgraded to their signature pineapple bun, and a tea or coffee. Their HK style tea is very good here and was deep and rich. The pineapple bun was incredibly flaky. The exterior was crusty while the bun itself was nice and soft. It worked well with the fried egg and tomato but it seemed like something you can do at home with their pineapple buns. read more

Their cakes are much better than the one we used to order. Buns are good too and are always fresh. Particularly, they have a dine-in menu which offers many valued combos. The fried chicken thigh is really good and I like the "Pineapple bun with butter, and a cup of HK style milk tea" too. Both parking spaces and seats are limited. read more

Chewy, sweet, delicious, carby, flavourful, fresh. These are the ways I would describe the buns I purchased here. Located right smack in the middle of suburbia, in a small plaza just north of Eglinton Avenue and Fairbank Drive (on Ceremonial) in Mississauga (about an 8 minute drive from Square One), Papa John's Bakery is a Chinese bakery with very fresh buns and products - I can't stress the freshness enough. The buns I purchased were still warm from the oven. I came by on the morning of Good Friday 2016 (which means they may be open on other holidays - call them to check the day of). My first thought was actually a negative one - I didn't think there was enough variety, compared to other Chinese bakeries or grocery stores I grew up visiting. However, while they only have several shelves of products, what they do have, they do very, very, very well. They have hot dog buns, coconut, pineapple, black sesame, mochi, coconut twists, some trays of coconut buns and breads, and some cakes on display by the cash register. I purchased a couple of coconut buns, a coconut twist, and a black sesame bun (pricing ranges from $1.00 to $1.10 to $1.90. Black sesame mochi was $0.90 each). Overall, super delicious (I ate it all that day!) - so soft and chewy and everything you could want in a sweet snack or dessert. I also found some of the buns to be larger than what you normally find at other Chinese bakeries. So delicious and fresh - I will definitely be back again, and very glad this place opened up in Mississauga. Note that they also have tables sectioned off to the right of the store if you want to sit down and enjoy a drink and snack (about 4 to 5 tables). For four buns (of pretty significant size), I paid $4.00 total. Cash only. read more
Newly opened bakery with good variety and inexpensive prices. Tried their All Day breakfast menu - specialty is their Pineapple Bun with a thick slice of butter combo with HK style milk tea ($2.50) which is a good value. I also got their egg/toast/sausage/ham combo for $3.90 which really hit the spot for brunch. Great selection of buns for reasonable prices ranging from $0.80-$1.00. I thought their whole cakes were quite cheap, mostly $10-20. Because its new, only downfall is that there is very limited seating, limited food selection, and don't expect any fancy service at this point. But I'd give it some slack as the staff are very nice and it takes time to get organized. Will be back! Tips: ask for your milk tea to be mixed with condensed milk instead if you want it less sweet. 6 buns or more for a discount + no tax! read more

This is by far the best bakery in Mississauga for crispy fresh-baked pineapple bun! The open concept let's you see the buns coming straight out from the oven. Their all-day breakfast deals are cheap, fast and delicious too. For $4.50, you can get macaroni/vermicelli with an egg with bacon or satay beef, regular bun and a Hong Kong-style milk tea. If you add $0.50, you can upgrade to a different Chinese bun, or add $1.00 for a crispy pineapple bun with hot melted butter. This small bakery is hidden in a plaza surrounded by houses, so if you're not looking for it, you will probably drive right by it. So next time if you're looking for a nice Chinese bakery or a place for a quick Hong Kong-style breakfast, you must go to Papa John! read more
I read about the good reviews in yelp for this place so I went today to get 4 pieces of cakes. I guess the good reviews were only for their buns. I was very disappointed when I put my fork into my piece of cake at home. It was hard as if the cake was sitting in their fridge for 5 days. I got 4 varieties of cakes from Papa John's but all four of our cakes were hard. I used to think T&T's cakes were disgusting, but now this place took their place of the most disgusting cake in my list. I don't think I will recommend to my friends because I think it is not fresh. read more

Dear Mr. Kin L.,…
Found out about this place on the Reddit - Mississauga thread since I'm actively looking for hk restaurants in the area. I'm definitely glad I gave this place a try! It's a bakery (lots of buns) with a seating area on the side. It's tucked away in a residential neighbourhood close to square one. I ordered the pork chop bun and cold milk tea which I would highly recommend! Don't get the bbq pork (cha siu). Will definitely come back! read more
Want to try something other than donuts? How about Hong Kong style bakery? This little place is cheap and delicious. Popular for pineapple bun with butter and Hong Kong style breakfast. Their buns and baos are made fresh daily. If you are looking for something that is not too filling and a drink this is your place to be. I personally love getting the half coffee and tea, my wife loves to order their HK style milk tea very smooth. Thumbs up best bakery in the area. read more

Easy to miss little cafe, my meal came up to be about $7, which I think is a good price. If you change your regular toast to a pineapple bun w/ butter it's $1 extra. Tea is also included. The pineapple bun was crispy, soft, warm and really good! You can ask for less butter on your pineapple bun and you get a # when you pay, they'll call your # and you get it yourself, they don't bring it to you. I deducted a star because the vermicelli broth wasn't very tasty and there weren't a lot of variety for the buns. But if you're looking for a quick bite and a cheap meal, it's worth coming to try! read more
