Watching the show behind the counter

Madelyn and Dominic Jr. are entertaining and engaging behind the counter and make customers feel as if you're eating in their kitchen as you watch them prepare their fresh sandwiches. I ordered the meatballs and mozzarella which I had trouble finishing, but it was so good I could not stop. While waiting, I was treated to tales of Brooklyn, a portion of broccoli rabe, tiramisu and a zeppole. The feeling of being welcomed, treated like family and the fantastic fresh food was overwhelming. I this place.

Make sure you try as many food items as you can! The meatballs, chicken parm with vodka sauce on a sesame hero, fries, and sausage subs are all amazing! I will be back! The service is phenomenal as well! Small space but with all the positive energy you just forget about the space. Most people order to go or for delivery but you will love the food even more when they make it right in front of you. The owner and server's made sur ethe kids were served and happy! They gave my son non stop meatballs! My son never cared for meat until he tried these meatballs.

Nice little boardwalk type establishment that offers sausage, peppers and onion sandwiches, cheesesteaks, meatball sandwiches, french fries, and more. We only tried the sausage, peppers and onion sandwich. Sausage was very tender and tasty. Great sandwich overall. Very nice owners also.

This restaurant has the best Italian sauce and food. All made in front of you.

Food is fresh made in front of you. Family owned. The service is excellent. While you wait the owner gives you an example of the meatballs with an excellent Italian sauce. They make the best homemade mozzarella balls.

It was back in 2012 and I was working on an oil spill along Richmond Terrace on Staten Island, NY. For lunch, we would go to a small hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop. The smells, the rolls, and the folks there were just wonderful. Fast Forward to May 2024. I was told by my son that we just have to try out Papa D's Original in Tuckerton, NJ... Well, Papa D's Original was just 10 mins away so we went there. We did not know what to expect when we drove into the small parking lot. There nestled behind a home was a tiny white shack trimmed in red and green with a big ole sign Papa D's Original. The second you step into our shop it reminds you of the Italian heritage of these folks. We were surprised to see a small bar facing the kitchen. There behind the bar was the small kitchen and the owner making rice balls, red and green bell peppers sauteing on the flat top. I was taken aback by the wonderful smells of garlic, onion and fresh bell peppers grilling on the flat top. Then it happened, I was transported back to Staten Island sandwich shop. We bellied up to the bar and were given a menu while five people were prepping the great looking food. The menu has 11 Sandwiches, ranging from the Giavana to the Joe Pesci. They have a catered menu and full dinners. While we were sitting there the owner presented us with a small piece of a rice ball with vodka sauce. OMG! How yummy was that. My wife ordered the Godmother a sandwich with fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil roasted peppers on a seeded long roll. I saw the Toney Bennett, a Meatloaf sandwich with marsala mushrooms and caramelized onions all on a seeded roll. Prices on all the sandwiches range from $6 to $15. Be prepared to use cash only. There is an ATM outside. According to the owner their Italian Grandmas never settled for anything less than fresh, so why should they? Many of the herbs like basil are grown on site and their produce is fresh daily. When we got home, we both enjoyed the sandwiches. Once you take a bite, you'll understand how much these folks value freshness! So, will we be back? You betcha! I want to try the Pacino! This beautiful sandwich is loaded with sliced freshly marinated roast pork, fresh broccoli rabe, and sharp provolone cheese! If you are a hungry guy on a lunch break or a retired couple like us, this place ROCKS!

It's been a minute since I've been to Papa D's. Our first time there we were treated like family. Everything we had was delicious.

Breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? It's all yours anytime of the day. We opted for breakfast (although they…read moreare known for their wings). The young man who was our server was very friendly and helpful. The decor was seaside diner. Ordered at our table...a large western style omelette, fluffy and full of the extras, a French Toast egg sandwich (clean plate club), a plate with a pancake, over easy eggs, home fries and toast, all cooked perfectly. I had the triple decker grilled cheese with bacon and tomato (I think it was called the Happy Waitress), so good, bacon perfect. Recommended!

Stopped in at Chicken & Egg while in LBI with some friends. I ordered the Redneck Benedict, which…read moresounded like a fun twist on a classic, but it ended up being just okay. The flavors were a little bland and the chicken was cut too thick, which made it less enjoyable to eat. The home fries that came with it were also disappointing -- they seemed reheated rather than freshly made, and just didn't have that crisp, flavorful kick you hope for at a breakfast spot. My friends had different dishes, but their reactions were similar -- nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. We all left feeling like the food was a little underwhelming overall. The bathroom was serviceable but not especially clean, and while the service was fine, it wasn't anything that stood out as particularly attentive or warm. On the positive side, the decor was pleasant and gave the place a nice atmosphere. Honestly, that was probably the highlight of the experience for me. If Yelp allowed half-star ratings, I'd give it a 3.5 just for the vibe. All in all, Chicken & Egg isn't a bad place, but it didn't really impress. With so many options around, it's not somewhere I'd rush back to, but I wouldn't call it a total miss either -- more middle of the road.
