Three years since my last review?! That is not right. Papa Chevo's kept their doors open thru all the twists and turns Covid brought. Their food and workers were there every time I had a craving for their food. Cheers to that dedication. The food is always good. The tortillas are amazing. I like just about all the burritos. My favorite is the good ole bean burrito. That selection is perfect any time of day. For sandwiches they also make the list. The fish torta is my favorite. I have also tried the chicken. Equally as good. For plates my favorite is the tamale plate. Perfect size and so delicious. The red on this menu item tastes good and not spicy for me. It could use a little more spice but good the way it is. Last is the burger supreme. Guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese. Hits the spot. The food was good but did not care for bell peppers in the shredded beef mixture, as I am not a fan of bell peppers whatsoever. Otherwise the food was really good...& very filling! We wanted shrimp tacos, and we thought we'd try something new. I shoot out and got some shimrop tacos and some fish tacos. Having had really good shrimp tacos, where a breaded shrimp is fried.. well, this wasn't it. This was more like a salad shrimp was sprinkled in a very generic taco. Fish tacos was better, but not for me. I have had really good fish tacos. I guess I did not know what type of place this was or is. Pricepoint seem high for the very bare bones tacos. This is a newer establishment, evidence to the spotless entryway and the fact you can't see the front of the store on Google Maps. The Food: needs seasoning. I have to admit, I am a little bias, having a Mexican Native wife sort of ruins eating at "Mexican" establishments. There did not seem to be any seasoning on the meat nor did the salsa have much flavor (red nor the green). I will provide the beans and the rice was actually really good. The Environment: the inside was very clean, including the bathrooms. The employees were very friendly and were willing to explain/answer any questions I posed. The Service: fast. Been wanting to try this place since I work in Ahwatukee and recently moved to Tempe. Went for lunch. It's similar to Los Favritos or an upgrade to all the Bertos chains. Very clean inside. Ordering was easy. Staff nice but lackluster. Got a beef taco/cheese enchilada combo and a bean and cheese burrito for later, my gold standard. Like many Bertos the cheese enchilada was barely warm and cheese not melted at all. Enchilada sauce had a mild flavor. Not the best, but not the worst. The beans were flavourful, but also lukewarm. Rice was in the verge of cold and very basic, but better flavor compared to some chains. The shredded beef taco was crisp, meaty and delicious. I finished the whole taco. It had enough flavor to not need sauce. The green sauce they handed out in cups had a great tang. The red sauce has a nice show burn on my lips, but not a huge amount of flavor. Brought the enchilada I took 2 bites of home to the hubby. After a blast in the microwave he said it was good. Bean and cheese burrito I took home and heated up was great. Very fresh tasting flour tortilla and tons of beans and cheese for $5.00. Adding the green sauce to it made it a very good dinner. Overall it was fine. $20 for the combination and burrito, so it won't break the bank. It's an ok option for Ahwatukee. Think we'll go back to sample some of the other items posted like the rolled tacos or flautas, but don't know if it's good enough to be put in our regular rotation, but good enough for a try!! read more

Papa Chevo's ain't my Papa! Full disclosure - I frequent Papa Chevo's. It's a decent taco/burrito shop. I probably order food from there once a month. But this Sunday, I ordered ground beef tacos for my kids, rolled tacos and a ground beef burrito w/rice. The taco shells, according to my kids, were "super" stale! No bueno! My ground beef burrito, which should have ground beef, lettuce, pico de gallo and cheese, was an imposter! They gave me a carne asada burrito with only rice! The best thing from my burrito was the tortilla. Thirty-three dollars later, I'm disappointed, because I wasted money on old shells and food I didn't want. Silver lining - I've learned NEVER to go to Papa Chevo's late on a Sunday because you get the JV squad working the restaurant when I paid Varsity prices. Its a nice Sunday Morning! I must have passed by and saw this sign from the main road of Ray rd off the I-10 almost everyday. I was craving potatoes or hash browns this past 3 days. I honestly didn't want to cook breakfast today, because then I will have to go to the market and buy groceries. I have waited long enough to get my craving fix. It took me a bit to decide, but today I decided to try their breakfast burrito in the menu, since it has potatoes in it! That should fix my potato cravings. They opened at 6:00 AM. I walked in and ordered. Got my breakfast burrito and decided to sit down and enjoy it. I've cut my burrito in half for easy convenient biting while I eat it. The Burrito was still hot since they cooked it by ordered and it's delicious! I'm rating this place 3 stars, because as I eat my breakfast burrito, I noticed my potatoes are cut diced and probably cooked from yesterday or left over!? Who knows!! I grabbed one and looked at it...It even look like it came out of the can, it's was very soft and wrinkly. The Burrito is a regular sized, wrapped very well and I love their tortilla. Papa Chevo's is the real deal. I went there early in the morning to get some breakfast burritos. Not a lot of places are open early in the morning but Papa Chevo gets out of bed early, and you better believe it. I got two burritos - one with sausage and another with chorizo! The lady behind the counter asked me if I wanted any sauce, and I said "I dunno. Ok" and she gave me two different sauces to try, each one was like a spicy salsa but different flavors - they were pretty good. The real question is how were the burritos though, not the sauces. They were pretty good. Not dry, not too messy - pretty freakin' good. I don't know what Papa Chevo looks like, but I assume he made them by hand - it didn't look like they had the kind of machinery around that they'd need to do it automatically.
