Do you feel awkward parking at a hotel that looks like a total dump just to go upstairs to this bar? Yes, but you still should. I ended up going on my own, and came back with colleagues the last night of our trip as it's a must stop. As I'm sure we all know, what makes it fun and unique is the dancing Mermaid performances in the pool behind the bar. Such a cool concept to watch them entertain you while you enjoy a good drink. My first time in the bartender was fantastic and giving me all the history of the place, and how the pool used to just be the hotels' actual swimming pool, and guests would swim in it, no Thank you. I ordered the cranberry cherry limeade, not realizing that it was basically a bucket full of booze, equivalent to three drinks (not complaining, just forewarning) also enjoyed chatting with the bartender about how the place is haunted. Definitely gives off that vibe and total dive bar/tiki feel. I'd come back every time I'm in this town or on a road trip. 21+---although they allowed a few families to come in with kids for a minute and get a picture by the mermaids, which I thought was super cool. And yes, you can tip the maids too! I didn't get any food from the restaurant, but I heard from a few it wasn't amazing so I think this is just a dive drinking spot for me.

Dive bar vibes.

The house is decorated with lots of interesting collectibles - we had an amazing model of an old sailboat in our room. Comfortable bed and pillows, and a good shower with adjustments. Not sure what the normal breakfast time is but the hosts are very accommodating. We had to leave early in the morning so they made us two delicious breakfast sandwiches from scratch for the road. When I travel, I'm usually on one of two quests: finding a town's best old fashioned or tracking…read moredown its best BBQ. In Great Falls, Montana, that second mission is easily accomplished at Smoked. I went all in with the brisket burnt ends, baked beans, coleslaw, and banana pudding for dessert--and every bite confirmed I was exactly where I was supposed to be. The burnt ends were rich, smoky, and indulgent in the best way. The portions were perfectly sized (which I deeply appreciate), leaving room to enjoy everything without feeling overdone. The coleslaw was solid and refreshing, though I couldn't help wishing I'd gone for the spicy version--lesson learned for next time. The baked beans, though? Basic in the most comforting, nostalgic way. They instantly transported me to gathering around a campfire with friends, plates balanced on knees, smoke in the air, and no rush to be anywhere else. And then there was the banana pudding--simple, satisfying, and exactly the sweet ending a great BBQ meal deserves. If you find yourself in Great Falls and craving BBQ that delivers both flavor and feeling, Smoked is the place. This is the kind of spot that reminds you why seeking out local favorites is always worth it.

This was our first trip to Ocean Star Seafood and our last. My husband and I were looking forward…read moreto dinner here for seafood since there is no all seafood restaurant in Great Falls. We heard from some friends how they liked eating here. I'm sorry to say we were very disappointed with our experience. We liked the calm atmosphere, ambience and nicely done decor, with a large salt water fish tank at the entrance. We came around 7:30 so there were only a few filled tables and booths. We were greeted from a smiling hostess, quickly seated and given the drink and buffet menu. Our waitress introduced herself. We asked for the entree menu since we weren't interested in the buffet. Afterward she gave us time to go over the menu. She brought over two tall glasses of water while we decided on our entrees. After ordering our meals came quickly. Our waitress came by a couple of times asking how we were doing. We chatted about the hot weather and going to the fair. I ordered the Hibachi grilled salmon with pineapple, baby corn, sliced zucchini and bean sprouts with noodles in the spicy garlic sauce, which was not too hot, with miso soup for $16.99. My husband ordered the grilled scallops, broccoli, sliced carrots, pineapple and sliced mushrooms with fried rice and a salad for $17.99. I'm sorry to say we were disappointed with our meals. I had to ask for a dinner size napkin since I didn't get one. The waitress pointed to the napkin dispenser but did bring one. My cup of soup was not hot, bland with a few bits of tofu, seaweed and green onions slices. The small portion of salmon was grilled tender but hiding underneath the vegetables and a generous serving of noodles and filled my plate. The pineapple chunks and sliced zucchini were good. But the baby corn and bean sprouts tasted like they were canned and didn't taste grilled. My husband's salad was very small with iceberg lettuce and a few slices of tomato and cucumber. The Honey Ginger dressing was tasty though. The fried rice was cold, the several scallops very small and the vegetables unremarkable. His entree didn't fill his plate like mine. We quickly ate, paid the bill and left with my leftovers. Leaving we were not wished a good evening by the two young ladies at the entrance although they did quickly smile. I don't like giving bad reviews but I hope this gives the manager a few things to discuss with the staff and cooks to improve the experience.
