Thankfully, Phat Phat stepped in to fill that gap. We drove 30 miles for a late lunch around 2:30 p.m. to hopefully beat the crowds. There's a huge parking lot in the back, the building itself is incredibly unique, and the interior is absolutely beautiful. It feels modern while still being warm and inviting. We wanted to try a variety of dishes, so we ordered two baskets of the Shanghai Soup Dumplings, the Enoki Mushroom appetizer, Chicken Fried Rice, Phat Phat Chicken, Nasi Campur, and finished the meal with the Mango Sago. Everything was incredible. The soup dumplings definitely filled the void that Din Tai Fung left behind. Every dish was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and served piping hot. The Mango Sago was the perfect palate cleanser and a refreshing way to end the meal on a hot summer day. The standout for me was the Enoki Mushroom appetizer. That will be a must-order every time we come back. We also have Indonesian family and have visited Bali, so we were excited to try the Nasi Campur. It was spot on. The satay is another must-order in my opinion. Our waiter was kind and attentive, and the rest of the staff were just as welcoming and pleasant. She continued to object and made a big production of making a phone call to find out if they'd let her honor the advertisement. She couldn't reach whoever she was calling, and told us in an annoyed tone that she'd honor it THIS TIME, indicating that we shouldn't bother returning to take advantage of the deal the store is advertising. The whole experience was very off-putting and I think customers and corporate need to be aware that locations may not be honoring the promos that are being blasted out in sponsored ads. My friend and I each drove 30 minutes for lunch and chose our restaurant solely based on this offer. The food was good, but the awful customer service definitely left a bad taste in our mouths. They have quite an extensive menu offering both Korean & Chinese entrees. It was tough deciding what to choose but we ended up ordered the Jjampong + Jjajangmyeon combo, Pork & Stir-Fried Squid, Galbitang, and Soy Garlic Fried Chicken (Bone-in). Out of everything, the Jjajangmyeon was the clear standout. The flavor was so good that I'd honestly come back just for that alone. Absolute comfort food. The Jjampong didn't quite hit for me -- it wasn't bad, but it felt a little bland and lacked the umami I usually look for. I've had better elsewhere, so I'd probably skip that next time. Similarly the Pork & Squid stir fry just didn't pack the right punch for me so I would pass too. Other highlights were definitely the Soy Garlic Fried Chicken and Galbitang. The chicken was packed with flavor, perfectly crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside -- a must-order. The Galbitang was comforting and hearty, with about four bones in the soup, super tender meat, and a clean, soothing broth. The space itself is small with only four tables, and we lucked out getting one. It has such a cozy, homey feel -- like you're sitting in her kitchen while she cooks you a homemade Korean meal. Service was excellent too; they checked in often and kept our drinks refilled. Overall, a great start to my 2026 food reviews. I'll definitely be back -- especially for that Jjajangmyeon and Soy Garlic Fried Chicken. I can't wait to try more of their dishes.

There are several spread out throughout Chicagoland and judging from their usual packed parking lots, they are all popular given their great value. Fortunately, it only took about 15 minutes on the order so they were pretty quick. The restaurant was still fairly busy even though it was like 1:30pm. We ordered two dishes from their lunch-sized favorites menu, both being just $12.49. One dish was shrimp scampi with a house salad, and the other was chicken parmigiana with a chicken and gnocchi soup. The order also came with their famous breadsticks, and our order was a lot of food for the money. The taste of both dishes was ordinary but the value was exceptional. The guy claimed it was baked fresh daily but it was 11:30am and the bread was rock solid. I've bought enough french bread rolls to know that was not fresh bread lol. The review I saw complained about the same thing, so this is obviously a common theme. I normally dont mind stale-ish bread but one end of this sandwich was inedible it was so stale. I like that they are using real bread instead of what most places do, which is just use turano bread which doesnt taste nearly as good, but if its stale none of that matters. Anyway, beyond that the sandwiches were a little bland in terms of content. Standard "italian" sandwiches, good for those that like blander things. The spicy rossi had almost no spice outside of the included giardinera. The pizza was decent....nothing to write home about but fairly good for the area. They only had like 2 drink choices but he offered to get us coke from the restaurant next door which was nice of him but the cokes were like coke flavored water lol. I hate to sh*t on the place because i like that more local deli sandwich places are popping up but I dont think that place would survive if it wasnt attached to a restaurant. It's a tough area to survive in outside of the weekends too so i get that keeping fresh bread on hand is probably a money pit. I think they just need to move that operation somewhere else that gets more lunch traffic, get some actual fresh bread and make the menu a little more interesting.
