I arrived at Panera at 8:55 AM and decided from the menu that I wanted the Pastry "Bundle" listed which was 6 pastries at a reduced price because I was buying several. I gave my order and added 4 more and the young lady behind the counter gave me the price and it didn't add up... so I asked why... and she said she didn't have that price on her screen. So she went to get her manager and they sauntered back to assist and the Manager was basically quietly grouchy with the young woman but didn't say it. It said I had to choose 6 specific items... so I said, ok.... let's pick 6 from your list and then add 4 more. It only saved me a couple dollars but hey... I was spending $30 in pastries so I felt that it was worth it. The young woman put the items I listed in the computer and I paid... all of which she then started one by one trying to put in individual boxes. I said... no, no, no, just put them on one tray or one box. So she then proceeded to get a larger box out and tried to put them in. Several times looking at her screen and filling the order. She had accidentally put the last two items in incorrectly and by the time she was finished she had taken 20 minutes to order 10 pastries. I was so flustered by this time. Here is what I feel... 1. The staff at Panera is ALWAYS at EVERY time that I have visited have been under trained. 2. The staff are NOT happy... They all appear to be doing a job they hate... or is it doing a job for someone for whom they do not like? I don't know... but they ALWAYS appear to be unhappy and that is disconcerting. 3. They are NEVER prepared to meet their guests. Why is it that this young lady did not have boxes ready and had to go get a manager to open the large box to unload smaller boxes to use. 4. Why when the young lady was having some trouble that the manager didn't step in and assist her? Offer some support... instead she turned around and left as soon as she found the button on the computer to charge me. At 9 AM on a Sunday morning there were a total of 4 people in the restaurant and there was only 2 people when I arrived. Why is it that they are not prepared? There are a lot of times between customers and a large cart is sitting behind the pastries that is not loaded into the case. Just sitting out in the open. 5. I ordered a small coffee, and when I went to put cream in my coffee the entire TOP was off of the carafe and it was completely open. I looked around and there was NO top. My guess is that it is broken and they just didn't think anyone would care... I CARE.... I care that I don't know how long that is open and worried that if I use cream from an open container that I don't know how long it has been setting there could cause me to get sick... It's COVID times and now I have to worry that I am going to get sick from bad milk... or that it has been open from someone else who has contaminated the OPEN container. 6. On numerous times I have seen management sitting off in the corner eating food from other restaurants in their OWN restaurant... How would they feel if I brought in Bojangles and sat down at their restaurant and ate my meal and yet their own staff does it. I am always anticipating one level of experience from Panera, one of my very favorite fast food places and receiving something very different. I ALWAYS look for one when I am traveling and yet the one Panera that is in my own town is the worst one I have ever been to. This review does not even cover the fact that they often do not prepare the food quite like other Paneras. I didn't review that portion but the food is often made very differently than other locations. I am just so disappointed In my experience at this Panera... I will be honest, I was headed to church... and because of how long this took... I was pretty late. I should have planned for more time... that is on me. But by the time I left there... I was UPSET and my morning was ruined by my experience at Panera. read more

However, everything was hot and fresh.
