Whenever I travel I usually hit up Panera because I love all the healthy options. Today I went into the Merced .ca Panera and inquired if they had any souffles left. Being that I was at an appointment I had not checked the time. There were 2 girls at the counter , the one rudely informed me that's a breakfast item and its no longer breakfast....ok thanks , I was just asking. Then being that I don't regularly frequent this spot I asked where to pick up after I got my drink, again rude....um pick up is in the back...I came here for a nice meal not a steaming heap of attitude. I ordered the french onion soup, clam chowder soup and the grilled tomato and cheese sandwich, to go I have had better clam chowder soup out of a can and the french onion soup was bitter. When picking up an order or having it delivered to you, check the bag to make sure your order is accurate. No one there checks for accuracy anymore. They missed one item on my delivery order. The driver had already left, and Panera couldn't delivery my missing item. Was told to pick up. Emailed their customer care, and still no response after 3 days. :( read more

This is was my first visit to Panera. I went around 10:30am. I asked the girl for a lil bit of guidance on what to order since I had never ate there. She recommended the Asiago cheese bagel. I asked for toasted with cream cheese and a tea. The wait time was good and everything. My items were given and I left. I got to work and when I open the bag there was a toasted bagel and a butter knife but that was it. So I had to go back, mind you I don't work far away but still. So when I got there, she greeted me again as if I was a new customer, so I asked if I was supposed to get the cream cheese from somewhere myself or how does it work ( I had never been there so I wasn't sure if it was self serve or what ) she just said "oh sorry" gave me the cream cheese and that's it. I didn't feel like she cared too much that I was trying out the place and make sure I was happy enough to go back. I did go back cause I got a free bagel in the app, but went drive thru this time, the guy that helped me, was really nice and patient while I was trying to make my order. Everything was great that 2nd time, but the girl from the first time didn't seem like she liked to be there. Make sure to double check your ingredients in your sandwich. Ordered an Italian sandwich and got some bullshit (jk). Some of the listed items were in the sandwich and others we're forgotten/added making a strange "Italian" sandwich. I'm sure the other sandwiches would have been made correctly though! Im giving Panera Bread 5 stars. This place is always clean. The selection of food is decent. Its a little pricey for the serving size but worth every penny. I love the self serve drinks and flavored teas and water selection. I also like that the food is fresh, especially the bread. Good selection of bagels and yummy selection of cream cheese. Their bread is too hard, it is like biting a rock. The customer service is not very friendly which isn't a deal breaker for me I'm more concerned about the hard rock-like bread. Called in here today and had wonderful service. My poor daughter is on a very limited diet for a couple of weeks and has been un able to eat out. We thought Panera would be worth a try. Ella was beyond helpful, checking ingredients and letting us debate what would be suitable. She smiled the whole time and even helped make all the options sound appealing (even if my daughter couldn't have the yummy ones). We ended up with a green goddess salad (minus a few ingredients) and it arrived just as described. What was probably just another customer to Ella was a really special meal for us - so thank you for the excellent service and special thanks to the wonderful kitchen staff who took such care over our order. read more

Super impressed with the staff of Panera in Merced today! From what I could see, there was an elderly female customer who was ready to leave but was confused on how to get to where she was going. It was also pouring rain outside. Despite all of this happening during the lunch rush time, the staff was super patient, polite, and helped her call a taxi so that she could get to where she needed to go. They also offered her water while she waited for the taxi to come. Staff is always polite but this was above and beyond (and how I would want someone to treat my grandmother). my favorite drive thru in town for coffee. their coffee is always fresh and strong, 10x better than Starbucks and less expensive. I usually pick up a loaf of French baguette at the same time, so much easier than going to the grocery store and better quality. always friendly staff. takes them a little time but they get your order right and good quality and service so worth it. read more

The night before last my husband and I had Panera for the first time, I want to say it was delicious, we ordered the Soba Noodles w/ Chicken (amazing). I also enjoyed the bar-b-q chicken sandwich! Not a place to go to if you are looking to get filled up. Overpriced fuffy food. Went twice. Thought it might of been a fluke. These people have no clue on how to make a sandwich. Both times there is an inch of bread on the outside perimeter of the sandwich. Asked them about it and was told that's the way it is. Wrote their corporate website and they weren't happy. I love panera, my dad used to work for them, so I know the menu fairly well. Today I ordered a caprese sandwich and a chocolate chip bagel for rapid pickup and the order was put together really fast and it was done sloppily. The caprese had no balsamic and the bread was hard from being over cooked. It was hastily put together and I was really disappointed since it didn't even taste like a caprese. I've ordered it before and this was overdone with a lack of ingredients. I didn't check my order until I got home so I had no idea that it was poorly made. read more

I usually love Panera, but this location is definitely not the best.. I've been here a couple times and the first time they messed up our sandwiches and then we found hairs in our new ones. The second time we tried their smoothies and it tasted how I imagine blending a couple packs of low-fat strawberry yoplait with ice would taste. Almost guaranteed to mess up your order, 9/10 times. They always forget the bread, that is, if they even have any prepared at all. Ordered through rapid pick-up multiple times to drive to the store and be told they didn't have what I ordered. A call would've been nice instead of driving all the way there to find nothing. I moved to Merced in July of 2013 and since have found it's hard to find a whole lot of quality food. There are a lot of drive thru's with greasy food. I personally love Panera and missed it when I moved from Fresno. I would recommend the broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl (they've been out of it by noon two days this week!), the Asian sesame chicken salad. Also, any of the pastries are extremely delicious (and only 99 cents with a meal). My favorite is the cheese pastry. I am so glad you've come to Merced and can't wait to be back! read more

This panera always tries to give you less than what you pay for. Their soup servings are small in comparison to other paneras in the Bay Area. The service is okay, nothing above and beyond. I would say that it's a basic panera at best. read more

Make sure you set aside an entire hour just to wait on the drive thru. They take forever

The drive through service is very good. They have delicious brownies and the server was polite. One flaw is that I had a hard time hearing the lady in the microphone in the drive through. read more

Carmen really should work on her customer service. We went to the counter to order a pastry and she immediately said "They're no longer 99cents" so frantically. I was confused as to why she was saying that, and I responded, "That's ok, we can pay $2.99" She looked at me extremely confused and then said, "It's only 99cents when you purchase it with a meal." This totally confused me because I was unaware of that promotion, but it's not like I was asking for a discount. I don't understand why she was so rude and adamant about telling me I could not purchase it for 99cents. I intended on paying the full $2.99 for it because I went to the counter specifically for a pastry and not a sandwich. She was incredibly rude and really made me feel like I was out to steal a deal or something. Sometimes it seems as though the food is 'sloppily' thrown together.like a sandwich that has extra wide, long bread and it's folded into a small paper bag.
