I asked the person at the cash register what was on the one sandwich I was thinking of ordering and as she was reading the ingredients, she said she didn't know what two of the items were on the sandwich. I ordered a half of a sandwich and a small salad and I got two small sandwiches. The tables were all dirty and not once did we ever see anybody come by to clean tables once guests had left. As we were leaving, I stopped by the counter and told the young man I just wanted to let you know that the tables are dirty and that I didn't see anyone coming by to clean them. Terrible service, bad attitude of counter person who shortly informed me she never of the dozen bagel Tuesday deal and could not help me read the shelf labels so I could choose from the very few left for the day. This type of service is becoming more common, and the bagels aren't as good as they used to be. The place was clean, at least. I don't really like ordering sandwiches from restaurants because most of the time they are fast food qualaty but this is definitely the best sandwich I've ever had. I got the green goddess caprese melt and at the first bite I got cheese, garlic sauce, and green goddess sauce with some lettuce on the first bite. The restaurant looked very clean but I did not get a feel for it as I ordered to go. The staff was very kind when we needed extra cups and wanted the iced tea to be refilled. The food was great as with any Panera but the restaurant itself was unkept. They were out of most of their breads for their sandwiches (only 2 breads to choose from when it's normally closer to 5 I think) and didn't have any bread bowls with over 2 hours left open. We love Panera but I would suggest to avoid this one, the restaurant was just nasty and doesn't seem to be managed well. My boyfriend and I have both worked in the restaurant industry, we were just absolutely appalled by the amount of employees that continued to walk right by all the trash in the floor and do nothing to clean up. read more

Now I love Panera and their menu...however, this location needs some help with staffing! I don't get it with people these days and finding good help. It took me almost 20 minutes to get a cafe latte and a pastry due to the fact that they were understaffed and no one could help the new girl find the espresso beans in the back. My wife and tried one of the new dippers sandwich specials and was insulted by what we received. Plus I had a BOGO rewards from the app which the cashier said he could redeem, but failed to do. The coffee was cold. The bagel was tough. I was told by the cashier to heat up my coffee in their microwave. The microwave was dirty. Then we looked for a place to sit and all the tables were dirty. I was given a choice to use my phone number to get my rewards. I used to eat here, especially the broccoli cheese soup but the last time I ordered it , it was cold and runny. This place is filthy. The bathrooms are nasty. The urinals were stopped up. The walls around the booth have old food on then and haven't been cleaned. The floors are dirty and the place stinks. The are you put your trash and dishes is gross and had not been cleaned. The employees look like their on drugs and when they speak you can't hear them. I can keep going on but I'm not. This used to be my favorite place to visit for lunch in Johnson City. My past four visits have convinced me to significantly alter my support. The service, and cleanliness of this venue is unimaginably poor. The floors are dirty, the backs of the seats are filthy, and the tables (they weren't busy, so there were many from which to choose) were all covered in leftover 'bits' from previous customers. The toilet looked as though it hadn't been cleaned for a month. In an environment overseen by people's Covid concerns, this is intolerable. The kitchen hand who offered me my food didn't hesitate in his private conversation with a workmate, to recognize my presence. The food was fair, the coffee was weak and though warm, was not warm enough to enjoy. I understand the tenor of the printed statement on the door, saying they are very short staffed. That statement has been there over a month. However, we have a small retail business in Johnson City employing seven people. We occasionally lose staff, just as does Panera. What we do is advertise for new staff and always...always... have a replacement within two or three days. Does Panera have such a poor reputation that workers won't apply; or are they trying to maximize profit by using the current situation as an excuse to not hire replacement staff? I cannot hide my disappointment with this Panera. We will continue to be loyal at other locations, but this one has lost us. read more

We went in and looked at the menu for a minute before going up to the counter I try to order a sandwich and the girl says we are out of the bread for the sandwich I tell her no worries can I just get it on another bread she literally glitches out for a minute and then says we are out of ALL bread like we are the stupid ones for trying to order bread at Panera BREAD!!! Walked in and the staff looked unenthused. The ensuing "greeting" matched their enthusiasm. Got two pick 2's to go. After 5 mins on the road, we opened up our order. Between the two orders, we came out with one pick 2 and that's being generous. One pick 2 was 3/4 at best (picture attached). The second pick 2 came with just the half sandwich. So I payed $23 for two "meals" without drinks... The food we did have was decent, but the cumulative experience was enough for me to say Panera is now a last resort. read more

It seems like a given that Panera Bread would serve consistently high quality food with friendly service but I do not want to take my local "go to" Saturday lunch spot for granted. Today I was greeted with "you have a free birthday pastry" when I provided my loyalty card. It's not even close to my birthday but hey, I will celebrate with a flaky and fresh croissant. It was the perfect accompaniment to my broccoli cheese soup and apple. For years Panera Bread has always provided healthy food options. I also love their Greek and their summer seasonal salads. This is a great spot for lunch or breakfast meetings and the food rolls out quickly. Today I'm bringing my family home a French baguette for dinner. read more

The manager, thinking like a manager, tells me the water cups are by the fountain and they are basically five ounce shot glasses for water == Fail. I just spent $30 and in 15 minutes I'm spending $10 more on bread and your going to give me a 5 oz water cup? FAIL That will cost at least one star, maybe two. The price, yeah, what about that price Panera. I'll admit I don't eat at Panera much, and the wife and kids had never ate at Panera. So, I wasn't prepared in my mind for $30 in sandwiches. April 8th, 2018: I'm so disappointed about this place. It has been an ordeal to order take out food and get the order right. What's is wrong with the kids that work preparing the food, specially during weekends!!???? I am 10 mins away for. That place and EVERY Freaking SinGLE time I place an order on the app or call, they get something messed up. They always miss something! They are not paying attention to their work!!! If that is something as simple as to read a monitor and prepare an order, I don't want to find out how they are making the food!!! This is my 6th time ordering something and they screwed up in a period of 3 weeks. They messed up my bean soup and onion soup and missing the extra bread that I paid for it. Or missing the muffin or the croutons on my onion soup, or forgot that it was a bread bowl... I'm done! Looking for another place to get my soups! They need to get more responsible young kids. It is a waste of my time, I have had to drive back to the place to ask for what they have missed way too many times. Yep... I'm pissed. Very disappointed in this location not participating at all in Veterans Day. We have lived in many different locations and have always seen Panera participate. This chain is perhaps the most expensively priced food of its kind and this particular location is in a city that holds a VA hospital, yet for some reason they do not feel it is important to participate in Veterans Day to provide a simple free meal for the people who fought for the reason that they exist. People that complain about the prices need to stick to their $1 McChickens...I like to go for the breakfast which is always on point and the staff is friendly. Pros: Food was good. Mac and cheese was pretty good. Cons: I agree with the other guy, they rushed me into ordering. They only gave me half my order when my buzzer rang. They forgot my Mac and cheese. Had to wait for the Mac and cheese after I already got my sandwich. Sandwich was tasty, but could have been hotter if they had gotten my order right the first time. However, we started to consistently have problems with our orders: missing items, long(er) than promised wait times. Management has been less than a pleasure to work with sorting out the kinks. We've invested heavily in our kitchen over the years and cook most of our own meals. Panera Bread company has inspired us to explore new approaches to our food creations. Recently, we noticed that Panera has stepped up their game even more than before. The food is always light but hearty, striking the right balance in creativity and fulfillment. The staff are always helpful if engaged for their input, mostly college age, and interesting people when you take the time to notice. I think the chink in Panera's model is the absence of personal involvement once you've reached the seating area. In some ways it's like seating in a nicer cafeteria, which is okay by us because we tend toward introversion while eating. Some might see that as a lack of attention, but it's really some private space in a fast serving operation. Overall, Panera gets most of what we consider right in a place to eat. We rarely go to any other chain or fast food place. This was the only soup/sandwich/bakery shop we took our entire extended family to during a family reunion, no complaints, and everyone had lots to engage each other about over the wonderful food they had ordered. read more

Consistently good. I love it here during off hours when it's not packed, you can enjoy unrushed coffee shop ambiance, good food, and fast wifi. Some things here are always great, I can enthusiastically recommend the following: 1) Cinnamon Crunch Bagel with Hazelnut Cream Cheese. Pick up a dozen before work and make a bunch of friends...these are sugary perfection. 2) Hazelnut Coffee. It's cute that they put the brewed time up on each refill pot and just about any kind of coffee accoutrements you desire including nutmeg. If you haven't had nutmeg in your hazelnut coffee, its' the best thing you can add besides whiskey which, sadly, isn't an option at Panera but it's about the only thing that isn't. 3) Everything Bagel with Veggie Cream Cheese. In the mood for savory goodness instead of sweetness, try this pair and don't be afraid to slather on that onion-y good cream cheese. 4) The Chicken Cobb with Avacado...almost the perfect salad. I say almost because they could really add a little more dressing most of the time, but it's hard to complain about this bowlful of yummy low-carb sustenance. I mean, come on! 5) Baguettes. Just good traditional slightly crusty bread. Put some butter out to soften at home, pick up a baguette on your trip to Panera, and enjoy them together when you get back. That's the list of recommendations, but there are a few other things you might need to know. If it's during a rush, you won't find a booth and it can get pretty loud. It's always very clean and a good spot to take a book or a laptop and chill. Unless a pack of unruly kids (or even 1 or 2 especially loud little buggers) or a gaggle of identically t-shirted family reunioners shows up you should enjoy a nice visit. They also usually have some good cookies, muffins, etc. All of the soups are full of carbs so if you're off the carbs stick to salads and coffee. I mean you're just going to have to show up and figure the rest out for yourself. Parking at the Johnson City Panera is pretty tight. The Kingsport store has better parking. They have a little rewards program, my wife and I share an account and occasionally get a free coffee. read more
