Service today was strange. Dining room not open until 7:00a but drive thru open at 6:00a. After placing a mobile order, we pull up to the drive through and they tell us that they had not received our order. We wait about 10 minutes in the drive through line for our 1 sandwich. Typical Panera restaurant with similar and familiar food options. Got my usual: cream of wild rice and chicken soup. This time with a Cobb salad and my sip club beverage. Salad was fresh and typical except only had 1/2 an egg and not a full egg. Soup was good. While h the e same, I've found the consistency varies from one location to another. This one was just the right level of liquidity so it didn't seem like I was chewing my soup. Servers were typical with one being really very nice and accommodating but the others didn't seem to really want to be at work. While not rude or anything they just weren't very welcoming. I've been a loyal Panera customer for over 15 years, and today I experienced something that has never happened to me at any other location. While traveling home through several states, I stopped by this location for breakfast with about three minutes to spare before breakfast service ended. Upon entering, there was no one at the front register or available to greet customers. After waiting a bit, I had to poke my head through the pickup window and ask if anyone was available to take my order. When a team member finally came out, I ordered the Asiago Bagel Sandwich with steak and, as I always do with Panera orders, asked to customize it due to dietary needs. I requested no spicy sauce because I suffer from severe heartburn, GERD, and acid reflux and can't tolerate anything spicy. To my surprise, the team member told me she needed to ask if that modification could be made. I was honestly shocked--why would a manager need to approve a customer's dietary restriction? Still, I let it go, until I asked for another basic customization: to remove raw red onions (which I cannot eat) and substitute sautéed onions instead. Again, she said she'd have to ask. By this point, I was frustrated. I've never been told I couldn't customize a sandwich at Panera--especially for health reasons. I am a bariatric patient and I cannot eat everything the average person can. I asked to speak with the manager three times before she finally went to get her. The manager, Maria, came out and gave me vague, dismissive explanations--mentioning something about the sandwich being a limited-time item, referencing soups (which I didn't even order), and trying to justify the team member's confusion because she "doesn't usually work weekend mornings." None of these excuses made any sense to me--the menu doesn't change based on who's on shift. I felt disrespected, unheard, and undervalued as a long-time customer. It was truly disappointing, and had I been a local, I wouldn't return to this location. To her credit, Maria did offer me a complimentary item of my choice for the trouble, and I accepted a kitchen sink cookie. She also said she'd be retraining the team member, which I hope actually happens. This is not the standard of service or customer care I've come to expect from Panera. I hope this was an isolated incident, but it was still frustrating and discouraging. read more

I stopped by this Panera for a mid-afternoon Friday lunch in late September 2023. On the plus side, it has a convenient location about a half-mile west of I-95. The Green Goddess half-salad was delicious - as it tends to be at most Paneras. However, this location needs improvement. First, the service was unusually slow. I waited about 4 minutes before a cashier arrived to take my order. Perhaps it was an off-day. Second, a few tables had a dirty smell like they had not been wiped properly. Third, the men's room was in horrible shape - it really needed to be cleaned and disinfected. Perhaps, staffing shortages contributed to the problem. I hope management improves the cleanliness of this location. read more

This was the first stop on our family road trip. We went in to use the restroom and grab breakfast. Personnel was scarce and not very hospitable. The restrooms were in dire need of attention. It's Panera; 8:15 on a Saturday Morning. Missed the entrance and almost pulled into the one-way exit. Pulled into Waffle House and drove my truck over the curb to the defunct hotel which actually shares an entrance with Panera...go figure. This location has the smallest parking lot I've ever seen at a Panera, and one of the smallest seating areas as well. Not busy. Ordered on an automated touch screen. Works fine but absolutely no human contact during the experience. Don't expect hello or good morning. I only saw two employees but there at least needed to be a Baker since it was still early. The tables were clean, but the hanging / suspended lights over the tables were disgusting. The light colored cable was covered with dirt, dead flies, and other what's the word starts with a d for junk for not debris. It's close, yeah detritus. read more

Dirty tables, employees were too busy talking (at least 20 minutes while we were there) instead of wiping down tables... we were there 45 minutes waiting for a sandwich and salad and the tables were still all dirty, we had to clean our own table...even one employee sat at a dirty table for his break. They did not ring in one of our salads and the employee behind the counter had an attitude... don't blame him though, sounds like poor management issues. Last picture, same tables dirty a whole hour after we walked in... and if you are the customer that left it that way, shame on you. Avoid this place, until they make some changes. read more

A Panera that goes above and beyond. After a long drive (to and from the beach) with frequent rest stops at some of the dirtiest gas station bathrooms (after a year of really only going in one grocery store for as little time as possible) - finding a Panera with the cleanest bathroom I'd seen all trip (including our VRBO), I was thrilled. Service was what you would expect from Panera (very friendly, but slightly chaotic if you've never been to one). There was tons of outdoor seating with some nice landscaping so you didn't feel like you were eating in a strip mall. Great experience over all. My one complaint was that they don't do quiet enough to stem the debris from getting blown off of the patio. It was a bit off putting to find napkins and straws around the plants. A slightly raised edging boarder would drastically cut this down. read more

Manager on shift was rude and belligerent to every customer that walked in. A customers soup spilled through their bag because the employee did not attach the lid all the way. The only bright spot in this Panera was the cashier, Haley! She was bright-eyed and bushy tailed with a peppy demeanor and a pleasant attitude. She helped us with our order, even explaining several menu items. Her chipper nature made us chuckle! While I waited for my hot chocolate, we bought some mini scones which were fresh and yummy, but the coconut macaroons were just fair, I would t get them again. My drink took well over 10 minutes to prepare, and it came out dripping all over the sides. When we asked the girl behind the counter to wipe it, she took it away to the back of the kitchen and disappeared for several minutes. When she came back, she had a surly attitude. We went back to Haley, and explained what happened. We left the drink there and got our money back. We let the manager know how helpful Haley was. Without her, I'm afraid this location would be sunk. I went to Panera for something quick and yummy but the Caesar salad was just lettuce with not fresh croutons and regular Parmesan cheese for that amount of money, not worthy. I was waiting at least the good and fancy cheese they used to serve on the salad. it is sad to see how the quality is worst and more expense every day. I can make a better salad at home. read more

Great national chain restaurant. Nice addition to Route US I-95 tourist's restaurants which cater primarily to Exit 92 travelers. Glad they landed in Ashland, Virginia. I ordered a sandwich with avocado on it, but there was no avocado. They just opened a few days ago, so hopefully they will improve Ashland Exit 92 on US I-95 has one of the best assortment of national and franchise restaurants in Virginia. We even have two McDonalds! They are all east of Historic Route US-1 so they are easy on and easy off of Route US I-95. However, still, to me the national and franchise restaurants are not as enjoyable as locally owned restaurants downtown located west of Historic Route US-1. Locally owned downtown restaurants have better variety and prices. Downtown is only a few blocks further off Route US I-95. read more

The reason for my 5 star review is due to the excellent customer service by the Manager, Kisha. We stopped at Panera for a pit stop on our way from the Outer Banks back to the DC area. Unfortunately, the women's restroom had a slippery floor, and I had slipped and fell as a result :( Once management became aware, Kisha immediately came over to me to make sure I was okay. Staff put up a wet floor sign and took care of the situation. I could tell that Kisha was genuinely concerned for my well being and took care of me and my family. We stopped in here off of I-95 on our way to the DC area. In general we prefer Panera to other chains for their general healthier offerings. My soup and bread bowl was very filling, and my wife enjoyed her protein bow. The clerk was a little too chatty for my taste (I realize he was being friendly, but hey I just want to order). Our stop served its purpose to satiate our hunger and get us back on the road. Parking was a little odd since there was limited parking up front, but we did drive to the rear next to what looks like an abandoned hotel. read more

My wife went through the drive through last night to get our girls some dinner. There was one other car in the drive through and it took 20 minutes to get her order. Inside the restaurant was not busy either. When my wife got home the order was wrong. Our oldest daughter has a cold and was really craving chicken noodle soup, which my wife ordered. Instead, Panera gave her mac and cheese. This is our 2nd poor experience at this location. Panera is by far my favorite breakfast place except for this location in Ashland! Today was the second time I've been there and I was hoping it was a better experience than my first time. This is the second time we have had our order incorrect - both times an ordered sandwich was missing. We live 6 miles from Ashland and did not discover the missing sandwich until we got home. I tried calling 4 times from 7 to 8 pm and my call was cut off. Finally, a woman answered the phone, I told her my name and about the missing sandwich. She said they were very busy and could not help me. She said to call back in an hour. What kind of service is his?
