I remember when the former general manager was there, the workers were treated well and happy. I am a very frequent and loyal Panera customer, but this location is a disappointment. There is no kiosk so ordering is rather laborious. The food is good, typical Panera quality, but the portioning -I speak of tonight, on the visit that has prompted me to review- is not consistent with your typical Panera experience. I purchased a salad with chicken and could hardly find the meat in it. I dug around intentionally and managed to find a few rather small pieces- probably about a total of one ounce. So, I give them a 3. I realize this improves the 2.4 ratiing average that they had before my review, so I don't feel bad making this issue public. I know everyone is trying to make a living, but there should be some portion standardization for the sake of consumers who are also trying to make good financial choices. This is a sad update, as this location has lost it's momentum from years ago. It is frequently understaffed, and the time to fill an order really reflects this. Even when not busy, you can wait quite some time for a breakfast sandwich. Portions here are so random as well. Sometimes you get the smallest piece of bread that goes with your breakfast sandwich (I order ciabatta bread typically). Other times, we have randomly had bad cuts of a cinnamon roll. This issue must stem from just a lack of consistent leadership, unfortunately. I'm certain they can turn things around, and they really need to with the competition of First Watch almost right next door. We always go to Panera in Apopka and food is always good, fresh and delicious. I always order the frontega chicken, and my daughter loves their cheddar broccoli soup. Spent 25 mins behind a car in the drive thru. They don't have people move forward they just keep the same car at the window the entire time despite a line of 15 cars. The sandwich was on a tomato like sweet bread... the top part of the slices were sweet which surprised me. The sliced turkey, bacon and tomato blended together deliciously. It filled me up well. 5 stars for a great business meeting location and customer service. 3 stars for food. Average of 4 stars because the customer service and meeting location is worth it. Better than Starbucks as a casual business meeting location. Why? Shorter lines, more and better quality food selection, and a seating section that is business friendly (i.e., tucked away from main dining and electric plugs for devices). I showed up at 8:00am for a 1-2 hour meeting that unexpectedly turned into 5 hours. Panera was not particularly busy, and the staff was as kind as anyone could wish. There was no problem with staying. I asked if we need to purchase something else or relocate to another establishment; the staff member said no. She even bused the table and refilled my drink glass for me, not typical services. Breakfast menu is limited. Plenty of fresh bakery choices to carb load. My muffin was good, not great, but moist and fresh. I stayed for lunch after the meeting. I chose from Panera's pick 2 menu: salad and a cup of soup. I had the broccoli, cheddar soup and the Southwestern chili lime salad. I would try the soup again but not the salad. The broccoli, cheese soup tasted of cheese and broccoli but was liberally seasoned with pepper. The amount of pepper placed the soup just on the border between acceptable and too much. Depending on your taste, the soup may be over seasoned. I don't mind a little extra heat or spice. I am unclear if this heavy-handed seasoning is "as the recipe intends" or a one-time accident. If you don't like pepper, I recommend asking before ordering. Looks can be deceiving. The Southwestern chili pepper lime ranch salad, the most expensive salad on the menu currently, was visually unappealing and disappointing as served; the salad appeared primarily comprised of lettuce, cheese, and avocado with limited other ingredients and little dressing. I was pleasantly surprised to discover a plethora of ingredients buried under the lettuce (i.e., chicken, corn, and tomatoes) and even a little too much dressing. I mixed the ingredients and was much happier than with my first bite. While I am accustom to mixing salads, I expect the ingredients on top of the mixed greens not vice versa. I could taste a little tang and heat from the chili pepper, lime dressing. Given the amount of dressing on the salad, the chili lime flavor was very mild. I also found large, mixed green stems in my salad - not pleasant to chew or taste. I dislike salads that are drowned in dressing. This one was not drowned, but it was drowning. The lettuce especially was having trouble "standing up" to the amount of dressing). The liberal dressing application was too close to drowning for my complete enjoyment. The French baguette served with soup was worthy of 5 stars at in a three Michelin star restaurant in a France. A crusty outside enrobes a soft bread center. The inside practically melted in my mouth. I ordered a toasted bagel and coffee on a Saturday morning when only about four people were in the place. I got a bagel with one corner toasted, I asked for the rest to be toasted. It was explained to me that if they toasted it again that corner would burn. So my options were a toasted bagel with one side burnt. Or an I toasted bagel with one corner toasted. And this seemed completely reasonable to the guy behind the counter. Buy a toaster that works! They were also out of regular coffee. Every time we order Rapid Pick Up from this place, something is incorrect, made wrong, or missing. Today's mess up included a grilled cheese sandwich which we paid extra for the cheese to be Gouda rather than disgusting American cheese. As you can see in the photo, it was still made with American cheese, and we also have this lovely burnt cheese included. This location doesn't care and a manager is never present: not to talk to paying customers, not to train, coach, or develop their team, and certainly not to make sales and order accuracy a priority. I'm a fan of Panera. Their food is consistently good. I'm always getting the same thing, more or less. I get the You-Pick-2 with French Onion soup and either Turkey Artichoke or Frontega chicken for my sandwich. It is just enough food and tastes oh so good with their lemonade. Yumm. This particular Panera is set up a little strange. Maybe because it has a drive thru (which is a great idea) but the seating inside is limited. In other Paneras they'll have comfy seats for sipping coffee and surfing the web. They'll also have space for meetings but this one has none of that. It's kind of a stripped down Panera. The food at this location was fine however when I had an issue the managerial staff and the treatment I received was so horrible that I will never spend another dollar with them again! My order was given to me incorrectly after I had specified some things needed to be left off the sandwich. When I went back and told the people at the counter I was treated like I was somehow inconveniencing them employees rolled their eyes one person called out another remake. At no point did the employees talk to me directly or tell me what the next steps were. Where are they remaking my sandwich? Would they bring it out to me? No one made any attempt to give me any information on how they were going to rectify the situation. When I finally asked directly if they were going to help me I was met with more eye rolling and told that I have to return back to the counter to get the sandwich. I spoke directly to the manager, Alexis, and she offered no apology for how I was treated or the lack of accuracy on my food order and walked off without completely hearing my concern. I walked in at 3:56 on a Saturday Afternoon. The building stands alone across from the WD on OBT in Apopka. Upon walking in there was a young lady at the register named Shana (I think I got it right) who belongs in the kitchen and not at the front counter. She needs some customer service training. Actually, I think she may have been getting trained by Kaycee as that is what is on my receipt...who was trying to be cheerful besides the grinch...er I mean Shana....They had cookies under the warmer and I asked how warm are they and she said "warm". So I elaborated, I mean warm as just out of the oven..been there 30 mins..what is warm? She then said they stay under a warmer....okay not a lot of info...then I ask if there are any shortbread cookies because I don't see them and she says "no". Okie dokie...I order comfort food as that is what I need right now with all this studying ....of mac n cheese ($4.60), turkey chili ($4.70)from the pic 2. She asked me what size, I didn't know you had a choice from the pic 2 but I said small...and of course she didn't miss the 99cent pastry offer with a dish...so I begrudgingly added the "warm" cookie. I added one small beverage ($1.99) and that was $13.08 total. I gave her my number so I can get my Panera credit and she put that in, accordingly. She gave me the pager and it was paging right after I got my beverage and grabbed a clean table. The mac and cheese was good but I would not move it to the great category. Honestly, it probably was not worth the calories to be honest. The turkey chili the same. Both were lukewarm and neither jumped out at me. I swapped the baguette for the chips..which now are only limited to plain or kettle. So what about the "warm" cookie you ask? It would have been warmer if we popped it in the microwave for 5 seconds. Nevertheless, I did eat it but again not worth the calories for me...anywho. For the beverage you have a choice from the fountain drink to the Iced Teas and it is refillable. One thing which honestly gave them an extra star was the young lady named Unique who would come by the table and ask if there is anything she can get for me with a smile...as she did for others. She was on point cleaning tables and serving customers with a smile. Of course, I visited the restroom which was clean 3 stars but not clean immaculate. The changing table was dirty, the paper towels were not stocked. There's always a long wait for food when I go and very minimal people actually making food. The food is always of very poor quality not to mention the half cut bread part of it is always missing or falling off. Someone please reevaluate this location and how they operate. They use old food when everything is supposed to be fresh everyday the tomatoes, blueberries are always moldy and lettuce wilting but still serving it to customers. Not all locations are created equally, in my eyes, but this particular location went above and beyond to make sure that my order was perfect. I always want to make sure my Thai salad comes without chicken or the special dressing they make it with and instead tossed in peanut sauce. Unfortunately for most locations they get it wrong.
