I had been greeted by a very friendly woman who promptly offered to take my order. I told her I was looking for a chinese restaurant to pick up food to eat at my hotel room. The bag weighed a ton, I ordered the sesame chicken dinner combo and an order of pan fried dumplings. It was amazing and there was so much food! I highly recommend this restaurant!

You won't find the Americanized dishes like General Cao's chicken, but you will find one of the best presented but also deliciously tasted Peking duck - one of the most recognizable and celebrated Chinese dishes. I also love that they serve many dishes in porcelain chafing dishes to keep food warm, as foods taste better when they are kept warm. My personal favorites: lobster steamed with egg, eggplant and string bean stir fry and happy family soup. The desserts are great too. Check out photos for more. Ambiance: This is the standout among Chinese restaurants in Michigan. Many Chinese restaurants are out-dated. It is like you step into restaurants in China in 1990s. This gives you a more current fine-dining experience atmosphere. The large video screen in the main dining room also allows you to customize the image or video for your occasion, should you choose to celebrate a special event there. Service: It is not top notch, but it is get job done. The servers are friendly. Noteworthy: There are two floors. You may not know there is a large 14 seats private dining room downstairs with large TV screen. Great for private celebration. There is an elevator that you can use for those who don't want to climb stairs. The 8-seat Majiang themed room is beautifully designed. There are also two small dining rooms perfectly for an intimate gathering. Final verdict: after visiting more than 10 times, this is a review long overdue! In my book this is the best Chinese fine dining experience in town. It caters to various your dining needs: dating, business meal, private events or just for some fine food!

The menu has something for everyone, whether you're very familiar with traditional Chinese food or just starting to explore beyond the usual takeout staples. It feels elevated without being intimidating, which is not always easy to pull off. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, with several private rooms for different types of gatherings. The drinks are excellent too, so it's not just a dinner destination -- it's a full evening kind of place. It can get busy in the evenings and on weekends, but that makes sense. Shiangmi is elegant, welcoming, and absolutely worth knowing about.
