Orange Chicken

This is perfect, though the noodles could be a little better. The service is great. And the inside is cozy with a history of the restaurant chain. The orange chicken is PERFECTION.

The entire chain has really gone down the crapper since Old Man Braum went to the Big Dairy Farm in…read morethe Sky, but this location is the worst. The floors feel like they are waxed with soda and corn syrup, the kitchen has the orderliness of a landfill, and the place moves at the pace of the Titanic. The drive-thru should be renamed the drive-sit. There has to be a hole in the ozone layer above this joint from cars idling while waiting for the wrong order to come to them.

I stopped here on a recent road trip down to the SE Kansas area. Our first two choices were closed,…read morewhich was surprising given it was lunch time on Sunday in a college town. The dine-in area here is pretty small, and on my visit it was filthy. It looked like two bus loads of toddlers had just eaten here and then finished off the meal by having a food fight. We found the cleanest table we could after ordering and wiped it off ourselves. I waited over 15 minutes for a fast food burger. After 10 minutes, I went up to ask for an update, thinking it had been forgotten about. The young manager looked like he couldn't have cared any less, and just said they were working on making fresh burgers. He split his time between the counter and hanging out at a table with a young woman and taking drinks from her drink. If your team is in the weeds and its taking this long to get food out, you should glove up and help them. Or maybe bus and clean some tables? Anything other than hang out with your girlfriend. When I finally received my burger, it looked like it had been dropped on the floor and then stepped on. The bun was smashed, the toppings were spilling out everywhere, and it just didn't look that good. Thankfully, it tasted way better than it looked. I want to love Braum's, but feel like this is how most of the interactions with this chain have gone.

McDonald's - I ordered a hot and spicy chicken sandwich and some how got this.

As one would expect they offer a wide array of hamburgers, from the basic single burger to the lavish "Quarter Pounder." The hungriest patrons might prefer the cleverly named "Big Mac," which boasts two all beef patties, a delightful special sauce, crisp lettuce, organic American cheese, farm raised pickles and onions, all carefully nestled on a sesame seed bun. And don't miss the french fries, which are shoestring cut, blanched in tap water, and deep-fried in an unidentified type of hydrogenated vegetable oil. Meals can be "super sized" for those with the heartiest of appetites. The menu is surprisingly large for a short-order restaurant though, featuring other items such as mechanically separated chicken part entrees like the "McNugget," which can be purchased in boxes of varying portion sizes and come with your choice of sauces encased in individual plastic serving containers. I have heard they offer a seasonal called the "McRib," made of savory chopped pork pieces and molded into a tender boneless rib sandwich at select locations. Given the special nature of this sandwich, it may only be offered in larger cities. Perhaps most exciting for caffeinated beverage consumers is the "McCafe," which one could explain as a coffee shop within the restaurant. Beverages include lattes, frappes, and simple coffee beverages served piping hot in cups with appropriate temperature warnings. This scintillating beverage concept has rendered Starbucks superfluous. Overall, I think these restaurants will remain successful though I wish the McCafe would serve spiked coffee beverages after noon.
