Love this place. The hidden treasure appetizer is incredible. Overall I've loved or liked everything. Prices can get a little expensive if you're conspiring it to like Chinese or Mexican. Things like the peppered steak you have to understand there is like 5 small parts of meat. The rest is mostly vegetarian covering the plate. Their fried rice is incredible. It's herby and has flavor instead of Chinese fried rice that is bland and just covered in soy. Feel few people work here and the cooks / owners are not American, so if you have a problem, just deal isn't it and don't come back if you don't like it. It's hard enough arguing with people that fully understand you. Just don't come back. Chances are you won't have that rare issue that some have and you will love it. My only downside here is they have carpet in the restaurant and idk, working at restaurants before I think it's a bit hard to keep clean. The food is really tasty, good portion sizes (big enough for leftovers), and they're really sweet in their service. read more

I picked up a to go order tonight for my wife and me. I ordered the duck curry (red curry with duck). I don't mind spicy, if I'm feeling froggy I will ask for "Thai hot", but I wasn't feeling it tonight so I asked for 3 out of five stars. What I got was unpleasantly spicy with zero flavor - just heat, didn't even have any flavor of coconut milk. I make Thai curries regularly (it isn't hard - heat coconut oil, fry the curry paste, add meat, vegetables, coconut milk, sugar, fish sauce, basil leaves and fresh lime). It's always a fight with the family over the spice level, because more curry paste means more flavor. What I got from Typhoon was not made with curry paste (if it was it would have had the flavor of Thai curry...) but it was NOT Thai curry. Maybe bad Chinese food pretending to be Thai? My wife had the Tom Yum Gai (soup). Very little chicken and worse flavor. She had diarrhea with an hour and a half. As a former restaurant owner I hate giving a bad review because I know how hard you work and how demoralizing it can be when you get a bad review from an, often as not, deranged customer having a bad day. I would definitely give a thumbs up to Typhoon Thai for the flavors of what we ate. We enjoyed the Pad Thai, the peanut sauce, the egg rolls and the Hidden Treasure appetizers very much. The Peanut sauce had a fresh taste. Also we got a complimentary cup of house soup too that had a nice ginger flavor. Our server carefully took our order to make sure they had it correct, repeating back what we ordered. The negatives are that it is an old building. There are some smells in the bathroom area. We were there at lunch time but it wasn't busy until a bit later. Still, our food took a while and we had to wait 5-10 mins from the time the first order was delivered until we got our last. I would definitely support this restaurant but come when you aren't in a rush. And be patient. read more

Restaurant was very dark and gloomy. Things looked old and dirty. Food was just ok. We got the Chicken Pad Thai, Beef Pad Thai, Green Curry, and the Spring rolls. The curry had a weird taste and did not taste like the green curry I have had from other places. The Pad Thai dishes was ok, but did not taste fresh. The spring rolls were over cooked and had a slight burnt taste. The man taking out order and serving us was very nice and polite, and was very attentive to our drinks and all the DoorDash people coming in. Pretty decent Thai food outside of a big city. They have a good selection of dishes, including duck, which you don't always see on many Thai menus, and they have some lunch specials (11:00-3:00). This has to be some of the worst food I have ever had. Not to mention the restaurant is FILTHY. My fiancé ordered crunchy pad Thai and it was basically a deep fried giant dry ramen rectangle with a scrambled egg and beef on top. The sauce smelled like urine and tasted just as bad. I had Pad Kee Moa. It was burnt and also had a strange smell and flavor. We didn't even try to get any of it down. Just paid for our food and left. read more

Doesn't look like it's much when driving by, when my family & I arrived it was empty so we didn't have high hopes. The first thing to come out was the crab ragoons and they were PHENOMENAL. Definitely some of the best I've ever had! Then after ordering we got this interesting rice soup, and we all scarfed it down!! It was so yummy!! Then I ordered wonton soup and it was definitely the best I've ever had, a large variety of veggies, with a delicious broth. Then came the food. Oh my goodness it was PERFFECTTTT!!! My dad got the volcano chicken and he absolutely loved it (and he's very picky), my mom couldn't keep her hands off his plate it was so delicious! Right on One of Pittsburg's Main Roads Lies a Good Little Thai Place. Never fear, Typhoon Thai Cuisine serves up good entrees and appetizers for when you find yourself in Southeast Kansas. It's a small joint, so be on the lookout. And thank goodness you can get your Thia-fix almost anywhere in Kansas. We started our meal with their Crab Rangoons ($5), five rangoons made with crabstick and cream cheese, wrapped in wonton skins, deep fried, and served with sweet and sour sauce. I think there are two camps divided by sweet versus non-sweet--I like both and these are on the latter. I think they may use real crab because my buddy seemed to be having some difficulty eating them, with an itchy throat, but kept on eating! They were good. I also ordered their Fresh Spring Rolls ($5), two "delicately-sized" rolls made with fresh lettuce, carrots, cabbage, and avocado, wrapped in soft rice paper, and served with a light peanut sauce with a hint of chili pepper. I love these things, they are hard to mess up and Typhoon makes them good. Typhoon's entrees come spiced on a scale of one to five. I like spice, but not to the level that it overwhelms my taste buds and I'm sweating while eating. So I went with a two and could taste the spice and was not bothered by it at all. They also came with a cup of their rice soup, which was a little bland and needed some of their smoked chili sauce--but not too much because it is hotter than Hell, holy crap. I honestly only used two drops of it and it was real spicy. I ordered the Kung Pao ($9), a choice of meats (chicken this time) sautéed with celery, bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, onions, peanuts, in a sweet chili sauce. I loved it--very flavorful and a good balance of meat to vegetable ratio and the vegetables were cook great and retained a little crisp. My buddy ordered the Pad Kee Moa (Drunken Noodles, $10), a sautéed rice noodle with a choice of vegetarian or meat, egg, chili, bamboo shoots, broccoli, bell peppers, and basil leaves. He went with the chicken and said he ALWAYS orders the same thing, so there you have it. Overall, Typhoon is a good place to grab Thai food. My only mild-complaint, really just an irk, stems from needing something to sop up the delicious sauce while eating the dish--you really need additional rice because they do not give you enough. I asked for another small bowl of rice and they charged an additional $1.50; no big deal, but white rice is cheap and I've never been to a Thai, Chinese, or similar-type of restaurant where they charged extra for rice. Anyway, don't let that stop you, just be aware, and enjoy the great food. read more

ROTTEN FOOD....My Granddaughter and I stopped for lunch on the 14th of October 2020. We were traveling so we got it to go. We are both vegetarians so we ordered Vegetable Pad Thai. Within 20 minutes we were both throwing up. We were so sick and stayed that way til the next day. We had to stop to use a restroom and when we got back in the car where our leftovers were the whole car smell of beef my Granddaughter said dog food and I could not disagree. As soon as we got rid of the food the smell was gone. When I called the next day the owner just laughed, when I asked her to refund my money. She said she would call me back and never did. Rude owner or cook. I asked for my meal with no eggs as I'm allergic. This was for carry out. I went home opened my food...eggs. I called in and politely asked them to remake it. I told them I would bring it back. Whoever cooked it started yelling at the server that she made sure not to put any eggs in it and that I was wrong. I had to show them the egg, and THEN they made it. Only when I got there. So I waited 15 more minutes for my food. No apology except from the server. The server was very polite though!!! Very respectful. But man... what a horrible way to treat a customer. I will not be coming back. Their food is so-so. It's not good, it's not awful. We have been a regular patron of this restaurant for over 5 years. Unfortunately, this ends today. Our server was very nice, but definitely not trained, nor did he seem to have any server experience. He never cleared one plate and we ordered two appetizers. The portions wouldn't fill up a 5 year old. There we less than 6 pieces of chicken in my kung pao. My son ordered extra chicken for $2.00. I'd hate to see what the regular portion was. 8 small pieces of chicken (ea smaller than McDonald's chicken nuggets) for $14.95. Yikes! Place is cluttered and the carpet needs to go. Sad. Let me start out saying that me and my wife did like this restaurant. We never had an issue there, my wife would always order the curry and I would order the pho. I finally got her into pho and she craves it now because she's pregnant. We both ordered the pho because I craved it and she did also. We walked in and there were only three tables that didn't have dirty dishes at them and we were the only ones in the restaurant. My wife asked the server if they had a rush and he nonchalantly said no I was eating. We both ordered pho and when he brought it out, my wife noticed it had that smell that meat had gone bad. It didn't taste good, there were brown pieces of romaine lettuce which isn't typically in pho but it's a Thai place. We then asked to talk to the manager or cook after we had told the server about it. It took about 3 times of him going back and forth before the cook/manager came out. When my wife asked the server if that's how the lettuce is supposed to look would you eat it, he ate it right off my wife's plate and also proceeded to try some of the beef from the pho. The server and cook both argued back with us and needless to say we are never going back again. It's sad because we both liked this place a lot. I've only ever ordered their beef noodle soup, but it is so good that I don't feel the need to order anything else! :) They do a great job of actually making the food spicy - they have you indicate a spice level from 1 (not hot) to 5 (really hot) and if you get the 5 - it is truly SPICY! They always give me a funny look and try to talk me out of it when I order it, but I really love spicy foods, and combined with that soup, it's my favorite soup in the world. And they give you so much of it that it's enough for two meals. I've gone with several friends who've gotten other items, and they've always been pleased too. You may be surprised and a little unbelieving that Pittsburg would have a good Thai restaurant, but it is fantastic and if you live in town and haven't been yet - you should really go! read more

I was initially hesitant to try this restaurant out after reading a review that was posted less than 24 hours before actually eating at the restaurant, stating how bland the food was and how they had given up on the food. However, the food overall was very tasty and spicy. We ordered the Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles), which were both spicy (level 3) and made with authentic Thai flavor. I can see why one review stated how their dishes may be overwhelmed with Thai peppers and spices, however the food is cooked with authentic flavors making it not overbearing to eat. Having eaten Thai food other cities, the food here was pretty good for a small college town. It's definitely a restaurant to try if you're looking for a good, flavorful dish. The prices for certain dishes is comparable to most restaurants! read more

I love this Thai food restaurant. The vegetables taste fresh, they have great peanut chicken, and they sell boba tea.

It makes me sad knowing that I have gone so long without ever trying this place. I was really missing out! Typhoon has excellent food and a great team of employees. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed and seated immediately. The waiter handed us our menus and was quick to take our drink orders. Soon after the drinks were delivered and we ordered our meals. Before the food was prepared we were given complementary chicken and rice soup. The small cup of soup was delicious! I ordered the Chicken Kung Pao with level one spice. You can order zero through level 5 of spiciness. One is considered mild. I am not always a huge fan of heat so I didn't want to overdo it. It was sweet with just the tiniest hint of spice. I think I am going to go a level or two up next visit. The chicken was served with steamed rice, a spring roll, and crab rangoon. AMAZING Thai food! Located right on Broadway, on the South end of town near the college. You might drive right past it if you weren't looking for it. Consistently good food every time we go. When we go to Pittsburg 35 miles away, there are so many restaurants to choose from. I used to like the food at Typhoon Thai. I have been pleased every time I've been there. The presentation of the food and flavor were always impeccable. But not today. I ordered my usual tasty Baby Corn and Mushroom lunch. This time it was tasteless and overwhelmed with baby corn. The chicken pieces looked unappetizing, even scary. And there appeared to be none of the usual sauce, so that's probably why it had no flavor. I don't know if I'll be back. There are too many excellent restaurants in Pittsburg to put up with underwhelming food. Looking at another review from this month, from another regular, it definitely looks like someone else has noticed the change, and definitely not for the better. Love this place! The food is super good but very Thai; don't expect a lot of meat if you're a big meat eater (but you can get extra if you ask and for a fee!). The sauces are heavenly though; I'm a big curry fan and their curry is to die for. The crab ragoons are great too, and their duck soup, yum yum! The servers are very nice but are not super fast, so make sure you aren't in a rush otherwise you might be held up longer than you wanted to. Overall, great add to a small college town! read more
