Came to this establishment at 8:20pm expecting the drive-thru to be still open since they close at 9, an employee was inside, and in-room dining was not available. I waited at the still lit menu for 5 minutes before driving by the window and seeing an employee standing there. IF you were closed early you could have let me know to save me some time. What I believe happened is the employee purposely ignored the drive-thru so they can close up early for the night, not shocking considering the drive-thru service I have received before. I do not normally dine here nor do I normally leave reviews, but how annoying is it to pull up to a restaurant that is open but not get any service?? read more

This location is HORRIBLE! Save yourself the headache and go to one of the other establishment in Carbondale for Chinese food. The "children" that work there have no customer service skills AT ALL! They can't even do something as simple as greet guests as they enter the establishment let alone have fresh food available. The employees ALL appear to be robots with no emotion but at least robots would be able to follow simple inputs like "greet customers as they enter the establishment". This is my second time trying Carbondales Panda Express and again this experience was horrible. I can't even get past the ordering phase because they either don't have what you like or the attitudes are completely out of line and misplaced. If corporate or the franchisee isn't going to close this location after the countless one star reviews, the least they could do is hire a COMPLETELY NEW STAFF with standards and at least some inclining of customer service skills. Good - vegetables were not over cook . Bad - you get very little food. We ordered 2 orders- 2 entrees and rice. $17 .I only got 2 pieces of beef with my broccoli beef . Both of our to-go boxes were leaking from the grease/sauce and our carryout bag was filled with that same substance. They forgot to give us a side of teriyaki sauce (which we ordered). A minor thing would be no exit statement like "have a good day". Lastly, they didnt give us much fried rice like other places we have gone to. Overall it was mediocre service. I used to go here all the time, but lately it's been horrible. They hardly have any food anymore. They are always out of items. Literally everytime I go there they are always out of something, and it could be at noon (they open at 11). I had to go inside and request my food. The lady stated she was trying to get someone to run it out to me. The assembly line people are pretty slow which takes time so it's understandable. One of the front lady's was extremely rude asking people what they would like. Her words were "what do you want" with an attitude behind it. Granted this place opened only a couple weeks ago. Portions are wrong too, every panda I've been to gives more than this one. Only 3 dishes prepared, and when they ring you up and tell you it will be four minutes on a fresh batch of what ever it is realistically 15-20 minutes, unless they have forgotten your order then prepare for 30 minutes wait. Food is ok, and one of the least caloric option for fast food Chinese. I will most likely never return as this is the third bad experience with this location. My wife and I have dined at the Panda Express in Central Illinois (Decatur/Effingham) many times and found the food quality and proportions very satisfying. We quickly became fans of this chain restaurant. We visited the Carbondale store and the first time it was just average. Our second visit however, was very disappointing. My wife and I ordered two entrees, (Kung Pao Chicken and Honey Sesame Chicken). Both serving trays were too empty to fill both orders and instead of ordering fresh the worker went ahead and filled the order. The food was luke warm and had an old taste. I usually do not write reviews but this was bad enough that I felt I must. I Tried to go through the drive thru early on a Sunday evening only to sit without moving for nearly ten minutes when there were only two cars ahead of me. I finally pulled out of the driveway and went inside to order. I counted at least eight employees milling around the front counter that I could see yet service was still very slow and they were out of many items and said they would not be making more. There were still several hours left until they closed so being out of their most popular dishes and refusing to replenish is not a way to win or keep customers. The counter help was sullen with an attitude that screamed she hates her job. The food was not good enough to make up for poor service and poor management. For only being open a short time this restaurant is headed for the doors to close sooner rather than later unless they get new management and new training immediately. I doubt if I'll go back and won't recommend it to anyone. read more
