Was at the Carbondale location today about 12:50. There was a line which is fine, only one employee working behind the counter. She was taking orders out when another employee walks up and she asked him to take orders. When she comes back up she gets herself a drink and ignores the customers waiting. Filthy, incredibly apathetic and sloooow. Trash overflowing, uncleared tables and sticky floors. Cashier was uncommunicative and cooks in the back were ... I don't know what they were doing. No one ahead of us or through the drive-through, so they weren't busy. Do not recommend. read more

When you didn't meal plan this week. :( I needed to grab something quick so I stopped by here. Despite Covid, the service was quick and a reasonable price. They do wear mask and I wear mines as well. Ordered food, asked if they would be able to find us outside to which they replied yes. Proceeded to wait over 20 minutes to walk back inside and find our now cold food just sitting on a shelf. Luckily I saw the hair in my sandwich before I took a bite; the last time I went with my mom, she was not so fortunate. Not sure why they don't wear hairnets but they clearly need to. Also, they are never short on workers but are always so slow, plus only start to clean tables once a majority of them are full of dishes and trash. Never, ever going back. Get your shit together. Not that McAllisters are over the top amazing, but there was nothing about this one that set it over the top. It got very busy after we ordered and sat down just after 12 pm today, my co worker and I. We decided on this place for lunch on our way to the airport after our business concluded in the morning. I ordered a pepper jack cheese turkey sandwich, which was good, and my co worker ordered a bowl of chicken tortilla soup, which she always orders. The food is always good. Very filling and never subpar...very consistent. This experience was just ho hum. Any McAllisters experience is always either 3 or 4 stars to me. The food as good similar to Panera in choice, quality and price. The atmosphere was very modern. The place was not busy tonight, but tables were dirty and not being cleaned. There was a lady cleaning the dining room floor this was the same person running the cash register, the only person interacting with customers. She was not very helpful in pointing out menu questions. She threw the credit card and did not say anything to us when we completed our order. Not rude but also not helpful and no customer service attitude. I later asked for a to go container and she handed it to me without a word. I don't think I said anything to upset her, but this treatment made the experience less than good. I won't return to this establishment. read more

I mean, it's a chain. It's pretty standard. The service is kind of slow, but they're friendly and helpful albeit a little condescending. ("Are you sure you want a whole sandwich? They're SOOOO big?" -glares- Yes. I want all of it. But thanks for making me feel bad about it). The sweet tea is good. The pricing is fair- kind of the "top end" of fast food. This is a review for the Marion location. My husband ordered the BTLA. There was hardly anything on the sandwich. Not good. I got a half French Dip and broccoli cheese soup. I wanted the bagguet with my soup, all I got was a sandwich roll cut in half for a sandwich. We haven't had good luck at the Marion location. The Carbondale location is much better. Decided to have a light supper and was happy to see their dining room open. The food was good- hot stuff was hot, cold stuff was cold and the tea- well the tea was perfect. However what made our visit the most enjoyable was the lady(pink shirt with dark braided hair)that was behind the counter. I regret we did not get her name but she was a rockstar. Waiting on everyone with a verbal smile (since she was properly wearing a mask) and then delivering the food to the table with pleasantries. It was easy to see they were understaffed but she did not let it show. She was managing it all with ease and we thanked her for doing so as we know her job can be a thankless one at times. I placed an order to be delivered, when I received the order the hot sandwich was cold and I was missing my dessert(aBrookie) when I called to tell the manager about it she asked me if I wanted to come pick up the Brookie. Duh if I wanted to pick it up I wouldn't have had it originally delivered. She offered no real solution besides a meal card for her location only. That wouldn't do me a bit of good because I am from out of town and no telling if I will return to this area. You would think with all the a fees and charges for delivery she would of tried to fix the issue. I once loved this place, and I would frequently eat here multiple times a week. It was also a Sunday tradition for my family to go to McAlisters. I'm not sure what has happened lately, but it has been extremely unclean lately. I'm vegetarian and I no longer order salads because I keep finding pieces of ham and chicken. First time at MacAlister's food was great and service very friendly. I had the Horseradish Roastbeef and Cheese with coleslow, wife had the soup and salad. Food was hot, fast, and very tasty. Couple of things: The coleslaw was a bit bland, but nice and fresh. The pickle was more of a new york style (a bit too cucumber and less pickled than I prefer, my son's (nacho with cheese dip) cheese had a bit of a film on top (just age). I asked for extra pickles and they gave me an extra spear. The unsweetened ice tea was fresh and large. The total bill was around $24 making it a touch more than what I expected, given the portions. Overall great food, nice friendly staff, clean. More like 4.5 stars but cannot select that. read more

McAlisters are pretty standard deli fare. I do like being able to pick 2 selections in half size portion. I picked broccoli cheese soup and the ultimate nachos. Both were ample size. This is definitely one of the better lunch options in Carbondale if you're looking for something fresh, tasty, and with a great variety. I would Highly recommend the Savannah Chopped Salad, it's one of my favorites and never disappoints. They have great service with staff coming by to take empty plates and fetch refills throughout the meal. The only reason they didnt get 5-Stars is because they often get slammed and the line can be substantial, additionally they also tend to get packed full around the same time and can be noisy. Other than those two things, this is always one of my top picks for lunch in Carbondale. read more

The food is decent, but for the price I'd much rather go to Panera. The price is high for mediocre food. The restaurant is always clean, and the staff is friendly in my experience. Okay - don't laugh... this is my first time going to a McAlister's ( I normally haunt Jason's Deli). I like the LCD menu screens. A lot of choices for sandwiches, soups and salads. The reubens are very good with high quality rye bread. The Southwestern Cobb was pretty good too, although the chicken was a little watery/water logged. Their tea and lemonade are excellent. Very clean and streamlined. The manager came around to say Hi and make sure we had everything we needed. read more

When it comes to service, this place is great. The staff were very friendly and made sure that everyone had refills and were happy to take plates. My only drawback was the portion sizes were on the small side of things. I had the Chicken Tortilla soup which comes with tortilla chips and chives on top. Mom had the pecan berry salad and I did the 1/2 spud with grilled chicken and 1/2 Cesar salad... Both orders were plenty tasty and the service was delivered by a bubbly clerk. The only problem was: it was late in the day, and whoever thinks the air needs to be set as high as it was earlier is mistaken (too cold in here now that the sun has set) and the crew didn't clean the dining room as quickly as I would have liked... But I am a former restaurant manager and I have higher standards! Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would highly recommend this place! Are they only located in southern IL?
