Panera is Panera. You know exactly what you are going to get and it's the same anywhere you go. Generally, I think Panera food is too expensive for what it is, but it's a lighter spot when traveling. This Panera really stood out because of the service. The woman taking my order helped me with a deal I had on my account. Very friendly and personable. When my food was ready, I realized that they rung in the wrong sandwich. The kitchen fixed it immediately. They also had clean bathrooms and a ton of space inside. On Saturday, 4/25/2026 at approximately 8:15 AM, my fiancé and I stopped by Panera Bread on DeYoung St. in Marion, IL for a quick breakfast. What we experienced was unacceptable, and I feel it's important to speak on it. When we entered, there was a woman cutting bagels and a male manager moving back and forth behind the counter. Neither of them greeted or acknowledged us. We initially gave the benefit of the doubt and assumed they were busy, so we took time to decide what we wanted to order. Still, no one spoke to us or asked if we needed assistance. While we stood there waiting, another couple came in, looked around, and ultimately left without being helped. Shortly after, an elderly couple entered, walked up to the counter, and were immediately greeted and assisted by the same employee who had ignored us. At that point, we were completely taken aback. Throughout this entire time, the manager continued walking back and forth without acknowledging us. When I finally spoke up, the woman looked directly at me and smirked. I then moved to the pickup counter and asked another employee for the general manager's contact information. She immediately smiled, called the manager over, and told us he would assist shortly. We could hear him complaining about being busy and not having time for this. When he came to the counter, I asked for the general manager's name and number. He did not ask how he could help or why we were requesting the information. His only response was, "The name is on the door of the restaurant." I took photos of the employee and the posted information on the door, then contacted Panera's customer service line (855-372-6371) to file a complaint and requested a return call. As of today, I have not received any response. I am sharing this because this type of behavior is unacceptable. I usually order on the app and pick up at the drive thru. There's no where on the app to indicate that I would like easy ice so I normally tell them at the speaker. The last several times the employee informed me that they had honored my request, only for me to get down the road and discover I've paid $5 for mostly ice. It's infuriating. So, we decided after some time to go into Panera because we love their sandwiches and the last time we had their pizza. Well, no more pizza. So, we decided to get the pick 2 which we thought would make a difference. Nope same price. I got the chicken bacon avocado sandwich and the broccoli cheese soup with bread. The bread was stale and very hard to pry apart. The sandwich crust was so hard that i had to yank on it so hard that my fillings fell out. Very disappointing. Later i went to leave a comment with the young lady behind the counter and she asked me if i needed to order anything. I responded and said no i jus.... ok next person in line. The first time she took our order she was very pushy. I figured it was because her friends were sitting in the dining area. The reason i came to this conclusion is because the whole time we were there she was giving one swipe of a rag on the tables then going back and hanging out with them. The food is okay, but it is always so disgusting inside. You can walk around the entire place and you would be very lucky if you were able to find one clean table/seat. There's food all over the floor and it just looks awful every time I visit. Very rude staff. I've gone to many Paneras in the country but this was the first one I won't be returning too. The food was normal. But the service was atrocious. I was meeting up for a lunch yesterday and it had posted that carryout was still open. Well when we went inside we were immediately shouted at you can't be in here. I understand the new restrictions due to Covid. So my date made a comment to me that she wondered how the people eating outside got their food and we proceeded to walk outside. The worker followed us outside and started shouting that people follow the rules and go through the drive through or they do curbside. The Panera in Marion Illinois is not one of the chains good examples. I have eaten at a number of panera's overtime and they have always been excellent, or at least above average. Almost every single item has cheese so if you have a milk allergy, don't go there. I did order a salad with no cheese and chicken and ended up paying the same price for a full salad. I have been to a whole lot of Panera's but I have never had such a bad experience with them we were missing over half our food out of the 18 items .We had purchased $110 worth of food with not just missing items random salads that were nothing like the salads we ordered .Though the staff was ok a little bit pushy but ok I would never come back. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch today around 3:15 pm. I ordered the half sandwich with soup and a drink. I had the Italian sandwich. It had very little meat and lots of finely minced giardinera. Bread was good but it needs more meat. Soup was the cheddar and broccoli. It tasted good but was only warm. Unsweetened tea was a bit bitter. Had a bearclaw for dessert and it was very good. Place looked very clean as well as the bathrooms. Nice outdoor patio! Did not have coffee but noticed one was marked 12 pm and the other was 2:15. Not sure if those were brew times or discard times. Not only good food but compassion as well. I live in Chicago and my mom drives round trip Arkansas/Chicago a few times a year for the last 17 years, stopping in Marion over night to rest up. This time she caught a flu bug and was bed ridden in her hotel room all alone. I reached out to the catering manager to see if I could possibly get some soup delivered to her hotel room. She was so kind and understanding, she made the delivery herself. The soup did the trick and 24 hours later my mom is feeling better and on her way home. Food is good. However, the last order before today was carry-out and I fiund a hair in my sandwich. Today's lunch tasted good but we had a few issues as far as service. Manager took our order. Asked if it was to eat there then didn't listen to the answer and asked again. Asked if we wanted pastries. We answered "no". Again, she didn't listen and charged us for them. There also was a miscommunication as far as what I thought I ordered and what she thought I ordered. All in all, food has been good. The hair thing was troubling. EXCELLENT food and service. Always tastes delicious. The restaurant is very clean and great service. They actually asked me if I liked the sandwhich I didn't only because the sauce was not to my liking. They immediately gave me a new one. Love the pastries too.
