We stop in Marion when traveling to visit family and occasionally have lunch. McAlister's is on the meal list. The staff is always helpful and friendly. My wife had the Pecanberry Salad and I had the Horseradish Roast Beef & Cheddar. The food was delivered promptly and as always we weren't disappointed. We have been constant customers of McAllister's for years. More so under GrubHub these days. We have found that when placing our orders, they never seem to be correct. Of course, when the GH person picks it up, it is not their job to confirm the order is correct - just to pick it up & deliver it. I submit the orders myself on GH app so I know what I order. Pretty simple. Pickle. No Pickle. Cookie. 2 Cookies. Basic requests. If it is incorrect, I cant call GH for help or McAlister's as being elderly, all they want to do is give me a coupon I have to come in to pick up. If it was that easy to come in, I wouldve done so rather than order thru GH. What I end up doing is contacting GH & letting them know my order was not in full or missing something. They then give me a partial refund & the delivery person still has their tip. Reality says it's not GH's error to fix & pay for. Any thoughts on this as Im positive Im not the only customer this happens to. read more

terrible experience and we didn't even get to eat there. tried to place a mobile order on the app but it wasn't working so we called the restaurant on two separate occasions. second time the girl on the phone rudely told us she was busy and hung up. ended up waiting in line for over 15 minutes and watched as the people in front of us weren't even being served. terrible service overall. read more

I stopped at McAlister's deli for the first time yesterday in Marion Illinois. I've recently moved to the area. I ordered the 6 inch Cuban style sandwich. It was good, but it was $11 Plus tax. We visited today for lunch. The food was good, but the ambiance was better IMO. So many business in this area bombard their customers with country music, sometimes mixing it up with western music as well. It's so ubiquitous that I usually wear headphones when shopping or dining alone just to keep my sanity. McAllister's was different today - they had rock music playing. Normally this wouldn't be remarkable - at all, "classic rock" runs a distant third in the music choices in most establishments. This wasn't your normal classic rock, though - they played Alice Cooper (!) and Yes (!!) in the mix. To be honest, I was surprised and pleasantly so. So just for that, I recommend this place - if you're tired of the steady syrup flow of twang flooding your brain, have recently discovered you're fiddle-intolerant, or just want a break from the endless banality of the latest CMA award winner on repeat, come here. Just like a Panera bread, but with a more country atmosphere and HUGE portions. Their menu is huge! and they get really busy during lunch time. They have the you pick two just like Panera. They have huge bake potatoes that you will never be able to finish in one sitting. I would say that their menu caters more to the people who are less concern about their waistlines, while Panera is very much into smaller portions and healthier ingredients. That's probably why I like Panera more. Their soups are awesome! Especially the chicken and dumplings. Best I've tried so far in this area. They are famous for their sweet tea, and drinks come in one size, LARGE! The people are friendly and they call your name out, walk up to you, and hand you your food personally, but the service is a little slow during lunch time. Just warning you now. it took them 30 minutes to prepare a Togo order. A lady came 5 minutes after me and ordered a to go order, they called her name within 10 minutes and gave her food quickly. however according to the cashier I should have known they wouldnt say my name ( his favorite thing to say is it's written over there, he said that too when I didnt see the sign that said no spuds) . apparently they can say one to go orders name of a lady sitting near me but not mine. they chose to put my food on the shelf that people normally call in orders for pick up. I would have been fine if he was just kind and would have apologized. he needs to choose a different career path. if you want rude customer service and a chance you have to wait 30 minutes for food this a good place for you. read more

Service was pretty good, except for the dodo cashier who saw me as first in line and called over the lady who was two behind me. The girl who waited on me was really nice and when I said I wasn't really hungry, suggested half of a veggie club. Didn't get way too much food, and the bill was less than $5. So far, so good. Here's where it starts to go a little sideways...I had called before choosing the place to make sure they had wifi because I had some work on the computer I needed to do. Well, I spent more time trying to maintain my connection than I did working. Ugh! Then my sandwich arrived and the bread was burnt. Just a little black, not all the way to ashes but still. Really excellent deli food. They also have a dinner menu with a lot of comfort food selections, served in a very clean crisp deli setting. The interior is gorgeous, almost like an outdoor summer picnic indoors. Price is a little bit higher than one might except, but remember, you are dining on The Hill, on fine food. read more

Road tripping with 2 kids had us looking for some places along the route that are not your typical fast food joint. We happen to pull off 57 looking for a Panera and stumbled upon this place, decided to give it a go and glad we did. Portions are large, my salad was fresh and the girl who waited on us was so pleasant! Bathrooms were clean which is a hugeee plus in my book since I have a daughter that likes to test out every restroom we stop at. Only thing I didn't love was my parmesan kale soup. A group of friends and I were driving back home and decided to stop at McAlister's. I was getting food and so was my girlfriend. I got a jalapeño crunch sandwich and she wanted soup. We asked about the chicken tortilla soup and the cashier said "I have no idea what is in that". She didn't offer to check or figure it out, she just decided it was best to ignore it and remain lazy ( my girlfriend has allergies and this was the reason for the question). The food was fine for the most part. One person in our group got chicken noodle and when it came out, it was really dark and looked like beef. We asked about it and a different waiter offered to check it out. He brought us a new soup but told us they were both chicken noodle but he didn't know what happened to the 1st soup. He was kind as he made it fresh but it was still disgusting that the first person to scoop the soup did not care that what they had scooped out was horribly unappetizing. The entire time waitresses were yelling in the kitchen at one another and discouraging one another from checking up on us because it would "cause the customers to stay in store longer"...it was 8 and the store closed at 9. All in all a bad experience with decent food. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone stopping by as there are options that would offer a safer and more pleasant experience. read more

Something is wrong between the person taking the phone call and the Staff putting the order together. Once or even twice maybe an honest mistake but ALL 5 orders? I had repeated bad experiences here where meat was found in supposedly meatless dishes. I am almost certain that salad mixing bowls were not getting cleaned. I returned here today to see if anything had changed. During a brief discussion with the lady taking my order, I discovered that they had recently replaced a large portion of the kitchen help. I ordered a garden salad which was excellent. Fresh crisp greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, and absolutely no meat! If they keep this up, I will definitely return to my once weekly routine of eating at McAlisters. McAlisters offers a large selection of vegetarian items which are conveniently marked with a tomato symbol. They also have great sweet tea and the best chocolate chip cookies. read more

Reuben sandwiches are delicious and the manager, Perry goes above and beyond for great customer service! My wife brought me the Reuben sandwich all the way to Christopher, and there was no sauerkraut. I was pretty upset, called and spoke to the manager, Perry and he personally drove all the way to my shop in Christopher with a new sandwich!! Highly recommended!! This place has decent deli / sandwich options for the Southern IL area. Although a bit pricey, the food is tasty and the portions are very generous. Try the sweetened ice tea, which is their signature drink. The Pick 2 is a very good option if you cannot finish their huge sandwiches. read more

On this occasion I was unfortunate enough to have ordered McCalister's ill-conceived and poorly executed French Dip Sandwich. This loosely interpreted French Di p Sandwich proudly features cheddar cheese. It should be noted that for the industry standard of "French Dip" Sandwiche, Poorly conceived menu ideas. Poorly executed, loosely interpreted food items. Avoid the French Dip sandwich. For some reason this chain thinks that the aforementioned sandwich should for some reason, utilize cheddar cheese, in lieu of the traditional Swiss. Dumb. Also, avoid the fruit cup, as it is little more than canned "seasonal" fruits sloshed together in as haphazard a manner as possible. All in all, avoid the chain, avoid the inevitable intestinal pain, and avoid this restaurant. read more

Well here is the good the bad & the ugly. Good: Usually very consistent food. Good flavor and nice choices. Bad: Not everything is awesome = Ugly: Ordered the Veggie Club. Worst sandwich as it was 80% bread, and literally about 2 ounces of veggies, and a ultra thin spread of avocado. My wife took all the veggies off of each layer and put it on one slice of bread... what a joke! All for $7.00. Shame on McAlisters for poor value and a lousy sandwich. Southwest Griller= not so good either. Bottom line: They have some good choices, such as the New Yorker = lots of meat, very simple but flavorful. Baked Potatos= usually good and filling. Sweet Tea = Made from real tea and not sickening sweet. Usually slower service, but made to order so that is understandable. I like McAlisters, but only certain choices. Tried to widen out but not everything is a home run. They do strike out at times. read more
