There were a lot of Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood, so I've systematically been trying them. I've passed this place so many times over the course of five years since my friend moved here. However, it seemed like I saw them more with the rolldown metal security door down than it was up. Was their wok-prepared food worthy of a king's ransom and our raging appetite!? PURCHASE(S) [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 2.5 of 5.0 STARS] Onion Rings ($4.65): A portion of equally-shaped small rings that very much looked like calamari, these were warm, lightly browned, crispy, and had no tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (not sweet Maui) didn't pull out. These were straight from the Costco freezer! Homemade Sweet Tea 22floz ($3.25 x2): Sweeter than expected, this large portion was actually refreshing and paired well with the food. Wonton Chips (COMP x2): Kind of stale, but it was fine. Vegetable Egg Roll ($2.35 x2): Crunchy hot stout thick egg rolls packed with various fresh veggies, I could've eaten more. Steamed White Rice Small/1pt ($2.65 x3): Hot, steamy, fluffy, and very much needed. Wonton Soup Small/1pt ($3.95): Five pork-filled tender wontons in a warm broth, this was perfect for a cold evening. Egg Drop Soup Large/1qt ($6.35): A ton of egg but low in flavor, the orangish color kind of threw me off, but the hint of lemongrass was nice. Roast Pork Fried Rice Small/1pt ($6.95): Minimal pork and vegetables, seemingly small pieces of rice, and low on flavor, this was a disappointment. Vegetable Lo Mein Small ($7.95): The noodles were soft but not mushy while the minimal amount of vegetables were fresh and not overly drenched in sauce. Roast Pork Chow Fun Small ($8.35): Minimal pork and other ingredients and flavors while the noodles were limp and weak. Shrimp w/Cashew Nuts Small/1pt ($9.50): More cashews than medium shrimp, this dish was too nutty for us. Beef w/Broccoli Small ($9.95): Very good balance of ingredients and flavors, the beef was perfectly soft versus crispy a la Panda Express, another winner. General Tso's Chicken Large ($15.75): With a nice amount of spicy sauce and moist tender big chicken pieces, this was the start of the entire order. SERVICE I placed the order online, it said it would be ready in about 30 minutes, we arrived on time but they needed about another ten minutes, and once it was all ready, I paid and off we went. Everything was straightforward and easy-breezy - xiè xie! PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance): This was a moot point since I walked the flat 5-minute distance. No parking lots in sight, there seemed to be plenty of spots along the main drag of Baldwin Ave. and all surrounding side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A simple square layout dominated by the front order counter and worn menu pictures up along the top edges of the walls directly above. There was a table for four inside and barely any decorations. It pretty much was a takeout kind of place. Plenty of natural and electric street lighting came through the front door and windows while minimal electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs nor any background music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I was happy to finally take King's Wok off of my bookmark list, and I'd consider giving them another try. The food was decent to very good at best (just needed more flavor, more ingredients, and some love), the portion sizes were good, the prices were very affordable, and the service was as minimal as it needed to be, which was fine. The menu was expansive, so there were plenty of other items to try, so I would more than likely give them another shot, but with lowered expectations. Plus, I always preferred to support small mom & pop businesses. I found fairly good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $94.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). I got it with brown rice (there was no extra charge for brown rice, finally!) and it was seriously enough for two meals. I ate well past the point of being full and still had plenty leftover for lunch the next day. The prawns were huge and there were a ton of them, cooked perfectly. The green beans literally were overflowing out of the takeout box (all cooked wonderfully crunchy). Okay, I'll stop talking about how big the portion is. The ginger sauce was seriously so great. It was flavorful and rich and there was enough to soak through all of the rice. They have such a big menu with so many different options that I'll definitely want to order some appetizers next time (a lot of reviews mention the sushi pizza) but it will be tough for me to not get that ginger sauce again. This place is wonderful and I am so happy they are open again. I wholeheartedly recommend! And if you are a ginger everything enthusiast like me, get the ginger prawns.

The portions are generous and the weekday lunch specials are a bargain. Service is consistent and the prices are reasonable for the location. There's ample seating and it's clean. This time around, though, we weren't greeted with the crunchy wontons and duck sauce. We had to ask for them AND they weren't the homemade ones to boot. Little things like that matter since we've become so accustomed to it since we have been coming for years but I understand with the economy and all. They're not that expensive to make so just take the minimal hit.
