For the Hampton Roads area, it's probably the best American-Chinese you'll find. Been going here since 2011 when we moved here from the west coast -you won't find Chinese food here that compares -unless you go further north...maybe. Also depends on the region you're looking for, as "Chinese" food, as most people in the area are familiar with is really an adaptation of Chinese food made to appease the local palates with accessible ingredients; kinda like all other foods from other countries. Dishes authentic to Chinese cuisine is based on region and can differ greatly in ingredients and styles of cooking. Their service is by far the most hospitable in the area -not just in comparison to other Chinese restaurants but to all other restaurants -fast food and sit down. They remember their customers, are always friendly, and do their best to accommodate special requests without grievance and a salty attitude. The ingredients they use are fresh and the food is always made to order. Though they cater to the local pallate, simply requesting "Chinese" vegetables -for an up-charge, or less sauce, is easily accommodated. Despite stereotypical misconceptions of Chinese restaurants -or just people's sheer ignorance/racism- the establishment is always clean and well maintained. read more

Visiting a relative and said let's get Chinese food locally. So we decided to go here. The food was tasteless, and cold takeout food. Ordered and was told to pick up in 25 minutes. Arrived within 15 minutes, food was ready. 5 minutes to get home and everything was already lukewarm at best. The won ton soup was tasteless and cold. The steamed dumplings were cold and my egg roll was cold. The egg foo young chicken was hot but had no taste. I get this dish because I Iove brown gravy but it had no taste. Hours vary to much. Never know if they are open or closing early or closed. It's a hit or Miss as to whether the call in order is right. Have paid twice for food I didn't get. Server was more interested in talking to folks at bar then taking the order. In fact the phone was laid down on the counter and I could here her whole conversation. So, after spending a few minutes trying to understand what on earth Beth was trying to say in her review, my wife and I decided to try out Panda. Glad to report that is pretty much what you'd expect from a local Chinese place: tasty American-chinese food at a reasonable price. The staff were kind and quick, so no problems there. I'd probably give this place a 4/5, and we'll likely be ordering out from here again. LOVE this restaurant, even more because it's in Fluvanna county and doesn't require a trip to Charlottesville or Richmond. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could, but Yelp only lets us give whole star ratings, and Panda doesn't (quite) rate 5 stars (yet). The lowdown: This place is pretty much take-out only. The place is clean, but the floor is tile, the few tables are shoved against the walls and you've got a straight on view into the kitchen, complete with employees (family members?) hanging out. The place is LOUD, even if it isn't packed with people waiting for their orders. Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly happy with this arrangement! I call my order in, they make it in their clean kitchen, and I get to eat yummy food in the comfort of my own home; what's not to like? However, I can see how some others might be put off by the lack of painted screens and jolly-faced Buddha decor, particularly if they were expecting a sit-down meal. The Moo Goo Gai Pan (chicken & veggies in white sauce) was the best I've ever eaten. My family spent three years in Beijing when I was a child, so I know what I'm talking about. The chicken was amazingly tender, and man was there a lot of it! None of this "load it up with bok choy and hope the customer doesn't notice the lack of chicken" bamboozle other places try to pull, no siree! The hubby, kids and I have tried a lot of items, to include Cashew Chicken, Beef with Snow Peas, Bourbon Chicken (a specialty beloved by 3 out of 4 family members, what can I say, darling son is a rebel), and House Special Lo Mein, to name a few. The egg drop soup is smooth and velvety, the fried dumplings were tender with the right amount of crisp on them from the pan, delicious! The appetizers are a mixed bag: the pork egg rolls were a hit, the spring rolls a bit heavy (though tasty). The fried pork wontons were crispy with good flavor, but the Krab Rangoon, which I expected to have a savory cream cheese/imitation crabstick filling, instead had a SWEET cream cheese/imitation crab filling that was...weird. However, the BBQ ribs were fantastic so I'll forgive them for the weird Krab Rangoon. So, why only 4 stars? Where the Panda stumbles is when it comes to the spicy dishes. They have them on the menu: Hot and Spicy Shrimp, Hunan Beef (and chicken and shrimp), Kung Pao Chicken, and so on, and we've ordered quite a few of them. The flavor is good, and the quality of the meats and vegetables are fantastic, but there's no HEAT! I should mention that I love spicy food. If my lips are tingling and my eyes are watering and I need another glass of milk, then it's just right as far as I'm concerned. The hubby likes his food slightly less incendiary, but even he agrees with me: Panda doesn't add enough kick to the dishes listed in red on their menu. If I had to guess, I'd say the chefs are concerned about scaring away customers with sensitive palettes. My philosophy is, if you order from the red-listed items, you are announcing, in no uncertain terms, "BRING IT ON!" Twice now I've told the person taking our order over the telephone that I wanted our spicy items EXTRA spicy, and they've still been lackluster in the hot pepper department. Next time I order I'm going to strenuously try to convince them that I want it spicy enough that I need a box of tissues on table beside me to handle the waterworks! If Panda can bring up the level of spice on their spicy dishes, I'll bring up my rating from a 4 to a 5! read more

Was recommended by more than one person, I have to say this isn't the greatest, I can always judge how good a Chinese restaurant is, by the quality and flavor of their Sweet & Sour chicken, So I ordered a portion of S&S chicken and fried dumplings The dumplings were half fried and slimey very disappointed! The meat inside wasn't the greatest either. The batter on the sweet and sour chicken was tasteless and overcooked, and the sauce was too mild it just ran over the batter and since it was overcooked, the flavors never mixed I'm not saying I wouldn't give this place another chance , but on first impressions there's a lot better out there! then again it was very late in the evening when we visited! read more

Revolting. Just got an order of vegetable chow mein and all I received was a container of slimy vegetables (seriously, think Slimer from Ghost Busters and you'll get the picture). No noodles at all! Restaurant claims that this is what chow mein looks like. Says I should've received a bag of crunchy noodles on the side, which I didn't, but even if I had, this still wouldn't be what any chow mein that I've ever seen looks like (or smells like!
