The food is mediocre, when I went there to eat it was not clean and it just had an overall look of being shabby. What made me leave was the silverware which sounds funny but it smelled so bad I couldn't even eat the food off of it. It grossed me out. read more

My husband and I went here on a Friday evening. Their take out was very busy and the dining room was starting to get busy (around 5:30 p m.). I ordered the bourbon chicken and my husband ordered shrimp egg foo young with an egg roll. Our food was flavorful. The waitress did a good job of keeping up with customer orders . The name on the building is Golden China Buffet. The Buffet line is no longer being used for food but for storing items. Quality of food is exactly what you'd expect from a strip mall Buffett. However, everything was unlabeled and a bit sketchy. Nearly everything was empty or nearly empty despite there being several tables waiting for food (it wasn't so busy that people were emptying it - they were just empty and not being filled). The waitress was attentive and kept apologizing for the kitchen not making any food. The best dishes: - chocolate ice cream (3 stars) - gummy bears (3 stars) - chicken meat ball (2.5 stars) - chicken on a stick (2 stars) - egg roll (1.5 stars) - Lo Mein (1.5 stars) Keep in mind there wasn't a whole lot to choose from and everything that was there had been sitting a long time. Your experience may be better if the food is fresh or you just order off the menu. All in all, you'd be better off hitting up the Wendy's, Pizza Hut or any other nearby restaurant (Italian and Mexican places right next door). read more

Golden China was pretty darn good Chinese American food, especially for Appomattox. Orders are always correct, the food's ready really quick, and it's cheap. We've only got in the buffet once, but it was fine. We've always had good experiences with any of the Hunans, the Mongolians, and the generals chicken. We also really like Szechuan green beans and the homestyle tofu. The hot and sour soup is always really good too. None of that mystery meat in there that you find from some places. read more

We have been here several times, the food is fresh and they keep the buffet full. The food doesn't need to be labeled it's all pretty easy to tell what dish it is. They put out the top Chinese food sellers. General tso egg rolls beef and broccoli chicken and broccoli. I haven't been disappointed eating here. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have more reviews and stars. I'm from San Diego and we stopped here while visiting. San Diego is very diverse and I grew up eating food from various ethnicities and a lot of Chinese, I can confidently say this is one of the best Chinese buffets I have ever had. The food was fresh and flavorful, the selection was just right which I think contributes to the quality, the premises is clean and the staff and owner were welcoming and friendly. As a Chinese person the food is really American style. Which is good a higher standard in quality real Chinese uses less quality meat. I noticed the food didn't have a lot of Chinese seasoning white pepper or soy sauce instead used .Salt. black pepper, pineapple juice and ketchup. Golden China is a great place to eat in Appomattox. When we moved here, I was very pleasantly surprised to find them. The food is always fresh as can be. In fact, if you go there for a late lunch, you'll often see the owner sitting at a table making the stacks of crab Rangoon or egg rolls for the dinner crowd, or snapping beans for their sautéed garlic beans. I have always been impressed with the quality and variety of food available at the small buffet. It's tasty, consistently good and a very reasonable price. The employees are friendly, always willing to go beyond to serve you and as soon as a customer leaves, the table is promptly cleared and cleaned. Golden China has been a staple in Appomattox for about 20 years now. Despite some poor reviews on Facebook I can say that I have never had an issue with any of the food I have had. I typically do take-out from the buffet or get prepared food off the menu for take-out. The owner Bill, is a gracious host, friendly and interested in giving his customers a good experience. The building is on the older side, but that is nothing Bill can correct. I have eaten at many Chinese restaurants in Lynchburg and out of state even, but Golden China is my favorite. If I have a special request, Bill is quick to accommodate me. I have no complaints and honestly, I don't know what people are comparing this place to. I see several comments about the buffet items not being labeled. Well, when I go to any buffet style restaurant, the food is never labeled. If you question what the item is, then ask someone. It's really no big deal. Bill will continue to get my business!!!!!! read more
