I was really excited to try my first poke bowl and this place looked really good. I placed a to-go order online for a bowl with shrimp tempura. I picked up my order and the receipt was correct, but when I got back to the hotel, I realized they had given me raw salmon instead of shrimp tempura as it said on the receipt. A little disappointed, but the salmon and the rest of the bowl was decent. I also ordered it with teriyaki sauce but it was barely noticeable, if there was any sauce on it at all. Small chunks of Filet-Mignon, hard, chewy chicken, unimpressive portion of veggies... tapioca in the bubble tea was all clumped together and dry + starchy in the middle. Brown sugar flavoring tasted like the corn syrup I had on my Eggo waffles as a kid. Bathroom wasn't very clean (at least the sink, mirror, and soap dispenser). This is one of my verrrrry favorite spots to eat in LYH. They've got a solid hibachi menu, great options for sushi, and some of the best boba in town! I love to just get sushi from here as the prices are pretty incredible for the amount of sushi you get! I prefer the simpler rolls, and every time I go they prepare them fairly quickly and with care. They also pile a tonnnn of toppings on, like masago or tempura flakes, and sometimes it feels a biiiiit overkill, but it doesnt take away from the quality and quantity of the sushi at all. The hibachi is pretty decent too. If I order hot food from here, I normally get something classic like hibachi chicken, but I also like to check their board for specials as they often have pretty cool options. I'd also be remiss without mentioning the boba--it's soooo so great. I always go for the coconut flavor with bubbles and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly, the food is great, and it's right off of Wards road. Pretty perfect if you ask me. Can't wait to visit again soon! read more

Let me preface this by saying that I love hibachi more than most things in life. To the point where I can be extremely forgiving on how "good" it is because it's all still good to me. This was the worst hibachi I've ever had. Never in my life have I left a meal unfinished (unless I was saving my leftovers). The entire meal was severely lacking salt, or anything reminiscent of flavor. Thank god they were generous on the yum yum sauce because I literally had to smother it over my entire meal to be able to get some down. Unfortunately, I can't say the service was a whole lot better either. Definitely don't judge by the outside. The view inside isn't the most aesthetic but the sushi that comes from behind the counter is pretty good. I was slightly disappointed that they didn't have house fried rice but the shrimp fried rice was a good substitute. I noticed the menu also offers coffees and bubble tea. read more

tl; dr: Cheap Japanese with friendly service. Food is what you'd expect. I'd recommend hibachi or a specialty sushi roll. The service is on point. I went on New Year's Eve, and they gave everyone a fortune cookie, a Hershey's chocolate, and season's greetings on the house. Definitely a high point. If I had to describe Suzaku in one word, it would be "coherent," which is better than a lot of places do. Mediocre coffee with sky-high prices, anyone? You catch my drift. Suzaku doesn't fall for those traps. The simple sign outside matches the simple layout inside, which in turn matches the simple food, which matches the simple (read: low) prices. Getting a meal is quick and easy. You go up to the counter, place your order, pay, get the food 10-15 minutes later, and eat. No two ways about it. Here's the catch. Suzaku knows what it's doing, and it does a fine job at that. But what Suzaku does is cheap, Americanized Japanese food. Yes, there is a time and place for cheap, Americanized Japanese food, but I've had better and worse Asian spots in the same price range. Suzaku is caught between holes-in-the-wall that sugar-bomb everything on the menu and havens serving a bargain bite of authenticity. The food proves this point. It's pretty hit-or-miss. My teriyaki steak and veggies were far from sugar-bombed. The steak was well-cooked; the mushrooms were thick and juicy; and for the first time in my life, I actually wanted to eat zucchini! Contrast this easy winner with the rice it's served on: sticky and flavorless. It practically begs for a packet of soy sauce, a real shame considering how much I had left after my steak was done. For another angle, take the sushi. On the creative, yummy end there's the red dragon roll. 8 pieces of tempura shrimp, tuna, tobiko, etc. for only $10! It tastes as good as it sounds. Bonus points for being cheaper than the MUCH simpler sushi trays at Fresh Market. On the standard, iffy end there's the tuna roll. You get seaweed, tuna, rice, and that's it. This would be great if the ingredients were fresh and high-quality. I'll just say I choked two pieces down and called it at that. If you know what you're looking for, and what you're looking for is good-value Japanese, Suzaku will deliver. You might even get an extra treat from the owners. Just keep your hopes at a safe level. read more
