Great Asian cuisine in Lynchburg
Maurice V.

Kenko used to be my go to spot when I was in college, but coming back to visit, I I didn't have as good of an experience. While the restaurant was still cute and the service was excellent, my food wasn't the best experience--the hibachi steak was great with the white sauce, but my California roll turned out to be an absolutely gross Philly roll (and the server confirmed my order too). It was fun trying to play the little 10-second game on the wall, but that was probably the highlight of my experience. Might give this place a break for a good while.

Hot Tea

The presentation was beautiful. The meal had to be one of the best meals I've had since being back in Lynchburg. If you like Eel, I highly recommend trying the Unadon. Sweet and savory Eel with rice, fish eggs, avocado and cucumber. I had it with a cup of hot tea since the restaurant itself was cold, which warmed me right up. If you don't know, hot tea pairs amazingly with fatty eel. Half was enough for me to be full for the rest of the morning but I'll be enjoying my leftovers tonight! The service was awesome. I don't eat out alone often but there was no pressure here at all. The server I had was very nice and very attentive. I'm very thankful that I got to spend my Sunday Lunch here! This place gets a 10/10 in my book.

Orange Chicken (Dinner)

The food never missed. It tastes so fresh & presented so well. The service was great and the server was so nice! I got the orange chicken dinner and was not disappointed. The prices were also very reasonable! Definitely will be back.

I have never had any issues with my order until today. I picked up my online order and got home to find out all four containers of the Yum-Yum Sauce had spilled all over inside the bag. The bag was upright the entire time on the drive home. Whoever placed the food inside the bag could have done a better job of checking the tops of the sauce. This is unacceptable.

Food was delicious and reasonably priced the service was good but a bit slow cause they were busy. The place was nice and clean and very comfortable.

See how the tuna isn't as red and has brown from being cooked?

I ordered an entree and sushi to go. They put the shushi on top of a hot meal. The sushi was warm by the time I got home and the fish partly cooked. when I called to bring the food by in to get in replaced, I was argued with that I should have asked for the sushi to be separate. Common sense says to not put sushi on top of something hot that could be cooked. they only offered 20% off next sushi order. I will not be going back. The restaurant should have taken responsibility of this instead of trying to blame the customer. Who wants to eat warm sushi With fish partly cooked? I've been to other Japanese restaurants that will have the sushi separate in little sushi bags or a big bag but never on top of something hot!

Kenko Hinachi is a very exquisite eatery in the cornerstone area. Anyone who enters into this restaurant will be welcomed with open arms . The food is really delicious and the service is phenomenal. If you are in The Lynchburg area Kenko Hibachi is a must.

Adequate tonkatsu curry but far more rice than I would care to admit for the price I paid. The taste was good but the thing that somewhat dissapointed me was the boba selection. The menu needs to be updated because some of the things offered don't ever seem to be in stock. Not bad but not great. Good to visit if you're looking for an entertaining experience. The boba quality isn't bad by any means. Bubbles cooked well as well but some of the flavors are overwhelmingly sweet, like make your teeth hurt, inducing type II sweet. The peach wasn't bad though, strangely, although it tends to be one of those types of flavors that you'd expect to be cloyingly sweet. They also take flames cash if you're looking for that.

Portions were just okay. Service was friendly and kind explaining types of dishes available. I…read moredine-in and would prefer silverware over plastic. Maybe upgrade to buffet style. Larger portions would be nice. Thank you overall for good Chinese cuisine

We chose the salmon teriyaki with rice and broccoli, he kung pao chicken and orange chicken, wit egg rolls to accompany the dinners. The food was tasty and well seasoned, although I thought the salmon was a little oversone and had a mild "fishy" aroma, but not sufficent to deter me from eating it. The dinner was a bit large for one person and could easily have satisfied two adults. The fried rice side was well done. The kung-pao chicken was pretty hot, although we had ordeed it "mild". The most well regarded dish was the orange chicken, very well prepared and quite a large serving. The egg rolls were crispy and filled with a tasty blend of veggies and meat. All in all, this is a decent restarant, but not much different from other Chinese restaurants of its type. It has a "Panda Express" vibe- sort of "corporate" rather than homemade. There's plenty of dine-in room but there were few people doing so. Service was friendly and efficient, I found it a little pricey for the quality, but the servings were large. It is a little hard to find.

Okay, there's a trick to this place. Once you know the trick, you'll never go back to Osakas or…read moreSakuras. The rice here? Normal. The chicken? Also normal. Veggies? Who cares? 90% of people order the same thing at all Japanese restaurants. Teriyaki Chicken [or steak or shrimp] with rice and veggies. Sometimes no veggies. Sometimes no rice. All you do is, ask for {extra teriyaki sauce on the side}. Because at THIS place, they will pour some sauce out on the griddle, let it reduce, and then scrape it into a serving cup for you. Or, if they have a fresh bowl of already cooked teriyaki chicken (like during lunch rush) they will get some out of the bottom of that, so it's thick and still hot. This one small act changes everything. Instead of a cup of soy-based room temperature liquid, like you'd get at any other place, you are given a small chalice of deep amber liquid gold, so thick and delicious and strong that you will have trouble deciding whether to drizzle it on your rice or dip each piece of already delicious chicken in it. I personally do both. Also, the wontons are good. Otherwise functionally the same as every other $7.15 teriyaki chicken Japanese place.
