Wow. This is place is not good. I was in from out town and thought hibachi sounds good. Found this place on Yelp with 4.5 stars and went for it. Big mistake. This is not a Japanese restaurant at all. Went on to pick up the meal and it was clearly a Chinese restaurant that also serves sushi and hibachi. Anyways I got the steak hibachi. Huge chunks of some sort of maybe top round? Pieces too big to eat and super tough. Sauce was bad basically suger auce is about as good as I could put it. The veggies were undercooked. The fried rice was basically rice with soy sauce and was the best part of it. This was not hibachi. Only saving grace is I also ordered the chicken on a stick wondering what Japanese chicken on stick is. It was the typical Chinese takeout chicken on a stick and was at least good enough to eat. I used the website to order. General Tso's Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, and Japanese Spring Rolls for pick up. After ordering it said it'd be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived there after 15 minutes, and the store was fairly clean. More of a mom and pop look. The lady who checked my order out before it was ready was very nice and it was ready in around 5 minutes. The Spring rolls were good, they gave us plenty of condiments, yum yum sauce, soy sauce, and sweet and sour. Beef and broccoli was alright, the beef was a little chewy, and the sauce was fairly good. Not too thick but overall good. However the general Tso's chicken, even though the white styrofoam container said "General", was actually Orange Chicken!!! Haha! It was okay, not the best orange chicken, but okay. That's why I'm giving them only 3 stars. What can you expect. Came here for the first time based on the recommendation of a friend who has been here a few times! The first impression can fool you as it looks quite disorganized and messy but once past the exterior image, we were greeted by the very friendly lady who was the owner, (Kristal or Krystal) the ordered food was absolutely delicious! Met her husband Jackie and mother Lee! The food was ordered and delivered right at the front desk! It was delivered within 5 mins! I immediately noticed the flimsy plastic fork that could barely hold food but for me the food is more than all the exterior! I ordered the stir fried udon noodle with chicken, beef and shrimp and it was hot, fresh and delicious for sure! I was hoping that there would have been a little larger portion! I'm hoping to to come back here again and bring others for them to try out this very unassuming gem of a place! read more

On my quest to finding good Japanese food in town, I have a very limited list of places I usually visit. Wanting to expand to more options, I was heavily disappointed when I ordered takeout here. First of all, they use the same veggie blend as a few other places in town, so I can tell they're not using their own ingredients. I have an MSG insensitivity that I almost have completely forgot about since the vast majority of Asian restaurants don't use it anymore (even when I have lived other places). I have mostly only seen MSG used by very Americanized Chinese restaurants to cover up bad food. It has been years since I've had a reaction, but even then, I can usually push through and it doesn't ruin the meal for me (unless the food itself isn't good of course). Here, however, they must use buckets of MSG because I was suffering just a few bites in. Never have I ever had such a severe reaction that I had to throw it out. The udon itself wasn't good quality (oily slugs- see picture); I can probably make better myself. This place is overall pretty pricey compared to other Japanese choices in town AND with lower quality food. I was super embarrassed because my in-laws were in town and shared this meal with me because I got this place mixed up with another Japanese restaurant with Bento boxes. (They didn't like their food either.) I've had some disappointing Japanese food around here, but Yamato has taken the spot of the absolute worst. No reason to ever go here, ever; you'll have better luck anywhere else. read more

Each time I go to this place it is, without a doubt, my best restaurant experience since the last time I visited. The food tastes great, the service is great, and even though I am not friends with the owners, they make me feel as though I am. I've not been in another family owned and operated business that feels so obviously so. Authenticity seems to be a benchmark in America for foreign cuisine. Here's authenticity: When I leave Yamoto, I feel like I just spent time being served by the most authentic people I've ever met in a restaurant setting. I went here on Wednesday night 5 October 2017 ... I ordered shrimp fried rice and shrimp soba....the rice consisted of shrimp, rice and pepper of all things- nothing else in it, too much pepper and I love pepper - the shrimp soba was awful- the noodles were sooooo overcooked and soggy with some kind of bullion flavor that made them reek and the veggies in it were too soggy. I know they said grand opening, but, it looks like the washed the walls and semi cleaned the rest of it. Nothing more. I only stopped in because I thought it changed hands or better chef/cook. not so! sorry but there is no change and now I remember why I stopped going there 4 years ago. I've been to about every Japanese takeout place in town, and can say with confidence that this is up there with the best! The interior was very nicely decorated, the owner was very friendly, and most importantly, the food was delicious! I had the hibachi filet mignon and my wife had hibachi salmon, and they were both perfect! The salmon was especially delicious, I'm definitely getting that next time. I would highly recommend Yamato over Osaka next door, I really hope anyone who might have normally gone there will give this place a chance, it definitely deserves it, and I hope to be able to come back regularly for years to come. read more

I've eaten here before and have always had such excellent experiences until just recently. I ordered the steak(medium well) and chicken hibachi with two spring rolls. The texture of the chicken felt as if it was cooked the same as the steak, which we all know that should not be the case with chicken. I called and told one of the workers that I will be bringing that order back thinking I would get a refund or at least a new order. Rather than immediately refunding or having an FRESH order cooked to my liking I was met with a cook that was met with disbelief at my statement. He proceeded to open my container in front of me and pick apart at the chicken with his bare hands while basically telling me I was wrong. I was offered a new order which I waited 10minutes(not long enough to cook fresh food) for. I took a few bites of the new order and realized it was the EXACT same as before and threw it away completely. I love the kindness of the woman that works the register so I am only giving the restaurant two stars based on her service. I personally will NEVER return based off this sole experience! read more

I was a big fan of Teriyaki House and this place didn't come close to comparing. I got my usual, hibachi chicken. The sauce for the chicken was not as flavorful or as sweet as teriyaki house. The vegetables were cooked less to be more crisp. The rice was more dry and the entire tray was covered in spices with too much pepper. The worst part was the yumyum sauce. When I opened it it had a puddle of oil on top. I stirred it to blend it well, but the taste is way off. It tastes of too much mayonnaise, isn't creamy enough, and just...not good at all. As for the service, the staff were very friendly and pleasant. And the interior is much nicer than the previous place. read more
