I called AC Howell on the recommendation of my brother-in-law who has used them for years. AC Howell informed me of the process and the $50 drop off/set up charge upfront. What a previous poster didn't realize is the charge covers the initial setup labor and line pressure test (as an engineer, I can tell you this is absolutely an essential safety check and liability reducing step considering this is a high-pressure system handling a highly combustible gas). AC Howell brought out two technicians, pressure tested the line and found a leak on the old, underground black iron pipe. Not surprising as the iron has been underground for 20 years (black iron tends to rust in damp environments). They then engineered a solution creating a new (safe) hookup. There was an additional $50 charge (explained to me upfront before doing additional work) for this because of the additional time required for the new set up and moving the tank twice. It took them 1/2 a day at a labor rate of $100 total for two people (8 total man-hours) This was very reasonable considering the time required. They got it done! The system works like a champ, is set up looking professional, and they even tested all gas burning equipment in the house. I'm very satisfied with AC Howell and do not understand the critical reviews above as my experience was very different. Yes there was an additional charge. AC Howell explained both charges up front and the reason for the charge. I doubt they went through all the trouble of moving the tank twice (returning to their office a second time for the lift truck) to swindle me out of a measly $50. That's a lot of work/time to take me for (barely) a tank of diesel fuel . Finding a leak in black iron that has been underground for 20+ years is more probable. I recommend AC Howell because of their communication and thoroughness (e.g. safety check) and will continue to utilize their services.

Totally avoid this company . My son dropped off his rider mower there because it wouldn't start. The workers met him outside and said we thought you wanted us to junk it for you. When my son said no, they ran back into the shop and a manager came out. The manager then quickly said my mechanic worked on it last night and it's almost working now. It'll cost about 600. And it will be good as new. Kind of contradictory to what the staff said when he first got there. From junking to rebuilding it. My son then OK drove down a block and turned around because it just didn't sit right with him, how they changed their mind from junk to gold and told them that he wanted it back. They then gave him a bill for $300 for work he never authorized ( remember the staff told him to junk it) and he saw that a new battery was listed on the bill. He lifted up the seat and saw that it was the same old battery he had on it. Make a long story short this shop reeks of deception I wouldn't spend a dime there. I recommended that he called the Better Business Bureau and that's what he's going to do. To go from we recommend junking it, for a $100 fee, to "oh no don't take it, we can fix it " when he canceled the junk it order and came to pick it up, then billing him for a new battery that they never installed, we'll you don't need to be a detective to see something isn't on the level. I had called them initially and was given some sound FREE advise on what to check first before going down the road of having them visit. I always appreciated that and kept them in mind should the need occur. Speed up to this month. We had chronically low pressure with no recovery. They were able to fit us in before they went on vacation (family owned businesses are entitled to that). They did a systematic and thorough diagnosis before checking the pump itself. It turned out that our 32 year old pump was filled with sediment. They had a matching (and more powerful with a three year warranty) pump on hand thankfully. They replaced it, changed a faulty pressure gauge, and adjusted the pressure tank. As of right now we have much more water pressure than previously. Based on our experience with them, they were quick, efficient, professional, and we feel that it was money well spent. Eventually, we may have to drill deeper since we ultimately want a Constant Pressure system. If what they installed holds up, then they will hear from me again.
