California done better than California itself - in the heart of Munich. Visiting Munich - seeing…read morethis place as a breakfast choice was fun - and honestly I wasn't initially enamored as I expect something like this to be a caricature of the real thing maybe. But the menu felt unique and interesting enough to visit. I got the Apple Almond Affair - stacks of pancakes, roasted apples and almonds - interlaced with vanilla cream, whipped cream and a side of vanilla ice cream. The Palm Beach - a coconut infused chia pudding with fruit. And - the Hermosa Beach - hash browns topped with mushrooms, onions, egg, bacon and cheese. Additionally - coffee! I was very satisfied with all the flavors - as I mentioned - better than California actually offers. The apple pancake dish was decadent but not over the top intensely rich as one may expect it to be. The hash brown dish was super flavorful and pleasantly presented, with fried eggs perfectly adorning the stack. And the chia pudding was also delicious (covered in bananas - which I removed for myself but were eaten by my companion). Currents and other fruit was atop this dish - a lovely flavorful pudding. Service was outstanding, welcoming. Seating - busy morning but no real wait. Cash only on this day due to network issues but that was ok. Just a very inviting space with lovely people and uniquely outstanding food. Must visit in Munich no matter where you are from!

We ended up at California Bean since it was one of the few places open on the Assumption of Mary…read moreholiday. It's very interesting/confusing to see other Californians review this place AND say that it is authentic to their experience going to a diner back home. Our table ordered omelettes with toast, OJ, and coffee. While the latter were fine, I take issue with the main dish. Every diner I've been to back home has Heinz ketchup and perhaps a hot sauce like Tabasco or Cholula. Every other table in sight also lacked these items, which definitely made my meal less enjoyable. We need seasoning beyond salt and pepper if we are going to call this place California-inspired. Service-wise....it's Germany, not California. Leave your expectations for cheerful and attentive service back home. It ain't happening here. Lastly, cash only? Even cash only joints here tend to post a sign somewhere to alert you in case you don't know. We found ourselves scrambling due to this policy. Ambiance and decor was boring and I have definitely seen something like this in California. SKIP California bean (unless you're in a bind like we were)

A sweets based tent or more like building??? Fun!!! This is my kind of place!!! The exterior and…read moreinterior look like a dessert heaven!! It's all very whimsical. There is a stage in the middle that is raised up high and the bar beneath. Table surround it stadium style. They don't serve beer here so wine and mixed drinks it is!! And food. Lots of food. So came on the closing day of Oktoberfest and it was a blast. The evening reservation and everything. The band was hopping and the crowd was eating it up. The food is what you would expect. The service was on point and keep the drinks flowing. It was a little warm... But that is to be expected. Just go with the flow... Fun place and less rowdy than the other tents...

Squee- it's shaped like a giant cake! Seriously - how can that not be amazing!…read more Note - no beer. No beer at all. But all the other alcohols - gotcha covered! We went for "soda" - rhubarb fizzy water - yum! We also went when the 10 layer cake was rolled out - so that was cool! Definitely very sweet staff. Easy seating in the afternoon. It's off the main drag, but on one of side roads. Definitely stop in - get a pancake crumbly thingy that i can't remember the name of! Indicate you are an english speaker early on if you are - just so you don't spent alot of time just nodding! Less stressful on the paying front that other tents, and they are more willing to split the bill!
