Does service even exist here? I usually don't like to give bad reviews, but Pancake Manor definitely needs improvement. I came to Pancake Manor with a friend after needing to satisfy a long craving for some pancakes. The food is generally quite delicious, and the sides go well; however, the service leaves a lot to desire. We sat down and looked at the menu to make our choices. When we decided what we were going to order and the respective sides we wanted we struggled in getting anyone to come over and serve us. It wasn't a busy day, the restaurant only had about a third capacity, we weren't sitting in an ambiguous spot (right across from the main drinks area), nor was there a lack of staff. Staff just couldn't notice us. Staff would walk by and my friend would gesture for service but nothing happened. Eventually, we questioned whether table service existed and my friend then went to the payment counter to place an order. A staff member then came to take our order. The food came out quickly and, with the exception to the garlic bread (which wasn't as crisp as I hoped to to be), was delicious. Unfortunately, that is the only nice thing I can really say. The staff forgot our drinks order and I had to go up to the counter to remind them of our drinks. Furthermore, when we asked for water we were told we needed to get it ourselves (no problem with that). The person who I was with went to the places were glasses were kept to pour water but there was nothing there. We didn't raise anything to the store because we didn't want to make a fuss. Eventually after a good 15 minutes someone managed to notice that glasses were missing/yet to be cleaned and replaced the supply. The next problem was that after filling one glass there wasn't enough water.... After that, we didn't need anymore "service" and the meal was okay. It's a shame that what could have been a lovely meal could easily be spoiled by the poor service. I might visit again, but I won't hold expectations too high for now. read more

Following the performances at Ashintosh Coffeehouse I, a fundraiser for the Ashintosh Foundation, the band and friends headed out to the city to grab some late night at Pancake Manor! I don't know if it's worth getting excited over, as my last experience here wasn't all that great... but it is the only place around open till late! I had the waffles with ice cream last time, and was not at all impressed. What they call Belgian waffles are a very thin waffle of inferior texture - and the blueberries I had with them were quite disappointing. I also had the basket of chips (5.5) last time, which was decent, but not great, as they weren't crispy on the outside, and a bit soggy on the inside. This time around, I was craving something salty, so I decided on the hash browns (6.5). They were burnt on both sides - which is usually a sign of a nice crunchy texture - but in this case, it meant an impressively hard to handle slab of potato. When I mean impressive, I mean it was hard to break apart, hard to pick up with a fork, and just unpleasant in general. I didn't know one could mess up hashed browns so terribly, but I suppose a place that opens 24 hours in Brisbane is one of a kind, and doesn't need to serve good food... read more

Yet another dessert place!!! What can I say? It's my weakness! This is my 2nd review for this restaurant but for the Garden City location. I came here with some friends after Hillsong, and we came at the very end of the evening when they were about to put in last orders -- I am really glad that we made it just on time. They're known for their sweet desserts and plates, so of course I'm going to order one. I ordered the chocolate, banana, and walnut pancake plate. You have to remember, it is 10:00pm and I'm having this massive dessert -- #onlyonstudyabroad that's what i like to say for all the things I do in Australia. I'm fairly sure the Pancake Manor has been around and kicking since my Mum was my age and able to hold a steady drink. All that aside, the place is actually magnificent, showing tell-tale signs of its former life as a cathedral in the early 20th century. It's absolutely stunning and has become a real Brisbane icon. Where can we go to get a good feed at 3am that isn't McDonalds? Pancake Manor. The excellent part is, you're not just limited to pancakes. You can start with chips or wedges or nachos and move on to salads, burgers, or gourmet crepes. It's prime pickings and in the wee hours of the morning when all you want is a hardy meal to sober you up, Pancake Manor is there with open arms. Venturing into burger territory can burn a hole in your pocket however; so don't let your hunger cloud your judgement too much. The pancakes are what make this place special though and they are tasty, hence the fact that they've dubbed them The Famous Pancakes. Those buttery bad boys won't put you out of pocket like the burgers will and they are worth every penny anyway. One of the very few and incredibly rare places to get your sober on in the City of Brisvegas at any hour of the day or night. Get your pancakes in a church people! What? Pancakes... in a church? That's right, it's the hip new or old happening thing to do. Here's a challenge, sit in a booth with your date on one side and you on the other and ask yourself if it's the booze that makes you go up and down or is it the actual wooden bench you're on moving. As soon as the next person comes along and sits behind you in the next booth, you will be going up again. It's like playing stranger see-saw... but not really. You know when your benches in booths start moving up and down that it's time for some new decor... which this place definetely needs. It has a pool table as well a drink/bar area right in the middle. Don't be fooled with all this tomfoolery mind you... this place specialises in pancakes... the shortstack will fill you up. If you get the 3 stack or more, you may or may not feel a tad sick because these suckers are really big. You can butter or cream or ice cream them up too, just dance more when you go to the next club to work off the calories. Definetely not for the dietary conscious... oh maybe for laughs, bring your diet conscious date here... see what she orders. It is here that you should order the pancakes and only here, but you are also able to order other food, like chips, nachos, burgers and the like, but why would you do that at a pancake place? So stick to what they do best and you can't go wrong. A lot of people have a lot of memories in this place, and hopefully it sticks around for a long time. The pancake manor is a great way to have a nice feed in a relaxed and fairly quiet environment. The pancakes are divine and not too expensive. They're so fluffy and soft and there's lots of different types to choose from! I love everything about this place except for the toilets! I would have given 4 stars but the toilets are just feral and really need attention. There's no point going into it too much but just imagine the worst toilets ever. Seriously they need to get onto this... Apart from that everything was great, the staff were lovely, the food is great and they accept cash or card. I saw pancakes so naturally I wanted to stop in and see how they make them in Oz! This building is an old church, the kitchen is in the back where the choir or organ would normally be. It's a large open restaurant. Apparently it is open 24 hours and it's been around for a long time. The menu is extensive with lots of pancake, waffle or crepe choices. They do offer other menu items for lunch or dinner as well. They serve the pancakes with butter and ice cream which I'd never seen before. I ordered a short stack with an egg and sausage. I only ate the pancakes as the eggs & sausages are just not good in Australia. I miss American eggs and sausage. We came to this restaurant after the Bridge to Brisbane run, so we came this restaurant HUNGRY. The thought of pancakes, eggs and sausage just sounded so delightful. We both ordered the breakfast special: two pancakes, eggs, two sausages and maple syrup. It was about a 40+ minute wait for our food. Not sure why it took so long, it didn't appear to be busy to me. What was stupid was that they brought one set of the breakfast special and it took another 20 minutes or so for the other set to come out. Why couldn't they come out with both of them at once? It was the exact same thing! Honestly, the food that we had was just OKAY. I'm not a huge fan of pancakes but I've had some pretty good ones. The ones at pancake manor weren't that great. It wasn't fluffly; it was very cakey and kept breaking into pieces. The butterscotch syrup was amazing! It made the pancakes much more edible. The sausage and eggs were the typical sausage and eggs; nothing special. If I do come here next time, I want to try the crepes. read more

We came here as a treat for my birthday. We ordered the strawberry, orange and chocolate crepes between the three of us and they were beautiful. However the experience was completely undermined by our waitress. She was impatient, pushy and demanded "would the kid like something" in front of our 11 year old daughter. Our girl found this rude, we found this rude, the hostess that seated us agreed it was rude. She then had the gall to complain about the time taken to order within earshot to the hostess. And just to put the icing on the cake she got the order wrong. I'd be prepared to give it another go because although the room could use a clean I loved the layout and the use of the former Anglican Mission. The fact they are open 24 hours and quite reasonably priced might explain why it looked a little tired. Whether it was from excitement or a sinister cholesterol clot, my heart definitely skipped a beat when I found out Pancake Manor was opening at Garden City. At last, Mt Gravatt is getting a decent weeknight dessert option. On my first visit, the food was excellent. I can't speak for the breakfast menu or the burger options but provided you stick with a dessert, you can't go wrong with butter, maple syrup, ice cream and sugar. Since my initial visit, I have been twice more and each time it has gotten progressively worse. The service at Pancake Manor is possibly the worst in Brisbane. Even though there are plenty of tables available, the shortage of staff mean there can be up to a fifteen minute queue to be seated. The staff can be rather rude. On one visit we waited 40 minutes for our breakfast pancakes and when I complained, the staff snapped that they should have warned us when we ordered that the wait on food was 40 minutes. When I asked if we could have our coffee order made up first, she agreed though she acted like she was doing us a huge favour. On the second occasion, we stood at the door for ten minutes before the staff approached us and that was only to tell us there would be a long wait to be seated. It's disappointing that their terrible service far outweighs their delicious pancakes. However, being a glutton, I will explore my options of dropping in at unusual times to see if it is any better during quiet periods and report back. read more

Coming back to the Pancake Manor (the only pancake place I know of and have been to which is set in an actual (ex)church) brought back much memories from my student days (oh how I miss those days!). Two steps into the restaurant, and all the memories came flooding back, all the late night/early morning pancake manor runs, after clubbing snacks, breakfast pancake manor runs... Anyways, it was fun to come back after years of abstaining from Pancake Manor (nothing was wrong - I was just overseas for a while..and pancakes don't do any good to my ever expanding waistline o.O). So this time around, my return to The Pancake Manor, I decided to give the crepes a go (Yes, the savoury ones). It took a lot of courage to not select a deliciously sweet pancake stack with ice cream, or waffles, or the Bananarama (grilled banana and pancakes drenched in butterscotch sauce) since it was lunch and I convinced myself that sweet things for lunch probably would be a good idea (didn't wanna bounce off the walls and cause a commotion when I returned to work). Which is how I ended up trying the Mexicana crepe (a crepe loaded in minced beef, sour cream and tomatoes). And it had a hint of chilli-ish spiciness that just made it complete. And a fresh green salad (for those of us who are health conscious). I have to say, I was impressed and I enjoyed the crepe very much. Nothing beats getting fed while in a slightly creepy feeling (ex)church. I was so full, I had to literally crawl back to work. The only thing about this place that is good is the interesting building it is in. We queued up in line for 25 minutes which was weird because there were open tables everywhere. We ordered when we sat down and it took 20 minutes to get two coffees and they were both luke warm when they showed up. Add another 20 minutes for food to be delivered for a total wait time once seated of 45 minutes. We were never given any silverware so we stole it from n of the open tables. Now for the food. It was also only warm at best. My egg was bordering cold and the pancakes were dry and also cold. Hash browns were good but at 7 dollars they should be. The food here isn't something to write home about, but it's good enough and you can get it any freaking time you want it. I was hoping for awesome pancakes, and an awesome experience - especially since there was a line-up for the restaurant reaching outside of the building. Plus, one of the restaurant patrons who finished dining assured us it would be, "worth the wait." I was encouraged to wait-it-out at this point and the excitement was building. Once we got inside the joint, things started to change. Unfortunately, the host's bad attitude and poor service put a damper on things. He was seemingly offended and disgusted that we asked if we could move to an available booth, 10 seconds after he sat us down. It was as though we had offended his mother, and the way he handled our request was the exact opposite to what one would call "customer service." The menus were okay - as in the content. They were nasty as in cleanliness. The whole place seemed seedy, and I felt like I needed to disinfect everything. The food - yeah my pancakes were nice: fluffy and sweet. My hash browns were pretty bland, but nothing that some salt couldn't fix. My fried egg, well it was a fried egg. Would I go there again? Maybe a different location - the cleanliness turned me off and the service there was mediocre. The food is more like food you would eat when you're starving in the middle of the night and nothing else is available, so I won't be rushing back anytime soon. I had the Blackforest Pancakes because it was a full moon and my cravings for anything chocolate with brandied cherries (like I have them often) were at all high. A pair of double chocolate pancakes, topped with a dollop of cream (which I scooped off to give to my husband - because I don't do cream) and a scoop of chocolate ice cream, and heapings of brandied cherries surrounding the pancakes, oh my. First bite, I was left wondering if perhaps they made mine gluten-free (as they did for my husband), as it was somewhat dry and dense. But the ice cream and the chocolate bits in the batter helped, so it all went down the hatch! The husband had the BananaRama made gluten-free. Surprisingly for someone who eats like a horse and never gain any weight (grrrrr, unlike me), he DID NOT finish it, so evidently the portion was satisfying. Service was good enough for us on our visit (we were prepared to have some bad service based on some reviews), the waitress was pleasant and attentive enough, and the orders came quickly. Perhaps service depends on the time of the day - we were there for early dinner on a Saturday, so it wasn't too busy. Bathrooms are downstairs, and the Knight Bar is downstairs. I asked husband to come down to check it out. He immediately had an "ugh" face at first glance -- I'm not sure why -- The bar's roomy, dim, and pretty empty and has a knight statue. I say "pretty cool." Alas, we did not stay longer than 5 seconds in there. Prices were average for our orders but when I looked at the menu, I was a bit perplexed at how some of the items are priced. Open 24 hours, so always popular for the late night munchies after being out on the grog, and I suspect with students who'll wander past from QUT after a late one at the library. It's in an old church, and quite nice inside. A lot of the seating reminiscent of church pews. The most I've ever been able to say of the service here is that they serve you. Eventually. Pancakes can be good, although they did once make me sick, I've been more than a few times over the years, and I'm not 100% it was the pancakes. I've been a bit wary since though. The Pancake Manor on Charlotte street in Brisbane CBD is a 24/7 pancake lovers heaven. Located in an old renovated and refitted church the Pancake Manor has truly become a Brisbane icon. Due to it being open 24 hours a day 7 days a week the Pancake Manor is truly a place for everyone and almost adapts with the crowd at times. It can go from being a great family place to catch breakfast of bacon eggs and pancakes or lunch to a party night spot when people fall in at all hours of the morning to get a great feed before heading home after being out all night. When you go the Pancake Manor it you almost get the excited feeling of being a little kid again specially when ordering a breakfast consisting of pancakes and ice cream. You know that this is bad for you but there is no one to tell any differently. It might sound like a silly idea but it is worth a try. They do also serve other food apart from pancakes so if you are not a fan or feel like pancakes are in fact not an actual meal you can still go. It has to be said the service is quite slow due to the large amount of people that go and to try combat the line outside you don't get a personal feeling from the service staff. The food is also not 5 star but I think that the atmosphere of the place and the music makes up for it. I've always found it hilarious that Brisbane doesn't have a 24 hour pharmacy, coffee shop, cinema, pizza place, or chinese delivery place, but we do have 24 hour pancakes. In a heritage gothic church no less. It's crazy things like this that make me love Brisbane. More times than I can count I've ended up drunk or hungry or both in the early hours of the morning and ended up in one of Pancake Manor's cushy booths. And the best thing? They don't just do amazing pancakes! You can get eggs, or chips, or nachos, or even a shot of gin at all hours in this Brisbane landmark. Their hash brown is a mess the size of a dinner plate, and their coke is the most watery post-mix I've ever tasted and has a slight taste of chlorine, but you can't help but love these things that make Pancake Manor so strange and unique. And it can't be just me, because it seems like Pancake Manor is never empty. Ever since first stepping into its dim, cavernous, medieval-looking interior on a grade four french excursion (yeah, I still don't get what pancakes had to do with french), I have been a convert. I hope that even as 24 hour gyms are starting to pop up around Brisbane, and no doubt other things soon to follow, we never stop worshipping at the altar of all-night pancakes! read more

I remember being in love with this place back in my underage days when I would hang out in the city till "late" (11 o'clock) with my friends. We would eat pancakes, order coffee and feel like we were partying the night away (when all we were really doing is eating pancakes and socialising). Sadly, I can not say I feel the same about Pancake Manor, it kind of looses its appeal after a few visits as you realise the food is pretty mediocre. One good perk is that this place it open 24hrs so when everything is closed- you can count on Pancake Manor for a feed. I probably made a big mistake by not ordering pancakes the last time I visited this restaurant. I learnt my lesson- if you are going to Pancake Manor, you should just stick to eating pancakes as the rest of the menu is pretty tasteless. I only really like the dessert pancakes, especially the chocolate one. They make a great dessert or snack. They honestly are not the best pancakes ever, but I will always have a soft spot for this place which is what will keep me coming back every once in a while. I'm not much of a night owl, but I do have a massive gripe with the fact that nothing is open late in Brisbane expect bars and clubs. Sometimes you want to meet someone for a coffee or hot chocolate at 10pm, but no, cafes close at 5pm, if not earlier. This is where Pancake Manor comes in, Brisbane's late-night saving grace. There's been many an occasion for me that has called for something sweet and soul-warming outside the hours of 8-5 and Pancake Manor has come to the rescue every time. My favourite is the Hot n Troppo, two buttermilk pancakes topped with vanilla ice-cream, grilled banana, walnuts and chocolate fudge. It doesn't get much better than this. I also like the Chocolate Jewel, but last time I hate it the chocolate pancakes were a bit dry. One dish of pancakes can definitely feed two, so try to come to an agreement with your dining partner and find one that you can share. Otherwise, you'll be having to roll yourself out of Pancake Manor. Well worth it though. read more

Stopped here twice for breakfast and both times were great. Wasn't too impressed with the white flat coffee as the barista wasn't really professional with the art work, but still tasty. Pancakes were SUPERB! Thick and fluffy and a mound of whipped butter and warm syrup. First time we went, we ordered the plate set for under $11 (consist of 2 pancakes and a side (2 long sausages/scrambled eggs/etc). Lots of choices to choose from. My husband and I ordered our own plate....we learned quickly that we couldn't finish it even though we were sharing it with our 4 year old son (that's 4 thick pancakes among us 3 plus sides). The second day, we played smart and ordered one plate set and a single pancake for my son. We still couldn't finish it, but we managed. Super delicious and VERY FULFILLING. Highly recommend. Ambiance was quiet (we were there early) and it opens early til late. The decor was unique for a breakfast place...more like a old castle pub. This may be the best option in the middle of the night in Brisbane, but a couple things prevent giving even three stars. Their ingredient quality needs to improve. The fresh vegetables were disappointing, and the aioli was translucent. The pancakes were nothing special. In general, the menu is too long and varied for their capabilities. They should cut it down to, say, 10 distinct items they can prepare consistently and well. Narrowing the menu item selection would help with freshness and quality as well. I probably won't be back. The old Anglican Church mission was built in 1935 but looks much older- very cool atmosphere makes it a top breakfast option in Brisbane CBD. Really good coffee, pancakes, blueberries but the sausages were kinda flavorless. Highly recommend if your visiting and breakfast is not included at your hotel :) read more

I find that the service is almost non-existant and the last time I was in for my pancake fix, I was with a group of friends that all had groupon discounts. I don't know if it was because of the groupons but we felt like we were not being looked after at all. The staff are really friendly but you do have to be completely specific about what you want if it's not on the menu. More than unlikely the chef will work with you. They are kid friendly and are really nice about it when kids make messes. I was a little afraid to approach the server about my son spilling my soda all over the table. He cleaned it up in no time and even refilled my soda. I was really touched as a customer that he went the extra mile to make my experience a good one. I would definitely recommend for large groups and families. The chocolate jewels pancakes was everything and so much more. I hadn't tasted happiness like that before. The only issue was the communication between the female server I had and I. I asked for a few rashers of bacon and she brought out 5 servings of bacon (about 25 rashers in total and about a charge of $25.00.) however the issue was fixed and the staff were really great about it. Did someone say 24 hour pancake place? That's right, Pancake Manor is there for you no matter what time those pancake cravings kick in! This was one of the first places I dined after moving to Brisbane, and I fell in love with it! The old cathedral setting gives you the feeling you're in a haunted castle, with suits of armour and the like around. And, despite their name, Pancake Manor's menu is extensive with savoury lunch time non-pancake options available. The strawberry patch pancake stack is my favourite. Simple buttermilk pancakes served with fresh strawberries and cream. Delicious. Pricing is reasonable, although service could be faster. Definitely worth a try. read more

Lovely! What can I say? The buttermilk stack is as good as any of the exotic concoctions with whipped cream walnuts, maple syrup, ice-cream... oh stop it. I always enjoy visiting the Pancake Manor and each of them is unique. The one in the Rocks, Sydney, was the first time I'd been, and experienced the delights of savoury pancakes, Mexican and spicy. We have since visited one in Melbourne, Canberra, Charlotte Street here in Brisbane and recently Mt Gravatt. What's really nice about the Garden City venue is that it's the first time we'd gotten to sit outside and it has a much more modern vibe, which is fine. Although I love the ambience of the historical buildings some of these are to be found in - following on from the Rocks tradition I guess - I don't think this place suffered from the more modern take and the pancakes still tasted great. read more

It's 24/7! What more can I say :) probably one of the only two places I know in Brisbane would remain open for late nite-another restaurant is casino. This lovely place have more than pancakes ( yes they have steak also!) Another thing is the house, which initially built as a church, looks fascinating. Lovely old wooden tables and benches. The Pancake Manor loomed large in my youth. It was a place to go with your mates and behave like a grown up. Ordering crepes and pancakes in the surrounds of an old church restyled as medieval banqueting hall. Classy. It was hugely popular after attending concerts at Festival Hall, where I spent much of my teen years. I always wanted Chicken Nicoise 'We call it chicken knickers' or Beef Tabriz 'diced beef marinated in red wine and herbs' but usually could only afford a short stack 'two fluffy pancakes topped with whipped buttermilk and maple syrup'. I went there that often that I can still remember the menu off by heart. Last week we found ourselves at the far end of town after a few drinks so I decided to introduce Mr Tiffin to my misspent youth and take him to The Pancake Manor. Despite the crowds, our meals arrived quickly and that's when my happy memories disappeared. The mushroom crepes were filled with a creamy mushroom filling which was fairly basic but wasn't too bad. It sat on a pool of thin creamy sauce, possibly mushroom, flavoured with chopped chives and dried oregano. Bland but edible. Anthony's chicken crepes were an odd combination of a chicken filling in a white sauce, sitting in a thin sweet tomato sauce, also flavoured with dried oregano. The chicken crepes were luke warm and the tomato sauce cold. We called the waitress who was totally at a loss at what to do. She immediately asked if we wanted to speak with a manager but be simply asked if they could be heated. The crepes were taken to the kitchen and back on the table in less than a minute. Warmer but not really warm enough. The crepes of my dreams had become the crepes you see in a thousand food courts across the country, heated in a microwave and dressed with some pea shoots. Edible but a lacklustre affair. We decided to call it quits and leave the youth of today to enjoy the delights of The Pancake Manor. It wasn't the worse meal I've ever had. It was just average. Perfect for teens and tourists and those wanting to get together somewhere quick and relatively cheap. Not so perfect for this Gen X-er. There was much discussion on social media about my visit. My partner in crime from all those years ago said 'Maybe it was bad back then and we just didn't know it.' Maybe it was. I'd like to think that's not the case but perhaps it's true. Either way, my recent visit to The Pancake Manor stomped all over my lovely 1982 teen memories. read more

Please clean your toilets, wth!! The restaurant itself is dirty. We had a 45 minute wait for a table. Most were empty, but they did not have enough staff on. We walked past the kitchen, I should of taken a picture, it was filthy, maybe close the door so your customers do not see it. The pancakes were ok, cream and ice cream were ok. I ordered fresh blue berries for my pancake, my blueberries were fresh out of a can. I hoped that can was picked fresh today. If you're hungry and want pancakes maybe go here. I am sure there has to be a better cleaner place elsewhere. I would have to be craving pancakes like an addict craves crack to want to go back here. read more

Its ok, the pancakes were not amazing but they were ok. I liked the coffee and the drinks prices though I did not drink, seemed pretty reasonable. I will probably still have a return visit . . . definitely maybe read more

Not bad, but far from great. Pancakes tasted like a boxed mix and coffee was just passable. I guess the appeal is that it's open 24 hours.
