True story. Walked into the upstairs sale area a week ago on a Friday around 1pm with my wife and another couple. Spent maybe 10-15 minutes in the store. Everything was 25%-50% off and it was also a "tax free" weekend, I guess because of return to school. I brought 2 hats to the register where the store employee (lady) was at, intending to buy one or the other. After discussing prices on both hats, I selected the $60 hat, which was $30 after the 50% off. The lady then told me she didn't know how to ring it up. I was puzzled, but whatever. I said, "it's $30 after the discount". She says she needs to calculate the discount on the register and she doesn't know how to. She tries calling the store owner for instructions, but he doesn't answer the call. I very nicely and patiently say "OK. Here's my name and number. When you figure how to ring this up, call me, I won't be far away", and then I leave. 30 minutes later my phone rings and it's the owner. I'm on vacation, I'm all happy, I say "Hey, what's up?" This guy says "WHAT'S UP??? LET ME TELL YOU WHAT'S UP. I OWN THE HAT STORE. MY 80yr OLD EMPLOYEE JUST WENT HOME CRYING. WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SAY TO HER???" Needless to say this moron had his facts all wrong. He rants on me for a few minutes, not letting me get a word in. Finally he shuts up for a second, I ask if he has video cameras. He says yes. I ask if he watched them yet, he says no. I tell him to go watch the video, then call me back and apologize. I was as nice as could be to his employee, who apparently didn't know how to ring up a hat. Perhaps he never trained her? I tell this guy why would I leave my name and number if I just abused your elderly employee? This moron store owner has yet to call me back to apologize. read more

I will admit fully... I LOVE hats. I was absolutely thrilled to find this shop on a recent trip. They had such an amazing selection. The two older women who were working that day (I wish I'd gotten their names) we're so sweet and helpful. They showed me so many styles and options. I settled on a flat crowned hat with a wide brim and it looked amazing. They also have a small but incredible selection of the most colorful and flowy dresses ever. Deceptive return policy. I asked specifically if a hat was 100% cotton and they said yes, so o bought it. Got home to find the liner is polyester, the tag for the liner was separate and buried under the other tags. Tried to return it 3 days later with the receipt and they refused refund, said store credit only. They didn't have any non-polyester liked caps so that wouldn't work. Still refused refund--said I should have read the tags better. Maybe they should know their own hats better, and when they make a mistake return the customer's money. TERRIBLE SERVICE. read more

O Dec 19 2023 went in to buy a hat, tried several on and was pleased with the results. Asked the lady at the counter when they closed and she stated 6 pm. Left the store to talk to the wife and returned at 5 minutes to five. Was told by the so called Manager downstairs that the section upstairs closed at 5 pm. I looked at my watch and POLITELY stated it was 5 till 5 . She just rolled her eyes and Stated to come back in the morning. Then as I was leaving had the nerve to get snarky and say " have a nice day" After being treated so unprofessionally, there was no way I was going to buy a $ 200.00 hat from that clown. I understand how people feel during this pandemic and I understand why these precautions are in place. However, when you BAR someone inside your business and then call the police and tell them they are refusing to leave, you are in the wrong. Went here, was not wearing a mask as I have a condition that makes it difficult for me to do so. The man started SCREAMING at me and spraying lysol in my face that I needed to leave and then put a BROOM across the door so that I could not leave. How are you going to scream at me to leave and then prevent my escape? I was embarrassed and mortified. So he calls the police, that is his right, and then sticks his stupid phone in my face to record my humiliation. Police officer was understanding and I went on my way but I will never EVER visit there again. I was traveling with my service dog with my medical documentation in my pocket specifically to help prevent these situations. I have since filed a complaint with the ADA. read more

I was waiting for the "Ring Man" to finish up with some customers. So, this store was Next door to the Ring Man, Abdul. I found two beautiful skirts in here and purchased them. I wanted to try them on, but it was too hot and I am not real sure if the three roomed store had fitting rooms. So, when I went to pay for the skirts(perfect travel skirts)I asked about the return policy. He told me, if they did not fit I could return them for a full refund the same day. If I returned them the next day or later, that I could get a credit voucher. The skirts were almost $30.00 each, so I tried them on as soon as I got back to the Inn that I was staying at-sad to say they did not fit. So, I went back to the store shortly after I rested and cool down from the heat. They happily gave me my cash back. So, then Ernie found two hats(he is a very picky hat snob)that he liked very much. So, he bought a grey hat and a black hat. They were very nice quality and breathable hats that he needed. So, then we went to pay for the hats. We only had to pay a little more than what the skirts costed. They gained a sale back and we left happy with what we had. This is a great store, but a little hard to get around-because their were so many people in there and small aisles. read more

I stopped at the store a couple times while visiting the area and each time all of the staff seemed very unhappy and not very pleasant at all. The selection was great, but the atmosphere was horrible. I could get most of the hats they offered on line and some at a better price. The second time I stopped in I asked if they had any coupons or specials or discounts, and the associate looked at me like I was crazy. I know it was a busy time as it was the weekend before Thanksgiving, but I haven't had such a bad experience at any other shops as I did here. On my next visit to St. Augustine I will definitely avoid this shop! I'll prefer to enjoy the more friendly shops with happier sales staff. read more

When my wife and I got to the store I knew immediately it was the place I needed to be. Fabulous and large hat selection. The staff was helpful in assistance and answering questions. About six months ago I bought my favorite hat of all times here. I lost it so when I went back the other day and search for the exact same one I was not disappointed. They had sold out of the hat that I had bought but the owner informed me that they had a clearance shop up on the second floor. I went upstairs and found the exact same hat in a different color for half off making it only $30. which was a steal of a deal. I went back downstairs and I found a hat that was the same color as the one that I had lost I wasn't crazy about the decoration around the brim. But the price was so good that I had told them behind the counter that I was just going to cut it out. The owner pulled out a matching ribbon and asked if I could give him two minutes to customize my hat no extra charge!!! He did a fabulous job and I am a very happy customer. I was hunting a hat for a while now. I happened t be down in St. A yesterday and found this place. It is right on St. George street in a cute old building. I walked in and image that there are hats everywhere. High and low up and down wall to wall hats. The some funny hats, some ball caps, and some fancy hats. I wanted a real panama hat. I normally go to St. Augustine each May for vacation, but not this year... The grandkids want to go to Disney. The problem for me is that it was time for a new Panama Hat. My "old" one is three years old, and my grandson likes to grab it off my head and throw it on the ground! That was my second; the first lasted a long time, too, and I have to wear my hat faithfully--baldness and skin cancer make it a demand. So I get my summer hat from Panama Hat Company each time. (Funny story: a few years ago I am in an airport in Ohio on a church Mission Trip from Atlanta, when I hear someone yell, "Hey, that's one of my hats!" It was Tony from the shop who was there to play a band gig. Small world, and how did he recognize from across the way that it was one of his hats?) Anyhow, I ordered from the website last week and have it in hand--or on head--all easy and painless.
