Very nice transition from a food truck to a brick and mortar restaurant. Bright clean and fresh with plenty of seating. The food was as good as their food truck if not better which is very good quality. The service was a bit slow at first and the timing of appetizers, salads and entrees should have been timed better. I feel you should not still be eating your appetizer when the entrees arrive. The saganaki (flaming kasara cheese) was a show . Maybe too much of a fire hazard lol but tasty. The pita bread tasted fresh and homemade. Shepherdstown can be tough to park on weekends and in the summer so without a parking lot I might pass on visiting during those times since it's only street parking. A very good experience and I would definitely return when possible so I give them 4 1/2 stars

Nestled in the heart of Shepherdstown's historic downtown, this new Greek restaurant, opened by the owners of a local food truck favorite brings authentic family recipes to a cozy, tastefully decorated brick-and-mortar space. Service was friendly and attentive, though timing could use some refinement. Our entrée arrived too close to our appetizer, and the lack of small plates for the shared saganaki detracted slightly from the otherwise seamless experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, that perfectly suits the charm of Shepherdstown. For the quality of the meal, and portion sizes. Value is there. This is a fantastic addition to Shepherdstown's culinary scene! With a bit more polish on timing, it has the potential to be an all-around standout. What we ate: Saganaki: laming greek cheese - check out the fire! Moussaka: traditional greek casserole dish layered with eggplant, ground meat, tomato sauce, finished with a Béchamel Sauce Stuffed cabbage Greek salads My rating rationale +.5 Service +1 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +1 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value

Finally made it out to Panagiota's Taste of Greece and all I can say is WOW ! Located in downtown shepherdstown, this place is a must visit for Greek food lovers!! They have a pretty awesome cocktail menu, Ashley Mendoza started with a Rockefeller spritz and she loved it (it was a large glass as well) We started off with the Flaming Saganaki which they do table side, think a wheel of cheese on fire with added oregano done table side. It's a cool experience and a must try, and the cheese is pretty solid. They have wood fired pizza, so we started with a white pizza. The pizza was pretty solid, the dough is a bit thicker so if you like fuller pizza this is a good spot for you. The flavors were great and the garlic came through upfront. The star of the show was the gyro and Greek potatoes. When I say this is easily the best gyro I've ever had, I mean it. The meat tasted super high quality, the tzatziki was fresh, and the pita really complimented it as well. I would def go back for this gyro alone. The Greek potatoes were also awesome, super thick and had a slight level of acidity which was nice. we finished it off with the lava cake, although it felt like a crime not ordering baklava this was still really awesome! One thing that stood out to me was the service. When we walked in, the general manager Major greeted us and was extremely friendly. The staff were also super attentive and pleasant. I'll def come back to try a few cocktails and a lamb shank. Add this to your must visit list ‼

Watermelon crawl mocktail. Eggplant dip Appetizer.

Full start service, very fast serving speed, and a quiet and chill ambiance. Our server Nate elevated the entire experience for us this evening. We were greeted nicely and led to a well set table. We ordered and appetizer and an entre for sharing, and Nate coordinated with the kitchen to serve split portions in two plates. Same thing with the salad. It was really considerate. The mocktails are so great they are my favorite. Came with pretty colors and wonderful fruity taste. The watermelon claw has pumps. Food tastes great the pita is heaven. Will come back!

Very very slow service. The food was good not great. Potatoes were raw in the moussaka. Salad is improved. Great mural on the wall.

This is "Greek-style" and not a Greek eatery. What a disappointment. I do so love Greek food which…read morelured me here, so I write this as a cautionary review. Whats more sad is that I paid $15 for something that isn't at all as advertised. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Greek Salad as I love grilled meat. Never have I had souvlaki in over a dozen voyages to Greece that was wet boiled or microwaved, as this chicken seemed to be. Souvlaki are grilled skewers. This place should NOT sell the pile of bland, blond, wet chicken breast as "souvlaki." The "Greek" salad was sad. No other way to describe it. It had the ingredients of a Greek salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber) but the feta was meager and there were no onions. The tzatziki was more akin to ranch dressing (not made with yogurt- real Greek yogurt would hold a spoon standing in it. This was almost liquid.) ) and the pita was a doughy, cheap substitute. Their listing says fresh bread, and this pita was not so much. The owner seems nice and personable, and I wish him well but I also wish he would pay more attention to the product he delivers, especially if they call it, Greek. UPDATE from owners rebuttal: I write fair reviews as I experience the food. The issue is not whether you have fresh ingredients or quality chicken: it is clearly stated what you served was just not souvlaki in anyway, it was wet sautéed chicken and that was not traditional tzatziki. It was tzatziki-like sauce. Period. If you go to a pizza place to buy a pizza and you get high quality toasted bread with excellent tomato sauce and good mozzarella- it's still not a pizza, no matter the quality, and you shouldn't call it a pizza. I don't deny you are Greek, proud or otherwise, just serve what you advertise. Good luck to you too!

Ela Mesa Taste of Greece…read moredidn't just serve us a meal -- it transported our taste buds straight to the Mediterranean. We started strong with the feta cheese appetizer, and wow -- the creamy, briny richness paired perfectly with fresh accompaniments. The Greek salad that followed was unbelievably fresh, with crisp vegetables and vibrant flavors that felt like summer in every bite. But the real star of the night? The pork chops. They were cooked to juicy perfection, seasoned beautifully, and paired with sides that complemented the dish rather than competed with it. Each forkful was savory, tender, and honestly one of the best versions of Greek-inspired pork I've had in a while. What sets Ela Mesa apart isn't just the food -- though it truly delivers authentic, elevated Greek flavors -- it's the whole experience. Guests consistently rave about the warm, inviting atmosphere and attentive service that makes you feel right at home. Whether you're craving classic Greek dishes done exceptionally well or discovering Mediterranean flavors for the first time, this place is a must-try gem. We'll absolutely be back -- and next time, we're leaving room for dessert!

It's so funny because David and I frequent the Akira ramen next door and not once had we ever noticed that this Greek restaurant was right next to it! I was immediately impressed by the perfect amount of variety on the menu, and the dishes sounded really authentic. Our server also told us there were a number of specials happening that day, so there's sure to be something for everyone. We ended up ordering 3 entrees for 4 people to share and we were able to swap a few of the side dishes that the entrees came with. Gioulbasi (half roasted chicken): The chicken was tasty, although I didn't eat a few parts closest to the bone because they were a bit bloody and I couldn't tell if it was cooked through. The lemon potatoes that came with this were BOMB! Super lemony, and had a slight crisp outer texture. I could eat a plate full of those potatoes. Branzino: Unfortunately the Chilean Sea Bass we wanted was out, so our waiter recommended the Branzino instead. It was good, but not mindblowing. Its a pretty lean fish, but the meat slid right off the bone and it was pretty easy to eat. Yiouvetsi (lamb shank): Super tender, came right off the bone and paired nicely with the tomatoey orzo pasta underneath. A HUGE portion, we had some leftover to go. Overall, we loved the chill ambiance and authenticity of the dishes and selection on the menu. My parents love Greek/Meditteranean food, so would definitely visit again! Shoutout to our server Riley who was great too, I had to call him over to explain the specials to me twice, give that man a raise!

Best Greek Food in the Area - Hidden Gem!…read more This place is truly a hidden treasure tucked inside an industrial complex -- a total hole-in-the-wall that you'd never expect to serve such amazing Greek food. It's a family-owned restaurant, and you immediately feel the warmth and hospitality. Everyone is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the food is consistently outstanding -- fresh, authentic, and clearly made with love. What really stands out is that they offer a surprisingly large variety of options for vegetarians -- from delicious veggie platters and flavorful dips to perfectly cooked sides and hearty meat-free mains. It's refreshing to find a Greek spot that treats vegetarian dishes with the same care as everything else. If you're craving real Greek flavors and don't care about fancy décor, this spot is an absolute must-try -- easily the best Greek food in the area.

The flavors here are bold, fresh, and thoughtfully done, with a fun twist on classic Greek dishes. My go-to orders are the Medusa's Nest (seriously addictive), the Apollo sandwich (perfectly balanced and filling), and the Pegasus Gyro Wrap, which are hands down one of the most creative and delicious takes I've had on gyro meat. Everything is well-seasoned, portions are solid, and the ingredients always taste fresh. The Dip Sampler and the Meat Sampler are standouts. The Dip Sampler has a variety of yummy dips and warm pita. Hummus can vary a lot in different restaurants, and this one is good, creamy with not too much garlic. We both enjoyed the Meat Sampler at our first dinner and took home leftovers - nice variety of meats. It comes with a good basmati rice but you can also choose a salad or French Fries. Gotta love a place that offers you both! This visit, I had the Moussaka Entree (gluten free) which was a special that night. It was tasty with no spice that overwhelmed the dish. Nice size slice with a salad with tomatoes. My husband had the Chicken Kebob which came with three skewers of chicken and salad (instead of the French Fries). We both took some food home especially after the Dip Sampler. We arrived around 5 pm and got the benefit of the Happy Hour price of $2 off a draft beer ($6 instead of $8) and $1 off the martini. The baklava has a generous supply of nuts, and I have enjoyed the Baklava Cheesecake at home for dessert. The restaurant decor is relaxing and attractive with thoughtful touches like a little table for your purse or to put your leftover containers on. The metal artwork tree, wicker lamps and paintings on the wall contribute to the cozy ambiance. Service has been prompt with someone coming over to greet us quickly. For my espresso martini, they had run out of espresso, but someone went to buy espresso from a coffee shop instead of telling me to order something else. Aleko's is a lovely, neighborhood gem. It is also on Resy for reservations.

TLDR: Hot food on a cold night. Oompah!…read more I used to stop for takeout at Aleko's old location in a gas station when I refereed games at the local high school. Great food, great value. But 6 weeks ago they moved to a full sit-down restaurant a mile and a half away. With my wife off at a community group dinner, I thought I would see how the new place stacked up. The inside was bright and warm, tables and chairs were comfortable, and very quiet even though almost every table was in use. These days this is a rare but well-appreciated thing; my old ears approved. I was quickly seated and handed a menu and wine list. Wine list contained quite a few Greek wines and beers. I like reds that are, well, a bit rough so I went with one recommended by the waiter. Good choice. Good choice! The food menu contained all of my old favorites. No fancy Greek/Asian/Inuit fusion here, thank Zeus! I was getting ready to order the gyro platter when the owner casually mentioned that lamb shanks with roasted potatoes were the night's special. Score! My food was delivered very, very quickly, and it exceeded my expectations. Lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender, well seasoned, and covered with a simple Greek tomato sauce. Potatoes were well cooked (but not as crispy as I usually like), but their feta and olive oil sauce was superb. Beautiful fluffy rice and a simple salad of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, feta and a light vinaigrette were also included. Everything was delicious! Overall, servings were generous and prices were reasonable. And yes, they still offer carry out, something to keep in mind the next time I drive through Middletown on my way anywhere. And even if I'm not driving through, Aleko's is worth the trip all by itself.
