Located diagonally across the street from Phonoluxe, Panaderia Latina has delicious, ridiculously cheap Latin American baked goods. I bought a concha (a giant traditional pastry frosted with brightly colored sugar) and a triangle of buttery sweet bread with sesame seeds on top, which the owner recommended, for just $1.37. All of their pastries, cheese rolls, and loaves of bread are made right there at the bakery, and if the back door to the kitchen is open you can even see the baker in action.
At Panaderia Latina, there are dozens of different baked goods to choose from, alont with a fridge of drinks to wash it all down with. The owner is really friendly and speaks English, so don't be afraid to go in even if you don't speak Spanish. It's self-serve, so you just walk right in, grab a tray, select whatever you want, and then bring it up to the register. This definitely fees like a family-run establishment - the man who rang me up was holding a sleeping toddler in his arms, and it all seemed very casual. read more
