Pampered Pup is an Alameda classic. If you're looking for a casual and nostalgic meal, Pampered Pup is the place to go. This place is by no means fancy. They focus on the basics and they get it right. You can build your own hot dog or order one of the combos off the menu. Drinks and chips also available. Ingredients you can put on your hot dog include jalapeños, relish, pickles, tomatoes, cheese, chili, onions, etc. I know there are a lot of east bay folks that like Casper's. I personally like Pampered Pup way more.

The "Pampered Pup" is a classic hotdog restaurant that has been serving Alameda since 1967. Located on the corner of Park St & Central Ave, this small hotdog joint serves up tasty dogs with speedy friendly service. I was there on a very warm Sunday afternoon around 3pm. I went in and looked over the menu. I tend to order traditional classic dogs, but I like to try something new. So you order the type of hotdog you want, and then the kind of toppings. Or you ask for a Signature Pup, and just pick the type of hotdog. The choices are All Beef, Polish Sausage, Hot Link, Veggie, and Turkey. I got: - Kraut Dog, Polish Sausage (My favorite) - Chicago Dog, All Beef - PupZilla, All Beef All the hotdogs were juicy and delicious. I was told the PupZilla is a unique recipe of this location. It's a different taste for a hotdog. It has a deep flavor, not spicy, with a sweet finish. Also available are chips, sodas, and lemonade. Limited indoor seating, and some outdoor tables on the sidewalk. This small hotdog place is ideal for a quick meal. If you want coffee, there's Starbucks and a Peet's Coffee right across the street. The Pampered Pup is near the Alameda Theatre, and public parking. It's also near the Kaiser Medical Offices. Located in Alameda's Park Street Business District. Support Local Business!

Showed up a little too early for my screening of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare at the Alameda Theater, so walked over for a dog and a coke here. There were a couple of seats at a table and at a side counter, along with seats outside which would have been just fine since it was a sunny day. Got the coney dog even though I'm not the biggest fan of chili, but it was really good, and a cheap meal compared to what we would end up paying at the theater. This is not a gourmet dog and it doesn't have to be. It's a cheap, delicious meal for when you're on the run or when you need somewhere to hang out whilst waiting for your movie. Right on, Pampered Pup!

Awesome little place! Came here on a. Friday evening about 45 min prior to closing up and the guy was still happy to make my friend and I a hotdog. My hotdog came with coleslaw and another sauce that was really good - just how I like it, messy and tasty. I would've gotten the nacho cheese dog but they were all out of nacho cheese but what I got was a great mix between sweet and saucy. Loved it.

This has delicious hot dogs. The inside is small but the service is quick and is cheap to get a hog dog here. I recommend this place.

Now, I read that this iconic Oakland Top Dog location is closing soon, due to a dispute with the new landlord. I figured I better get over her quick before it closes for good. https://www.sfgate.com/food/article/berkeley-top-dog-closing-oakland-location-21102867.php My Oakland guide, who grew up as a child in this Lakeshore Area, tells me of the old days here right at this location where the Top Dog is. It used to be a restaurant called Edy's and they had the best lime freezes. His mother used to take him here in the 1960's! I can't believe that was over 60 years ago! This Top Dog has been here for a long time, around 21 years. The little alley way that has an entrance to the Top Dog, now goes to Trader Joes, but he tells me that used to be a Lucky grocery store before. The parking structure wasn't there either. My guide is a long time Top Dog fan, from the original Berkeley locations. He even made friends with the girl cook at the north Berkeley location and ended up getting free hot dogs! He says the prices sure have gone up since the 70's ... a Kielbasa was just 70 cents! That's $4.50 now! This location runs like most locations, you just tell the cook what you want and the sausages are already cooked or cooking on the flat top grill. The buns get heated there too and then you have condiments to add. I've been a fan of Top Dog, more the Berkeley location, but it's sad to see this location close. Soon, it will just be the original Berkeley location open at the south campus.

I wasn't looking for a Coney dog when I decided to stop by at Kasper's with a 'K'. I'm surprised I had never been here because it's in Oakland's familiar Dimond district. Kasper's is housed in a cool, mid-century vintage standalone building and has a parking lot like most fast food eateries back sometime in the last century. There were two people behind the counter, both obvious veterans who split responsibilities between dressing the dogs and handling the register. The menu was pretty straightforward: nine different dogs and a chili bowl plus soft drinks and fizzes. I was hoping they might have a Chicago dog but no such luck. Instead I went for the $7.39 Quarter Pound Dog with Chili ($1.29), Cheese ($0.99), and Diced Onion (free). So kinda like a Coney but not quite. Still quite tasty and filling as it was an all-beef dog with a massive amount of chili (photo: https://yelp.to/nG4KKo0L6Y). I dared to get a $1.69 bag of chips and a $3.05 Diet Coke, but in hindsight, I should've gone for an Orange Fizz to evoke my Orange Julius-filled childhood. I used to love those. So of course, I had to go get one. Ended up getting a pork tamale with all the toppings (tomato, cheese, onion, jalapeno, sour cream, green sauce). The tamale is already made and kept warm before being served. I don't eat tamales that often but this hit the spot for me and was exactly what I remembered. There was a good amount of shredded pork filling as well, and made for a good bite mixed with all the toppings. The price was definitely raised since I last bought it, but it's a quick and easy meal to get. There was one other person in line ahead of me but I was able to order and get my tamale quickly. I like that he sanitized his hands in between orders as well. I was super happy with the tamale and will be back.
