Lovely winery on Vashon Island! This winery is on the north part of town as you go to the ferry that goes to West Seattle. I went here with family as they like to frequent wineries more than Steve and I do who likes breweries more. Most of our traveling companions got red wine but I got white here. It was simply lovely! Sampled a few other whites that I enjoyed as well. I don't think go wrong with any selection you make. Great tasting room and a very fine patio to enjoy your wine. Very pleasant in the warmer months. Not too sure how the set up is when it's cold. Parking is a little tedious as you have to park on the side of the highway since they don't have their own parking lot but traffic isn't too terrible to make it a big hassle.

One star because the wine was good. The two women were not rude however they defiantly were not hospitable. The greeting was blah, no smiles , no "How are you today?" ect. Most of, if not all, wineries will provide a flight of wine with 4-6 small glasses for a tasting at one time , you take it to your table and discuss with your friends/family the different flavors and then decide to either buy a bottle of your favorite or a few glasses. Not at Palouse Winery! There was a total of 3 people in our party. They gave us ONE glass and we stood at counter and passed around the wine glass. Handed back to woman , she rinsed out and poured next taste, once again we passed the same glass between the 3 of us. By this time a long line was forming behind us of customers. The attendant asked if we can move to the side so she can help customers. So we took our one wine glass with our ounce in half wine and sit at table. Go back up and have to stand in line to try our 4th 'tasting ' selection. Other wineries will come to your table and pour your next taste but at this winery you had to go back and forth and stand in line for the next selection. It was so awkward. The system to taste wines and or purchase is cumbersome as noted above. They did not explain how their tasting system worked. I had to ask, if we get a flight is the fee waived if we purchase a bottle? She said "you have to purchase two bottles". One of our guest inquired about purchasing glasses as she collects wine glasses, the woman helping us said, $12.00 per glass and the manger said $16.00. Found out later that another set of non member guests bought a bottle and were given two free wine glasses. This was not even an option to us even after showing interest in buying wine glasses. Decided we wanted to stay more than our 5 minute tasting experience and purchase a glass of wine ( yes , our very own wine glass ) We asked if there was additional seating other than next to the main highway in gravel parking lot. The lady at the front said yes, in the back but for members only. Well, we weren't members and opted to stay in front since we do not live nearby and would not see much benefit of signing up. I understand why they reserve that for members, it is quite beautiful ( yes, we took a peak , wanted to see if we should become members and enjoy the scenery) At this point other than lack of customer service and having to share one glass between 3 people , I would say the winery was ok BUT this is what turned their potential 5 star to a 1. We left winery to head back to ferry. While waiting for ferry we ran in to a couple that was at the winery at the same time. They proceed to tell us how great the back yard ( members only) was. They said they bought a bottle of wine and the woman said they can sit in the back since they bought a bottle of wine, they WERE NOT members.....WAIT.... WHAT?!?! That was NEVER even mentioned to us as an option. Palouse Wines, please be consistent in your 'RULES' and treat all guests the same. We definitely did not feel welcome.

This was the back area that had plenty of nice chairs and tables to enjoy your wine and relax.

Jessica H.

I was driving by and saw this place so just popped in for a visit. They were very welcoming and helped me pick out a great wine. I enjoyed a glass of a very nice White wine. The scenery was relaxing and made me want to stay longer. I will definitely be back and can't wait to bring my parents here.

So I really wanted to like this place. The ambiance is nice, the live-edge serving table is gorgeous, the owner is the wine maker, French oak barrels, owner just (spring 2018) spent a month in France... all signs pointed to a good tasting experience. Nope. The wine was fine - like a really young Boudreaux, more oak and less cherry though. The guy giving the tasting was a pretentious MF. We were not expecting the sort of snooty that you find in a Chateau-Neuf Village 200 year old wine cave. We have been to tastings in the Rhine, Mosel, Napa, Rhône, Limoux, Bordeaux, Fonton, the Loire, Tuscany, Sonoma, the Douro Valley, etc. and have only experienced this level of snooty once before (Sonoma). So this review is more about the experience than about the wine itself. The tasting was $15 each, which you are not told you can split, and then you are up sold for an advanced tasting. The Port was OK, but at $90 with a tasting and tax...? No way in blue-blazes!! I can buy THREE bottles of Ramos Pinto 12, two Vintage Taylor Floodgate for that and get delectable port not just ok port. It didn't stop after we left, we got double charged for the tasting and when my wife called, there was something odd with their accounting system that had to be verified and then we got a call back and refund two days after reporting the issue.

The wine was very good! Enjoyed Eclipse the most. They practiced safe COVID measures so we felt safe. We enjoyed the outdoor seating. Make sure to make reservations.

Sarah S.

Great winery, superb grounds and really epic wine. I really enjoyed the reisling and the eclipse. I also appreciated the live music and my kids really liked the toys in the garden. It was a live construction zone!! They ship wines and I am excited to enjoy these back home in California. Will be back in my next trip!

We were vising the island and stopped by "this place". Which may have been one of the best things to ever happen to us. Let me start by saying I'm a beer guy, I prefer beer to wine and I am ok with this. I do love wine tasting and occasionally enjoying a big bold cab with a medium-rare dead animal. You know the kind of red that has enough tannin to suck your entire face inside out. OR ANY wine made by George and Linda at Palouse. After the first visit we became members and about a year later cancelled our other wine memberships because ...well honestly why consume an inferior product? Palouse really made me rethink what I thought was "good wine". I would use this analogy: why would you want to ride some Harley that hasn't won a race or hasn't even been a relevant piece of engineering in the last 60 years if it weren't for some T-Shirt/attitude they sell, when you can ride a beautiful Ducati? The same company that currently has 4 out of the top 10 bikes in the World Cup? (Just kidding George). I hate to admit it but one of my favorites here is the Golden pearl Viognier. I know!!! A white!!! Is it even legal to like one? I say it's one of my favorites here because I can't really find a white anywhere worth speaking about and this one is definitely worth Yelping about. This is the only white I drink. George described it to me as a "red drinker's white" I couldn't agree more. I can sit here and talk all day about how good the Eclipse blend is or how amazing the 08 Cab Franc is. As we know, taste is subjective and THIS is the real reason why I love this winery, it's the people behind the wine that make this wine great! George makes wine that he and his wife Linda enjoy. They just happen to share it with others. It also just so happens that most of their wines are rated in the high 90s and it also just so happens a few of them are Double Gold winners. Wait! There's a Double Gold? If you're on Vashon on a weekend don't pass this up and do try their wines. You don't have to like them but I'm sure you'll love them.

Tasting Room is out in front of their house!

We never miss an opportunity to visit Palouse Winery while on Vashon Island. The wine is excellent, but what separates Palouse is the attention given to every person who walks in. We have literally brought dozens of friends to Palouse over the last few years. George and Linda make everyone feel like they have known them forever! This is truly an island gem, not to be missed. In my opinion, 100 points! read more

i would have given palouse 2 stars if it wasn't for their cabernet franc, and because one of the wine stewards was friendly. we really like cabernet franc and have a really hard time finding local, 100% wines at a reasonable cost--and palouse had a decent one at a decent price. otherwise, the wines were ok. because of their location near the ferry terminal, they charge $5 for a tasting and do not waive the fee with a bottle purchase. read more

By far the worst customer service and wine tasting I have ever experienced. My girlfriend and I walked in, dressed casually. We weren't dressed for the black tie event, but we weren't dressed for yard work on a Saturday afternoon, either. There were two groups, 1 group was older, party of 4-5. Very well dressed and discussed trips all over the world during their tastings. The staff member never left them. (large group, this is expected) I could barely overhear her explaining each wine, the grapes, techniques, history, etc. Their pours were generous. The second group was a mother, her very young daughter and I imagine the daughters boyfriend. The second staff member took the time to explain the wine much like the other staff member, offered generous pours even though the boyfriend(?) continued to swirl his wine right out of his glass.... During the tasting, our pours were meager at best. Hardly enough to get a full taste. The only interaction with the staff during our tasting was when she poured the next ounce of wine. She told us the name of wine, then left and returned to the mother/daughter. We studied the club brochure. The staff member saw us reading over it and never offered any information. The only information I gained from this visit is what was on the menu. The whites were overly sweet, the reds were on par with the staff... they left much more to be desired. $10.00, 6 - 1/2 oz pours and a dozen words spoken. read more

Not the best experience. Good selection of wines but not much on the way of hospitality. Our server acted like we were bothering her. She asked if we were there for a tasting, quickly poured the first wine and walked away. Said nothing about the wines through the entire 5 very small sips she poured. I didn't expect nor want a lot of small talk but some background on what we're trying would be nice. The wines are good but the portions were very small. Barely a taste which made it a bit hard to really experience the wine. Didn't buy anything for that reason and the poor service. We won't be back. read more

Made an impromptu trip to Vashone Island, and we are so glad that we did! This winery is perfectly secluded in a little section of the highway with beautiful trees surrounding it. The ambiance is amazing. We all got a tasting which included a great variety of white and red wines. We ended up sitting in the patio area, which overlooks the mountains and a sliver of the water. History

Established in 2003.

George & Linda Kirkish are the heart of Palouse Winery. After running an airline, a contracting business, raising four children, and living life to the fullest on Vashon Island, George & Linda took their drive for excellence and art in a new direction. In the fall of 2003, they set off into the wilds of the wine industry by buying half a ton of Cabernet Franc grapes from Portteus Vineyard, located high on the hillside above Yakima Valley in Rattlesnake Hills. That first barrel ignited a drive and passion that has never faded. With expert guidance & regular classes at UC Davis’s oenology program, Palouse evolved further in its philosophy, along with its grape purchases. In early 2005 the winery expanded into the present day location on Vashon Island’s north end. Palouse produces 1,400 cases of hand crafted wine a year, each vintage more stunning than the last.

As we move through the vineyard, we heard from our chef and where all our food was sourced, and how it was prepared. We are then guided to a large table with fresh bread and butter as the next several courses are served. The cedar planked salmon with strawberry balsamic chutney was the highlight of the meal. The salmon was tender and moist, and strawberry atop was the best flavor combination. Each pairing of wine throughout the evening was perfect, everything went well with each dish. The best was the specially served 2016 Semillon Ice Wine Wahluke Slope! Literally the best tasting wine I've ever had, light but packed with flavor. To wrap up our dinner experience we were served a rhubarb crisp and could purchase wine to take home. My husband and I took home two bottles: 2024 Pinot Gris from Yakima Valley which we were served. It was about a three hour dinner experience - worth it for a special occasion!

We actually discovered Palouse when we were on Vashon for an event at a different winery, but they've become the flagship of our Vashon experiences (we don't even go to the other winery any more). Once inside the door - or on the patio in sunny weather - we've come to expect a warm welcome and individual attention. They've been doing single bottle varietals since before single bottles varietals were cool (2003). Wanna take home a bottle of 100% Petit Verdot to serve with some marinara? Care to match those lamb chops with a bottle of 100% Malbec? Need something to pair with that chocolate lava cake that won't be cloyingly oversweet - Petite Sirah Port, if they still have it. Don't like the sample that they poured for you? You'll get at least four more pours, you'll find something. Their product list is pretty extensive (17 wines and evolving yet), and very reasonably priced. Furthermore, last year I was also lucky enough to encounter a 2009 Palouse Zinfandel and it was one of my best tastes of 2015 - clearly the product ages very well. This is as close to a 'can't miss' experience as you'll find anywhere on Vashon Island and among any of the wineries that I've experienced anywhere (and I drink a LOT of wine....). I suppose the ultimate statement for this review is that I'll continue to spend my money, and time, at Palouse Winery. read more

My husband & I found this winery after biking up the hill from the ferry on our tandem; it was our first visit to Vashon Island. When we saw the little sign board for "Wine Tasting", we thought, "Why not?" We love wines, but were skeptical of a boutique winery on a small island far away from any grapes! But, this may replenish our energy after that hill for the rest of the ride. A small, friendly crowd was enjoying live music on the patio. We were welcomed by George & Linda, proprietors, and their staff who are all very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. From whites to reds, we found full flavor, sophistication and a long finish. The backyard is a great place to relax while sipping Palouse's wonderful wines with patio tables & chairs overlooking Colvos Passage and the Kitsap Peninsula. We liked the wines so much we joined the Palate Club and look forward to their Pick-Up Party every quarter. And, besides the pick-up parties, several times a year George & Linda offer chef-prepared fabulous, multi-course dinners paired with their wines and fun, interesting guests. We love George & Linda and love their wines! read more

I have been enjoying Palouse Winery's delicious wines for almost 10 years now, and they just keep getting better! George and Linda Kirkish (the owners/wine-makers) are two of the most fun, big-hearted, and down-to-earth people you'll ever meet, and their passion for wine is contagious. A visit to their tasting room is guaranteed to be a great experience (I joined their wine club on my first visit!) and they also hold a number of wine dinners each year, which are FANTASTIC. In the warmer months, the dinners are held in their garden, where one can enjoy amazing 5-course meals, converse with interesting people, and enjoy beautiful sunsets over the Olympics - it is a great way to celebrate a special occasion (or just to celebrate life in general)! Vashon Island is a lovely place to visit, and Palouse Winery is the absolute highlight if you are a wine lover. read more

I've done wine tasting in Napa, in Paso Robles, Los Olvidos, Yakima, Walla Walla & Chelan. I would say that it's pretty normal to like 1 or 2 of the wines I taste at any given winery, and if there are 2 I would take home, that's a winning recommendation. So imagine my surprise when I liked EVERY SINGLE wine I was poured in this handsome and unassuming boutique winery. I can honestly say this has never happened before! And from the talk of the folks around me that day, I could tell I was not the only one. No wonder Palouse has received so many medals from Seattle Wine Awards - 10 just for this vintage! The low key and unpretentious nature of the tasting room, the charm and knowledge of the staff, and the chance to see a real working winery made my stop at Palouse one I will always remember. A true gem! read more

Palouse Winery is a hidden gem and absolutely worth the trip! The wine here is fantastic--bold, well-crafted, and full of character. Each glass was a delight, with flavors that clearly reflect the care and passion behind every bottle. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, perfect for a relaxing tasting experience. While the space is on the smaller side, it only adds to the charm, creating a warm and welcoming vibe. The service was top-notch--friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. The staff made sure we felt right at home and gave great recommendations. If you're debating whether it's worth the ferry ride, trust me--it is! This is a must-visit spot for wine lovers. I'm already looking forward to coming back! read more

I think that Palouse Winery is one of the finest small wineries I have visited. It is a great family owned business that has some of the best wines in the Northwest. Their attention to detail in the production of their wines are second to none. I have been a member of their wine club for years and can honestly say I have never received a bottle of wine that I didn't love. Drop by and visit George, Linda and their son Caleb. They are salt of the earth people and when you taste their wines you will definitely want to join the club. read more

Wine and an experience made from the heart, as it should be. The owners and wine makers of Palouse Winery, George and Linda, put their love and passion for quality, one-of-a-kind wine into every barrel they produce. And their fun, welcoming demeanor and tasting room will leave you wanting to come back to the island just for them all the time! But luckily they have a wine club so you can get your Palouse Winery enjoyment from the comfort of your home on a regular basis. Great people, great wine, great experience - enough said :) read more

Tasted through an amazing line up of wines and loved every one of them. Generally when I wine taste I like some, some are ok and others I don't care for, but at Palouse every wine they make is amazing. They make 15 different varietals from a perfect Riesling to a big dark Syrah as well as the usual suspects of Cab, Cab Franc, and Merlot. They also offer some unusual varietals - Tempranillo, Grenache, Petit Verdot, and Petite Sirah. If you like good wine at a reasonable price stop in. Definitely worth the ferry ride. read more
