First time at this winery but not my first time at wineries. This location has a private parking lot, and indoor/ outdoor seating. The wine maker Paul was there, Peter was a great host, and Danna the wife was great at check in and out. It was a quiet location and we loved the selection of wine options. We did the tasting and it involved 6 wines plus an extra. Very great tasting wines but I wasn't a fan of the non waived tasting fee for a purchase of wine. read more

If you are looking for a down-to-earth, quaint local winery to support, rolling bay is it! The staff were so personable and genuinely interested in answering all your questions, and also took time to really get to know us. They had some really interesting wines, including a white blend that I've never even heard of before. Thought from a pure taste POV this place was 5/5! The wine maker, Alfons (spelling?) also heard we loved cab sav and offered to give us a taste directly out of the barrel of his 2019 cab sav / syrah mix in addition to the 7 wines in the tasting! Super nice. My only issue is that I made a reservation ahead of time and requested to be put inside. We were inside a covered "barn" like area, but there was no heat which made the conditions a bit uncomfortable. Would suggest that the business lets the customer know ahead of time that it is covered but unheated! We brought a dog (ESA) and they were super kind about that. read more

This is Yelp post was for a visit on 6/9/18 to Rolling Bay Winery. I am enchanted by Bainbridge Island. Usually I stick to the main drag in Winslow with its cool shops, restaurants, and art museum or blaze through on 305 heading towards Poulsbo, Silverdale and Bremerton. The day before I was on the island, it was that compelling. I spontaneously jumped another ferry the next morning to focus on the Rolling Bay area for my birthday. Something different and definitely memorable. I was on the early side of the wine tasting hours (that Saturday it was 1200-1700), I was in their parking lot at 1205 after visiting another business around the intersection. I was greeted by Peter, who was overseeing the tasting counter ($10 fee, free for wine club members). I received brief overviews of each wine, batched by white and red, profiled by other aspects...which I wished I had jotted notes while there. I even got an introductory instruction on swish and spit, definitely Peter was there to have you be in the moment and provide guidance. This was my first wine tasting in over 15 years! The different nuances and notes steered me in the direction of buying four bottles afterwards from Tim, who oversaw the retail / finance part that day. I bought a Pinot Gris, Cab Franc Rose, Malbec, and a Cuvee Aldaro (cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and merlot). The latter was a smooth standout, as I have leanings toward merlots. I also had a pleasant conversation with Alphonse, owner / winemaker of Rolling Bay Winery. Too early to not be able to partake in the later festivities with other visitors and members, but nevertheless, everyone made me feel truly welcomed despite showing up solo. I ended up signing up to be on their mailing list and joined their wine club. I'm sure as a near two decade McCarthy and Schiering member, will be beneficial. Again, credit goes to local resident and avid Yelper, George S for writing compelling posts. I usually don't catch back to back ferries from Seattle/Bainbridge Island and then the next morning from Lake Forest Park to Edmonds/Kingston. Glad I did - great way to celebrate my birthday as a two time cancer warrior and to honor the memory of Anthony Bourdain. **From Edmonds/Kingston ferry, follow signage and head towards Bainbridge Island once at major intersection in Poulsbo past Valley Nursery by turning left. Once on Bainbridge Island, turn left on NE Lovgreen Rd, a right on N Madison Ave NE, turn left on NE Valley and you will find yourself in Rolling Bay. After pouring our first tasting for 4 people, we sat down, and then an older man from the office came and told us that our tasting fee was $15 each and he could collect it now. making us feel like he thought we were going to drink and dash! Kind of rude. We stated we were only on our first taste(there were5), and that we might be buying some bottles at the end of the tasting. After we were done tasting, we did buy a bottle of wine and sat outside to share. No credit for $15 tasting fee if you bought a bottle, so $60 for 4 tastings. Never ran across that before. You normally get your tasting fee back if you buy a bottle, but whatever. Not all that friendly, these older gentlemen. Then you had to go from tasting table to the office to pay. Then he grumbled about taking cash. Sort of underwhelming. Probably won't go back. read more

First visit to this winery yesterday when wifey and I did the wine on the rock event. I wasn't expecting much but the owner and winemaker (I forget his name) was super nice and awesome. Loved how inviting he was and his staff. My wife and I even got a private tour of the winemaking process. Such an awesome experience. The wines were very good too. This was our second stop on my wine tasting tour of Bainbridge Island and was one of our favorites of the trip! The winery mostly served dry wines, which is normally not my preferred​ wine of choice, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed all the wines I tasted. My top pick from their wine tasting selection was their 2017 Fusion white wine. Additionally​, the staff was so friendly and took the time to discuss each of the wines with us. I definitely plan on stopping by to pick up some more wine next time I am on the island! read more

Rolling Bay Winery is one of the very few wineries I've found where I like their whites and their reds. I am especially fond of reds and theirs are consistent medal winners in the San Francisco Chronicle's annual tasting. This past couple of years Alphonse has added additional production capacity and a second tasting room in the Rolling Bay neighborhood of Bainbridge Island. He has a loyal cohort of volunteers that are well travelled and insure a warm welcome. You'll never have to ask twice to share tasting notes and pairing suggestions. Both facilities are a short bicycle ride from the Seattle ferry and great places to picnic. This is a wonderful destination for a first date or a romantic day trip. read more

We really wanted to try a new winery but this one was bad. The wine was just undrinkable. We poured everything out. I can't image who might like this wine. Also, although they asked patrons to wear masks, they didn't enforce it. So that was uncomfortable. They also allowed the entire outdoor area to become overrun by a single family with 3 young children....at a winery. It's no fun to taste wine while trying not to trip over other peoples toddlers. Disappointing experience and next time we will stick with our usual spots. read more

Oh what a fun day tasting here. They located to another venue which is not updated. We drove to their old address and saw the sign they moved. The new place is a great location. Their outside seating is spacious and they had a live band playing. You can taste wine out of the barrel which was new to me. Wine selection is great, you get 7 tasting for $10 and their pours are generous. Goose is awesome ! Funny and personable. He has a good knowledge of what he is pouring and takes time to know his guest. Highly recommend this place. read more

This is a hidden gem with a quaint setting and memorable wine. We were on the island for just 24 hours and this was such a treat for us ladies while our kids and husbands kayaked. Alfonse, the winery host, was gracious with his time and was very attentive. We were fortunate to be there on a Sunday with a jazz duo which just added to the experience. We also met a couple who just moved from our area and now live on the island so conversation flowed nicely with the wine tasting. The tasting was very reasonable and we ended up having one of us join the wine club so we will be drinking Rolling Bay wine once we get home. Be sure to get there early around 12 p.m. or so you have some time to talk with Alfonse before it gets busy. We cannot wait to visit again when we are back in Seattle and we are looking forward to drinking the Fusion and Malbec at home... read more

We stopped in on a whim while passing through Bainbridge Island. It was a beautiful day, we like wine and we thought it would a great yuppie thing to do. We were somewhat skeptical given the winery looks like it's in someone's backyard, but we pressed on. What we found was one of the coziest, charming wineries we've seen in a long time. We were excited at the prospect of tasting some wine, perhaps buying a bottle to enjoy in the garden and probably taking several bottle home with us. Sadly, the service was more of the "backyard winery" variety than what we were hoping for. There were about six people in the tasting room when we walked in, not including staff. It seemed a bit crowded and it wasn't obvious who we were supposed to talk to, so we just kinda looked around (probably appearing lost). We were never greeted and I was actually pushed out of the way as one of the employees tried to shew a bird out of the room. It was an accident, so it wasn't terribly upsetting, but I was hoping for some sort of recognition of it happening. There was nothing of the sort. It was clear everyone was distracted, so we stepped out the door for a few minutes while a group finished their tasting. Once the room cleared, we stepped up to the tasting table while another couple was just beginning their tasting. We stood there, for several minutes, while the couple had one or two tastings. We were no more than two feet from the gentlemen doing the pouring and he never once acknowledged us. We stood there, watching him pour, eying the used toothpicks and half eaten bread on the table in front of us. At some point, my wife and I looked at each other and we both kinda knew it was time to leave. With that, we walked out. We were there for probably 15 minutes, close enough to touch the staff for pretty much our entire time, and we were ignored every step of the way. Could we have made our presence known? Absolutely. Could we have interjected ourselves? Of course. The thing is, where I come from you greet your patrons and make them feel welcome... not make them ask for your attention. It was an extremely off-putting experience and one that leaves us with no desire to return. read more

Based on the reviews, my husband and I stopped by this weekend. Wow, what a treat! For a $5 tasting, I think we tried about 10 wines (2 white and the rest red). For several of the wines, we were able to test the wines vertically...2013, 2014 (right from the barrel), and 2015 (not yet released and still aging in barrels). The owner and staff were super friendly. We liked the wines...we are fans of red wines. They have a nice outside area. Parking is a little cramped. We are new to the Washington area, coming from the East Coast. We decided to use on of our wedding presents which was a gift certificate to Rolling Bay winery one Saturday afternoon. The gift included a tasting for two and also a private tour and tasting of about five wines still in barrel with the winemaker. The tasting room was manned by a lovely woman who greeted us with a warm smile and an enthusiastic spirit which made us feel immediately welcomed. The tasting room had one of the nicest free charcuterie offerings we've ever seen at a winery including asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, at least five different meats and an array of cheeses and breads. The vintner is an amazing man originally from the Netherlands, who took his time giving us a personalized tour even on a busy Saturday and was sweet enough to take our pictures in the barrel room. Overall what a great experience! We fell in love with the Tempranillo and the Malbec although there were many others we want and will probably become a member in short time. Highly recommend this winery and this experience! read more

This winery was a nice treat for wine tasting both because of the wonderful wines (especially Manitou red) and a relaxing setting with outside picnic tables available. The tasting room is very small but worth the wait. Tasting was $5.00 and there were cheese and crackers to accompany the wine. The wine maker was a great host and everyone that worked there was knowledgable and helpful. The wines have won awards and they are well-deserved. Fabulous "mom and pop" winery right off their home! Like the other reviewer stated, the owners are super nice and try to take a moment to greet every visitor no matter how busy they are. I really enjoyed the wine tasting experience here at this small, local winery. Adorable setting, with places to "park" your bike. Excellent view of the Seattle skyline as you turn onto the main road to the winery. The owner let us taste the Malbec straight from the barrel. It was very fun. We were a bit afraid of coming inside due to it being in someone's backyard. But as we came down the hill, Peter greeted us inside their warm taste room. We were surprised at how warms and cozy it was, sitting in front of a large wood table that was standing on top of 2 wine barrels. It was definitely unique than what we've had before. Both Peter and Alphonse were amazing and treated us like kings. We were the only ones there so we had the entire room to ourselves, having a taste of wine sitting in the barrels. Overall, it was an amazing experience and can't wait to go back in the summer! read more

Great way to wrap up a day trip to Bainbridge Island. Super cozy and warm local winery run by a gent named Alfonso. It was crazy packed the day we went (that's what happens when you go on the Saturday before Valentine's Day and it's chocolate and wine pairing day), though by the sound of it, this was a normal sized crowd. $5 for six generous pours. All the wines were good. Safe and mild, nothing too notable or unique about any of them. A good safe bet. read more

On a winery tour of Bainbridge Island arranged through Bon Vivant with my hubby and my in-laws, this was by far the best and most memorable winery visit of our day. Upon arrival you are greeted like an old friend and ushered into the winery shed. That sounds awful, but it is actually adorably quaint, and though small I didn't feel cramped. It felt cozy and familiar, like you were just having drinks with your good pals at their home. For a nominal $5 fee we got to taste at least six wines, some even directly from one of their barrels. They also put out delicious cheeses and bread for us. One of them was Beecher's Flagship, and it paired deliciously with their wines. The tasting itself was a little bit unorganized. They have so many groups floating in and out at different times, you just need to help them keep track of what you are being served. For example, whenever I was ready I would go up to the bar and request the next wine by number, like #3 white, or #1 red. They pour three whites first followed by the reds. And boy were their white wines delicious! And I don't normally even like white wine. My mother-in-law is all about the Pinot Grigio and the Rolling Bay Pinot Grigio was her favorite of the day. This is the only winery on our tour where we actually bought wine to bring home with us. You can take the tasting at your own pace. Stay in the shed and chat up the winemaker and bartender, wander the backyard, or have a seat out front under the canopy and enjoy the lovely music they play. Maybe it was the sun that decided to shine during our visit on an otherwise gray day, or maybe I had on rose colored glasses after all of the generous pours from the bartender, but this place has definitely made it's mark in my memory as a happy place that I will be delighted to visit again and again! read more

This winery is AWESOME! I came here with a group of friends for a wine tasting and could have stayed for hours (which we basically did). The setting is beautiful and the wine is amazing, I think every person in our group bought at least one bottle.
