A day pass is $8.00 and is good till 10:00PM (you can leave and come back). They give you a map as well. You can drive the whole thing and see a lot from your car. There's also plenty of pull-offs for picture opportunities. For ones that like hiking, there's plenty of that there. I'm not big into hiking, and I also didn't pack to do so. Lol. There is cave you see from the road, and if you want you can do a short hike to it. I wasn't on planning really hiking anywhere but this was short enough. Easy to get up, going down you have to be a lil careful. Good place for pictures too. Camping ground are available too. Anyways, if you're in town visiting or never have been there, I definitely recommend it!

But you can only drive 16 miles on a paved road. Then you turn around and drive back. Palo Duro Canyon State Park officially opened on July 4,1934 and it cost $8.00 a person to enter. You can camp in tents-RVs with electricity and water. Also rental cabins that look pretty cool overlooking the canyon. Picnic tables and various locations over 40 miles of hiking and biking trails. They have stables with guided horseback rides. Parks Museum store has exhibits about history, geology, and wildlife. They have a natural observatory for birdwatching. And a trading post with restaurant and a park store. During the summer hours an open air outdoor drama theater nestled at the foothills of the cliff. This is a beautiful state park and we're glad we seen it.

The nice folks who checked us in and the spectacular location are worth much more than three stars. Additional pluses: the sites are mostly level and the grade is flatter than the state park. Negatives: we had to change sites to find working electricity and available water. Biggest issue: THERE CURRENTLY ARE NO BATHROOMS OR SHOWERS. The bathroom facility has burned to the ground, which I imagine has been awful for the owners. However, I wish this had been on their website and in the reservation confirmation when we booked our site a week ago. Our trailer does not have a bathroom or shower, so we likely would've changed travel plans if we had known. Overall, it's a fine campground (tents are here, too), feels remote but is near restaurants, and it's nice to be able to book online. I advise asking about facilities before booking, though.

You may need extensions for your sewage and electrical. Stay away from site 25, the outlet had an open neutral as of 05/24/20, so be sure and ask before you book that site. Even with it being no frills, I really enjoyed this RV spot. It is right down the road from Palo Duro Entrance. Across the road is the Jeep Tours which was allowing hiking to get access to the canyon since the State Park was limiting visitors to Day passes due to COVID-19. In the evening at the RV park, we were able to walk down to the canyon area and had beautiful views. Absolutely gorgeous! All of the staff at the site was very nice. They kept the area clean and tidy and they are making many improvements to the site including mini-cabins which are really cute. I would stay again at this RV campsite.

Our Cabin had a great view of the Slug Bug Ranch right outside our rear windows which was an added bonus. The staff was quite friendly & the manager even gave us a tour of one of the Chuckwagons for rent for our next stay. All in all we couldn't have been happier with our 2 night stay & I guarantee next time we find ourselves in Amarillo we will gladly book the Chuckwagon or the Cabins again!

By far the worst RV park I have ever been to!…read more Our RV was overheating so we decided to park in the vacant lot across the street from the park to allow the engine/transmission to cool. (There was zero signage in the lot. Only exposed power wires). I was then subsequently illegally blocked into the parking lot by a gentleman who claimed to be the owner of "Big Texan RV Ranch" Andy. The individual refused to identify himself further and repeatedly demanded money from me in the form of cash. Andy then phoned for a worker from the park to block me into the spot. The worker from "Big Texan RV Ranch" then parked his truck on my front bumper damaging it. I had my wife and two kids in the RV at the time. The police were called and the individuals were told to leave by the police or face legal consequences. If I could give less than one star I would. Horrible place, nasty owner who likes to commit felonies. Stay far away from here! I am 100% DAV. It's not one of those keep the kids occupied places which is not a feature I need. It has trees and other greenery and receptionist very friendly and helpful. Office closes at 5 but she takes calls until 10. I called her at 9 pm with a WiFi issue and she promptly took care of it. There is a laundry and a shower which I did not use but count that among important for me features. Hookups were fine and more area between spaces than you get at a lot of places. I'd stay here aga

The site had dog feces in the area sectioned for a dog and the entire site itself. I noticed as I walked the property how much dog feces was in each lot in many different locations. They DO NOT clean up every night due to what I observed. The tables are very old and dirty with paint peeling. The fenced in dog area was not as I had imagined as it was not well kept and therefore I never used it. There are many tenants who live on site. This RV park is next to a truck stop so it is very noisy. If you stay here see if they are willing to put you further away from the truck stop especially because there is more lighting from that area and noise. Because I had been traveling and was tired I chose to write in my concern to them rather than call personnel after regular hours. I received a response back and they were pretty upset with me for telling them my what I had experienced. I travel often and feel I am being very fair with this review. I will say the bathrooms/showers are the nicest I have seen. If I was a solo traveler this would have been more tolerable. Perhaps see if Loves truck stop on the other side of town is best for you as the sites are very nice or stop in at an alternate RV park that is not next to to two major truck stops. This was my oversite for not realizing this.
